701  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-03] The White House is currently monitoring Bitcoin on: December 03, 2017, 06:29:53 PM
This should be no surprise. The USA is one of the countries where bitcoin is very widespread so the government doesn't want to lose tax money, and is looking at ways to monetize it.

No country has to lose out on tax if they charge people reasonable to fair rates. If you have to pay like 10-15% in tax on a yearly basis, of course people will prefer to not declare any of their holdings and profits. It's my money, which I have already paid tax over throughout the years, and still they want more. It's like legal theft from the government's side, and it's ridiculous. If they just charged people like 1-2% on a yearly basis, people wouldn't really feel the need to hide their holdings, especially if you take Bitcoin's growth into consideration. Next step is forcing exchanges to snitch on their customers to obtain personal information.

10-15%? That is a dream for most people in the world. Countries charge up to 50% tax on your income, in some of the Scandinavian countries. Payment of taxes also depends on the culture. If the government provides for people, then people generally don't mind paying taxes.
With respect to Bitcoin, I don't think the governments' biggest fear is tax avoidance. They are at risk of losing power over monetary policy.
702  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: December 02, 2017, 11:54:40 AM
India after winning the toss in final test match against SL have decided to bat and are 116/2 in first session. Vijay has made the half century and batting well. India would like to win or draw this match so that they can win the series by 1-0. On other hand SL would like to consolidate this match by winning and making the series 1-1 and also go home with some confidence as the previous match was just a nightmare for them.

India are looking very comfortable in spite of losing those 2 early wickets of Dhawan and Pujara. Both Kohli and Vijay have made half centuries and look good to convert them. The depth of the Indian batting is a big strength. Even if wickets fall, you know that you will have no respite from strokemakers as an opposition bowler. And Sri Lanka doesn't have too many strike bowlers.

India scored 371 runs in 90 overs by losing 4 wickets and most of the runs contribution from only two players Vijay and captain Kohli. Both of them scored 150+ runs in this innings and Kohli is still playing. I believe India may reach 500+ runs in this innings and like in last match they may not bat in the second innings to win this test match too.

India have scored at more than 4 runs/ over in a test match! They were toying with the Sri Lankan bowlers and Virat Kohli is still batting on an unbeaten 156.  Murali Vijay also scored 150+ runs on his comeback and this should be good preparation for India's tour of South Africa.
I think India will bat for only a couple of more sessions tomorrow before thinking of declaring.
703  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is about to reach 11,000 again on: December 02, 2017, 11:50:41 AM
Bitcoin is nearly reaching 11,000 again

Will it break the 11,000 USD mark then reach the 12,000 easily or it will start to fall again.

For me i didn't expect that bitcoin price will rebound so fast.

It did cross $11,000 and went as high as $11,300 before retracing. The jump wasn't a surprise considering that the CTFC has given the green light for listing of Bitcoin futures. Now what matters is whether $11,000 is retained after the hype dies down.
We could see some short sellers enter the fray once Bitcoin futures list.
704  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-12-02] Coinbase Ordered to Hand Over 14,000 User Accounts to the IRS on: December 02, 2017, 11:46:54 AM
The fact that the government has access to your trading account will have a deterrence effect. More people will report gains and pay taxes, just because they know that the government can catch you if you don't. Sadly, the government has been allowed to go 'fishing' disregarding the privacy rights of people.
705  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Avoid Bitcoin Like the Plague" - John Bogle, Warning shot from Wall St? on: December 01, 2017, 07:54:03 AM
As reported by Bloomberg, John Bogle, founder of the Vanguard Group (Managing $4.5 trillion in assets), said "Avoid bitcoin like the plague. Did I make myself clear? " and went on to say that nothing is supporting Bitcoin except the hope that you can sell it to someone for more than you paid.

John Bogle is a god of Wall St and member of the Council of Foreign Relations.  His comments, I think, are a warning to Wall St and the Finance Sector that the powers that be are not on board with Cryptocurrency and they are going to try to kill it.

While I don't believe cryptos can be killed, pressure from the banks/Wall St can curb mass adoption.  What do you think will be the finance sectors move against crypto?

Bitcoin has clearly divided Wall Street. You have people like John Bogle and Jamie Dimon saying that Bitcoin is bound to collapse, while you have bulls like Novogratz as well. Others like Goldman who are on the fence. I don't think Wall Street has started lobbying on Bitcoin right now.
706  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can bitcoin reach $15000 mark by first quarter of 2018 ? on: December 01, 2017, 07:38:07 AM
Let's not consider the recent price dip because we all know that it will raise again in sometime but do you think bitcoin will git the mark of $15000 by the end of March 2018?

Right now, the momentum is not with Bitcoin. 2017 has been fabulous, but I do not expect the bull run to keep continuing. We had people rushing in to buy Bitcoins, as the price increased. This caused the price to rise even more. Some of them might start cashing out now, providing a balance.
707  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: None of you are financial experts, it's scary on: November 30, 2017, 06:53:14 PM

I've been following this forum for a few weeks now and I'm honestly shocked as to how little 95% you know about economics or finance in general.

The Bitcoin community is filled with young, uneducated, and over-excited children "playing" with digital currency/asset as a hobby.  None of you have the slightest clue as to how quickly the entire value of Bitcoin could be brought down to $0 in a matter of days.

Put aside your egos and "to the moon" mirages and think about the following.  How will Bitcoin react if:

1.) The US government starts to regulate it? Or ban it? (GASP!)
2.) Another exchange is found to be a fraud?
3.) A bank or government created it's own cryptocurrency that's legal and trusted?
4.) Bitcoin has trouble scaling and it take days or weeks for transactions to process?
5.) Mining is no long feasible or profitable?

I am hopeful that a cryptocurrency will emerge in the near future.  However, in my opinion, the issues above need to be addressed for any new cryptocurrency to even have a shot.

Save the "oMfG you're a N00B with 1 p0St" bullshit.  I am an active investor in many different markets and industries. I'm hoping to open some of your eyes and bring you back to reality.

Most rational people would only invest a very small portion of their net worth in Bitcoin. So even if the price does go to zero, they will live with it. Bitcoin as a technology has been truly revolutionary and has the potential to grow exponentially. So nothing wrong about people speculating about that.
708  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-15] Government Causes Bitcoin to Land in India's Supreme Court on: November 30, 2017, 12:32:24 PM
Having a country scare its own public of "ban" of Bitcoin will be detrimental as her population will fall behind on the wealth curve of the world and become more poor than others.

With that said, Bitcoin has already been banned all over the world by all big banks in nearly all countries since 2013 (for over 4-years) and the banks have completely failed at stopping Bitcoin's growth. At a bank, just try to do a bank transaction say its for "Bitcoin" and watch your transaction be blocked for review.

BUT Everyone in all countries are still finding a way to get Bitcoins. They simply never say "Bitcoin" when dealing with banks. People are smart.

Notice how Bitcoin has for years successfully defeated all opposition?

A ban would only be detrimental to the country's law abiding citizens. The criminals and tax waders would continue to use Bitcoins. As long as Bitcoin is fungible and accepted by people across the globe, they would be happy to do business in bitcoins. And they profit from an appreciating currency as well.
709  Economy / Speculation / Re: How do I identify end of rally? on: November 30, 2017, 08:44:25 AM
Hi,

Is there any indicators or ways to identify the end of rally of a particular coin? Can I get a early indication by looking at the market section in coinmarketcap.com or any other ways? How do we early exit with profit?

thanks

If anybody can do This, they will be bloody rich. It is impossible to pick either the top or the bottom of a market. The best strategy is to sell if you think the market is overvalued. But that doesn't mean the price won't go higher, before it crashes.
710  Economy / Speculation / Re: $11k - when do you sell on: November 30, 2017, 08:35:12 AM
Hey guys,

lets make it short:
1) yes bitcoin is the future and the price will increase on the long run, but:
2) we are currently obv. bubbling (what is not happening the first time).

So my question is - do you sell now in order to get a cheaper entry soon?

I think you guys agree that there has to be a price correction in the nearer future...

Thanks for your input!

If you believe that Bitcoin is the future, you should just hold for the long term. Your greed to pick up cheap coins by trading might result in you missing a rally. I had friends who sold at $2000 earlier this year, who thought that they would buy back when the price fell below $1000 again. They are still on the sidelines, waiting for their imaginary dip.
711  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-29] Nasdaq To Launch Bitcoin Futures In 2018 on: November 30, 2017, 08:29:11 AM
This is the copy-car effect. Exchanges have no idea what the demand for Bitcoin futures will be, but they don't want to cede the first mover advantage to CME. Nasdaq has a reputation for being the go to exchange for tech-related stuff and they don't want to miss the Bitcoin wave.
712  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Volatility - Somebody is fucking around. on: November 29, 2017, 09:23:30 PM
Problem is that the other Altcoins are dropping, too.

That is not a problem. That is to be expected. The correlation between different cryptocurrencies (except maybe Bitcoin Cash) is very very high. When Bitcoin sneezes, the rest of the cryptoworld catches a fever.
713  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Recent dumping of bitcoin : how to take advantage of it on: November 29, 2017, 09:08:28 PM
Bitcoin today made a tremendous increase to 11.5k $ which was a surprise to everyone but just had a fall back to 9000$ some minutes ago.  This is where traders make their profit,  buy when it's dumping and sell when it's pumping.  Buying now will be great to sell in few days time when the value increases.

You are making a lot of assumptions - that the dump is market manipulation, it is temporary and the price will go up in a few days. Even if one of these fails, your strategy to make quick bucks goes for a toss. It is better to accumulate at regular intervals, to try and average out your costs.
714  Economy / Speculation / Re: $11k? Too fast or just hyped? on: November 29, 2017, 08:41:53 PM
Are you worried with the current pace of the rise in pricing of Bitcoin? Is it too fast? Are we expecting a dormant Q1 of next year? Any speculation? Share your thoughts below.

I think the sharp drop below $10k shows that we did go up too fast. They hype about crossing $10k, coverage in all major media outlets and the phenomenal gains of bitcoin this year all played a part in getting people to invest. Now I hope we go up again slowly and steadily.
715  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-11-29] How to Buy Bitcoin When Underage on: November 29, 2017, 08:32:16 PM
The simplest way is to ask your parents to give you your pocket money in the form of bitcoins. This might even end up educating them about bitcoins and how to buy them. Ideally, if you have a bank account websites should have no problems in you buying bitcoins. But each website has its own terms and conditions.
716  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin at 11890$ in India! I think the highest in the world! on: November 28, 2017, 08:22:15 PM
Bitcoin prices are much higher in India

This has been true for a long time. People in countries which impose capital controls tend to value Bitcoin a lot more. Countries will soon realize that capital controls do not work in a connected world.
When demonetization was imposed in India, demand exploded and exchanges had to resort to rationing.  Grin

717  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How big of a role does privacy play? on: November 28, 2017, 08:18:30 PM
Privacy is important for me, maybe even more because I’m from Europe which gives much biger accent to this issue than USA for example. I like the feeling that my privacy is kept and protected and that my data are avilable to everyone. Bitcoin is not anymore anonimous like it used to be and there are many tools available that can help to identify the users and transactions but still you are not completely exposed by using it.

Bitcoin was never anonymous. There are enough safe practices you can follow to ensure that your privacy is protected. Some newbies still don't follow the basics, like not reusing addresses and being careful about linking addresses. It will take some time for safe practices to get ingrained in all bitcoin users.
718  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will Bitcoin cause worldwide economic collapse in the future? on: November 26, 2017, 10:18:15 PM
Will Bitcoin with its decentralized system cause worldwide economic imbalance or collapse in future?

Businesses (and individuals) may start to accept and pay with Bitcoins to get away from the prying eyes of the government (and taxes). Governments currently use monetary policies to manage a healthy economy but they will not be able to manage Bitcoin and will be helpless if the economy goes to the dump. Governments may become starved for cash since it will harder for them to tally up who owns how many Bitcoins. Rogue regimes like NK may be able to peacefully conduct business under sanctions causing security issues.

Will Bitcoin eventually cause economic chaos in the future? Or will the freedom created by Bitcoin result in a greater economic growth and more tax funds to government?

We have a live one, this is NOT a drill anymore.

There are 2 legs to every transaction - the monetary part and the goods/service part. If North Korea is a sanctioned country, you may be able to get bitcoins over there without the prying eyes of the government, but you still have to get goods/services out of North Korea. Tough luck achieving that.
719  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 26, 2017, 09:56:23 PM
Burnley vs Arsenal, I think is going to be one those classic Arsenal matches, you know, when the team is feeling confident and with high morale after the easy win against Tottenham last weekend, so everyone thinks a victory today should be a walk in the park. But in reality, it will either be a late header equalizer from Giroud for a draw, or a mistake from the gunners defense in the last minute to make it 2-1 for Burnley (like the Watford match).

Banter aside, Arsenal  needs the win today, they could jump to the 4th position in the league table, above Tottenham and Liverpool, and 1 point behind Chelsea.  Burnley on the other hand, they've had a strong season start as they are currently 7th in the table, right behind Arsenal, but a win today would be HUGE, they could jump to a champions league spot which would be unexpected for pretty much everyone. It's going to be a fun match.

Arsenal got their win, but it was anything but convincing. A goal in injury time, just seconds before the final whistle spoilt what was a good match for Burnley. This kind of last minute victory seems to be a recurring theme between Arsenal and Burnley. Arsenal will be pretty happy with their victory and their movement to the fourth spot in the league table.
720  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cricket match prediction discussions on: November 26, 2017, 09:26:13 PM
Pujara played well and finally got out at 143 runs. India have now taken a 194 runs lead and 7 wickets still left. Today is the 3rd day and 1st session of play is going on. I think they will bat today whole day and ask SL to bat from tomorrow. So now mostly this game India should win it from here.

Indian finally declared first innings at 610 runs and still they had four wickets. This is a huge total for SL team to chase and they already lost the first wicket just for 21 runs in second innings. Sri Lanka is trail by 384 runs and still, they have nine wickets remaining in this innings. By looking at their current form I don't think SL team will score another 384 runs. It will be a very big win for the Indian team. Four Indian players scored 100+ runs in first innings.

I am of the opinion that the match is going to be complete by tomorrow as this task looks to be too huge for Sri Lanka, who were not looking good with the first innings as well.If someone from the team can fight and move to the fifth day it would be a great test match to look for.

Sri Lanka have already lost one wicket and will be under pressure looking at the huge first innings deficit. Although the pitch looks good for batting (India had 4 centurions - Vijay, Pujara, Kohli and Rohit), it is a whole new ball game when you are batting under pressure. I think the spinners will wrap this up by the fourth day, resulting in an innings victory for India.
