981  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My father thinks I'm working in a shop,he didn't know I'm bitcointalking. on: February 23, 2023, 08:46:04 AM
We thank God for bitcoin, that came as a messiah,to enrich the hopeful.

As said, bitcoin was not made to make people rich. However, I cannot deny it, it can provide now and then easy jobs with quick and flawless payments.

Now my father asks me about my shop, and where it's located,I told him I'm bitcointalking, and he doesn't know what I'm talking. What do yours tell you?

Well, I think that you're doing it wrong. "Bitcointalking" is not supposed to be a job. Relying on posting on a forum as a stable source of income can easily lead to big problems.
Lying your family about your job is imho even worse, although I clearly don't expect them to understand all this.
Imho the proper way should be to have a stable job (maybe at a shop) and whatever (and whenever) you get some extra from campaigns on bitcointalk... treat is as a bonus, because that's what it is.
982  Other / Archival / Re: [REQUEST] Do something with the HYIPs section on: February 22, 2023, 02:55:36 PM
Sounds to me from what Ratimov said that the whole section is not only bot-infested but pretty much dead anyway.  The best option would be to just nuke it, no?

I thought that he's exaggerating, that's why I came wit other possible idea/direction too. Now, after xandry showing the full picture I'm no longer that sure and indeed, nuke may be just the right direction.
983  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What does 'int' mint in Bitcoin on: February 22, 2023, 11:20:17 AM
It's about a data type in the code or data.

The thing is that a signed int (32 bit signed integer) takes values between -2,147,483,648 and 2,147,483,647,
while unsigned int goes between 0 and 4,294,967,295

Clearly Satoshi meant that in case an error is found in his code, that has to be fixed before a big number is reached (bigger than 2,147,483,647), because in case of signed int that will mean an overflow to negative numbers.

Things are going just fine and dandy, and then lookie uie pooie.. (aka somac) coming in and ruinin dee moo...    Angry Angry Angry Angry

No. The (overall) mood was OK at under 17k in December, hence at the current 24k-25k levels just a post like that cannot ruin the mood.
985  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core wallet to sparrow on: February 21, 2023, 07:45:41 PM
is there any reliable solution to import the wallet to either sparrow or electrum, and get a seedphrase that way?

You cannot import Bitcoin Core's wallet file into another wallet. And while afaik the new Bitcoin Core wallets are also HD, they are not based on a seed in the way you see it for Electrum or Sparrow (BIP39 and so on).
Is having the seed that important? The private key(s) aren't enough for your needs?

If you want to obtain the HD seed of your Bitcoin core wallet (but it will be BIP32, not BIP39), you may want to read this on Reddit and maybe try your luck with this tool (but I have no idea if it works and I would not use it with a wallet that may have anything valuable in it).

So, as I said, maybe you just get the private keys of the relevant addresses, it should be easier.
986  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: starting holding with an "old" hardware wallet on: February 21, 2023, 07:35:07 PM
Hi there! I bought a trezor t on march 2021 using some btc, i never opened it, now i'm thinking about starting investing a little bit, basicly holding some cryptos i like, but i don't know if it is worth to keep this trezor t or sell it and buy the new one or another kind of hardware wallet. Some advices are appreciated, peace.

Well done! Really! Most just go head first into issues. Having a hardware wallet and also asking is a very good way to go.

As the others said, you should update the firmware. It's important, please don't miss this.
Also as others said, you should keep the backup seed safely. But I will say some more things:
1. Make sure it's you who generate a new seed on your device.
2. The seed must be written down and stored safely offline and preferably in at least two places, geographically separated.
3. Maybe it's overkill, but I've seen cases this could have been avoiding other issues: after everything is set up and you can see (write down/copy-paste) your first address or few addresses (I use my hardware wallet with Electrum and there this is easier) reset the hardware wallet again, restore from the written down seed and see if you've got the same addresses. Especially since it's expected you may play around a little with your Trezor it's better to be 100% certain the seed you'll be putting to safety is indeed the one the Trezor has in use.
987  Economy / Exchanges / Re: FTX Japan resumes fiat and crypto withdrawals today on: February 21, 2023, 06:51:55 PM
Customers who traded with FTX.US are still waiting to hear what will happen while the exchange continues its bankruptcy process. Japan's regulators were praised for passing stringent laws to protect its investors so quickly.

While people around the world have higher hopes now on getting their money back, it's important to make it clear that Japan is a rather unique situation: there FTX had to insure their operations in order to get the license to operate. That insurance is what pays now the customers' money, not FTX.

PS: In my topic in Press about FTX withdrawals in Japan I seem to have better source for the news.
988  Economy / Speculation / Re: What comes next for Bitcoin: $20K or $30K? on: February 21, 2023, 02:45:52 PM
What are your thoughts? Will the bullish uptrend continue or will price get rejected by $25K resistance level and correct back to the downside?

I am optimistic and I voted 30k. Clearly a cooldown will come again - sooner or later -, but we seem to jump into a FOMO-like atmosphere already (at least crypto Twitter seems to be there), and if it's so then the cooldown may only happen after 35-40k (and will be a bit painful/disappointing for some).
989  Bitcoin / Press / [2023-02-21] FTX Japan allows customers withdraw their funds on: February 21, 2023, 02:37:19 PM

Bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX has partially resumed operations in Japan – allowing customers to withdraw funds
https://technewsspace.com/bankrupt-cryptocurrency-exchange-ftx-has-partially-resumed-operations-in-japan-allowing-customers-to-withdraw-funds/

The title says it all. The Japanese are the luckier. The rest.. can only hope, but not too much.
The withdrawal will not be straightforward, it will happen through Liquid Japan, still, I am sure the Japanese won't complain too much, excepting the few for which somehow the records got lost (strange).

Now, some interesting points:

Japan’s ability to protect its consumers from losing money due to the crypto exchange collapse can serve as a model for other countries, The Register noted.

* The withdrawals are possible because the regulations in Japan ask for mandatory insurance. So the withdrawals come from the insurer, not FTX (which is bad news for the rest of the world).
**  I think that this will fuel the urge for more strict regulation of crypto (and not as it should - the crypto businesses), possibly also missing exactly this insurance part.
**  I think that this will fuel the urge to make everything with even stricter KYC requirements

* People will miss the point that this is insurance money and will expect FTX "recover". And if FTX name will come back in a way or another, I would not surprised is all will jump in like nothing has happened.
990  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: List of useful Bitcoin block explorers on: February 21, 2023, 01:58:03 PM
I've not checked it but hovering might be not possible for mobile devices?

Indeed, it's not working for mobile phones, still I think that if you use this trick at least for the dates (and also make the header more condensed/multiline) you can at least from there squeeze more space. And the comments also.. they're useful, but not crucial, hence one can live without them on mobile.
991  Economy / Services / Re: [REOPEN] Review Utopia and Get Paid with Bitcoin! 💎| Signature Campaign | Sr.+ on: February 21, 2023, 10:39:29 AM
Hi all !
Question: I was looking for a Utopia build for RaspburyPi 4/8GB. There is a DEB package but they are for the x64 architecture. Question - are there official / unofficial assemblies for ARM architecture? Or can someone himself collected from the source? It is interesting to put a node on RaspburyPi. Who has any thoughts on this?

From what I know Utopia i not open source, hence no chance for unofficial builds.
And for your questions I think that one good direction would be Utopia's own chat channel/lobby, but, yeah, for that you'll have to install Utopia.
992  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ELI5: What is Ordinals and how they work? on: February 21, 2023, 09:24:09 AM
For example, if a single sat can be inscribed with a artifact, say there is a sat that has mp3 inscribed, where is the mp3 is kept/saved/hosted?

You didn't pay attention to what pooya87 told you. I'll quote it again: "The satoshis are not inscribed"
The data you are asking about is in the Taproot script. And you can have anything there, from byte representation of an image or mp3 to something much shorter, like the link to a website. That data, the Taproot script, is stored in the transaction, hence on the blockchain. You can see that since this ordinals crap has started some of the blocks are even larger than 3 MB.

At least this is how I understand all this.

994  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anybody know the documentary starring theymos? on: February 20, 2023, 09:34:13 PM
A movie or documentary can easily have its entire cast published. As real names. And this can easily end up with doxxing.
Does it count as doxxing if the personal information is already published on the internet? I would think not.

Imho it is. As long as the person didn't reveal his identity and it's not obvious (and this may be debatable too) who it is, finding out the identity (even from public sources) is imho doxxing simply because what is maybe easy-to-find for you, may not be as obvious for many others.
...But I may be wrong.
995  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is the Catalan Whitepaper? on: February 20, 2023, 09:19:51 PM
I've traced it to this commit when Catalan was removed from the white paper translations page:

https://github.com/bitcoin-dot-org/Bitcoin.org/commit/02e2abb2d7285f89c88dadbb71af16626bfaa997
It was in 6 Sep 2022.

I've played with the wayback machine and I've got the versions from 31 Oct 2020; if somebody has the patience can look more.
However, the web page is: https://web.archive.org/web/20201031235719/https://bitcoin.org/en/bitcoin-paper
And the Catalan pdf is: https://web.archive.org/web/20201016112752/https://bitcoin.org/files/bitcoin-paper/bitcoin_ca.pdf

I recommend double checking it and getting multiple people confirm the document is well written before asking/re-adding it.
996  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does anybody know the documentary starring theymos? on: February 20, 2023, 08:55:32 PM
Now instead of talking about documentaries I have to talk about (denying) doxxing. Jesus!

Well, to be honest, I have read about your request much eariler and watched the story develop.
A movie or documentary can easily have its entire cast published. As real names. And this can easily end up with doxxing.
By how I know you, I am certain that this is not your intention, but still, it can get to that.

For now this topic looks like an incredible listing of Bitcoin related movies, but, no offense, but I would not have too many hopes to get answers to... that question...

I tried to make some waves in there, but I think that more is needed, not just people interested to stay for a short while.
Good luck with these raffles, I hope the team will convince more people hang in there...

C-asa-i in tenis...

Ah, da, si asta...

Doamne, cat de tare e vorba asta...

Ce am de ascuns? Totul!

1000  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank of Russia to Pilot CBDC in April on: February 20, 2023, 11:58:43 AM
I can't see how interest in this from the average citizen will be anything greater than zero. Because it's still a Russian ruble, only in a digital form instead of notes. This will actually make it even less convenient for businesspeople because they have to interact with clients who may not use technology, whereas CDBC requires both parties to have a digital device in order to make any transactions.

Same goes for just about any other CDBC in the world.

No, it's not the same everywhere in the world.
Let's say that the large companies, obviously friendly to the government, will give out the salaries as CBDCs (and this is easily possible in Russia and China). What would the people do?
Some few may move the funds ASAP into something else. But the most will just use/spend them as CBDCs on the daily basis, since "they said on TV that this is the future" and "they have nothing to hide", to give just two easy narratives.
