Well isn't that how this whole thing works. Everyone lies their echo chambers so they go to where they can find the information that they beleive in repeated over and over.

It's why Conservatives like Fox and Liberals like CNN.

I think TecShare is right in the sense that all of these news companies are mainstream news companies though, and all of them are willing to support the other side if it helps them in the longrun. Think about when 9/11 happened and Bush wanted to invade Iraq -- the media were the ones that sold the idea to the American people, and most people had supported the war initially. Both sides did that, not one or the other.

They're still the same.

Back then I was very opposed to Bush policies. The media, as it always does supports the establishment, be it government or corporate, because they know who butters their bread. They both serve shit sandwiches, but one has some red food coloring in it and one has some blue food coloring in it. Back then "liberal" meant leave people who aren't bothering anyone else alone, and being liberal was anti-establishment. Now being "liberal" means not leaving people alone until they comply with the establishment. There is nothing liberal about the modern left just like there wasn't anything conservative about the Bush era right.

This is part of the media's role in electing Trump. Everyone sees the media down on their knees slurping down establishment dick be it red or blue, and they attack no one more than Donald Trump. Their consistent targeting of him essentially is the seal of approval by the people as he is rejected by the establishment. He was elected as a rejection of all things establishment on both sides of the isle, and that is why he is going to win again in 2020.

Hm, very interesting actually. Any bit of reading I've done about the 90's and then into the 00's shows that it was a very conservative time -- maybe thought to be a bit more conservative then it actually was because of how we perceive the two terms at this point.

Even if the media attacks him all the time, he's still the biggest provider of news and is a top headline every single day.

1523  Other / Politics & Society / Re: are banksters the thugs, nazis and racists of tomorrow? on: December 19, 2019, 09:18:25 AM
how are the bankers going to protect their financial sovereignty? in a world in which the people will get spammed with decentral currencies

@KingScorpio your title seemed so exciting, but in the post you have added nothing that justifies your title.
In my opinion you’re right to call them as thugs and racists, but Nazis no I would not call them that unless you can prove that they have executed hundreds of Jews. The answer is quiet simple as banks are protected by the governments, and those governments will never legalise crypto’s hence there’ll be no competition for the banks.

In case people are wondering why I termed banks as racists:

https://nypost.com/2019/12/11/jpmorgan-chase-employees-caught-making-racist-comments-to-intimidating-black-clients/

I hate to use this defense of people, but I'm going to use it anyway. There are bad apples in any profession, and for certain professions it's going to be a lot easier to see. Ex: You're going to know when the people in law enforcement are bad people, because they're typically being recorded or something along those lines.

But to go onto the articles that you've linked. The Apple discrimination one I think is bullshit. I think that what happened is that one person put in their joint income - his and his wife -- while his wife only put in her solo income. Maybe there's some debt we don't know about, occupation changes, etc. Credit is a very interesting place, though I wouldn't think Goldman Sachs would willingly and openly go and discriminate like this -- doesn't really make sense and seems to have no net gain.

Just bad PR.

joe biden is the biggest trash american's can vote for, he is just a career politician, claims he is fighting racist injustice but defacto thinks "after me the flood" and just turns race relation upside down, instead of seeking to boost equity.

trump is unknowingly the most communist candidate.

biden represents whats wrong with democracy

Me and some friends have described Biden as the candidate that the Democrats who vote Democrat down the line will vote for. The people who don't really know too much about politicans, haven't really kept up, but are voting for the name that is most familiar. Most of the time, that name is going to be Biden.

I really wanna see how Pete does in Iowa, could determine if THE BIG MO can drag him onwards. Pretty sure he literally put all of his resources there.

I'm guessing this is a drone attack, well this is the perfect time to say that drone attacks have been argued to be one of the most humane methods of warfare. May not seem true at first glance, but I think it's much better for both sides to be able to blow up one spot in particular at a particular time with little to no chance of missing the mark. WAIT A SECOND BEFORE YOU SPAM ME WITH LINKS ABOUT INNOCENT PEOPLE DYING IN THESE ATTACKS -- Yes, there are issues with drones as well. But what's better, carpet bombing cities to take out one terrorist or killing a few with precision.

https://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/15/sunday-review/the-moral-case-for-drones.html

https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2013/08/drones-actually-the-most-humane-form-of-warfare-ever/278746/

oh nice. so it was a very humane attack. the "good people" kind of attack.

I'm so proud! Hope is restored again. go G.I. Joe!

thank you for the explanation.

Only noticing this now from a week ago.

But what would you rather have. A place being carpet bombed and hundreds of people dying or a few innocent casualties from a drone strike? Yes all of us want 0, and that's the intention every day. I think drones do actually lower this number closer and closer to zero. We're also saying that we don't need to send US boots on the ground in as many areas as we had to.
1526  Other / Politics & Society / Re: BREAKING: Trump Officially Becomes 3rd U.S. President to be Impeached on: December 19, 2019, 08:16:42 AM
That number of Dem defections is about what was expected. It would've been interesting if the impeachment had been defeated, but that seemed incredibly unlikely.

I heard a theory that the Democrats might never actually send the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Then they'll be able to imply that the impeachment proves that Trump is corrupt without the Republicans being able to respond that he was acquitted. Once he's acquitted, it'll be much easier for Republicans to build a narrative that the whole thing was a witch hunt and a waste of time by the Democrats.

But I think that in any case it's not going to have any huge effect for either side, since in November most swing voters won't be thinking about it anymore. Maybe it'll be a small net help for Republicans in the House elections.

Pretty sure Pelosi is going to sit on sending it to the house until Schumer and McConnell are done negotiating. Pretty much means that Pelosi is going to be able to control when this comes out, which could hurt both sides. If she holds onto it too long it will look too political, but if she does it at a perfect time -- when she knows some GOP moderates may flip to supporting Schumers rules in the Senate -- then they may be able to get more out of it then a quick ending.

It seems like the Voters are pretty split on it anyway, so I think the only thing this causes Trump is an asterisk next to his name in saying that he's been impeached. Which can be worn with honor, or with disgrace. Trump can really invigorate the party to come out to vote b/c of this though.

1527  Other / Politics & Society / Re: POPULATION on: December 18, 2019, 11:09:13 PM
When most people think of overpopulation, they tend to conflate this with the issue of space, and living comfortably when the population around them is becoming more and more dense. In some places in the world, this unfortunately is the case. Take a look at any drone shot of the streets of Mumbai, where people seemed to be crammed in like sardines, or documentaries on Japanese apartment complexes filled with rooms no bigger than a closet, in some cases, even a cage, due to the amount of available space so limited in those areas.

However, if you look at the global population as a whole, you can in fact fit all of Earth's inhabitants into a space no bigger than the state of Texas, and if piled on top of each other, in terms of just pure mass, it wouldn't even reach the top lip of the Grand Canyon. The real issue when it comes to overpopulation is resources, or "carrying capacity".
Carrying capacity is simply the number of people, other living organisms, or crops that a region can support without environmental degradation. Certain regions of the world have a higher carrying capacity as others, however the real issue lies in the global carrying capacity. As a whole we are increasingly diminishing our resources to the point where they cannot return back to their normal levels. Take a look at over fishing for an example...

This National Geographic article is really interesting and really shows the drastic effects of over fishing
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/2019/02/climate-change-is-shrinking-essential-fisheries/

Cool stats in regards to fitting all the humans into the size of Texas, sounds fun Smiley Cheesy

But on a serious note, I think when most people think of overpopulation they're most likely thinking about resource scarcity and having to fight over resources. This is already a problem today if you look at certain middle eastern countries fighting over water: either freshwater, lakes, port access, etc. Imagine a scenario where world powers are fighting over drinking water for their people?

Then again I mean there are solutions that we don't know about yet to these brings -- either through turning salt walter into fresh water (currently happening just very expensive) or literally just growing food in labs (happening now, probably expensive and not profitable)

So we'll see where this goes. Maybe the forum will still be here, maybe not.
1528  Other / Politics & Society / Re: can the media be sued for falsifying serious information? on: December 18, 2019, 11:02:02 PM
Yes.   Slander, defamation and libel can be claimed in a suit. Case would be stronger if you can show financial loss.

If anyone's done it, I'm sure they have.

Think that one kids family sued CNN. (The kids who 'smirked" at the Indian dude who was harassing him

This is true, but from what I understand, you also need to establish intent, which is a quite difficult standard that often could require significant surveillance to be accomplished, unless you get lucky and find some one who is very incompetent as well as corrupt.

Pretty sure intent would only have to be shown in regards to a public figure, which is very hard to do. Think of someone like Clinton or Trump trying to prove slander from the media, they'd have to hit the higher bar of showing intent to hurt them.

But for people like us, we'd just have to show that it was false and it could have reasonably of been known to be false at the time of showing. Still not easy, but most of the time the news companies are just going to settle with you -- as they did Jewell -- because it's much easier to just pay and move on rather then to pay the lawyers hundreds of thousands of dollars and then still have to make a massive pay out.
1529  Other / Politics & Society / FBI Ordered to Fix National Security Wiretaps after IG Report on: December 18, 2019, 02:56:56 PM
This doesn't typically happen, but the FISA court has come out with a statement regarding the wiretapping of Trump campaign and former campaign officials and they're saying that they had been misled by the FBI.

This never happens but here is the report - https://int.nyt.com/data/documenthelper/6600-fisa-court-demands-answers-fro/87f1132ddc399b0c99b1/optimized/full.pdf#page=1 - from the presiding FISA judge stating that the FBI had provided false information and had withheld information from FISA judges in order to get a warrant granted to wiretap Trump Campaign officials.

Here's some quotes from the above statement.

Quote
The frequency with which representations made by F.B.I. personnel turned out to be unsupported or contradicted by information in their possession, and with which they withheld information detrimental to their case, calls into question whether information contained in other F.B.I. applications is reliable -  Judge Collyer wrote.

The FBI responded by saying that their FBI Director (A Trump appointee) is taking appropriate action against those that had withheld information and provided false information and that they've implemented a 40 point corrective plan to fix this from happening again.

I doubt anything will really come out of this, but I guess we'll see. Just pretty crazy to see the FISA court come out like this, as they never do.
1530  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump Writes Pelosi An Open 6 Page Letter For Historical Purposes on: December 18, 2019, 02:50:46 PM
Pretty solid read. Trump knows that he's going to be impeached by the House at this point, and he wants to point out the problems that he sees with the house impeachment and he knows that by doing this he's going to be able to fire up his base a little bit. That's the reason behind the majority of the things that Trump does, firing up his base in order to bring them out to vote.

If he continues to convince them that the Democrats are only doing this because they think they're going to be unable to beat him in 2020, that means he's going to have amazing turnout as Republicans hate this process and think that it's a sham.

1531  Other / Politics & Society / Re: can the media be sued for falsifying serious information? on: December 18, 2019, 02:25:05 PM
Yes.   Slander, defamation and libel can be claimed in a suit. Case would be stronger if you can show financial loss.

If anyone's done it, I'm sure they have.

Think that one kids family sued CNN. (The kids who 'smirked" at the Indian dude who was harassing him

I wouldn't use this as the case for an example, because we're unable to know what the outcome is at the time. I'd use one that's already done with -- the Story of Richard Jewell (True Story). Don't know if anyone is heard about it, though the entire story is in theaters right now and it's a Clint Eastwood movie, I've heard good things but I'll move on.

So this surrounds the 1996 Olympics, where Richard Jewell, a security guard in the area finds a bomb in the area. He clears out the area and saves most people from the blast. In the media he's said to be a hero securtity guard who saved tons and tons of people from death. Great, great.

But this narrative quickly shifts, as people in Law Enforcement and in the media think that this is 'too much' out of a local security guard. They start to accuse him of planting the bomb to move up in society, pretty much saying that his life was bad before this and he set the bomb so he'd be able to find it and get some real recognition in his life.

No evidence of any of it, but the FBI / Local Law Enforcement / The Mainstream Media ran with the story and it almost ruined the guys life. The FBI even almost coereced him into admitting to doing it through tricking him into thinking that he was helping them.

At the end of all of this, a Federal Attorney had come out and cleared Jewells name and said that there had been no merits to the accusations and that the people had been wrong. Unsure of if they caught the person who had really planted the bomb.

BUT onto the lawsuits. Jewell had sued a good deal of the major news networks, they had settled with him for I think in the realm of 500-800k each per news company. Sad story though, as the guy died like 2 years after the judgement at age 44.

I'd recommend seeing the movie.

1532  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where do you stand on abortion? Let's have a civil debate. on: December 18, 2019, 02:14:40 PM
This is an issue that has been dividing the country for a while, but more so in recent years.

Unfortunately, with the rise of hyper-bipartisanship, people feel the need to immediately side with the argument that belongs on their side of the political spectrum, even if they do not fully understand the implications of what they are saying. People get so heated and animated over this argument, on both sides, calling people who perform abortions MURDERERS and people on the other side saying that the baby is "part of their body, so it is their choice". It is stupid in my mind to have these arguments, as both sides both present arguments that are logical and make sense. There is nothing to disprove, or show using facts, it is purely subjective, and therefore I do not think we will ever find a peaceful common ground when it comes to abortion.

In my personal opinion, I believe if a woman is pregnant and not prepared to have a child, they should make the decision to get an abortion at the very earliest stages, otherwise, just put the child up for adoption. Of course, there lies the argument of how early is early enough, which again, I do not think we will ever find a middle ground for. There's that infamous clip of Ben Shapiro telling the girl who is claiming to abort a "bundle of cells", to which Ben replies that SHE IS technically just a bundle of cells. While funny, he isn't wrong, and it even made me question my own beliefs a little bit.

To conclude, I think Dave Chappelle presented a funny, yet valid compromise to this issue in one of his recent comedy specials...
He says that when arguing about the issue of abortion, men should stay out of the discussion all together. This is purely a women's issue, it is their body, we should not be the ones to decide what they are and are not allowed to do with the child they are bearing. HOWEVER, in the case where a woman has the ability to choose whether or not she wants to keep the baby, we as men should have the ability to decide whether we want to pay for the child or not!

Arguments over abortion are a waste of time, as you will rarely change anyone's mind about the issue. All it does is create unhealthy debate and drives a wedge between the right and left.

Hate to nitpick here, but the term you're looking for is Hyper Partisanship, the term you used -- hyper bipartisanship would just mean that people work together all the time.

But yes, the loudest on both sides are not the majority on both sides in the least. I think there are a good deal of women who have abortions who hate having to do it, and think that it is horrible because they're ending the life of 'their child' but they know that in this very moment they wouldn't be able to provide for the child like a child should be provided for. And honestly, that's OKAY. I think we'd be a much better place if certain people in certain financial situations knew that they shouldn't be having kids right now because it wouldn't be a healthy and happy life for the parents and the children.

I know I'm probably going to get hate for the above, but I'll go even further for a second. Even if a person does have the resources to provide for the child, but knows that they're not equipped -- personally both mentally and physically, to go through with raising a child, then I don't see anything wrong with aborting that child.

We should continue to push for safe sex, birth control pill usage, and so on instead of fighting about abortions.
1533  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Horowitz Report and FBI Abuse - WSJ on: December 18, 2019, 02:06:57 PM
I still wouldn't say it's an assured win for Trump though, the Dems can still pull some shenanigans.

LOL "shenanigans." You mean like winning the popular and electoral votes?

What's clear though is that the country has become very polarized that if a Dem wins the presidency, it'll have a hard time satisfying people. If msm and social media don't have a leftist bias, Dem president would get the same treatment Trump is getting now.

Well, that's what FOX News is for. FOX News is popular because there indeed exists a bias toward the left in most mainstream news, and there is a consumer demand for counterbalance.

I think the bias in the general media exists because leftist ideology just makes for better news. And by "better news" I mean it attracts more viewers and sells more commercials. It can be more sensational or plain interesting. Whereas "conservative news" tends to be dry and boring.

Well isn't that how this whole thing works. Everyone lies their echo chambers so they go to where they can find the information that they beleive in repeated over and over.

The whole Hurricane story is old news, but I'm pretty sure Trump wants to be 'right' and to prove that he's smarter then the experts. I think this quote kinda sums it all up from the Atlantic.

Fourth, there’s no reason to believe that Trump’s comments on Sunday were anything more than his typical bullshitting: He knew the storm was going to hit the South, he knows Alabama is a southern state, and it’s important to him electorally, so he rambled on. While there’s no reason to believe the initial statement was anything other than an unintentional error, it’s unclear at this point whether Trump now believes his own lie or recognizes it and just won’t let go. It’s also unclear which would be worse.

So I don't think there is any reason for Trump doing this, just bullshitting about his Southern states and failing and not being able to accept that he's wrong.

James Comey was the director of the FBI but claims he did not know about the FISA abuse and then claimed during an interview in 2018 that the FISA application process in which Carter Paige, former campaign associate of the Trump campaign, did not contain any errors of signs of abuse. According to the inspector General report, there was a total of 17 significant errors in the FISA application process which points towards rampant FISA application abuse in the wire tapping of Carter Paige.

To add, Comey claimed that the debunked Steele Dossier was apart of a broad "mosaic" in regards to granting the FISA warrant when the Inspector General claimed in an open hearing that the Steel Dossier was a "central" piece in granting the application. And James Comey still claims the integrity of the FBI was upheld? Unbelievable.

I love how even when he talks about what Trump got wrong. He practically says that 'we didn't illegally spy/wiretap the trump campaign' Yeah man, it wasn't fucking illegal because you got a secret FISA court to sign off on it while you lied to them about why he needed to be spyed on. So while it's not illegal, there were serious issues with this guy even getting the warrant in the first place.

Puts into perspective how horrible they treat private American citizens rights.

Hey there,

Currently looking for a developer(s) for some ecommerce websites that I manage. They're currently on wordpress, though I would truly like to move over to Shopify for one of the websites and to clean up the others.

Not too big of a fan of Wordpress, though I would be willing to stay for my other two websites that aren't big on ecommerce.

Pay is going to be competitive, something we'd be able to talk about over PM's on here or on telegram.

Do let me know if any of you guys are interested, I'd love to first extend this over to the bitcointalk community instead of having to deal with the scummy Upwork team.

Thanks!

How did a 16-year old girl get to speak at the UN?
What knowledge can she possibly possess in order to change world politics?

Do we want a 16-year old to guide the worlds deciosions?
Is this just a kid to target emotions in order to influence people for your agenda or is it a climate change expert who read through the literature?

-----------
My opinion is terrible.
Someone is using this girl for his interest.

I agree, and while I think it's important that we bring awareness to the issue of climate change, I did not think this was the proper way to do it.
As soon as I saw Greta making her speech I couldn't help but wonder... who is this girl? and what makes her special enough to get up on that podium and speak in front of the world? If someone is to speak to the nation on an issue that important, it should be an expert in that field, not a little girl, who I would presume has some background in acting or the performing arts, reading off of a script.

I have no problem with the message she was trying to convey, and while a little extreme, it definitely caught the world's eye. However, I would presume that most sensible people watching this speech would realize that SOMEONE had to have put her there, and put her there only to target emotions and push an agenda, as you said. To me I couldn't get over the fact of how childish this seemed to play the sympathy card on such an important issue, and it in many ways de-legitimize a very real argument.

Would have to agree here.

She's without a doubt a little girl that probably does have these opinions about Climate Change, yes. But who propped her up to give her this stage, this isn't something that people her age are typically able to do by herselves.

How is she able to be taking off from school and travelling the world for this long. She's obviously being supported by left wing groups to be able to do this, and all her ideas and speeches weren't all made by herself. She's a puppet, and she's being used to spread ideas.

If you link trade deals to Brexit withdrawal, then it isn't Brexit. We need to regain complete control, and then leave the industries to sort out trade deals. I hope Boris does try to help us to regain independence, but he is an Eton/Oxford banker, so it is unlikely that he will allow us to break free completely. The EU is controlled by the morphed British Empire, and the ruling dynasties there are the Rothscilds, The Vatican and the British Crown. They also control the UK civil service, Westminster, the police and the judiciary. They also control the mainstream media. It is difficult to see how Boris can get us away from that.

If he really wants to improve the NHS, then banning Statins, repurchasing NHS property, and taking back control of services will save massive cash outflows for generations to come. Lets have some research into the real effects of allopathic drugs, and reduce over prescribing them.

Then he can address banking. The UK used to be a capitalist nation, but the EU is one of the vehicles that has consistently transferred capital out of the country. You can't have capitalism without capital, so lets return to wealth creation, and get back to rebuilding capital and entrepreneurship.

+1 To this.

The guy knows he can't just leave the EU without any deal, or leaving without any trade deals. That'd kill the country.

Fixing NHS is going to be interesting, but ya know, not impossible. I mean you have a growing and aging population which is going to get expensive, but British healthcare politics isn't really my cup of tea -- hehe.
1539  Other / Politics & Society / Re: FBI Arrests Virgil Griffith, ETH Programmer, for Giving Tech Talk in DPRK🇰🇵 on: December 15, 2019, 04:42:06 PM
He might be one of those /r/LateStageCapitalism far leftists, seeing the DPRK as a lesser evil to the imperialist USA.

Rodger Ver tweeted that since sanctions are an act of War, the US should immediately drop all sanctions against NK, as he sees war as universally evil.

I view this as an "absolute" and to be an extremest view. I don't believe many things are either good or bad in any and all situations and circumstances. War is generally a negative outcome, but sanctions are far superior than boots on the ground, which involves bloodshed. Absent some kind of sanctions against NK, the NK government would likely commit their own acts of war against other countries that would involve bloodshed. There are also other military conflicts that produced better outcomes than the probable outcome had the US military not gotten involved.

It is possible that Griffith had similar viewpoints, and wanted to do something to make sanctions less effective (and of course profit in doing so).

Well that's great and all but his views really don't mean anything.

His views don't mean anything when he was working alongside the North Korean government to  be doing some interesting things. If he had been working with individual people in North Korea -- not affiliated with the government -- to help them use Crypto so they'd be able to avoid the regime, no one would care and this guy would look amazing.

But he was working with the government to skirt international sanctions, and that's not something everyone can clap about.

But they were nazis at first place. Who cares about all the rest?

Nazi is a made up term in recent time.
They are and were National Socialists.

I don't think the name is a good point of evidence to be using. I wouldn't say that the North Korean Government is democratic because their official name is 'Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea' Nothing about them is democratic nor for the people. Same thing with China I'm pretty sure.

The Nazis wanted to redefine Socialism, as I said before, they wanted to build a new system around the term socialism -- which was practically authoritarianism with private ownership, though you still had to work with the government or you'd be fucked -- think of something like China, which I think is a pretty good example of such government.

They're not socialists.

Look at Squatz parroting Captain Postmodern talking points over here. Careful, next you will be telling me true Communism has never been tried because all the other times they tried it turned out to be massive genocidal failures.

Heh.

I'm not one of those people that's going to argue that Venezuela isn't Socialism or anything along those lines. Or to say that the USSR isn't Communism. All of the tries of true socialism in the world have ended in the deaths of millions.

But it's just wrong to say that Nazis are socialist, because they aren't.
