921  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: exchange fees that no one talks about on: January 24, 2019, 01:45:52 PM
This is the reason why I try to do most of my trading on decentralized exchanges, they typically have either low or no withdrawal fees.
I understand that this might not be a good solution for day traders, since the volume on most DEX's is extremely low compared to that of centralized exchanges.

Most exchanges had increased their withdraw fees back when the mempool was completely full, before Segwit use was widespread, in order to cover the increased fees on the Bitcoin network. They simply didn't change their fees back when that problem was mostly gone.
922  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Spam site on: January 24, 2019, 01:30:18 PM
I don't get how people can visit that website and even think it's legit.
Just their entire business-model of paying people to click on advertisements is very flawed at first glance.

Then add the ridiculous referral rewards to that and anyone can immediately tell it's either a scam or very unsustainable.

In the end, even if they pay out, it's just a slightly more elaborate form of a ponzi scheme.
Especially if they're selling referrals to their members, there used to be a bunch of PTC sites that used a model like that.
923  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: About Dice Games and Yolodice . Best strategy?? on: January 24, 2019, 12:38:54 PM
when i play dice games i only used martingale method where you increase your bets times two after a loss . that is to ensure that recover your losses while you earn a profit at the same time  but if ever you won , you dont need to double your bets .

the method works good for awhile but eventually the system detects you  .  thats the time that you must stop and try again next time or try it again on other gambling sites with dice games and hi/lo games  mechanics  .

What are you on about? Casinos love people that use Martingale, there's no system to detect it and make you lose.
Variance will do that automatically. Once you encounter a long losing streak, you're going to go bust eventually.

924  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Request : Where are all the Lightning Network Faucets? on: January 24, 2019, 01:34:24 AM

Implement to educate, something like how 99bitcoins did it. Faucets for kids are an awesome idea too, imo.

I remember that 99bitcoins faucet, it was pretty great while it lasted and I remember sending some friends over there who wanted to learn more about Bitcoin.
Nowadays, I just send them to Moonbitcoin, they can usually earn a withdraw-able amount within a week. Lots of ads though...

925  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Tour de Satoshi" This guy is trying to promote BTC by doing a bike tour. on: January 23, 2019, 06:14:07 PM
Very positive story which help promotion of BTC, in a somewhat unusual way. Although 10 days do not seem so much, yet this was a pretty demanding project because it took place in the winter period. Also it is interesting that Vitus Zeller on his journey is try to pay all its costs in BTC, and he succeeded in doing so in seven days which is a very good result.

The journey was successfully completed on January 13 in Frankfurt, and you can see all that he is experienced on his journey day by day.

https://medium.com/@vitus.zeller

I know I'd have trouble completing even half of that trip, I think he did it in a pretty short amount of time considering the distance.
His blog posts don't seem to have gotten that much attention, so I don't think it has that much impact.

Gave him some claps on Medium though, if anyone here has an account, I recommend doing the same.
I quite liked his writing.
926  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitPatron - The Bitcoin censorship-free Patreon alternative (lifetime discount) on: January 23, 2019, 05:51:16 PM
It's great to see a couple of Bitcoin-based Patreon alternatives pop up, a couple of weeks ago I saw Clica being launched here and wrote an article about them.
Might write another one for this service, it definitely looks a little bit better than Clica and has cheaper fees as well.

Just put in my e-mail address, hope I can make an account soon.

927  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you been able to resist? on: January 23, 2019, 04:56:00 PM
Yes, I personally have no problem taking a break from gambling any time I want.
A couple of months ago I posted a thread here about how I was going to take a break from gambling.

I had spent a little bit more than I wanted and decided to stop gambling for a couple of months.
Worked out great, I think I quit for around 3 - 4 months in total and now I still gamble occasionally.

I don't think I'm 'immune' to getting addicted or whatever, I just think I can get control over my actions when it's needed.

Here's the thread of mine that I mentioned:

928  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: So I played again recently, i noticed something.. on: January 23, 2019, 04:16:06 PM
When you say that you're sure about this, how have you analysed your findings?
How many games did you watch, before you can to the conclusion that the ball was getting into the red coloured hole?

I'm not dismissing the idea that a badly tilted table could alter the results, but just be careful that you have a large enough sample size.
In the end it could also be that your mind is playing tricks on you and that you're just seeing what you want to see.
929  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How about a bitcoin coinstar? on: January 23, 2019, 03:48:20 PM
The only issue is you can only change cash into BTC, not coins.
This is from their website :
https://www.coinstar.com/bitcoin
"Only cash is accepted. Coins cannot be used for Bitcoin transactions."

So you'd have to change your coins into bills and then use those to buy BTC... which means more fees.

Aww damn, when I initially heard about the news, I thought that they had added machines to convert actual coins into Bitcoin, just like their regular coin converters.
Still great, just because they have so many locations in the US.

It does seem like they've somewhat missed a great opportunity though.
930  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: CalQ - a simple command line crypto calculator on: January 23, 2019, 03:34:46 PM
Definitely an interesting little command line utility.
Might install it next to cryptop, since that doesn't have a calculator feature.

Are you planning on adding more features or do you just want to keep it as is?
931  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Eternitas is doing a Twitterpitch about inheritance on the blockchain! on: January 21, 2019, 04:02:35 PM

Source: https://twitter.com/EternitasIO

Eternitas is currently answering question on Twitter regarding their platform, which allows people to lock their inheritance on the blockchain.
Given that there are many topics on Bitcointalk asking about inheritance of digital assets, I thought this might be interesting for people.
932  Economy / Gambling / Re: ⭐Crypto-Games.net ⭐4 Years Old ⭐LARGEST wagering contest⭐25% referral commission on: January 21, 2019, 02:28:21 PM
Not like there is a way of knowing anything so I would never assume anything bad but normally its very difficult to have ONE jackpot winner, its very rare to get 2 winners on the same day and it is definitely something we do not see very often that there are 3 winners in the same day. But, 4 jackpots in the same day? That is really unlucky for the 4th dude I guess.

No, the slot jackpot is a fixed win amount depending on how much you've bet.
So the winners of those jackpots are equally lucky and none of their prizes are lower, since it's a fixed amount. (always x1000 your bet amount)

You're thinking of the dice/roulette jackpot Wink
933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where to invest BTC other than in casino bankrolls? on: January 21, 2019, 02:10:57 PM
Not exactly a bitcoin investment, but you can always invest in coins that offer POS rewards.
Whether it's actually profitable to so so is a bit of a gamble, as you don't know whether the fiat price of those coins will rise or drop after a year.

You can check out possible ROI on these websites:
https://www.poslist.org/
https://stakingrewards.com/

Whatever you do, stay away from Bitcoin investments that offer you high ROI.
Cloudmining is usually just a cover for ponzi's and if they are real, the chance of getting a profit is very very small.
934  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Request : Where are all the Lightning Network Faucets? on: January 21, 2019, 01:42:50 PM
Faucets are bad, because it's just paying tiny amounts of money people for watching ads, and guess who is engaging in this activity? Those who can't afford to buy anything, because they are broke and have to waste their time on faucets in the first place.

Faucets are not inherently bad, just the current implementation of most faucets are not all too kosher.
I could see great use-cases of a community-funded faucet for example.

In essence, they're a great way to teach people about Bitcoin, without them having to spend money on it.
People generally want to learn how something works without having to spend money on it, especially with something like Bitcoin.

You actually answered your own question.  Wink

In the beginning of Bitcoin, people like Gavin gave away his bitcoin for free to increase Bitcoin adoption. Yes, some people might argue that it might have been a bad move, because those bitcoins are worth a lot more now, but the question is, would it have been this valuable if he and many others like him, did not do that?

Supporters of the Lightning Network must donate money to kickstart a LN Faucet and they can offer advertisement space on the website to help fund the faucet.

The reward for them would be global adoption of the Lightning Network and a possible increase in the price. <This will increase the value of their remaining coins and would make up for their losses in the donations.>  Huh

Indeed, I did answer my own question Wink

I'd definitely support a crowdfunding effort like that.
Just like you, I also started out using faucets, after that I purchased some Bitcoins through Kraken.

I definitely see the merit in having a LN faucet that is not driven by advertising.
935  Economy / Gambling / Re: ⭐Crypto-Games.net ⭐4 Years Old ⭐LARGEST wagering contest⭐25% referral commission on: January 20, 2019, 09:56:58 PM
Is there a reason why you would block people who use vpn ?...
By using a VPN you run the risk of being implicated with someone else (if someone else is abusing our site using a VPN) and being blocked as a result of it.

If you feel you've been incorrectly blocked, you can throw an email to our support address and see if you can figure it out.

Good that you mention this actually, it's something that I haven't thought about yet.
I sometimes advise people to use a VPN, for reasons I won't officially disclose in this thread.

Luckily most VPNs offer a wide range of IPs, so it wouldn't be too hard to find one that isn't blocked.
936  Other / Off-topic / Re: A KYC database sold on the Darkweb ? on: January 20, 2019, 09:49:52 PM
And this is exactly the reason why I refuse to use any exchange that forces me to upload personal identification documents.
I've mentioned this many times in previous posts, but most people just don't seem to care.

In a way I'm kinda glad that this happened, just because now I can actually prove my point the next time this comes up.

I only buy Bitcoin through a Dutch exchange that works with IBAN (Bitonic), they only do SMS verification and your account is verified by purchasing Bitcoin via IBAN transfer.
I have a burner sim card, so that isn't a problem for me. I also don't mind using IBAN, since the transfers are secure.

To all people who just send their passports and pictures to exchanges without thinking about it:
Have fun dealing with identity theft in the future!

938  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Request : Where are all the Lightning Network Faucets? on: January 18, 2019, 07:25:23 PM
Even though I don't use faucets myself, I do agree that it's good for introducing new people to Bitcoin.
What's really needed is a faucet that doesn't rely on misleading advertising and possibly harmful pop-ups etc.

But yeah, who would build something like that, if there's no profit to be made with it?
Maybe a big corporation that's invested in Bitcoin and does this as some sort of promotion?

Here's code for a lightning network faucet at least (for testnet): https://github.com/lightninglabs/lightning-faucet

Disclaimer: I have not looked at the code, use at your own discretion.
939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: LBRY.IO - DICUSSION THREAD on: January 18, 2019, 02:52:33 PM
I'm loving the new design of the LBRY app. Just looks way more professional imo.
Almost can't believe how much it's updated, seems like you're releasing updates every couple of weeks or so.

Keep up the good work!

940  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: idea.. You Think its GOOD? on: January 18, 2019, 02:06:55 PM
Sorry, but if this is your idea of creating capital for your business then you're just plain delusional. You won't get a penny from your ICO.

Check my previous reply. He will not even be able to create an ICO for this.
He obviously can't create it himself, so just setting everything up will cost more money than he can spend.

Sure, he could go look for volunteers, but who would want to work with someone who can't even format a proper sentence in English?

OP, I think the best sort of investment for you is to invest in your own education.
Everything starts with being able to communicate, get enrolled in some English classes asap!

Again, not trying to be a dick, just giving you some very hard truth here.
