901  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this how it start? (No or yes?) on: November 01, 2023, 05:07:43 AM
This is not unusual so I don't think you are becoming addicted. Funding your account again can also means you're not satisfied yet with your gambling activity or just bored and don't have anything to do thus you opted to play again. It happened to me many times as well but it doesn't mean i'm addicted. Often reason is, I still want to play and the money I used before is not enough for me to be entertained.

Yes, it doesn't sound like what the OP describes can be considered the beginning of an addiction. He simply recharged the account once and also because he hadn't had any luck at all. If you bet $10 like when you play slots and you end up losing them but you have been entertained for a while because you win small prizes and you keep playing, when you run out of money you have been entertained for a while, but if you lose them without winning anything it is easy to get the bug and want to play more.

I think it's good for him to ask himself these questions and be aware of them to avoid falling into addiction, but in this case I don't think he should worry too much.
902  Economy / Economics / Re: Biting more than i can chew. How can i do better? on: November 01, 2023, 04:54:35 AM
make some long term plans.

Dca some cash every payday. hodl it
Dca some Btc every payday. hodl it

Come back to this thread and report how well you hodled the DCA in cash and in BTC.

If you can dca some cash and some btc every payday for a year in a row and hodl it you will be on your way.

I kind of agree with this but I only see sense in accumulating cash until:

1) you complete an emergency fund of a maximum of 6 months of expenses.
2) you complete sinkings fund of foreseeable expenses.

Beyond that, I see no sense in accumulating cash, the rest should be accumulated in financial assets, mainly bitcoin but it is not bad to have an index fund or any other financial asset of your choice to diversify.
903  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: IRS proposes unprecedented data-collection on crypto users on: November 01, 2023, 04:45:13 AM

They might not come knocking at your door but the debt will incur interest and eventually they will either take it out of a tax refund you are due or if it gets big enough, they'll file a lawsuit against you and garnish your wages or sieze your bank account.  Shocked

I don't have any of those things.

none of them? then you're about as judgement proof as they come. congrats! Grin

I kept thinking about that too, and I don't know if it's a joke or something. No tax refund, no wages and no bank account? If he lived in Somalia it would make more sense to me but it sounds to me like he lives in the USA. If true, he must be living Satoshi's P2P dream at its best.
904  Economy / Reputation / Re: Should Ratimov be in DT1? on: October 31, 2023, 09:43:09 AM
You are currently DT2 and adding ~Ratimov will not change much in his DT1 status. Given that your trust list is empty, you cannot be DT1, so even in the next DT selection, your vote will have no influence.
However, many have added you to their trust list, you are among the first few on the forum in terms of strength, so I believe that whatever you decide will have an impact, perhaps at least on someone else's decisions.

I've distrusted him as well. I don't know how much of an impact it will have but it just seemed the right thing to do.
905  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Giveaway Scam On the Rise on: October 31, 2023, 05:24:31 AM
With the rise in the usage of AI, it's definitely not a surprise to see it being used as a tool to scam people and make life easier for scammers. It's important to know that if you have something to be gotten for free, it should be within reason or else it's a scam. It is harder to prove now but it's still at the user's discretion.

If it's too good to be true, it is. That can be a guideline for everyone. It's important to let others know that rule.

I think so, the problem with these scams is that they are based on the law of large numbers: they only need a small percentage of unwary people to take the bait for it to be profitable. And there are always those who are clueless, greedy, etc., and fall for the scam. Logically, scammers are now using AI leverage, taking advantage of the technological tools at their disposal to achieve greater success, so you need to be more aware than ever.
906  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin about to close at the highest price in 78 weeks! Looking strong!💪 on: October 31, 2023, 05:13:32 AM
Things look definitely good now. The most logical thing would be a rise in the next months, always with some ups and downs and without reaching ATH before halving, although you can never be 100% sure of what can happen.

We are basically back to the days before all those companies went belly up. I think it started with 3AC or Luna, don’t remember but it’s this area that set off those dominos.

The good thing now is that those crappy companies and all the bad leverage has already been wiped off, and we face a possible healthy sustained rise.
907  Economy / Economics / Re: Would You want to See a Corralón Type Economic Measure in Your Country? on: October 31, 2023, 04:54:45 AM
Sure, a desperate measure taken by a country that became the first in GDP more than 100 years ago and whose disastrous Peronist (communist-like) policies have led to extreme poverty, massive emigration and very high inflation for decades has to be the example to be followed by the rest of the countries of the world. Grin

Perhaps one of the most idiotic ideas to "save the economy" is to take away people's PERSONAL savings in the currency that stabilized the economy....

Yes, together with the idea that if money is needed, the right thing to do is to print more, much more.

Just look at the economic situation of Argentina right now and you have your answer, it has not got better - in fact has arguably got worse - since this policy was enacted.

Of course not. A government that steals so blatantly the only thing it achieves is to drive capital and talent out of the country, sinking it deeper into misery. It was precisely after this that a massive exodus of Argentines took place.
908  Economy / Economics / Re: Biting more than i can chew. How can i do better? on: October 31, 2023, 04:47:15 AM
You've already taken the first step, getting interested in personal finance. There is a system that is very simple and works very well which is the 7 baby steps by Dave Ramsey, which I recommend you to follow.

It is basically about controlling expenses and income, building an emergency fund for unforeseen events, getting rid of consumer debts, and saving and investing. If you have an unstable income you have to calculate an average and spend based on that. If you have had a good emergency fund of 6 months of expenses, you would have experienced what you say has happened to you in a very different way.

Until now you had a tendency to spend everything you earned but that can change and this thread is proof of that. It's not a thing you're going to change overnight but you'll get there.
909  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Kraken to turn over select customer data to IRS after July court loss on: October 31, 2023, 04:39:10 AM
Quote from: DaveF
Sort of, no matter what if you bought something for $600 and sold it for $18000 you may not have had to pay taxes but you were still supposed to report the income.
Now let's be honest nobody really does that unless you are really making a living at trading.
why would you have to report the income if they didn't expect you to pay taxes on it? you have to pay taxes too i would imagine. also, the way the IRS figures it is, if these people would lie about Kraken then they probably have other lies they're living in the crypto world, good targets for a full audit guaranteed those people will be audited out the rear end...

DaveF is right, I have explained this before. It doesn't matter that there is no specific regulation that charges taxes for selling stones that you find in the mountains or dog shit. If you buy a rock or dog shit from me for $1 and sell it for $1K, the IRS is going to want to tax the $999 profit.
910  Economy / Services / Re: Im trader been trading long time Im looking for partners on: October 30, 2023, 04:57:56 AM
This is a fucking joke.

The OP wants to fish 1000 suckers dumb enough to invest in him when he explains nothing that any serious proposal would explain, for example:

It's always the broke ones and scammers looking for partners in forums that claim to be so good at trading. Can you show us your past trading track record?

Not only that, but with his experience in the markets, he has not even told us about the annual return he is able to achieve.

Most likely scenario he is a broke kid writing from his mom's basement who has done some demo trading and it worked out well but when he gambled away mom's weekly allowance money he lost it, and now he's come up with a great idea to keep playing.
911  Economy / Speculation / Re: Recent market manipulation shows the enormous potential to reach the moon! on: October 30, 2023, 04:49:46 AM
I feel like there's really a huge amount of mostly institutional fiat that is about to be converted into Bitcoin with the right reason and timing. I can sense this with what's happening with Bitcoin lately.
...

I can only imagine what the demand can do when it's finally the thing that everybody has been anticipating. $100,000 is easy sooner rather than later.

Well, I wouldn't be so quick to jump the gun, as we were making similar predictions this cycle, where not a single prediction called for a high below $100K, and look how it turned out, at $69K. In approving spot ETFs I would obviously expect a price rise but also volatility, after the initial rise I would also expect ups and downs due to big whales placing massive buy or sell orders to fleece retail investors at opportune moments.
912  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What according to you should be the age to retire from gambling ? on: October 30, 2023, 04:41:56 AM
I agree with the others, there is not. Doyle Brunson was a poker player who played until almost his death at the age of 90 this year. So the only limit is that your mental faculties are still functioning well. And in the case of casino games that you can still afford it, because you are losing money in the long run unlike Brunson, who continued to make money in the last years of his life.
913  Economy / Economics / Re: Steam drops support for 2 fiat currencies over their volatlity on: October 30, 2023, 04:32:31 AM
Well, it is not surprising because of the disastrous monetary policy in Argentina and Turkey that has led to very high inflation rates. As far as it is possible, the dollar is a less bad option and this has happened in several other countries, which ended up dollarized, which is what candidate Milei wants to do in Argentina.
914  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: IRS proposes unprecedented data-collection on crypto users on: October 30, 2023, 04:24:04 AM
wait a minute so, a usa citizen can buy bitcoin online from switzerland and the irs can't know anything about that?

Well, that's relative. There are a couple of sites that don't require KYC under 1000 CHF but if you're going to buy online it's going to be by card or bank transfer, so you leave a trail for the IRS. Your best bet would be to use a bridge account in a third country where the IRS does not have direct access and make purchases by bank transfer or card from there.
915  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Anti-Gambling Tools on: October 29, 2023, 05:06:47 AM
The problem with responsible gambling features is that you always find another casino where you can gamble. Many casinos do not have them, and in the end, the only thing you are left with is the self control to stop gambling and better if you seek professional help, as suggested by yahoo62278.

It is like the alcoholic who is rehabilitated. The solution is not to put a barrier in every bar or in every supermarket so that he can not enter and buy alcohol, the solution is within oneself, to quit for good and in the vast majority of cases, if not all, with professional help.
916  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Turkey is eyeing finalization of taxing cryptocurrencies by next year on: October 29, 2023, 04:58:05 AM
Turkey is going in the wrong direction. With one of the highest inflation rates in the world, they first banned payments with cryptocurrencies, and, as it usually happens, as people skipped the ban they have realized that it is better to regulate them and try to tax them. The problem is that if you put high taxes you incentivize people not to declare. If instead of 30% they put a 5% tax almost everyone would declare because for how cheap it is it is not worth getting into a potential problem with the tax authorities, but with how disastrous Turkey's monetary policy is going I am not surprised.
917  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Mining In Iran on: October 29, 2023, 04:52:38 AM
Is there anyone knowledgeable about this topic?

I think pooya87 lives either in Iran or near, somewhere in that part of the world. But I think he doesn't have notifications turned on. If you are interested in the topic and you don't get replies in the thread maybe you can send him a PM to read the thread and he can give a reply.
918  Other / Meta / Re: Investigation and action required. Unusual forum moderation. on: October 29, 2023, 04:47:49 AM
A very lengthy but simple and effective strategy to wipe out any unwanted record. Anyone can delete their past posts which is not wrong but the way the whole things were done, it was not usual.  It definitely is questionable. So questions were asked, we had our speculations too.

I don't know to what extent the moderators of the local Russian board may be in cahoots with him, as you and Gazeta suggest, what is clear is that Ratimov's behavior is quite suspicious and so far has resulted in a few DT1 distrusting him. Those are many, too many deleted threads, and Mr. Switzerland putting him on ignore for it, opening the quoted thread, gives a lot to think about.
919  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have we seen the lowest low of this bear market? on: October 29, 2023, 04:30:32 AM
Most likely yes, and although some people like to speculate on extraordinary events affecting the price, I prefer to go on the basis of what is most likely. At the point of the cycle we are at and the recent price trend the most normal thing is that we do not return to sub $20K levels, but rather the opposite. Could some event as happened in its day with COVID-19 cause such a fall? Yes, but I do not rely on what I cannot predict. And in the case of wars, there is no direct relationship that indicates that they necessarily affect the market up or down.
920  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2023 end game sentiment check on: October 28, 2023, 04:20:23 AM
If you are a Bitcoin investor, you will choose Don't know or care because your target is long term. You are better off accumulating more Bitcoins than following its price movements.

Yes, I am of that opinion, but guessing games in the speculation section entertain us. I for one am torn between thinking it will go up a little more in price to between $40K and $50K at the end of the year and thinking it will stay as it is or even go down a little, as at least traditionally in the stock market the end of the year is usually low volume and making sales to offset losses for tax purposes. So I did not vote but that is what I think.
