1341  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Betting on Democratic Primaries on: February 06, 2020, 08:43:32 PM
You can bet on the nominee at nitrogensports.

It appears you can also bet at betonline, but I don't see any futures for individual primaries. Ditto with bovada

Hm, seems like Nitrogen doesn't have any individual primaries as well. I appreciate the help though, guess I'm not going to be betting on NH and Nevada.

Anyone know where I'd be able to bet on the upcoming Democratic primaries in crypto?

Not sure if any of you have any coins on the upcoming races, but I'd be happy to if I found a site. Much love folks.

@squatz1 you can wager at Freebitco I have left the link below for your reference, and they have more political events too so you can choose specifically which one’s you wish to target, or wager small bets across all the events relating to US politics. Further I haven’t checked which other site is allowing to wager in crypto for US political events, so you’ll have to compare the odds and then decide for yourself and good luck in advance for winning your bet.

Link:

https://freebitco.in (then click on betting - select category and lastly select politics)

Same situation as before, it allows betting on whos going to be the nominee, just not on whos going to win the individual primaries. Sad

I appreciate everyone trying to help though.

1344  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Politicians Want to Ban End-to-End Encryption [serious discussion] on: February 05, 2020, 10:35:17 PM
there's no evidence that this sort of mass surveilance of the American people (and foreign entities) even helps at all to stop terrorism or other sorts of crime.
You're right. 'Stopping terrorism' is just an excuse, as is this latest angle. Indeed, 'stopping terrorism' has been the excuse for the dramatic ramping up of surveillance activities since 9/11, starting in the immediate aftermath with the Patriot Act which basically destroyed privacy overnight. https://cyber.harvard.edu/privacy/Introduction%20to%20Module%20V.htm

We all have a right to privacy, and the government has a right to fuck off from trying to stop us from having that.
And yet we - or at least many of us - routinely sign it away by clicking our consent to website terms and conditions or else just by using tools such as Facebook and Google.

In the past, even the recent past, surveillance by the government was largely so that they could control us and see what we were doing. That's all changed now with the monetisation of surveillance - indeed surveillance capitalism is Facebook's entire business model. But they are all at it, Google, Amazon, and everyone else.

As crypto moves towards the mainstream, there will be increasing pressure to remove e2e encryption and to mould crypto into something that governments deem acceptable. So is the emasculation of crypto inevitable? I would say no. I think our best chance of avoiding this outcome is the sheer money involved, and the global nature of bitcoin and the huge commerical advantage that things like smart contracts such as Ethereum can provide. Whilst individual governments can 'ban' bitcoin and other cryptos, to do so would put them at a huge disadvantage against anyone who does adopt it. Basically the choice for governments and corporations is to adopt crypto or get left behind by your competitors. So for this simple reason I think that government attempts to wrest control of the direction of crypto will ultimately fail.

The sad thing about using this angle, is that it works. The American people (and most people in the world) are always worried about irrational things. The chance of a terrorist attack happening is slim to none, statistically, but that doesn't stop people from  spending billions of dollars a year in ensuring that every single safety feature is present. They way they present it to people who don't agree with them is -- if you don't support this, and a terrorist attack happens, the blood is on your hands. And that's a pretty simple way to make people follow your path, and to get voters to agree with you as well.

Crazy, eh?
1345  Other / Politics & Society / Re: First he Divides America, and now he divides the world (Middle East Peace Plan). on: February 05, 2020, 02:21:10 PM
This middle east plan is the way that Donald Trump is trying to convince a certain portion of his voters -- the evangelical ultra conservative ones that they should support him as he focuses on being a man of peace during a time of uncertainty (the impeachment process)

The Israel PM -- pardon me as I don't know how to spell his name and I'd rather not butcher it -- is going through a very similar process right now, as he needs the peoples support during a time where he's being indicted and it's unknown on if he'll be able to form a government.

I guess we'll see what the document looks like in the coming days.

I don't think he cares about the Jewish vote nearly as much as he does his relationship with Israel.  I think its pretty common for American Jews to consider themselves American, with little or no loyalty to Israel.  Also, there are only ~7 million Jews in America and half of them live in NY or CA and those that live in other states are mostly Democrats due to Republican anti-immigration stances.  (at least that's been my perception after some reading over the years and personal experiences, i'm not going to cite a bunch of sources right now though)

The relationship between Trump, the Kushners and Netanyahu goes back a long time though.

Netanyahu lived in NYC during the 80s when he was the Israel ambassador and became friends with Trumps father, Trump, and Jareds Father.  Both the Trump and Kushner companies have decades of history involving real estate, loans, and other other business stuff with Israel.

I mean as I said, it's more about the evangelical Christian vote then the Jewish vote. As most Jewish voters are democrats who feel no political affiliation -- I'm talking about the reformed Jewish ones here, the less religious type. We can assume the more religious you are you'd be more conservative (at least when Jewish, or Christian)

I have some friends who are in areas with a good amount of hasidic Jews, who are VERY conservative. Anecdotal. but yeah.

The evangelical vote is the big thing here, not the Jewish vote.
1346  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 4000+ Bitcoin Up for Auction on: February 05, 2020, 02:19:35 PM
This is something that the government does every so often for seized bitcoin. The auction is for about 4000 bitcoin, as you said before, which is why it makes sense that they want a deposit of about $200,000 -- as the full price of the auction (when making each bitcoin worth 9000) is approx $36 million.

It wouldn't make sense for the person to dump immediately, as the amount of people in this auction is going to drive up the price of bitcoin close to or above market value -- so the person bidding wouldn't make any money if they were to sell immediately. An auction like this also helps the buyer acquire a large deal of bitcoin, without having to use some sort of exchange (which probably wouldn't be able to support this volume) or use an OTC exchange which would probably take out a good amount of fees.

With your question regarding why don't they just sell the crypto at current prices -- they can't, no exchange would be able to support that volume. There's also probably some sort of regulation forcing the government to sell the crypto in some sort of auction. Anyone could buy it as well, Coinbase and Gemini could try to scoop it for below market price and sell it on their own exchange.
1347  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Can supplements be bad for you? on: February 05, 2020, 02:27:56 AM
It's not that supplements are bad for you per say, it's that most people eat a balanced diet already -- in one way or another they're getting all of their vitamins and minerals without having to take some pill.

It's very important for these companies to peddle the fact that you need your vitamins and that you're not currently getting enough. Most of this is honestly fueled by parents telling their children to eating their vitamins, vitamins companies selling a product that literally looks like gummy bears and is sugary so kids like it, and is just passed down from generation to generation now.

If the product was so necessary, like some sort of pill that you take to survive, there'd be no reason for the companies to pour money into licensing to make their vitamins / supplements have spongebob or some character on them. It's bullshit and not necessary to most people.

If you need a supplement of some sort, it should be doctor recommended.
1348  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Money Disppeared [$3400 in Bitcoins] from LocalBitcoins Wallet on: February 04, 2020, 12:01:47 AM
Another topic about LBC scamming its users. This becomes regular in almost all forums. Am not surprised reading more topics about it, as the flags have been rised long time ago, since what op calls 'the golden age', and the same apply to Paxful .
Sadly, there was no alternatives to LBC and Pax and users are/were forced to use one of them to make peer to peer trades due to lack of exchangers in their locals. After a long time since their lunch, and after the appearance of more solutions, old platform users are still forced to use one of the platforms or both after already building a long trade reputation and to keep promoting it as well. Those factors help the two platforms not to take so much care about their reputation and have no issue to deceive some users from time to time .
Users of both platforms should stop using them emmidiatly and rise awarness about how much risky to use them.
And for those who built their reputation there, they fortunetly can now use localcrypto as the best actual alternative then export their reputation from LBC and Pax .

This isn't LBC scamming it's users. It's a user scamming another user on the LBC platform.

LBC held up their end of the bargin -- you sold bitcoin to someone else for a bank transfer, everything was done, and the person in question (not OP, but the person who wrote the medium article) said that the money was in their account and LBC releases the BTC.

A few days later, the money was found out to not really be in the account (hint: money just showing up on your screen on your bank account might not really be there) as it probably wasn't a cash deposit or something along those lines (bank account stolen and digital transfer from zelle or something)
Sorry mate, i have just realised my misunderstanding. It was because of the plenty of topics claiming to be scammed or deceived by localbitcoin, so i just thought this is another accusation.
Even in this case, LBC is the main responsible as the escrow function was set by it. Due to lack of professionalism of the LBC platform, a user can scam other user(s).

I understand the quickness to blame LBC, though in this case it really isn't on them.

How are they to confirm if the funds are actually send? and that the funds aren't fradulent? They're not a bank, they don't have access to your bank records (on either side of the transcation)

Now if you were to argue that they should've stopped an account from (allegedly) being hacked, then I'd be able to agree with you. But still, the person who was 'scammed' should've taken any and all precautions to ensure that this was a cash deposit into his account. Though just by thinking of how this went down, it's pretty simple to see that this person was trying to make a quick buck from selling crypto for Zelle or bank transfer without understanding that money in his account doesn't mean anything.

This is how this person will learn not to do this anymore, or to be a LOT more careful when doing this. Who knows if the Chex banking system (for those who don't know what that is, see here - https://www.creditkarma.com/advice/i/what-is-chexsystems/) will even allow him to get another account with someone else for sometime.
1349  Other / Politics & Society / Re: US Politicians Want to Ban End-to-End Encryption [serious discussion] on: February 03, 2020, 11:33:16 PM
Pretty sure this article was just summarized from BitcoinNews (or some site like that) as I saw it pop up on my Google News timeline and all that.

I personally don't want to see companies forced to end the process of end to end encryption. I'm a privacy advocate (like many on here) and don't think that the government should be able to parse through what I say to other people online just for the shit of it. Plus, there's no evidence that this sort of mass surveilance of the American people (and foreign entities) even helps at all to stop terrorism or other sorts of crime.

We all have a right to privacy, and the government has a right to fuck off from trying to stop us from having that.

They just want to be able to dig up dirt on people, and say that they're doing it to help us when it doesn't help us at all.

1351  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Will the world leaders punish China because of it’s handling of Coronavirus? on: February 03, 2020, 06:16:47 PM
Honestly, China should've warned the rest of the world sooner as they did have advanced knowledge of this. It's going to be their fault if this continues to spread as people have already left China and gone to other countries outside of the world before they decided to stop travel into China (or at least stopping travel from/to particular cities)

China didn't want the news to come out because they knew it would mess with their economy -- and the only thing that keeps the people of China at bay is that the economy keeps going forward. Once the growth stops, and not everyone is employed, things are going to get interesting fast.
1352  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2020 U.S. Presidential Election on: February 03, 2020, 05:40:26 AM
I think that Bernie has a very good chance of winning vs Trump if he's the nominee. Current polling shows him beating Trump in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and North Carolina. You definitely can't rely on polls at this stage, since many people polled are replacing "Biden" or "Bernie" with just "not Trump" in their minds right now, and once the election actually gets under way, they'll be faced with actually voting for a particular candidate. But I think that Sanders has a good chance of speaking to working-class voters in these areas. These voters are not all that ideologically opposed to socialism, and they'd find many of Sanders' economic policies attractive. Effective attacks against Sanders for these voters would focus more on immigration, gun rights, and general social issues (ie. if they feel like Sanders projects an "it's not OK to be a straight white male" vibe, that won't go down well). I'm not sure that Trump will be able to attack Sanders well enough to overcome the appeal of some of the economic issues, especially if the economy starts to falter before then (which IMO is not unlikely). And while there are a lot of moderate Democrats who despise Sanders (ie. people who love Bloomberg and who now think of Bush's presidency longingly), are they actually going to swing any states? They probably won't even vote for Trump: they'll just stay home.

This map starts with the Cook Political Report ratings, and then I assigned three of the toss-ups (NC, AZ, FL) to Trump, and the remaining two toss-ups of WI and PA I assigned to Sanders, which is where he polls the best vs Trump currently and where I think he has the best chance of making his message resonate. That puts him over the top.

The Cook ratings probably assume a more moderate Democrat, but will inserting Bernie actually change anything? Is that really going to help Trump win Nevada or Michigan, for example? I doubt it. If anything it might allow Sanders to pick off some of the states which Cook rates as Republican, like maybe OH.

With Biden, I think that Trump wins all 5 Cook toss-ups and therefore the election.

All that being said, Democratic establishment is going to try every trick in the book to stop Bernie from being the nominee. It'll be sort of like Trump's nomination, but the Democratic party's establishment is more powerful than the Republican party's establishment, Bernie himself seems less able to push back against this establishment, and of course there are also many other differing factors, so Bernie could definitely be defeated. At this point I'd say that there's less than a 50% chance of Bernie being the nominee.

I'd say that if it's Trump vs Biden, Trump wins. If it's Trump vs Bernie, there's a tossup as both of them have energized bases that hate the other.

Crazy thing is seeing Bernie polling so good in Minnesota, I think Trump lost the state by about -- 40,000 votes -- flipping a state like that would change the game as those 10 electoral votes changes the president. You could say the same about any state that's within a percent or two leading in the polls. But as you said before (and I agree with), the polls don't really mean anything at this point (and even when we get into November, as they could be horribly unreliable)

Who knows if a Bernie ticket is going to hurt democrats down the ballot (as he's not as moderate as a good amount of the caucus) -- though yet again, if Bernie wins the nomination it looks very similar to the Trump takeover of the Republican party.

Iowa is tomorrow folks, we'll see VERY soon if Bernie can win this one. If he wins Iowa and NH, he'll most likely be able to ride the Big MO.

1353  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: How to buy bitcoin with cash or cash deposit in 2020 [NEW] on: February 03, 2020, 01:52:22 AM
I do not think that these methods are ideal for this year since many things have happened recently, for example:

 - Localbitcoin has placed restrictions on many countries, so I do not think it is the right place for many citizens, especially since such restrictions may be imposed on more countries.
 - The same applies to Paxful.
 - Bitcoin ATMs: These machines are not available all over the world, so it is your location that determines the benefit in addition to the high fees.
 - Bisq: There are not enough trading volumes.

LocalBitcoins/Paxful are both pretty good if you're in the US, though you are right about the fact of increased KYC regulations in the last few years. Sucks, but that's the way it goes.

Bitcoin ATM's are pretty solid if you're in the US (and some other countries) though you're paying a pretty penny to buy Bitcoin without using any sort of KYC stuff. It's typically a few percent (up to 10-15 percent)

Bisq kinda sucks cause of the volume problem, plus there are a good deal of restrictions present on volume from new users. I love the idea behind it, but it doesn't work if there's no volume (or little volume)
1354  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Money Disppeared [$3400 in Bitcoins] from LocalBitcoins Wallet on: February 03, 2020, 01:14:57 AM
While I know the OP isn't the person who was selling Bitcoin on LBC, this can be taken as a lesson to all of those that think they're going to be able to make EASY money selling bitcoin on LBC/Paxful for bank transfers and think that they're going to quickly make 5 percent every couple days on their money. Newsflash, that's not possible and scammers are going to try to 'catch you slipping' (not doing proper verification on cash deposits) to make a quick buck off you (in this case, $1400)

Don't get involved in selling Bitcoin if you think you're going to be able to make easy money, it's not easy and it's you're going to have to get used to weeding through the scammers. That's just how this goes.

Most banks in the US are going to flag large cash deposits being put into your account all the time, it's going to get you fucked up in the end.

1356  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Spain wants Gibealtar as part of Brexit. on: February 02, 2020, 09:18:42 PM
Politicians should stick to politics, and leave trade deals to businesses. All politicians seem to be able to do is to impose taxes and tariffs.

...Businesses can setup deals, but they're unable to setup trade deals (which is just a word used to signify the regulations, tariffs, taxes, etc that are apart of trading in our globalized world) Politicans (and businesses through lobbying and so on) are and must be apart of the trade process.

It looks so weird on the world map seeing how Gibraltar belongs to the UK but not Spain.

Then I actually read the story about it and saw that it was Spain that left the soil to the British in 1713...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Status_of_Gibraltar

After reading about it, I don't think the UK gonna give it back just because Spain asked it nicely.  Cool It has been three hundred years

They're not really asking nicely, they're working in the background with the EU to try to force Britain into giving it up. They're backing the land claim of Spain to control Gibraltar, while members of the Johnson (Britian) government are telling the EU not to push Gibraltar around.
1357  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [List] Instant exchanges on: February 02, 2020, 09:08:01 PM
Just after doing some inital looking at some of the fees (the difference in exchange rate between some sites and a site like binance) This would mean that the fee (or convenience fee) for using a site like FixedFloat would be in the realm of .6-.5 percent. So about 1/2 a percent. This means that when they say fixed float, they're not messing around.

Not that bad to be honest, I think that's pretty solid if you want to try to be as anonymous as possible or if you want to use the LN (which is possible on Fixed Float)

Going to be trying some of the sites out and editing this soon.
1358  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: YouTube network that pays with BTC on: January 31, 2020, 07:22:38 PM
@OP

I searched for quite a while this summer and found none, expect the suggestions in the link posted by @LTU_btc. I even started to check the networks listed on youtube one by one. I didn't check all of them, I had given up page #10. If you finally find any it will be welcome.

I can't find alternatives for YouTube that pays in Bitcoin or ethereum

You might be interested in other alternatives but pays on other altcoin or token.

Check this one https://cinema.cash/
They only pay in BCH and I just found this on Google.

Another one is https://d.tube/
Which mention from here. They are paying  with Steemit token or Steemit dollar.

I haven't tested them yet but it seems d.tube is more trusted than cinema.cash

@OP is not looking for an alternative to Youtube, he's looking for an MCN that pay in BTC. It's totally different than what you're suggesting, not even related.

Hm. What sort of fees had been taken out by the network that you referenced for paying people in Bitcoin? I'd expect that a good deal of people would be interested in making this happen again (me included) if there was some money to be made.

This is a way to get your subscribers to pay you in bitcoin - http://www.watchmybit.com/ - but that doesn't really help you when it comes to the fact that you're trying to make money with adsense.

What kinda fees does WU charge for Adsense? And what country is this (if you're willing to share)

He didn't talk about a fee in BTC taken by a network, he talked about Western Union fees

Unsure if you're just trying to hit a postcount or something for your signature campaign.

If you were to actually have read what I wrote, and the OP, you'd see that OPs post stated an old network that is defunct as of right now. I was asking how much they charged (originally) for processing things in bitcoin.

Lets add a bit of value to this forum instead of spamming responses that help no one.

I wish that had emailed me when they decided to shut the miners down, I emailed them daily for about a week and didn’t get a reply from them until now.

Just cause I'm curious, had they been running the miners for this time and not paying you out for this? Would be  a pretty quick way for these companies to make a few bucks without you even noticing. Just me being a bit of a pessimist and cynic.

If they do not return the machines or if they try to stiff you, do quote me and I'll link resources on contacting the Attorney for the state of Wyoming and we'll ensure that they're kept reigned in.

Glad I can help.
