1761  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Mixed gear package. around 57-60th psu's rasp pi's avalon bitmain on: May 17, 2019, 04:21:27 PM
On a side note if you didn't notice the email. Blokforge is running a miner buy-back program, I'm sure the rates are low, but it's still something. It's a nice option if you can't find anyone here. Good luck with the sales
1762  Other / Meta / Re: Any managers lost good posters due recent mass ban? on: May 17, 2019, 02:22:14 PM
For one there are still a lot of members eligible for campaigns. I'm not sure on the numbers but this cleaning house might be beneficial to all those who didn't break the rules. There are now more spots available for campaigns, maybe now instead of the "quickest to apply for a job"  there will be a longer application period and higher quality - I'd love to have no Sig spam to report but doubt it will get there.

I have no idea how managers earn their wage, but if it has anything to do with just making sure you've filled the spots then that was the issue; not users being banned. So it just means put in some effort and find quality participants. If you think there aren't enough raise the payment to attract members... you now like competition in the market.

ChipMixer campaign even has not opened up a single new slot with ban of cellard. If campaigns expand original ranks from Legendary to Senior member ranks (for example) to lower ranks, like Full member or even Member ranks, there might occur another new trend.
Character assasination aims at higher ranks to dig deeply in the past in order to find their mistakes and report them. Everyone can make mistakes when we are newbies, so if they dig deeply, they might find some. To be honest with you all, I don't think it should be a trend at any odds.

The CM campaign is already over capacity, and has been for a while as they expanded the list to allow for some special applications overtime. They are also a bad example to compare other campaigns with, they are the longest running I believe and most weeks out of the year the highest paying, hence the rank requirements - which earn a flat rate regardless of actual rank.

Most other campaigns do accept as low as member, it's been a while since I've checked. A lot of those campaigns though being poorly managed were bringing these plagiarists and spammers here to earn. Not saying we shouldn't allow lower ranks in but managers need to be more diligent. Like "hilarious" mentions theymos has mentioned "Sigs" could disappear one day, theymos has stated he finds them distasteful. So it's a case of people need to be doing their part to not abuse a system, and ensure we try and ensure the quality of the forum, without forcing Admins to step in with sweeping policy changes.

Sorry, which campaign manager are you again? If you feel like certain people are worthy of hiring then hire them for something else. Plenty of job opportunities here other than merely posting. Honestly, I'm not sure what we can do here because we're damned if we do and we're damned if we don't. We changed the rule to give people a second chance and people are still complaining. Maybe if the people who have sig bans stick around and contribute actively and continue to receive merit then we can consider reducing the sig ban, but the fact that we've even started giving people second chances should be applauded because prior to this it was a death sentence for life. We accepted that was harsh in certain cases and have relaxed the rule. I really wish people just weren't so lazy and entitled that they decided to copy and paste in the first place and then none of this would need to have happened in the first place. People should see signature campaigns as the blessing that they are because there's going to be a whole lot of people who miss them if we ever ban signature campaigns outright and that's certainly always an option and one theymos has considered.

I don't think most people have an issue with this. I'd argue most of the members who receive the reduced punishment, will happily accept this. I'm interested to see how many people do continue to post and remain active, even if it's at a reduced rate, these are the people I want to see stick around. Like you said this was a huge step forward in having a sliding scale of appropriate punishment, what are the odds any of these members would be here at all if they hadn't flown under the radar a few years back.
1763  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: I'm against cloud miners. My arguments on: May 17, 2019, 02:49:57 AM
Good synopsis of what I figured cloud mining to be--and I don't know a whole lot about it, but everything I've read on this forum has been negative.  ~snip~
It's not the first time I've given a similar spiel, sure it won't be the last. I honestly see some of these offers from the established providers giving the same opportunity that traders have. Instead of watching the markets and whatever indicators tip people off, you can watch hardware releases and the Difficulty adjustments. The people who will win this way will be few and far between.
Quote

I get that it's not profitable to mine from home anymore, even if you join a pool and have access to cheap electricity.  It would take quite a long time to break even on your original investment in mining hardware, that's my understanding.  But at least mining solo or in a pool would be a fun and educational thing to do, whereas cloud mining is very risky and probably stressful.
Depends on the home miner and their situation. There are work arounds for most people to be at least a little profitable, but there are some who simply can't mine for profit. Recouping the gear purchases can be tough, it's reliability and longevity that are key here. If you weren't razor thin on margins you can hope to run gear for years until it finally becomes obsolete or unprofitable, ideally earning more BTC than you put in. That or sell it when someone is still willing to buy it. You nailed it on the other benefit of learning and the doing, it can be equal parts rewarding and frustrating but I've learned a ton that I wouldn't have otherwise thought to.
1764  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Pangolin Whatsminer M10 - 33TH at 2145W on: May 16, 2019, 02:43:26 PM
Not going to lie I'm a little irritated at the troubleshooting for Whatsminer's. Yang was helpful but they seem extremely limited in what they will try and options. It seems update the FW is the first place they start and sort of where it ends - we went through 4 I believe yesterday all newer, and performed worse. After that it was a guess that it's probably a PSU. This is all based on just the board temps showing up, not any additional digging in the logs. To top it off they say my original FW version never existed - but provided me with a close date stamp, so I'll try loading it tonight.

In the end I'll probably just never run that unit in LP mode - it hits 30.8 in normal mode. It all comes down to do I want to foot the bill and downtime to send the PSU back and hope that they were correct for warranty, or pay for 1 out of pocket - which I'm not interested in doing. I may order one of those bridges to see if that was the issue as it seems to have been a weak point in assembly, it's a 10$ hit and they could probably throw it in with my M20 demo. I might try some of those FW versions on the other models once my Power meter is constructed to see if there is any advantage  - I did note that they must be coming out with a liquid cooling option as it had a place on the miner status with 2 FW versions. I'll check the file names tonight and drop the FW versions I saw.

Edit:

So from the files left here are the FW versions they have out and will try. I honestly don't know where to get them from apart from asking them in Telegram. I never really looked into it until they figured that would fix the issue. - They may show in your overview with a .1 at the end when updated.

20190404.18   20190318.12   20190114.15

So for the 3 above it was late and I was just watching it all, I believe only 2 of these showed the "status column" for liquid cooling. There was also 3 errors on startup; I can't recall if this was on all 3 versions or the same 2. Finally they all hashed at 27-28 TH/S normal mode.

20181129.12 This one they gave me for rolling back. results are similar to the original so far 30.7 TH on normal.
20181127.17 My original 2 of my miners still have this version.
1765  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] ChipMixer Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ | Up to 0.0375 BTC/w on: May 16, 2019, 02:06:15 PM
This is very lenient considering most plagiarism cases received a permanent ban end of story. Considering 12 months from now they can join a Sig campaign again, and only have to take 60 days off.

It's a nice balance between leniency and punishment to still send a clear message. Especially because it will become clear not everyone will get this option.
1766  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Whatsminer M20 is announced and available for pre-order on: May 16, 2019, 01:16:10 PM
That's good to hear. They didn't sound sure the miners would ship by the 20th when I was chatting with them. Kinda wiped wasted 2 hours troubleshooting the limpy m10 last night, via telegram it was pretty much pointless.
1767  Other / Meta / Re: Vod is abusing his merit source position to give 50 merit to his supporters on: May 16, 2019, 12:57:30 PM
Wasn't condemning you. Like I said it's been a long time and having gone back can see why I was confused.

It was your removal from DT due to the feedback left. Seems at the time people had a much lower threshold for what they deemed appropriate use of DT feedback. At the time I may have equated that with "staff".

I also haven't looked back to confirm if Armis was a scammer, just noticed some feedback to that effect which probably gave me the impression the first time.
1768  Other / Meta / Re: Vod is abusing his merit source position to give 50 merit to his supporters on: May 16, 2019, 03:59:23 AM
Edit: Still a much worthy member in this forum tho than you actually do

I will say this much as I wound up looking into Techshares feedback history one weekend as I fell down the bitcointalk rabbit hole. He's been a longtime member on the forum once on staff I believe, and conducts quite a bit of Marketplace business. You don't have to agree with him to note there have been a lot of contributions.

I'd have to read more but iirc, it could be argued he made a mistake in going a bit far to catch a scammer.

I bring this up because I don't really understand why people want to make it personal here. You can easily interact and disagree with people, without it, or just ignore and move on.
1769  Other / Meta / Re: [ban appeal] cellard on: May 16, 2019, 03:39:23 AM
Hey just thought I'd drop this here from the Chipmixer thread.

~snip~
Plagiarism. It'll probably get changed to a sig ban though since the post that was reported was from 2014 and he seems to be a half-decent poster. I'll look into it later.

This was in reference to you. Good luck, at least it sounds like you'll be able to come back with your account. Not sure how long it will take.
1770  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitdeer - Experiences? on: May 16, 2019, 03:29:52 AM
lol, man another great example of why punctuation works. That and proper spelling. To clarify I have never bough tone of these contracts or deals. I usually advise people against them as well, as most people haven't done their homework.

I have definitely considered some of the shorter term offers they had  few months ago, ultimately I just opted out.

Mmmm love the smell of fresh cracked block in the morning. Glad you're on top of posting here, something keeps going wonky and i don't get my blockbot notification.

And look at those transaction fees  Grin
1772  Other / Meta / Re: Division of Powers on: May 15, 2019, 02:27:32 PM
Quoted both and added to OP. Let me know if you have an issue with it being trimmed. Maybe we'll see all Mods post something they'd like quoted they wish people knew.

1773  Other / Meta / Re: Division of Powers on: May 15, 2019, 01:33:25 PM
Pretty sure staff is anyone who is a moderator. Likely one of the options for a title.

I could add something for admins, "Godlike ability within this realm" apart from that I was more interested in the roles that would have less definition grouped together.

I'm on mobile if it seems wanted/needed i'll update it tonight.

See below, that makes total sense i never really paid attention to it, just noticed that moderators showed as staff sometimes.
1774  Other / Meta / Re: Division of Powers on: May 15, 2019, 12:17:25 PM
Nope, mods can not ban users. But we can request it, and the global mods/admin do it... or not Smiley.
But mods have the ability to nuke (delete all posts and ban) newbies under certain conditions.

Thanks for the clarification, I wasn't sure what level of authority you had for Bans on your boards. I've updated that section to reflect this.

~snip~
Edit:>
The patrollers can handle newbies all-over the forum, the local mods can do it only in their local boards, global mods can ban everyone despite the rank, but I guess only Theymos and Cyrus can Nuke a Legendary, in other words nuking higher ranked members.
~snip~

Thanks for clearing that up I'll add them in. That makes me curious have they ever nuked a Legendary, seems unlikely. They tend to leave most content visible despite a user being banned.
1775  Other / Meta / Re: Division of Powers on: May 15, 2019, 11:17:40 AM
Thanks for that. So Patrollers are moderators that can apply moderation across all boards? I'm guessing it's restricted by rank of the "offender" and that's the difference between them and Global Mods. I've heard of them but never found to much info regarding them so I'm in the dark there.
1776  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Pangolinminer.com a MicroBT distributor and seller of Hard Goods on: May 15, 2019, 11:13:36 AM
Simply put they are lying and likely a scam. The M20S hasn't been released yet, there are some Demo's that are making the rounds at trade shows and some set to ship in a week or so. That's it.

It seems popular of these scammers to try and copy whatsminer as the miner carries that name. You can find a thread about that whatsminer.net here. You may also want to check out the Current list of Competitive Hardware it covers current gear and it's distribution chains.
1777  Other / Meta / Division of Powers on: May 15, 2019, 11:08:39 AM
I know that I don't have all the details and will add and polish as time and information becomes available, but thought I'd start with what I think I know. There have been some changes recently in what powers/authority have been granted to Global Moderators and Contractors. It might be nice to get a clear picture of what how things are functioning at this time.

Admin:
- God-like abilities within the forum. Can modify/remove any and all data or information within the forum, this includes all abilities listed below.
- Handle payments and operation of Forum Staff, and service providers
- Plan for and sustain operations of the forum

Global Moderators:
- Can apply moderation to any board
- Can Ban users
- Can receive and respond to reported PM's
- Now have the ability to apply a Signature Ban as opposed to a standard account ban

Moderators:
- Can apply moderation to the boards they are assigned
- Have the ability to Nuke some newbie accounts.
- Need to request Bans, Global mods or Admins have the final say.

Cryptios:
-Main purpose is to investigate and accomplish account recoveries.
-They also have the ability to Lock accounts, if they believe it to be compromised.
-I believe they also have the same abilities as Patrollers.

Patrollers:
- Ability to moderate Newbies across all boards.
- Can nuke some newbie accounts.

Stipulations for Mods to have the ability to nuke a Newbie account -
Regular mods can ban Newbies if they haven't been whitelisted by another mod, don't have Copper membership (IIRC), and have less than 150 posts or less than 30 posts if they have earned at least 1 merit.

Perhaps this is as good a place as any to also remind users that staff/mods are ALSO regular users.  We have opinions and ideas the same as other regular users, some are good ideas and opinions and some not so good. Some of us can be a little cunty some are nice all the time.  Most of us have different levels of participation and knowledge about the forum and blockchain tech.

IOW staff are not automatically experts in anything  Cool

And I would add that we are not Bitcoin's customer service. ~snip~

It's the hilarious how some people think there's a customer service for everything and go from "please sir, i'll do anything" to "i'll find you and..." when they don't get what they want.
1778  Other / Meta / Re: New account after getting banned on: May 15, 2019, 10:25:01 AM
It's pretty self explanatory. No posting other than to create your ban appeal thread, and post within that. Any Pm's or posts outside that Ban appeal thread in Meta is Ban Evasion. I'm hoping we see more cases of this found in the coming months with Cryptios working the forum.
1779  Other / Meta / Re: The fastest UNBAN for plagiarism on: May 15, 2019, 10:11:21 AM
Yes they have opened 79 scam accusations. None of us can decide who deserves the benefit of a reduced punishment that's for Admin's ... maybe Global Mods get a say I have no idea. The best course of action is to just support that user in their ban appeal thread. There is also the fact that a lot of information is available behind the scenes that we are not aware of.

Regardless of how many users receive a reduced punishment, it's a step in the right direction for the right users.

Several Russian-speaking users who have merits and recommendations have asked for forgiveness. Their requests are ignored. And this user is not even banned for plagiarism. Explain to me the principle of your justice?

Who they are or where they come from has no bearing on the decision. It's if they are deemed to be a net positive to the forum, and I imagine it takes a decent contribution to overcome plagiarism, especially if it was motivated by money.
1780  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Current List of Competitive Hardware - April 2019 on: May 15, 2019, 08:49:46 AM
Micro BT is announcing 4 Whatsminers Sunday the 19th, M20, M20S, M21 and M21S. May want to watch for that for competitive hardware ~snipped and formatted~

I'll add them to the list the same as the other gear once it's confirmed in the wild. I'm expecting what I believe will be branded an M20S ordered as a demo, within the next 2 weeks - maybe. The lead time was about 6 weeks at time of ordering, but may stretch a bit, I've never gone longer than that and couldn't imagine how hard the waiting game would be. They are however one of the few units that don't come with a hard 240 V cap.

Searing - Yeah I've been fortunate to live in an area that leaves me very well positioned for mining. It's tough for some out there, keep looking for opportunities, if your Winters are cold you may want to consider becoming a seasonal miner, only. I see this as a likely end result for a lot of home miners down the road.
