People here may need to steal to eat, but it's not the forums duty to provide for them.

To your original point if anyone is offended by what someone says on the forum because they carry the label of their crimes they can do a couple of things:
  • Grow thicker skin
  • Use the ignore button
  • Leave
  • Go back in time and not fuck it up

I doubt any of these people will remain unemployable, for one simple fact. If they don't have negative feedback someone will employ them. If they are a decent poster someone will employ them, hell we see shitposters get paid everyday. It doesn't matter why the post got picked up, it matters that they exist. So if they really want to be a part of the community they just need to keep showing up, accept their punishment and move on.
1742  Economy / Services / Re: Stitch is selling out (suchmoon's avatar for rent) - make an offer on: May 18, 2019, 08:07:31 PM
Good luck, and farewell Stitch.
I was going to say is there a reason you are not considering a Sig Campaign. There are a few that would easily cover the amount you're looking for per month, and are fairly reliable for a long-term campaign. I have no doubt that you are the kind of poster they'd be looking for, not all have a minimum number of posts required either.

Not going to lie, I have made the same offer to someone in case they had a project come up.

Lol I thought you were asking for a load. ~snip~

Woo it would have to be pretty desperate times   Grin

Glad you liked the post in general, as with most it comes from my own "oh shit moments".
1744  Other / Meta / Re: Temporary Ban shasan (unban Appeal) on: May 18, 2019, 04:53:34 PM
they were given the advice to request a few days to send PM's.
Where you found this?

Can  send PM to the forum member from this account or it is also ban evasion?
I've seen one member so far be given the weekend to sort out some of their PM's before serving their Ban. So I would take QS's suggestion and send one PM to theymos, and maybe include hilarious as they seem to be most active on administering these reduced sentences.

Quote
The purpose of an appeal is to find out why you were banned and to try and receive a reversal or reduced punishment.
Still no response from mod/admin regarding reduce of punishment. That's why it should not be locked.

The response is that you are not permabanned, and are acting extremely entitled in assuming that they will take the time to respond further. There are a lot of accounts out there that are trying to be reviewed the first time and it appears disingenuous that you appreciate the leniency by continuing to seek a further reduction.

Edited: broken quote formatting - and spelling
1745  Economy / Lending / [PSA] Another consideration with no-collateral loans on: May 18, 2019, 04:38:32 PM
I know, I know, they're an extremely risky venture to begin with. I have taken it upon myself to issue one, and recently found myself wondering something.  Note: there is nothing wrong with my loan.

There has been a massive wave of bans sweeping the forum. It's not just newbies or others you might have immediately turned down for a no-collateral loan. Some members have been established and had good track records with high paying Sig Campaigns. While there is no guarantee of a loan being repaid, it's generally assumed one would not toss away their reputation or a good source of income for a small loan.

If you have one of these loans out right now the best action is to PM the member to see if they can still access their account and send a PM. I did this and we had good communication, not I was not hounding them or bringing up anything other than their account access.

This normally would have qualified as a snippit in the pinned topic - but as this is a current issue I figured I'd give it more visibility.
1746  Other / Meta / Re: Temporary Ban shasan (unban Appeal) on: May 18, 2019, 04:24:14 PM
Its just happened a month earlier but global mod showed some mercy on him and only gave signature ban.Extremely lucky though.

Maybe his bump is for the lenders.

No this was from last year. The purpose of an appeal is to find out why you were banned and to try and receive a reversal or reduced punishment. That's already happened. People have already posted in the lending thread to notify anyone there, and they were given the advice to request a few days to send PM's.

Apart from that this thread should just be locked, as all actions have been taken. If they are legitimately asking for a less severe punishment than the gift already granted, then I'm at a loss.
1747  Other / Meta / Re: Posting guidelines for Computer Hardware section on: May 18, 2019, 04:07:58 PM
Added a second Escrow list I came across to the OP, so I figured why not give this a bump for those who haven't noticed it before.
Changed the title as well.
1748  Economy / Reputation / Re: Steamtyme - An attack helicopter clearing the air or a "Reputation Thread" on: May 18, 2019, 04:04:18 PM
Made some small additions to the OP to cover exclusions. In case anyone is curious why they were excluded by me. I hope that I stressed enough that this does not mean they are distrusted, that's a poor choice of words. I did this as I noticed someone I excluded has don't the same - I don't mind - it just crossed my mind they may have taken my exclusion the wrong way.

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah it just threw me for a loop. I imagine some kids might be looking for name changes down the road if they wind up going international.
1750  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Recommended bitcointalk escrow services on: May 18, 2019, 02:59:45 PM
Good day, whenever you get a chance you can add Darkstar_ to the list. Saves me adding him in as an addition when I direct people here for an escrow list. Here is the [ANN] for his service.

Thanks for continuing to maintain the list.

~snip~
I've gotten a few requests to escrow from people, so I figured I'd make an announcement thread for clarity and to help more people if needed, as I have a bit more free time now.
My fee for escrowing will be 0.0005BTC, or 0.7% of the transaction (whichever is greater). The transaction fee will also be paid by a party involved with the transaction, and is not included in my fee.

Funds will be held in a P2SH nested SegWit address, allowing for lower transaction fees than 'traditional' addresses.

I can directly hold any coin supported by TREZOR, the hardware wallet I will use when escrowing for security as well as Byteball. I *may* be willing to hold other coins for your trade, but it will vary. Please PM me for more info.

I will deal with almost any trade, as long as it is legal. I will not handle physical trades, or bitcointalk account sales. (subject to change)

1751  Other / Meta / Re: Any managers lost good posters due recent mass ban? on: May 18, 2019, 01:38:52 PM
Interesting. By the logic proposed here, known old alt accounts should get a red tag too since "the early days are different" reason is not acceptable.

There is no rule ever regarding Alt accounts. If you mean Alt accounts should have the same Bans imposed then I agree, anything less is Ban evasion. There is nothing stating that in the early days Plagiarism was acceptable, it was less of an issue and not monetized afaik.

Then, now they (unbanned users) started to ask for reduce sentences of their signature bans. It is a basic greedy instinct of human. We might see a new wave of suggestion topics on reduction of signature ban period. Tongue

We've already seen one, though it wasn't started by a banned user. I believe maybe because some of their chums received the reduced sentence and they still found it harsh.

I think at the very least state the reason why the account has been banned?  I always see posts asking why their old account has been banned from the forum (hence I assume that no one will state the reason of banning your account the moment you are banned?)

They do receive the basic message stating "plagiarism or spam". I've seen it mentioned by a Global Mod that it is to labor intensive to give everyone a reference to why they are banned. So for the ones who do create an appeal I've seen staff chime in with why they were banned. Don't forget a lot of those posts wondering why are people who know exactly what they did who try to play some sympathy card or give an improbable explanation.
1752  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Trusted members for escrow on: May 17, 2019, 11:45:21 PM
Here is a good list of Escrows. I also include Darkstar_ as a trusted member not on the list.

There was a thread recently about this I'll try and find it as it had others as well.

I've personally used OgNasty and Philipma1957 I'm just not sure if he still acts as escrow.
1753  Other / Meta / Re: [Appeal] 1-2years sig ban is too much for Good for the forum users on: May 17, 2019, 10:31:09 PM
First they have not been labeled "good for the forum" They've been labelled a "net positive" and there is a difference. At whatever point in time, these members plagiarized something and until now had gotten away with it. Some have done it more than once, luckily for the older members though they flew under the radar long enough to redeem themselves. However if the punishment is a slap on the wrist, then it's not a strong enough deterrent, it also has to be punitive enough to not make the permaban seem overly severe.

A minimum 1 year ban seems fair. I second suchmoon in regards to their priorities if they choose to become inactive. I think most of these members could find their way back from a deranking, but think that it wouldn't demontenize things enough unless you meant on top of the current punishment.
1754  Other / Meta / Re: Any managers lost good posters due recent mass ban? on: May 17, 2019, 07:25:19 PM
People will still complain. Seen a couple already (or alts/friends of users). They may have had the death sentence overturned but they've still got a year or two in jail and that's going to be a loss of earnings for a year as well which will be the only motivation many people who get caught plagiarising are here for. Many will still be happy to have access to their accounts but for the vast majority of people they're probably only here to earn so it's as good as or at least for the duration of their ban. I can't see many people who get a ban sticking around and posting much when they can't monetise doing so. Maybe a few posts here and there to collect activity and keep the account ticking over but more often than not I'd bet most accounts will become very inactive unless they have other business here.

Mind boggling but I've seen similar tantrums thrown in real life, generally resulting in a harsher penalty. Unfortunately I agree with you, and the ones who are here solely for the earnings will probably be back under some guise whether their account is jailed or dead. I am hoping that in the same way Cryptios is handling accounts they may catch a few ban evasions while their at it (I have no idea how difficult this would be). Sad fact is that a lot of these accounts might change hands over the next 2 years because they can be sold as "broken with potential to earn". I try to focus more on the brightspots though, that have received leniency and are back like nothing happened (minus signature) contributing to the community.
For me, it's just a mistake, they should verify when does the plagiarism happen. Those legendaries and heroes are already contributed a lot of threads that might help the future generation of this community. They will be forgotten forever because of a single mistake that happened at the beginning of your journey. Well, if that's the decision of the higher-ups, we can't do anything but follow and be a responsible member of this community.

That's what is happening. I believe at least one user received their temp ban and signature ban instantly as opposed to having to appeal. Then if you check around you can see users receiving their sentences reduced after review. It's actually working out rather well from what I can see.

1755  Other / Meta / Re: Temporary Ban shasan (unban Appeal) on: May 17, 2019, 07:04:14 PM
When someone get a temporarily ban, for how long is it??

It will vary so far I think I've seen them be 60 days (might have been a 30 day as well) and a 1 or 2 year Signature Ban. I think they can be for whatever time frame, they just want it to be long enough to still serve as a punitive measure to avoid anyone repeating and send a message to others.
1756  Other / Archival / Re: [ NO COLLATERAL ] * lending service * on: May 17, 2019, 06:59:18 PM
Maybe I'm reading this incorrectly but I see it this way.

4- They are tagging neutral trust to shoe there is an active loan - this being done upon accepting their request. I don't lend often but have done the same thing. I think it would be a good practice for lenders to do this, to help other lenders see if there is an active loan.

5- I'm assuming they mean if the user defaults they will issue negative feedback. They are free to do so for any reason, it's just people won't respect or value it if it seems frivolous. So they could leave it if someone asks for an extension without paying the accrued interest, but that's up to them.

Apart from that understand the Ban is meant to remove all functionality of the forum for you apart from reading. This account's sole purpose is to post in this thread only for your appeal. Since that is the case I don't understand why you placed a link here in the sig space.
1758  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Freebitcoin help on: May 17, 2019, 05:56:42 PM
You should move this to service discussion. Can you link the actual site you are using so people will be able to review all the details and help you. Without that information we can't tell what the requirements are or if this is just some copycat scam site.

Edit: Is this the service? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5111785.0. If so you may want to ask for assistance there
1759  Other / Meta / "Last Edited" Is it just me, or is there an issue? on: May 17, 2019, 05:25:41 PM
For some reason when I scroll over an edited post I'm not seeing the timestamp or by who. All I get is a little white rectangle, when I hover over it.

Not something I generally pay attention to, so it's entirely possible it's just me.

Edit for test. Yeah I'm all good now, not sure what the issue was. Probably something on my end.
1760  Other / Meta / Re: Division of Powers on: May 17, 2019, 04:55:02 PM
I've updated the OP again. Added the Admin role as it's come up a few times. I did leave a few "*" around for info I'm not positive on. Keep the info coming, if you notice something missing or that is incorrect.

Mods feel free to leave a quotable snippit of something you want people to know, I'll ad it to the OP.
