2641  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Overt AsicBoost Released today? on: October 31, 2018, 07:28:24 AM
... one company very obviously missing from the list is Innosilicon who are using AB in their T1+ and T2 series of miners. The companies that are listed have NO patents to their name to 'share' with others and aside from Halong nor do they produce/sell any miners. Are they shell companies owned by Inno or otherwise associated with them? [...]

IMHO that rather points to Inno being behind Little Dragon and the AB patent...

Yeah I was thinking the same thing about Inno as I reviewed the hardware list I have yesterday. While it all seems to convenient I remember there being something in the Halong thread that there was some business relationship between Halong and Inno, just can't find/remember what it was. Regardless it shouldn't have been an open door to the tech unless there was something else going on behind closed doors.

Then I was also wondering about Bitfily they also produced miners that run AB, and I'm not sure who or how they fit into that list of licensees.

Regardless I guess it's safe to say any manufacturer who think s AB will improve their efficiency will be able to integrate it into their designs in the future, or at least test it and decide. That's assuming the patent continues to get tossed.
2642  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: TRIPLE-1, Inc. 株式会社 松島 KAMIKAZE 7nm SHA-256 ASIC on: October 31, 2018, 07:11:04 AM
Yeah for all of the promoting of their project after milestones have passed on their roadmap, you could say were still in early September.

I don't know what the gameplan is here, maybe it's a cultural difference in how business is done. It could be that they really don't care about the global market and strictly want to deal within Japan alone for now.

Either way I can't wrap my head around the lack of anything like photos of chips and components or prototypes being unboxed. I won't count them out yet, as I've seen worse marketing still deliver the product.
2643  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: TRIPLE-1, Inc. 株式会社 松島 KAMIKAZE 7nm SHA-256 ASIC on: October 31, 2018, 01:59:15 AM
I had reached out to them to get any more information about the miners regarding ship date, cost, and reviews.

Their reply was that they have or will have only a small number of Demo units, and have many inquiries/offers for this. This doesn't meant one way or another whether there will be any independent reviews done prior to launch.

As far as any other information, they plan to only use their website and other "official presses" to update people which is the same generic response others have received previously. So this looks like the website alone, as I couldn't find a Twitter or Facebook page advertised anywhere on the site.

Without them advertising if they've hit their benchmarks along the way with chip/demo unit delivery it's hard to say how long we are waiting. They still have the same information that their 1st mass production units are due by the end of November based on the road map.

The pro here is that they aren't taking any money up front at the moment. I'm just hoping we get some updates or a product launch soon
2644  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: How about a solar power source for pop one price mining on: October 31, 2018, 01:39:49 AM
Was this for the second Solar array you were planning? That sucks, as I feel you have a good model for what is available to people. How long does that kill the project for?

Not everyone has grants, investment capital or the right environment but it is a good project for those that do, especially if they want to mine with cheap energy costs. ( After the initial investment of course)
2645  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: My dead avalon 741 story starting 9/21/2017 on: October 31, 2018, 01:34:44 AM
Hey there,

You are best to ask this here in the Troubleshooting and repair guide for AvalonMiner models 721, 741, 761, 821 & 841 , Which it looks like you were the last person to post in regarding a different issue.

In an attempt to assist, I don't use Nicehash so I was unaware there was a specific firmware needed. Are you sure you used the version for PI 2 b, and not one of the other 2 options, Also double check it's the 741 version?

When you do post could you try and add links to images for the miner status page and post the Api log using the code feature like you did in this post. The more information the better.

Also did you try letting them run normally at first pointed elsewhere? This would help in figuring out if it is a firmware issue or maybe an issue with the controller/controller power supply.

Edit:

This is also the 7 series hardware thread you might be able to find some info there, as it was active during the time that firmware was released, definitely worth a serch.
2646  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: 9X AntMINER S9 14.5 TH/S USED - 180$ EACH GET THEM FAST on: October 30, 2018, 09:49:00 AM
Posting pictures is not hard you can upload to a site like imgur, and then post the link here.

You think you send the units to the "escrow"? Escrow DOES NOT test equipment. The buyer does.

Devils Advocate, I have seen escrow done both ways, not often though. The standard is generally the seller would show proof of a functioning miner, then upon arrival the buyer would test the unit, upon verifying it's functional the escrow releases the funds.

This is where using a trusted forum escrow is beneficial as they can ensure it is done properly.

[WTS] Guidelines I suggest OP and anyone transacting on the forum read this, it shows what to look for, and provide as far as information goes. If conditions in this post are not met I do not trade nor do I advise anyone else to trade. This goes for all forum sales.
2647  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Overt AsicBoost Released today? on: October 30, 2018, 08:37:21 AM
Why do so many folks still continue to wrongly say that Halong Mining owns the AB patent?

What can I say lost in the details/lack thereof. I guess I did assume their identities as being under one umbrella, as that makes the most sense to me when I look at their overall corporate relationships. Regardless we'll see if they stick around or do anything in the future; or if they end it as an enigmatic puppet.

As to violating the Patent - highly doubt it though of course I expect that to be contested. However BM made mention in their blog that the Patent has already been shot down in several jurisdictions. More to the point - you cannot Patent an end result (reuse of previous hash calcs) and there are always several ways to skin a cat. Case in point, Intel/AMD cpu's, the various makes of GPU's, etc. all do the same thing, just differently but producing the same results.

This I find interesting and plays into my musings above. This "game changing" patent came out of nowhere and was being used to create a consortium of companies sharing patents. Now it is being shot down as non enforceable by a company that was easily able to adapt their machines to run in the same manner. In the end it looks like an improvement that was held back and used in an attempt at corporate espionage done out in the open.

I might finally have my chance to play around with AB gear as the T9+ is supposed to have some firmware drop, really can't make the machine any worse fingers crossed.

It's nice to know that there are manufacturers out there finding ways around needing this and getting great results. This is still where I plan on looking for new gear.
2648  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will btc difficulty go sideways for rest of the year? on: October 30, 2018, 08:16:24 AM
I've been looking for some more information on the Bitmain firmware for OAB.

So far what I've seen is improved efficiency at a  lower hashrate (-6% I think). So I doubt it will contribute overall to an increase in network hash. Before the dip in price I expected some people to fire up their S9's that are kicking around, some may still, but not enough to make a significant impact.

I still think the flat idea will hold true until these batches of efficient gear hit the market and have a few weeks of hashing in.
2649  Other / Meta / Re: Reporter Statistics on: October 30, 2018, 01:57:41 AM

These are my stats to date. I always wondered about the 6 bad, but they were early and I just moved on. I've been stepping it up a little more lately more than half of these come from going hard at the Spam in Bitcoin Discussion.

I find a grossly infected thread and report all Sig spam within the payment period and generally report the thread to be locked. A lot of them turn out to be questions that were answered or opinion/speculation that was about an event that has passed. I try to carve out a little time for this every week no matter what as it does seem to be improving the board a bit.

If nothing else good on everyone, every report helps in some way.

I stopped reporting a long time ago. However, will have more time and will be reporting out of my section soon enough. *snip*

You have until I come back from my expedition! Which is in 6ish days. I don't know I've lost count of the days over here. I'll be having a lot more time on my hands as this year and last has been training for this.

Your numbers are insane, but it shows the effort you've put in while here to help clean up the boards.

Expedition you say, climbing mountains?? Either way have fun, and be cautious.
2650  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Best way to cool 400 miners in 90+ degree outside air temperature? on: October 30, 2018, 01:29:40 AM
So let's talk numbers. 400 Antminer s9s will require 48,000 CFM of exhaust for proper cooling in warm environments. You should do five 10,000 CFM fans. They key is to be able to turn off individual fans to lower your CFM when days are cooler. You NEVER want to assume pushing a lot of air is a good thing for the miners. Too much air can cause the fan guards to get too cool and build condensation. This will lead to corrosion on the heat sinks. Typically for this amount of miners, you should also include a fan that can re-inject the hot exhaust air back into the cold isle. You will want to do this in the winter and keep the "cold" isle around a constant 80 degrees F. There are automatic systems that can be designed to do all of this for you.

Great information. I would give consideration to putting 1 of the 5 fans on a VFD (variable frequency drive). In the long run this helps save energy by helping you when yourself "between fans". Instead of 1 running full out it will adjust from say 25 - 100% capacity reducing your power consumption. The other 4 fans can be set by the PLC to turn them on and off in sequence.

This may also be useful in the Winter months as the fan on VFD can still move the amount of air required and not more than necessary. (Can't say I'm familiar with Texas winters so I don't know how much more planning you would require.

Well you twisted my rubber arm. I'll even double down if they try and use paramour, spelling can (who am I kidding) will be significantly off.

I'm putting 3 drinks down on a roommates significant other.

They are getting more desperate everyday and coworker/sibling/spouse/cousin are all wearing thin, bring on the new material.

We need to make "banned bingo" great again.... or the first time I guess
2652  Other / Meta / Re: Question about a banned account on: October 25, 2018, 11:15:25 PM
Come on guys it wasn't plagiarism, it was a double post. Totally different concept, it's more like the post went through mitosis a natural and beautiful process for posts to duplicate in the wild.

DRINK!!!

That's 2 I've seen, guess I'm drinking tonight  Wink
2653  Other / Meta / Re: [LOG] sMerit HODLers who sent merits for the first time on: October 25, 2018, 07:46:30 PM
Another merit analysis... forum became Merittalk instead of Bitcointalk.
you're also a contributor to this. One way or the other we all are Grin I don't even understand the need of this
Merit fan of top merited user (all time) and recognize rank.

Snip

Look like you are still live on childhood. If I am not wrong second time you attack me with same *snip*

Hardly an attack in any way shape or form. Just accurately using information, and it even seemes to be done in jest, either way.

To play devils advocate as to why some of these members(likely a small percentage) would engage in this behavior.

Perhaps they didn't accept the merit system. Silently chanting "Not my Merit System". In this case they didn't engage or partake in the merit system and continued on in blissful abstention. They may have then taken exception with the new part of the system and then decided to go out meriting newbies.

2654  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: October 25, 2018, 05:29:04 PM
Hello to all! I recently learned about this project and missed the news and the reason for this price increase. I hope this is not just a pump, RVN is profitable to mineable. I will transfer my rigs to RVN. What is the reason for the price jump?

Being awesome.

Apart from that it is a coin with a puropse.

It launched without premine, in a fair open matter. There were no funds set aside for Devs or anyone else. So it had a great start, and the Dev team has been actively fixing bugs, communicating with the community and making sure things are ready.

On top of that the launch of the main net asset layer is coming up in 6 days or so, that has really driven up price as many like yourself are taking notice of RVN now.
2655  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: 15% capital gain tax in US? on: October 25, 2018, 05:19:41 PM
Not an american but a quick tappity tap on the old google turned up this nice explanation with numbers.

https://masterthecrypto.com/cryptocurrency-taxes-crypto-tax-impacts/

It's interesting how much taxes a government is able to prove and clay claim to in a pseudo- anonymous environment. I feel people really need to step up their game in regards to the tools they have at their disposal to help maintain a certain anonymity from those that pry.

I feel like I've seen something pretty much every time I post that assists in obscuring connections between people/wallets and coins, I just can't put my finger on it...

I guess in a way fortunately for myself I'm not currently in a Hodl pattern, so for the most part my country doesn't care.
2656  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is it okay to trade on telegram? on: October 25, 2018, 12:54:52 AM
I'm not sure what the trade is exactly, but I have a thread I use to assist people with their [WTS] ads. It's also good for buyers as it gives them an idea of what to look for. [WTS] advice

One of my tips is to continue discussion out in the open on the forum, it doesn't have to be all the details but a clear image that an agreement has been made. Makes it easier to prove who has been wronged should something go awry.

Generally people with hacked/stolen/or throwaway accounts (newbie/jr. member) want to do this as it's easier to run a scam off site. With something like telegram they have the opportunity to make you feel rushed or pressured I have found.

Regardless of what's involved I communicate on forum and use forum escrow. I would suggest taking some time to go through the marketplace check out the stickied topics, and different sections like goods and currency exchange. These areas will give you an idea of best practices.
2657  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help from a mod on: October 25, 2018, 12:44:35 AM

Off-topic

You are 100% right Juggy777; I'm wondering did you report to moderator requesting the thread be locked? If not it does work, so the next time you find yourself making perfectly valid points about a thread having served it's purpose just report away.

In case you didn't I have done so.
2658  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Getting windows on my rig on: October 25, 2018, 12:31:54 AM
Before I forget this thread has some great people on it that can be super helpful in these situations. It's in the Alt coin mining section; normally I would say search or create your own topic there but it's tough to navigate at the best of times.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3843565.0

To try and help you here. Are you only trying to boot Windows to MOD the cards? Or are you planning on running Windows permanently?

I'm no expert I run 1 rig, and have swapped between HiveOS and Windows which is where I stayed for what I'm mining at the moment. It would be awesome if your Smos where on a USB ( you only need 8GB I think) and you could just have the SSD loaded with Windows and swap between them freely that way. Is that something you could do to make your life simpler??

If nothing else when you turn on the rig you should just have to hit Delete key if I'm not mistaken to access the Bios from there you can select the what to boot from.
2659  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Setting up a mining facility, need some help and suggestions on: October 24, 2018, 04:45:30 PM
I can't speak to everything on your list; as I'm a small scale miner.

One detail people may need to know is are you planning on building a new facility or modifying an existing building?

Here is a thread to give you a decent jumping in point regarding mining.  First time/Small miner reference for getting started.

That topic will go over the basics and give you insight into how you can estimate your power consumption. Also consider following the link to competitive hardware.

Security - This will depend on the country you are operating in as well as the location urban or rural. Personally a secure facility with the minimum amount of doors and no main level windows would be best. You can then get a monitoring system for security that notifies the local police in case of alarm. These are handy, but false alarms do become burdensome. The thing is your facility is more at risk of being mistaken for something else with an easier to  move stolen goods.

Tools - Again I'm not to sure but generally you will be responsible for your own transformer(s) and electrical infrastructure. You will need/want racks obviously to position the miners and PSU's. I would assume you will also be investing in PDU's; at the level your talking you may want smart PDU'S they cost a substantial amount more but offer features you may find useful for switching and power consumption monitoring.

Airflow -Look up Hot/Cold aisle. This will have your miners with a wall essentially running down the middle. Ambient intake air on the miner intake side and the hot exhaust coming out the other. This is also how you will handle the cooling using intake fans for the cold aisle, and exhaust fans to discharge the hot aisle. Do not use AC it will kill your profits.

Not sure what you mean about storage. In regards to spare parts, you will want to have spare PSU's and PDU's on hand. that way you are set for a quick swap if one craps out. If you use Avalons then I sould suggest a spare Pi or 2 (controllers for up to 20 machines). I would also hold onto any machines that do go down as there may be some interchangeable parts you can salvage - Fans, Hash boards, Control boards, Cables.

Good luck, maybe someone with more experience in the larger centers can give you some specific ideas for sizing fans.
2660  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Overt AsicBoost Released today? on: October 24, 2018, 03:08:06 PM
Yes, there is.

Non-AsicBoost blocks have a version number of 0x20000000. AsicBoost blocks may have different version numbers.

For example, block 546932 — mined by ViaBTC, which currently does not support AsicBoost — has a version number of 0x20000000. Block 544704, which is a known AsicBoost block, has a version number of 0x3fffe000.

Thanks for that.

I guess even with that information, you would still need another level of transparency to prove whether or not Bitmain had been using this firmware upgrade for any definitive amount of time. Just seeing blocks within their pools, or even the unknown pools can't be verified as the claim could be that it was a known asic boost miner.

With all this, I've been going back over the beginning of this thread and I admit to being lost.

IF Bitmain were to revise the physical logic inside the chips to use the Halongitosis's overt vs BM's covert AB protocols then yes they would be required to open all of their IP to the public. Don't see that happening.

How did this play into things, if the firmware upgrade works on all s9's does that mean the chips were already designed with this feature in mind?

Does this somehow violate the patent held by Halong?
