901  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 02:14:13 PM
Merits are stated publicly, though. Tipping with Lightning is private and therefore can't be used alternatively as merits, unless we introduce third parties. I don't care much from the rest to know that I've donated; as long as the receiver knows it:

I don't mean the tip amounts should be displayed publicly (it wouldn't even be possible without some centralized tracking). Just that the button/link/whatever is next to +Merit. If you think the post is good enough for merit, it's likely good for tipping, is what I'm getting at.
902  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 01:38:18 PM
I'd expect a different, more valid response like "We should be realistic, very few posts are worth to tip".  Tongue

I think the hypothetical tipping option could be added to the "Merit a post" page, or the "+Merit" could be changed to "Merit or tip" (in case someone has no merits to send but has sats), and we do find meritable posts so there should be at least that many "tippable" too Smiley

How about a small link/icon in the existing extension, to a third party website that processes the tipping?

Sure, that'd be fine I think, as long as the third party doesn't require some excessive invasion of privacy or something like that.

It's unsolicited:

Yeah I know but I would have thought that "someone wants to give you money with no strings attached" could be an exception (I mean who doesn't want money?). Perhaps not though.
903  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 06, 2022, 12:56:35 PM
The second quote is also relevant to your second point, where they say they primarily want to cater to financial institutions.

That's what I was referring to as "baseless speculation". Is there any plausible explanation why "financial institutions" would want to mix their coins at all? Even with the best chain analysis there is a massive reputational risk for them to get tangled up with some "unclean" coins or just generally getting blamed for helping launder bitcoins, and I don't think coordinator fees (assuming the talk about providing liquidity means they'd get a share of those fees) are sufficiently lucrative to outweigh that.
904  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 12:48:15 PM
Don't expect the users to get used to it with this behavior, though. If we don't appeal change, it won't magically happen gradually. Everyone does have a few sats to spare for a dual-funded channel.

Sure, a separate userscript might be better.

You may have misunderstood me. I'm not against tipping or Lightning, it's just that it could be counterproductive if someone needs to install BPIP extension (that does many things they perhaps don't need) just to be able to tip. On the other hand, if a separate user script is created - we could consider integrating it into the extension. The extension itself has very few users so I think it would be very limiting to the idea of tipping to have the functionality only in the extension.

We should be realistic about usage though. Most users on this forum probably have some sort of Bitcoin address. A small fraction use Lightning, an even smaller fraction accepts (or would like to send) tips, and an even smaller fraction would install a userscript/extension to do so. It should be integrated into the forum software if you want to have any kind of impact on Lightning adoption... but you know what the answer to that is... "new forum software" Grin.
905  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Wasabi blacklisting update - open letter / 24 questions discussion thread on: July 06, 2022, 11:56:52 AM
Not at all. As I said above, Wasabi know fine well what they are doing is shitty, and they also know fine well that continuing to try to justify their shitty actions is also shitty. But it makes them money, so (in their words) we "should be grateful" and stop "whining". Roll Eyes

How exactly do they make money? Coordinator fees? How is paying for some shitty service helping them with that?

I don't understand the whole "institutional investors" thing. The idea that Microstrategy would mix coins via Wasabi, or that Wall Street would invest into a wallet that kinda sorta helps with privacy but not really - sounds utterly absurd. It seems they're getting swindled in more than one way, or it's all just a steaming pile of baseless speculation.
906  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/Chrome on: July 06, 2022, 11:37:17 AM
I like the idea of tipping but it's tangential to the purpose of this extension so I think it would make more sense as a separate extension/userscript/etc.

I don't think Lightning would work well for this, at least not as a way to tip anyone except a handful of users that actually have the ability to receive Lightning payments. Hopefully I'm wrong about it. I wonder if it would be against forum rules to automatically send a PM if the recipient is not registered/declared/etc (whatever that entails) as being able to receive payments ("hey someone wants to send you money").
907  Economy / Reputation / Re: Reputation: nullius is a cunt ✔ on: July 05, 2022, 08:38:18 PM
I would not ordinarily lower myself to engage in a public dirt-fight with such degenerate anthropoid scum as suchmoon and her playground pals, sirazimuth, DireWolfM14, and nutildah.

Which translated from gibberese means a new set of red trust ratings from nullius. Some of us were lucky to get two. Even nutildah got one, despite being absent for a long time and (AFAIK) not joining the ridicule of nullius' latest sockpuppet.

908  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Dabs #54791 is a habituated PM-beggar, doing public “charity” and escrow. on: July 05, 2022, 05:54:47 PM
goldkingcoiner:  Tagged (again) for defamation, viz., factually untrue and reputationally damaging statements made with self-evident actual malice.

"I am guessing", "maybe", "I wonder", etc - opinions, not statements of fact. I too think you're dishonest, and a coward, and generally a pathetic trollpuppet. That's not defamation, just like saying "Alice needs money" is not begging. Read a dictionary.
909  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Dabs #54791 is a habituated PM-beggar, doing public “charity” and escrow. on: July 05, 2022, 01:23:19 PM
It is a dirty secret of this forum, known to all longtime members, that nobody will dare to raise credible, well-evidenced accusations against a “high-trust” member—especially not one with certain types of friends here.  Wherefore the forum tradition of using alt accounts to raise such accusations.  Although I have the courage to stand up with my “main account”, I anyway cannot use a one-off throwaway here:  I need to attest and release PMs from this account.

You "have the courage" yet you still sockpuppet and have no courage to admit it. Pathetic.

The usual pattern:  As a DT member, in 2020, I raised an accusation against a high-profile member based on well-known facts.  Thereupon, suchmoon immediately found a convenient pretext to get me kicked out of DT.

You got kicked out because you misused the trust system. I can start a campaign to include you into DT and you would still be excluded. You grossly overestimate my influence here.

I raise an accusation against a high-profile member here, with clear evidence that suchmoon merrily ignores as she transparently tries to manufacture a scam accusation against me out of the whole cloth. Roll Eyes

I'm not manufacturing anything. I think your "bet" offer was fraudulent not unlike e.g. self-escrowing. There was no reason to do it with a sockpuppet account if you knew that you would need your other account to provide "proof", other than to give it some illusion of being more trustworthy than it was. The key here is that you were pretending that death_wish is a different person.

Anyone who reads that post can see that she was falsely accusing me, specifically me, of making up false accusations against Dabs.

You made up false accusations about goldkingcoiner.

Quote
Bob posted something along the lines of "Alice needs money"

You accused Bob of begging. Merely posting that someone else needs money isn't really begging. Children in Ukraine need money, donate to them. That's not begging. Even if you believe that those children are faking their hardship, that's still not begging. Even if you believe that Bob was somehow swindled by Alice, that's still not begging.

The personal attack on me is entirely off-topic here.

You posted that shit in your OP so deal with it.

having emotional attachments to one’s friends is “irrational”

For someone so wordy, you have a surprisingly severe case of reading disability. "Your irrational emotional attachment". Not everyone's emotional attachment to any friend.

I guess that explains how you build these absurd accusations out of nothing.
910  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Dabs #54791 is a habituated PM-beggar, doing public “charity” and escrow. on: July 05, 2022, 03:39:00 AM
suchmoon, when will you retract and apologize for your own false, malicious, and defamatory claim on 2022-06-18 that this was a matter of “nonsensical accusations”, i.e. a lie?

There is nothing to retract. Your accusation (that goldkingcoiner was "begging") is nonsensical. The subsequent "bet" even more so.

However, this is not a topic about goldkingcoiner.

Then remove the nonsensical accusation from the OP:

More recently, Dabs had someone publicly begging on his behalf in the Wall Observer:
[...]

You could donate it to Dabs if you don't want it. As he told me, he is in an uncomfortable financial situation and could use any and all help. Maybe WO should help him out?

One of the classic five elements of “fraud” is materiality.  death_wish’s identity is immaterial, and it is entirely irrelevant to this thread.

Same person offering a bet with one account, and providing "proof" for resolving that bet with another account - that's very "material" and very fraudulent. Now you can pile six feet of pompous bullshit on top of this and try to pretend that this wasn't your intent, but that just makes you a liar and doesn't make your fantasy real.
911  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? on: July 04, 2022, 10:13:47 PM
You clearly just want to get rid of this thread.  Bury it.  Slide it away.

My suggestion is to create a better replacement thread and then ask moderators to unpin this one. Calling it "burying" is disingenuous to say the least.

You don’t know how I handle technical issues, since you are practically nonexistent in the technical forum.

This is a newbie board.

[ ~ ego trip paragraphs skipped ~ ]

My point exactly. Instead of telling us how well you'd do it, you could have been halfway through creating a new thread and actually showing us how you'd do it.

Unfortunately, I think you may find a few supporters amongst those who may simply be jealous of Lauda’s thread.

It's a thread. About wallets. Your irrational emotional attachment to a long-gone forum member makes no sense here.
912  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Dabs #54791 is a habituated PM-beggar, doing public “charity” and escrow. on: July 04, 2022, 09:46:48 PM
suchmoon’s absurd accusation that I somehow tried to “extort” goldkingcoiner;

You attacked goldkingcoiner for several pages in WO demanding to take your "bet", with conditions specifically tailored to what you posted here in this thread. I'd call it simply trolling, if not for the fact that you used one sockpuppet account for the "bet" and another for the "proof". If you don't like the word "extortion", let's call it simply fraud, as that's what a shill/sockpuppet bet is.
913  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Dabs #54791 is a habituated PM-beggar, doing public “charity” and escrow. on: July 04, 2022, 02:32:14 PM
Instead of accusing the accuser and trying to shoot the messenger, I advise that you should apologize to death_wish for how you essentially called him a liar.

I did not call him a liar. I asked him to provide evidence for his claim, since he made a heavy claim which was suited to damaging Dabs's clean reputation. Instead of coming forth with the evidence, as I requested of him, Death_wish attempted to goad me (multiple times) into taking an unfair, premeditated Bitcoin bet with him over the matter. When I refused, he continued to troll me into taking the bet. Basically trying to scam me out of my coins.

Most people dislike his character as he is an annoying troll on the WO. And lets be honest, he was venting on everyone and anyone because he lost most of his Bitcoin with margin trading. Which is why I overreacted. I may have been mistaken about Dabs but why you seem to be vouching for death_wish, I have no idea.

death_wish is nullius

Even if you ignore the uniquely pompous writing style, it's quite obvious by now that when he couldn't extort bitcoins out of you on WO (as death_wish) he's gonna trollpuppet you now (as nullius).
914  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? on: July 04, 2022, 02:24:29 PM
Noise and objections are being raised here by someone with exactly zero prior contributions in the first 11 pages of this thread (unless Lauda deleted her prior posts*)—who practically spat at Lauda’s departure, and at those who was grieving—who has been obsessively harassing and trolling me.

suchmoon’s only apparent purpose in this thread is to follow me around, and to attempt to stop me from engaging in positive activity with the forum community.  I generally ignore her, so she needs to try to find a way to get a rise out of me.  Her grand entrance here, her very first contribution, was to suggest that Lauda’s thread be unpinned (thus burying the cat’s legacy here), then immediately to insult me in a childish way.

The thread is about wallets, not about someone's legacy. Having outdated information at the top of a beginners board is worse than having no pinned thread at all, but luckily those are not the only options. Someone (even you) can create a new thread and then petition to have it pinned on the grounds of it being a better version of the existing thread.

Based on what I know about your writing style, your version would be ludicrously complicated, boastful, and too verbose for newbies, but feel free to surprise me.

When people who have some positive, constructive interest in this thread are attempting to find a solution to the problem of maintaining it, I suggest that that discussion should not be derailed.

Then stop derailing it with your cringy Lauda worship.

Anglosaxons

This word - even more so than "8 years" etc - is the badge of a devoted consumer of Kremlin propaganda.

It's hard to even find an analogy to explain its absurdity... probably like saying that the Golden Horde is now invading Ukraine.
916  Economy / Reputation / Re: Reputation: nullius is a cunt ✔ on: July 04, 2022, 04:33:02 AM
Curious, does the nullster promise his contributors a sermon every Sunday?

I think the promise of massive preaching walls of text is implied. He couldn't even beg ask for tips/donations without making a convoluted mess out of it.
917  Economy / Reputation / Re: Reputation: nullius is a cunt ✔ on: July 04, 2022, 03:17:52 AM
Our hero is back with his main account and on top of the usual cringe (praising Lauda etc) he now started begging:

Patronage: Tip nullius for his contributions.

Also tried to tag-team WO with his sockpuppet account but then deleted the post: https://loyce.club/archive/posts/6049/60497274.html

Edit: as nullius helpfully pointed out with a verbose red trust rating LOL, the post is still there. At the time the link was opening the wrong page therefore it looked like the post was gone. Anyway, I thought he realized that talking to the same person with two different accounts pretending to be two different people is sketchy AF and deleted it, but apparently he doesn't think so.
918  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? on: July 04, 2022, 03:01:17 AM
I am sure that having a track record is helpful in terms of perhaps maintaining a thread.. but what is the idea of pinning?

A new thread might refer to the old thread (and linking it) and then perhaps summarizing aspects of the old thread (including perhaps updating some information).  What would the pinning do?  close the old thread and then link to the new one?

Not sure I understand the question so pardon me if this sounds patronizing... pinning is what makes the thread appear at the top of the board. That's basically the only reason to have this discussion at all, otherwise anyone can just create a thread and have at it, but they would not have the visibility that this thread has.

As for how the content is transferred, there are obviously options - linking, summarizing, etc. I think quoting the non-obsolete parts would work best - that way authorship is preserved and the contents is still in one place without having to click too many links. Rewritten parts can have reference links to the old stuff if needed.

Mucking around with ownership doesn't make much sense IMO, nor does keeping outdated info at the top of the board.
919  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [General] Bitcoin Wallets - Which, what, why? on: July 03, 2022, 06:34:50 PM
How do you do  accomplish your suggested changes with Op owner (Lauda) gone?  Do you petition theymos to assign this thread a new owner (which is surely possible, but would theymos do it?)?  Or maybe the thread needs to be locked and a new thread created?

Someone - BlackHatCoiner for example - creates a new thread, then theymos (or any other global mod AFAIK) can unpin the old one and pin the new one. That way mods can see that the replacement is better than the old thread, as opposed to just taking someone's word for it.

Like this clown here LOL

stuck in bomb shelters for 8 years

Putin killed more Donbas residents in the first couple of months of this war than have been killed in the prior 8 years of "shelling" (many civilians deaths were actually caused by Russian landmines). No one was stuck in any bomb shelters, in fact some Donetsk residents are now finding that their bomb shelters are inaccessible but the mayor is calling them "Ukrainian agents" for daring to complain. Wonderful life in the liberated Donetsk Ponzi Republic.
