1501  Economy / Economics / Re: Hong Kong protestors call for sanctions against HSBC bank on: December 25, 2019, 11:50:04 PM
I mean from a business sense it makes sense that HSBC is closing accounts of people who are involved in the protests. There's no way for an international bank like HSBC to survive without the support of China and their allies in the region. They RELY on Chinese business and they know the only way to be allowed in that market is to appease the Chinese government.

But yes, from a practical point it sucks that banks are doing this. Only way around it is to unbank themselves. We do have to understand that Bitcoin isn't an end all be all -- as adoption isn't 'there yet' and there's too many fees as of right now.

1502  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Writes Pelosi An Open 6 Page Letter For Historical Purposes on: December 25, 2019, 11:42:37 PM
To anyone reading this now I'll stress the fact that Donald Trump is doing this to make his base happy -- and the base is happy -- 95 percent of the Republican base supports him. He knows that he'll be able to increase voter turnout by doing this among those that love him the most.

Pelosi invites Trump to the House to give state of the union address..

This letter is to be expected, Trump has accepted this invitation. This was an attack on Trump when she starts talking about the separation of powers and the checks and balances portion of things.
1503  Other / Politics & Society / Re: is demanding asylum the new indirect way to enslave a different society? on: December 25, 2019, 11:10:24 PM
I mean the problem in Germany was that they did kinda need new workers pumped into their workforce. They had an issue where their population was getting much older, and there was going to be a shortage of workers and tax revenues. I don't recall where I read this, but I do know that it is the case.

The issue was that in other countries they didn't need the workers, these people just flowed in (on the EU orders) and just flooded the nation with cheap labor that was not beneficial towards the nation.

There's the additional problem where the people who came in hadn't been vetted. That's an additional problem that people should've dealt with.
1504  Other / Politics & Society / Trump organization revenues remain steady, while hotel revenues decline on: December 25, 2019, 11:05:08 PM
Was just doing a tad bit of news reading for the day and found this NY Times article on the current conditions at the Trump organization - profit and revenue and all that info. See article - https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/25/us/politics/trump-businesses.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage

Pretty much just breaks down the fact that while a good deal of the hotels with Trumps name on it are falling in profit -- probably partially due to the protests that always occur outside of the buildings -- the office buildings that they own (without the Trump name) are doing AMAZING.

I know this is pretty much typical fluctuations in business. But front page of NY Times is the front page of NY times, so so be it.
1505  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Malaysian Prime Minister Dr M Welcomes Cryptocurrency on: December 25, 2019, 10:57:47 PM
He's welcomed the proposal of this idea. That doesn't really mean anything unless there are real plans towards implementation and we all see this being put into action. News stories don't mean anything. Real action does.

Plus -- it's not like he's doing this to be able to help his people into not being under the control of their government. He just wants to shift the control of his country (and the rest of the middle east) from being controlled by US sanctions from being controlled by the Islamic nations who'd be controlling this currency.

1506  Other / Politics & Society / Re: TRUMP IMPEACHED! on: December 25, 2019, 10:52:57 PM
This impeachment will prove counter-productive for the Democrats. The Senate will clear him anyway. What will happen is that Trump's existing supporters will support him even more as the valiant underdog fighting the establishment, and in all likelihood it will get him some new anti-establishment votes, too. I can't see how the Democrats gain from this at all; Trump will remain in power, and support for him will increase.

The Democrats tried to impeach every single Republican president ever.
It comes with no shock they're such bitter lowlifes to try to impeach this one as well.

This isn't true. Articles of impeachment have been introduced for a good deal of Republican Presidents for the past couple decades, but these haven't gone anywhere. I would assume that if we were to look we could find a Republican rep who introduced articles of impeachment against the past couple Dem presidents -- but them not going anywhere.

The only impeachment inquirys that have gone anywhere in the modernish era - Nixon (Not impeached, resigned before he could be impeached), Clinton (Impeached by the House, found not guility by the Senate) and Trump (Impeached by the House, most likely going to be found not guility by the Senate)
1507  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Belgian authorities are investigating the killing of two policewomen on: December 25, 2019, 10:48:03 PM
I mean, if what you're saying is right then this is a direct example of what happens if you accept mass amounts of people into your country without vetting them in the least. I never understood the opposition to people being looked at and screened, while there may not be a ton of information about them in their own country, I think it's worth to just sit down and chat with these people. That'd weed out some of the horrible.

....

I'll never understand why it's racist to want to vet people.
1508  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will Senate safe Donald Trump's impeachment? on: December 25, 2019, 10:42:51 PM
Well, folks, it didn't work the first time... so, let's do it again!

House Democrats Mull Second Impeachment

In a Monday court filing reported by Politico, House Counsel Douglas Letter argued that they still need testimony from former White House counsel Don McGahn, which may uncover new, impeachable evidence that Trump attempted to obstruct the Russiagate investigation (of a crime he didn't commit).

"If McGahn's testimony produces new evidence supporting the conclusion that President Trump committed impeachable offenses that are not covered by the Articles approved by the House, the Committee will proceed accordingly — including, if necessary, by considering whether to recommend new articles of impeachment," reads Letter's filing.

Cool

While this is from ZeroHedge, it makes sense on why the Dems are going to want to further go into impeachment stuff. They want to (and need to) convince more people to join their team. They thought with their public hearings that they'd be able to sway public opinion, but it really didn't do anything.

Current aggregate polls from 538 show that support behind impeaching and removing the president is 48-48 (pretty much a dead tie)

To go further with the support of the people, they need to flip this. And if they can't, they've failed and Trump will be able to use this as a victory of his own.
1509  Economy / Gambling / Re: SafeDICE.com ★ Bitcoin Dice ★ Monero ★ 0.5% Edge ★ Fast Cashout ★ Since 2014 on: December 25, 2019, 06:20:31 AM
Kinda gravedigging / bumping this thread here. Though I did want to say RIP to a great casino.

The .5 edge was home to a good deal of whales using different strategies. Had some good times on here, and it's sad to see the operators leave it without proper care. Hopefully they come at some point to help out those that lost due to the hot wallet not being full.

Rest easy.
1510  Other / Off-topic / Re: Flat Ass Society on: December 25, 2019, 03:48:46 AM
That is actually disgusting.
That must fuckin hurt to actually rotate your own ass-implant inside your body. I dont know how people willingly put huge pieces of silicon like that into their own body, the thought makes me sick to my stomach. Furthermore, I would much rather be with a woman with a flat ass than be with a woman who every other time I grabbed her but, a silicon semi-sphere starts rotating around like a spinning top... NO THANK U.

Oh my lord that's what it is. AN ASS IMPLANT. I just thought this was like a shot of someones ass being hit so that you're able to see the ass as flat.

But that makes a lot more sense then what I was thinking.

Would much rather be flat then have to go to the plastic surgeon every 10 years to get my flat tire -- I mean ass -- re blown up.
1511  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump is lying without giving a fuck, why? on: December 25, 2019, 03:40:32 AM
my opinion of Trump is sort of he's like a near-autistic high level genius. That would explain poor social skills and high achievement.

Where's the high achievement? Being born into wealth in a plutocratic society qualifies you to be president (or prime minister in the UK, hello Boris Johnson). It's not a meritocracy, you don't get to run the country by being the best person to run the country.

Trump is all bluster and front, with nothing behind it. There's barely even a guiding intelligence, he's just a petulant child consumed by avarice and a constant need for validation.

And as a businessman, his "defence" against the claim that he lost more money than any other US citizen in history is that it was just for tax purposes. Brilliant. So defrauding the country of $1b makes you the perfect person to run that country...

I read that article, and I'm seriously not impressed with it's arguments or logic. Here are a couple of examples.

Mr. Trump was able to lose all that money without facing the usual consequences — such as a steep drop in his standard of living — in part because most of it belonged to others, to the banks and bond investors who had supplied the cash to fuel his acquisitions. ...

Well Duh... Then it wasn't his losses! Those losses were passed through to the investors. An investor group shares in profits and in losses.

Some fraction of that ocean of red ink represented depreciation on Mr. Trump’s real estate. One of the most valuable special benefits in the tax code, depreciation lets owners of commercial real estate write down the cost of their buildings.

Depreciation is taken by everyone who has businesses. Today on commercial, it's the least lenient. Straight line for 37 years, less than 3% per year. Granted, this article goes way back and tax law may have been different.

Generally, speaking, though. This kind of a comment, "There's barely even a guiding intelligence, he's just a petulant child consumed by avarice and a constant need for validation."

Seriously? Go back and study his performance in the debates. Sounds like you just want to have an anti-Trump bitch and gripe thread, not one specifically about his purported lying?

Just asking...I'm not particularly interested in trump vs anti trump bitch and gripe.

Oh yeah, not saying the guy who wrote the article is smart in the least. Just kinda agreeing with the fact that Trump lies (and other politicians) that's just a fact.

But yeah, you're without a doubt right on the depreciation thing. All businesses take it, twas a bit different back then and I think they did change it in 2004 -- making what Trump and other business owners did at the time impossible. Though deprecation still happens.
1512  Other / Politics & Society / Re: lefties in the west have not much to do with the hardship that comes w communism on: December 25, 2019, 01:59:45 AM
Communism has never worked, there's no way around that one. Communism causes mass killings. If there's a wikipedia on your model of government, there's a problem with your model - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mass_killings_under_communist_regimes

Flying Hellfish and I have spoken about this on multiple occasions -- Capitalism, while it does have its flaws, has been the best way (to date) to bring people out of poverty and to increase their income. It's the best system we've seen ever. Yet again, no way around that.
1513  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will Senate safe Donald Trump's impeachment? on: December 25, 2019, 01:19:35 AM
Just to explain a few things about impeachment for a second. Donald Trump has already been impeached by the House, he has been impeached and he is the 3rd president to be impeached by the House of Representatives.

The Senate will be able to vote on the next portion of things in this process, which is if Donald Trump is guilty of what is he is alleged to be guilty of. Impeachment is pretty much being indicted - It doesn't mean any more then the Grand Jury thinking they have enough evidence to proceed (the grand jury in this case being the members of the House instead of the jury in a regular case)

So the Senate can't stop Trump from being impeached, but they can change the outcome of Donald Trump being found guilty.
1514  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Explosive Found in New York Blast Used for Target Shooting on: December 24, 2019, 10:31:46 PM
Isn't this typically something that happens? I know that a good deal of stores have combinations of checmicals that when seperated won't cause any damage, but when put together could cause a massive explosision. It's why in movies when people go into a Home Depot and order a good deal of items that could be used for explosives, posionious gases, etc -- home depot employees will alert the local police.

This is only an issue when people go ahead and mix things and abuse it, not without that.
1515  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Maybe Trump is telling the truth, and the media is lying. on: December 24, 2019, 09:07:31 PM
I mean while I'm a fan of Trump, I'm not someone who's going to close my eyes and put my fingers in my ears and say LALALALALALALLALALALALALAL. That's just not fair in the least. Trump lies, and so does the Media. But Trump isn't this Saint who is always truthful and nor is the media.

It's not fair to anyone, and yourself to try to beleive that the Conservative echo chamber (of the liberal echo chamber) is always right without fault.

Both sides are right are certain points, and we have to come to accept that.

1516  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How do you function in a dishonest Society? on: December 24, 2019, 08:52:35 PM
Dishonestly.

This is a pretty stupid topic just based on the fact that you're saying an entire society is dishonest. If an entire society is dishonest, it makes the most sense for no one to have an issue with being dishonest. It's accepted and it's the norm. Not surprising in the least.
1517  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The 50p Brexit coin has resurfaced. on: December 24, 2019, 08:49:26 PM
Well the issue about Brexit has presented itself yet again in this thread.

People think that Britian wants to restore their empire or that they want to do everything by themselves now -- with no international help in the least. That's just not true, and not going to happen. Britain/UK wants to be able to negotiate by themselves without the EU deciding everything about their country for them.

They don't want to have to take on tons and tons of migrants -- who they're unable to care for -- without their own government approving such action.

They're still going to strike up trade deals with other countries and use the WTO's guidelines for trade. This isn't like they're going to back to the times where they're just focused on mercantilism.

This is.... interesting to say the least.

1520  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump is lying without giving a fuck, why? on: December 19, 2019, 01:58:48 PM
I posted about this in another thread.

The continuous lying is intentional, and the crucial factor is the speed with which he can churn out new lies. With each new lie, the last one gets submerged before there is a chance for it to be investigated and debunked. Each outrageous headline gets replaced by a new one faster than you can say 'WTF?'. There is no time to prove it's a lie before the next one is upon us. This is how he stays ahead and on top.

Yep. This is the pretty big theory that people use, and at certain times I do actually believe it because it makes sense.

A lot of politicians try this though, it's the fact that it's hard to call them out when there's so much disinformation and lying to the point where it's just a waste of time calling them out. It usually works in the world of politics because people will typically now just accept the fact that most politicians lie -- all they have to do is to convince the voters that they lie less, or they're a bit better then their competitors.

Very very interesting strategy.
