721  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [How to] Detect and recognize projects on: August 02, 2020, 11:47:57 PM
Your “how to” guide wasn't really that organized in a way of what kind of scam are you trying to explain since you have mixed both website scams and ICO scams. Your thread would be better if you organized your guide in a way of separating both your ICO scam project guide and your websit scam guide as it will be much easier to understand for the newbies. Your contwnt and explanation was great but the structure of how you explain it was messy.
722  Other / Off-topic / Re: Trump is preparing to ban TikTok on: August 02, 2020, 10:56:17 PM
Look if they have proven that the app of Tik Tok is spying on their users I think they have the right to ban it because first of all it is violating the privacy of its citizens and it is one of their first rights being a citizen, if the government doesn't act properly then they are basically not interested in protecting their rights. This is really not about the protection of their economy or the internet being regulated but the protection of their rights. And also I'm still wondering why these app stores like Apple and Google are still keeping Tik Tok available for download even if they have proven it spying to their users.
723  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: August 02, 2020, 09:18:28 PM
~

Everyone knows that Napoli doesn't stand a chance against Barcelona. Napoli's best bet was to win at home but they messed it up by letting Barcelona score at their home. so I don't see them make much of an impact and Camp Nou. Last time I checked, Barcelona is keen to win the Champions league trophy considering they lost to Liverpool last time and then, lost La liga title to Real Madrid this year.  With that, I think Barcelona has more than enough motive to get passed Napoli and possibly go further to win the title.

Upsets can happen in European football for example Ajax defeated Juventus last year and nobody think they could do it and they almost defeated Tottenham during the semi-finals. Same thing could be said with Napoli against Barcelona even if their last game resulted into a draw at their home it doesn't make their odds smaller facing Barca at home. During times like this where everything is on the line I think they will always try to do their best that's why we will keep seeing upsets in big matches like this one.
724  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Mixer on: August 02, 2020, 08:18:59 PM
[Guide] Decent mixing methods

Theymos created this guide for mixing and I think this is a good way to start if you want to mix your cryptocurrencies. Basically he mentioned Wasabi Wallet as a good way of mixing and the other way he mentioned is about converting your Bitcoin or other crypto to Monero (XMR) as this crypto is considered as a anonymity focused crypto. The latter of course might be an expensive way of mixing crypto as you will be converting back and forth the crypto you will have so I don't think this is a good idea if you are avoiding fees.
725  Other / Meta / Re: Defi section? on: August 01, 2020, 11:50:12 PM
it is Bitcointalk.org not Altcointalk.org. What is the difference between it and other projects like ICOs, IEOs, and tokens?
Defi has become popular because some expect the market to recover again, just as it happened in 2017, but it does not change the fact that the projects are a way to make their developers/first inesvtors rich. Why should we help them?

@theymos is the only one who can create a new section, and I don't think he will.

This is really not a bad idea in the first place since we have an Altcoin section here in ghe forum even if our forum is named after Bitcoin. Althought I have to agree with the others that having a DeFi section might be too much since technically they are still tokens for decentralized finance projects so maybe the best middle ground here is having some kind of childboard for DeFi projects within the Altcoin section. However this will only be possible if there is am actual demand for one since theymos won't create another childboard if there will be no readers.
726  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: How to advertise cryptocurrency exchange platform? on: August 01, 2020, 10:35:30 PM
Inevstors and traders are mostly active on twitter, if you don't have much fund for Ads placement on popular omega sites. Tweet, retweet and tagging of friends might do wonder and the cost is minimal as compared to placing Ads.

Paid advertisement is always better than the free advertisement. I don't think an exchange could be low on marketing funds. I think they should opt for paid advertisements which will give them far better results in quick time.

I guessed we already got the point here since the OP got their exchange to have an Estonian License with it I doubt that they are looking for free ways of promoting their website because if they will just rely on their friends and family to post tweets and retweets I doubt that it would have the same affect as promotions actually coming from ad pages. This kind of advertisement will only make them "scammy" looking as what people generally see on crypto related advertisements coming from people they know. Like what I said on my first post in this thread if they want to have the right audience its best for them to pick crypto ad networks to promote their banners for their site.
727  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter Hacker Arrested! on: July 31, 2020, 10:13:32 PM
I was reading the news and I was wondering why a 17 year old can be charged in a case like this even if he is a minor and article in Verge clarified that the law in Florida allows to be charged and possible get prison sentence even if you are a minor on financial fraud cases. I think this minor isn't really an ordinary person since he can do what he did but the wrong thing he done is assume that he can get away with this just for being a minor. Plus finding accomplices with him over the age of 18 just only make him look like he really planned the hack. But since this is just the early stages on the discoveries I doubt we have seen everything and there might really be a real mastermind here controlling these kids.
728  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How much BTC would you need to buy to increase the price by 1 percent? on: July 29, 2020, 03:07:54 PM
I like your theory here but it doesn't necessarily mean you need over 90 million dollars to pump Bitcoin by 1% because technically you took your calculations in the wrong way and that is combining the top crypto exchanges where you don't necessarily need to do so because Bitcoin can be pump in just 1 exchange where you can effectively used lesser money to pump Bitcoin by 1%. Maybe create a new kind of article where you show the prices on how much people need to pump Bitcoin on each exchange rather than combining all of them.
729  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-07-28] LBC adds 2 Elliptic surveillance tools to "manage risk" on: July 29, 2020, 02:14:17 PM
they shat on us users a lot over the years, so we're slowly migrating but for sheer convenience and options for travellers, you can't find better than this.

It's going to be interesting to observe whether they hang on to enough users and add enough new ones. They have a whole lot of track record and people may resolve to keep with the familiar. It's the users themselves of course who make it and there'll be traders on there with 7-8 years of feedback. That's going to be compelling for buyers even if there is KYC.

I last used them in 2014. No plans to again.

Also I don't think P2P exchanges are at fault here. LocalBitcoin's wasn't this strict when it comes to their compliance with the government but then the authorities came knocking that's why we have seen them freeze accounts for KYC compliance. So we don't need to be surprised in implementing Elliptic's service maybe this is just their way of showing to the authorities that they intend their service to be free from illicit activities as long as possible on their side.
730  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin & altcoins? on: July 29, 2020, 01:27:02 PM
I doubt that this is the case if we look at in any dominance chart Bitcoin impressively has sustained it's market dominance at above 60% of the total market cap showing that BTC is still holding the biggest share in the crypto market. It would be harder for other cryptocurrencies to pump if the biggest share is on the top cryptocurrencies, so maybe the ones who you are seeing going up are just price pumps without volume  which happens all the time to less popular cryptocurrencies, in other words this isn't really an "alt season" if that's what you are asking.
731  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tip]: Anti-Phishing Apps or extensions on: July 29, 2020, 12:06:25 PM
I prefer not to trust all kinds of extensions since recently a lot of extensions are being created for fraudulent purposes. While doing its job of protecting against phishing, at the same time, the same extension can collect information about the user, engage in surveillance, hidden mining, steal passwords, and everything else. The extensions themselves are not created by browser developers, but by people who are looking for a way to make money.

I'm aware that Google's app store whether it is in the Playstore or Chrome Webstore is a gold mine when it comes to fake and scammy apps that are mostly malicious in nature but they can easily be avoided by looking for their reviews, date uploaded, uploader name or basically everything in their "about" section which will make you see that the app you are downloading is the real version. These anti-phising extension is really helpful and this can be treated as a first layer of defense rather than just always relying on your eyes being observant as always.
732  Economy / Economics / Re: Cash Is Trash on: July 29, 2020, 11:21:08 AM
I think majority of the people here are taking his statement out of context. When he said "cash is trash" this was his way of telling people that if they had extra money lying around they must put it into diversifying their investment portfolio. He mentioned about it being a medium of exchange so I don't think he is saying that cash is actually useless but is something not worth it to hold if you have extra lying around. Just by holding cash you are technically devaluing it as the inflation rate decreases its purchasing power while if your money is on stocks it has even a chance for you to be richer than what you are before.
733  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: July 29, 2020, 10:34:56 AM
I haven't seen any club  interested with Bale. From transfermarkt bale worth 32 million euros. For Bale I think this is not expensive.
I think it is only about time that there will be many clubs interested in Bale. Actually, his performance is quite good, even he becomes the player who determines the important win in the big game previously. Unfortunately, he cannot play regularly and most time sitting on the bench because of injury or problem with the coach. Well, it is true that 32 million euros isn't expensive. There are many clubs that have the ability to buy Bale with that price. Man United, PSG, Chelsea, or even Inter Milan are possible to buy Bale in the upcoming transfer season. Just stay tuned/wait for the transfer rumors, bro.   Wink

It's not about the price for Bale, it's his insane salary he gets every year at Real. If he had been willing to accept a lower salary, he would have found a new club long ago and would play regularly again. But you can't really blame him for not wanting to give up on his huge salary at Real.

Aside from his insane salary I think a few clubs are interested an him because at his position they can get young wonderkids at a cheaper price both in terms of transfer fee and salary. His spot is actually overloaded with talent and at 31 years old almost ready to finish his prime I don't think a lot of people will be actually trying to get him not unless he will be asking for a lower salary and Real willing to let him go near half his value.
734  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to reduce MegaSpam threads . on: July 29, 2020, 10:08:44 AM
I don't know if I suggested this before or not but I think the best way to avoid spam threads is having some kind of automation when it comes to locking a thread. Like when the first 2 or 3 pages the OP of the thread hasn't replied to his own topic then the thread will automatically be locked.
The idea is not bad. But who will do this? Also even though OP is not replying anymore on his own topic, what if there are people engaging on the discussion/interested on the idea he started would that be still considered as spam?

That's one point I have missed out and you are right if people are engaged more than the OP on his own topic I think they should continue to discuss it but in this way where even the OP cannot moderate his own thread and his topic is somehow generic then there is a high chance it can be a spam thread with only members parroting the same responses. If we can somehow have a voting system where 3 or 4 people have answered the same response in a page or two then it is eligible to be locked to avoid it being a spam thread.
735  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion to reduce MegaSpam threads . on: July 28, 2020, 08:47:41 PM
I don't know if I suggested this before or not but I think the best way to avoid spam threads is having some kind of automation when it comes to locking a thread. Like when the first 2 or 3 pages the OP of the thread hasn't replied to his own topic then the thread will automatically be locked. This just means that the OP itself isn't interested in his own topic and he just posted it for no educational reason. This way we can easily avoid having megathreads with the same generic answers from people.
736  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Difference Stock Trading and BTC trading on: July 28, 2020, 03:43:48 PM
I think the biggest difference between the two is with stock trading you can overlap both technical and fundamental analysis when trading where in crypto trading only TA is present. What I mean about an overlap is you can used both analysis to make your price prediction more accurate as fundamental analysis is something good to be used if you are betting on a financially good performing stock. Crypto on the other hand only has TA and also news that can trigger FOMO and FUD which makes it harder for you to rely only on its chart.
737  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2020-07-15] Elon Musk and Bill Gates 'hacked' in apparent Bitcoin scam on: July 28, 2020, 02:51:44 PM
Hackers have already given interviews

Are you talking about this one? Because it looks like you are right, they have given their interviews to the times which I think is a dumb move after committing a successful fraud, they are even proud of what they have done and they are not afraid to tell it to someone else. The Times said that these hackers are confirmed to be involved with what happened to Twitter and they know their identity so I think it is just a matter of time before they catch all of them.
738  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: PayPal to Offer Crypto Trading on: July 28, 2020, 01:49:38 PM
If there partnership with Paxos is official I think that Paypal has a good chance that they will be offering crypto trading because there is really no other reason why Paypal will partner up with a crypto related firm without them being at least interested in a crypto related business. I know that Paypal before is against any kind of crypto industry related business as they are also against crypto related transactions being used in their service but with them partnering up with crypto related business I think this is a good sign to say that Paypal have changed their minds with crypto.
739  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin touch $15K till end of 2020? on: July 28, 2020, 01:06:28 PM
I think the general answer for price predictions particularly the long term ones is that we don't know since there is a lot of things we need to factor in that we haven't think about yet making a price prediction now would be highly inaccurate. One of the best example there is Bitcoin's halving where a lot of people predicted that it will trigger a FOMO because it affects the "supply" and for other various reasons but even after months from the halving date we still have not see Bitcoin go up in value. Maybe the best way to accurate predict Bitcoin's price movement is just by looking at their charts in a short term view not ranging more than a month of what you are trying to predict.

740  Economy / Economics / Re: This is a total nightmare on: July 28, 2020, 12:44:09 PM
So I'm really curious why are you taking a hit when I don't see most of the companies in the tech industry being affected that much. Is it in your customer or what kind of business do you have?

Another aspect of the virus yet to fully come to light will be increased outsourcing to cheaper countries. Tech stuff is super vulnerable to this and many companies have realised there's little need for a physical location or physical meetings.

Those who didn't consider it before certainly will now and there's a whole world out there willing to work for less.

Yes, and there's a whole world of consultants out there just waiting to fix mismanaged outsourcing by inexperienced project managers Grin

Even if they are that vulnerable like what you have said the tech industry is not as vulnerable to other industries where their business involves around products being sold physically or properties being leased as right now these types of businesses are the ones who goes first in this scenario like Airplane companies shutting down their operations and Hotels closing down some of their branches for goods. Tech industry on the other hand doesn't have these kinds of vulnerabilities so I think it's really better if the OP tries to answer this question directly as he is the one experiencing it in his company.
