After Copenhagen beat United at home the logic will be clear  Grin I have a suspicion that besides the fact that United itself is weak, some of the players are already interested in changing the coach, so they  specifically are not trying to get good results. This theory is supported by the fact that the United management recently supported Ten Hag - I always see such statements when there is a conflict between the team and the coach.

And it's not just because 'it's at home'.  It's at Old Trafford and United rarely loses at Old Trafford especially vs more inferior squads.  It just shows that the club is as in shambles today as it was after Ferguson left.  I think in hindsight it would've been better for them to have stuck with Moyes for a couple more years for stability before looking for a high profile manager.  I think stability was what Ferguson had in mind when he earmarked Moyes to be his replacement.  Moyes did have decent results at Everton at the time.

As for the pool I'm happy where I'm at.  I could've been a couple of notches higher if I didn't miss one day of picks.  :/

It seems to me that even with Solskjaer, United would be doing better, especially if the owners listened to his wishes regarding transfers. He recently said that he offered to buy Haaland, Rice, Bellingham and Caicedo, but his wishes were not heard. Moreover, this was when the price for Haaland’s transfer was only 4.5 million euros (LOL). Solskjaer was able to discern talent and a great future in these players, but unfortunately he was not allowed to realize this.

Cheesy

Usually Dembele and Kolo Muani should be able to assist him a lot. If they are all in their best form they can be one of the best attack lines in Europe. But it is easy to anticipate that they will lack consistency. Dembele has never managed to be consistent for more than two months I believe and Kolo Muani has played amazing in Frankfurt, but still owes the proof how he will be doing over the course of a whole season in a club like PSG. The league shouldn't be a problem for him, that is nothing new, but the Champions League as far as I know is new to him and he was pretty bad last game.

Agree. Even the combination of Mbappe + Kolo Muani looks like potentially the best in Europe (and therefore in the world) and I don’t even know what other pair of strikers this duo can be compared with. Dembele has always been inconsistent, but the way he left Barcelona shows that he still has big ambitions and maybe they will help him overcome this and perform well more consistently. So far, PSG is having temporary difficulties, but I continue to believe that the team has greater potential than last year.

You know, I was thinking right, so many games in Europa and Conference Leagues, and many big teams there, someone should do a pool for them. Maybe not individually but combined. BSFL style quiz + PotB style 100% football. It sounds like something I would pay for. Or is it too crazy to ask people to play?

The only threads with loads of responses in these tournaments are the spam threads Tongue

Are polls not enough for you?  Cheesy It seems to me that there are already quite enough of them, at least I even started to forget to make some predictions (like in this poll PotB in the last round). Plus, in my opinion, the Europa League and the Conference League are random competitions where the results will be similar to the results in the lottery.
2245  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2023/24 on: October 06, 2023, 11:49:00 AM
Of course, without reliable players who can scored, Real Madrid will have difficulty to get full points in all competitions. Although currently the depth of Real Madrid squad is not too bad, but performance of the second tier players is always unstable. I mean sometimes they have good performance when played, but not always good. Ancelotti will be very confused if Real Madrid reliable player is unavailable because that is key for Real Madrid victory so far.

Besides this, there is another serious problem - Modric and Kroos are not happy with the amount of their playing time. It is obvious that Real does not count on them in the future, so they are gradually becoming bench players, but I am surprised that this causes some tension - was it really not obvious when their contracts were extended that this was already a transition season for them. To be honest, I assumed that this issue had already been settled.

Crap. I'm tired of getting rid of injured players but their number is not decreasing. At the moment they are Botman, Estupinan and Gakpo. It seems that all three will be back in action very quickly, but when the bench contains literally one healthy player it is annoying.
I'm surprised that my team performs above average (apparently the rest suffer from injuries even more haha).
2247  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Germany League - Bundesliga Prediction Thread on: October 06, 2023, 10:56:54 AM
Checking the games for the next week in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen would face Koln in this week and this can't be a hard game for Xabi Alonso and his team considering the last games we saw from Leverkusen in this season.
It's safe to say Leverkusen is not going to lose this place anytime soon and they will win this game against Koln to not give Tichel and Bayern Munich the cache to decrease the gap.

The only thing that confuses me here is the rather generous quotes for Bayer's victory. It may seem that 1.36 is the usual/modest odds, but Bayer is the sole leader and shows an excellent game, and Koln shares last place with Mainz. It may be taken into account here that Bayer had a difficult game with Molde in the Europa League and they will be less rested than Koln.

Manchester United conceded 14 goals in six matches is not entirely the goalkeeper's responsibility, there are defenders who also have a role in maintaining the defense well, but unfortunately, United's defense is very weak when Varane or Luke Shaw are not playing.
It is impossible for Ten Hag to be on the bench for Andre Onana because replacing him with Manchester United's second goalkeeper might make things worse, what United is currently facing is not a problem in goalkeeping but in all areas, and that is quite unfortunate after last season's performance was better, but since the start of the season they have looked weaker than last season, and losing to Galasataray in the champions league added to the length of their defeat at Old Trafford this season at least they have experienced this 3 times so appearing in front of their fans is not enough to help them perform better, including later against Copenhagen who can provide tough resistance to Bayern Munich, and seeing Manchester United still at the bottom of the rankings is quite sad.

Of these 14 goals, at least two were entirely on Onan's conscience - this is a lot for a distance of 6 games. If we talk about the other goals, it is clear that this is the result of team play, but so far Onana is not “saving” at the last line. He doesn't do anything special, after all he is playing worse so far than De Gea who had bad days (sometimes) but sometimes he saved United and it was only thanks to him that United got points.
I think by the way that there is nothing wrong with giving the reserve goalkeeper a chance, if I remember correctly, in the days of Ferguson, after unsuccessful games, the reserve goalkeeper got his chance and the main goalkeeper knew that he must match the level if he wants to always play in the first team.

There has been too much discussion about the Arsenal vs Manchester City match this week that many have forgotten that tomorrow Manchester United will compete again, this time the opponent is Brentford. Statistically in H2H Manchester United is ahead with 3 wins and Brenford only managed to win 1x and that too with a landslide score. Looking at the progress of the two teams so far in the standings, of course Manchester United is a little better but they are too bad for a big EPL team. Meanwhile, Brentford, which is a mediocre team, is not surprised that they have had a bad start to the season by sitting in 14th position. I think this will be a battle for 3 points for each team and of course this will be an important match this week for both teams to determine their next position. Will Manchester United succeed in breaking the series of defeats they suffered in the previous match this time, or will Bentford continue to add to the bad record for the Red Devils by beating them at Old Trafford?

On the one hand, it’s hard for me to imagine that United will lose another match. On the other hand, there are several factors in favor of this: Brandford rested and prepared for this game, and United wasted energy in the Champions League. But the most important factor that introduces insurmountable uncertainty for me is that it seems that some players deliberately play poorly/do not try because of a conflict with the coach.
2250  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Italian League Prediction Thread (Serie A) on: October 06, 2023, 10:24:57 AM
Mourinho got what he needed to get tonight, since he got bad results with his team in the Serie A and had poor performance there, he and his was were under pressure and they needed to get a win and good result to make things better.
Today against Servette they won the game with a 4-0 result and players like Lukaku had good performances there and they didn't even use Dybala in this match.
However, after the game, Mourinho said he was not happy with the performance of the team at all.

I think Mourinho is happy, but he doesn’t want history to repeat itself when Roma first beat Empoli 7-0 and then lost 1-4 in the next game. There is a game with Cagliari ahead and I think that Roma is still under pressure even in this game - Cagliari is in last place in the standings and everyone expects only victory from Roma.

Now, with this defeat, Besiktas' fate is very slim after only collecting one point in Group D standings.

Besiktas has two games ahead with Bude-Glimt, I think they are quite capable of taking 6 points in these games. Then they have a home game with Brugge, it’s difficult to make assumptions here since Brugge is the favorite in the group, but in the first game away, Besiktas drew with them. And the last game will be away with Lugano, I think that this will be the game where the second team that can qualify from the group will be determined. Besiktas has excellent chances, nothing has been lost yet.

Brighton cares more about playing well in the Premier League than the Europa League, after all, even if Brighton win the Europa League, they will receive less money for it than just for the regular season in the Premier League.
Money is not the motivation for the players and the coaching staff. They want to be on the continental stage and get an opportunity to shine. Besides the money from European competitions does not stop the one they get from the domestic league and with winning the Europa league thay are already guaranteed millions for just qualifying to the champions league.

There is so much at stake meaning that, any club not performing well is not for want of trying.

- Jay -

Theoretically, your reasoning sounds logical, but in fact we all see increased randomness of results in Europa League games, and if we compare the teams that play in the finals of the Champions League and Europa League, we will see that in the Europa League almost anyone can get to the final. The format of the tournaments is the same, which means that this is justified by the attitude of the clubs to the tournament.
But the closer we get to the final, the greater the motivation, because the title is close and indeed a victory in the Europa League gives a direct ticket to the Champions League.

You know, I remember very well the times before VAR, so I cannot agree. Previously, we could see two-meter offsides, the ball jumping out of the goal (and therefore not counted), the most blatant simulations in almost every round. Now we probably do this once every six months and therefore we are very indignant - since we have simply become accustomed to the fact that such mistakes have no place in football. But the human factor is still there (as in the case of Liverpool where VAR worked correctly but the referees made a mistake in communication).

And VAR was implemented to solve these close margin offside calls and not to make it worse

But it seems to me that if we just take the number of errors, it has decreased significantly. In addition, the number of potential violations has decreased - many players do not simulate violations of the rules or refrain from breaking them because they know that VAR can detect this.

I will not mind seeing the semi-automated VAR technology in use in Europe being included in the EPL. It will help eliminate any doubts in really close calls, like the Gernacho goal against Arsenal.
Then the communication between the officials need to be publicly available and not on request. This will go some way to restore trust in the technology.

- Jay -

The English Football Association would not implement any technology over which they have no control or know how to manipulate; we witnessed how long it took for VAR technology to be accepted in the EPL.

The fact that VAR came to football much later than in sports such as tennis and others is truly a shame and evidence of deep corruption. But now the main changes have been made and further improvements are only a matter of time.
2255  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: October 05, 2023, 07:39:59 PM
VAR has failed totally since its implementation, and it will continue to fail as long as the corrupt refs continue to operate and make decisions. When VAR was introduced,.I assumed it would be an independent entity from the Refeeres association.

What happened to the goal line technology used in the Qatar World Cup? Why wasn't it used for league matches? It is more advanced and better than what we currently have.

Last week, Christian Pulisic called for the removal of VAR; technology is getting worse, and these players are no longer pleased.

You know, I remember very well the times before VAR, so I cannot agree. Previously, we could see two-meter offsides, the ball jumping out of the goal (and therefore not counted), the most blatant simulations in almost every round. Beşiktaş, one of our representatives, lost 3-2 to their rival Lugano at home. Beşiktaş played a good game in the first half and managed to close the first half ahead. Beşiktaş started the second half fast and doubled the difference with Aboubakar's second goal. In the 61st minute, Beşiktaş lost control of the match as they were reduced to 10 men after Rosier received a red card. Besiktas conceded 3 goals in the last 10 minutes and lost 3-2 in a match in which they led 2-0.

This result is even more unexpected for me than Braga’s comeback from 0-2 to 2-3 yesterday. Still, Union Berlin can be said to be new to the European Cups and they took off too quickly, so the volatility of the results is expected. Besiktas is a much more experienced club, I understand that the red card completely ruined the game, but three goals in 10 minutes... damn it hurts.
2257  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Europa League 2023/24 Season on: October 05, 2023, 07:28:57 PM
Ajax sells a lot of players every off-season and it is difficult for them to constantly be at the top of the Eurocups. Brighton are also playing poorly in this group stage, but they are not only in decline in the EL, their results have also worsened in the Premier League. Sometimes this happens when a team needs to play in several tournaments, but is not ready for this, mainly due to a small bench. So far, AEK is leading this group and their game looks very decent at the moment.

Brighton cares more about playing well in the Premier League than the Europa League, after all, even if Brighton win the Europa League, they will receive less money for it than just for the regular season in the Premier League. And even though Brighton are now in last place in the group, they are only three points behind the leader and only one point behind second place. Literally one successful round is enough to fly into the qualification zone.

Only it seems to me that this fight finally became meaningless after information appeared about the Usyk-Fury fight at the end of December 2023 or January 2024? For some reason, it seems to me that all boxing fans are now worried about Fury not getting some kind of injury during this fight so that we can finally see the most important fight of recent years.

On the part of Tyson Fury? this fight is not going to be meaningless, I mean he can used this one as a tune up fight for his upcoming unification class with Usyk. ~

No, I mean from a boxing fan's point of view. It's one thing to watch a circus fight when there is nothing else, then Ok, why not. But when you know that in 2-3 months there will be a fight that everyone has been waiting for for several years (I think this can be said because unification fights do not happen so often), then there is no special desire to watch a circus fight.
Ngannou doesn’t have many chances, but he does have them. How ironic it would be if he wins or Fury gets injured that ruins the next fight.
