FREE Tipster Competition (sponsored by directbet.eu)

Important announcements and updates:
(This space will be used for updates and announcements during the competition)

Important changes in the rules:

- Minimum bankroll is now 100mBTC (rule 4 in Entries section)
- Minimum bet stake is now 1% of your current bankroll (rule 4.1 in Betting Rules section)
- To qualify for X7 PRIZES total bets must be at least 1 BTC or equivalent (3M DOGE +, 100 LTC +, 200 DAS

DOES THIS X7 PRIZE APPLY TO US WITH A BANNK ROLL OF 100mBTC provided we get a total of 1 BTC IN BETS

I'm afraid not. In order for participants to receive the x7 prizes, they need to fulfill a couple of conditions: declare a starting bankroll of at least 1 BTC (as stated in rule 4.1 of the Entries section), and then, actually bet 1 BTC or more during the competition.

1490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What makes people so addicted to gambling? on: October 31, 2015, 05:48:04 PM
What makes people so addicted to gambling?

Do you know anyone who is heavily into gambling?

i am Curious to know the different views about this above questions

People are getting addicted towards gambling in the hope of winning some big amount, some people also play because they think that its a short cut to make the money and get rich quickly.

I think its the mid-set of the people that makes them addicted to gambling.Maybe at times its the social conditions but most of the time I think its urge to earn more money in less time.

Several users here have mentioned money as an incentive, or rather, even the objective for gamblers - and at a glance, this might seem true.

But, imagine an Utopian society, where money is no longer in use, your basic needs are all taken care of, and any additional material interests can just be printed in the nearest 3D printer (lets assume, for the sake of argument, this is all possible, for everyone, with no constraints on energy / resources / whatever); my question is: would gambling, and more generally, risk taking behavior, disappear? Or would it just take other forms, now that you can gain no material advantage from it?

I'd bet on the latter - perhaps the origin of this behavior is rooted in a time where scarcity was far more prevalent than it is today, and so, risk taking was far more rewarding (and widespread), but then, I guess this also means that it goes beyond any material gains one can get (at least, for those of us alive today).
1491  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you believe in aliens? on: October 31, 2015, 05:00:40 PM
I've been watching for a couple of months until now on History TV that Segment Ancient Aliens. I believe in them but watching all the documentary in there makes me believe even more.

There is this fine line amongst us human that refuses to cross that is why most people don't believe in it. There is every possible proof that they do exist but still they refuses to accept what is true.

You really shouldn't take Ancient Aliens seriously - several of the claims they make are outright lies, and a lot of the rest is merely their own interpretation (often based on a distortion, or omission, of the facts).

This should be far more informative: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9w-i5oZqaQ ("Ancient Aliens Debunked - (full movie) HD", 3h10m44s) - it goes through several of the claims Ancient Aliens makes, and presents what evidence there really is in support of it, and against it (their site, if you prefer to see this in text, is: http://ancientaliensdebunked.com).
1492  Economy / Speculation / Re: $350 is the new barrier? on: October 31, 2015, 04:17:02 PM
In my opinion, either $350 or $400 is the new barrier, depending on how the hodlers feel. I think it is clear that this surge past $300 has established that price as the new floor going forward, now we just need to see where everyone needs to cash out. $350 is not nearly as significant a number as $300 or $400, so we might see $400 as the actual barrier (granted we may not reach the barrier still).

I'm not as optimistic (though not really pessimistic either, and I will still keep on holding as much as I can, whenever I can): despite a number of good news, the uptrend seems to have lost most of its steam, so I expect the price to now start dropping a bit in the next few weeks (at least down to $280; possibly a little below), as speculators start to take hold again. After that, we'll perhaps be stuck between $280 and $320 for a couple of months, unless some surprising news hits.
1493  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: In-game purchases using bitcoin on: October 31, 2015, 03:48:10 PM
That was the way back in the old days, but having people to buy the game plus offer in-game items for sale is much more profitable. Just look as CSGO, you pay to get the game then pay more to get cool stuff and bonuses. Its the perfect business model.

ahh, but you are mixing 2 things and models:

1* core game is free (dota2) or paid (csgo) and you are paying only for skins, models and "cool stuff" - so for VISUAL stuff and not real in-game advantage.
2* core game is free or paid and you are paying for "something", what gives you REAL advantage over other players. (you can reset cool-down, buy some building/sword with extra power, you don't need to grind..etc etc) - this model is known as pay2win

first concept is absolutely fine, because even non-paying players have same starting line as paying ones. second one is shitty, because if you are not paying, you will loose. sooner or later. got my point now?

Overall, I agree with that distinction and, whenever possible, avoid the second type of games for the very reason you put forward.

However, I'm not sure the games that allow you to avoid the grinding elements are necessarily giving players that much of an unfair advantage: I mean, it's certainly a tangible advantage, as opposed to a token reward, like "cool looking stuff" would be, and largely depends on the implementation but, if done properly and within sensible limits, it doesn't necessarily break the game; rather, it can just spare players the time that they may otherwise not have to put into those portions of the game, and monetize it for the developers. That can be easily abused, of course, if players can just buy the "super-end-of-game gear", but otherwise, it can be a sensible compromise, I think.
1494  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Modern art mistaken for rubbish rebuilt in Italy on: October 31, 2015, 03:25:33 PM
Well it does not look like an art piece but that's not that much important.
Art's purpose is to stimulate. It does not need to be likeable.

Well, you could have a dump on a piece of cardboard and present that as art. It would stimulate people for sure but I´m not sure about the purpose of that stimulation. I doubt that it´d elevate the spirit much.
I understand what you mean but yeah it is even true for dump. You don't even need to present it as art.
Art may irritate, it is new so-called modern art is like that. Purpose becomes irritation so.

Yes, but there is an important distinction to make here: for me, at least, the source of the irritation isn't the "dump" itself, and whatever feelings it may inspire (that is, the message the "artist" meant to transmit); the source of the irritation is the misguided notion that the "dump" is art (that the "artist" was unable to find an intelligent way to convey the message - you know, something that couldn't be replicated just as effectively by a chimp).
1495  Economy / Gambling / Re: try your chess skills for bitcoin on: October 31, 2015, 02:25:57 PM
Yes, this will be superb, Those who wants to feel the real excitement of this game and also wants to earn some money can go for such betting. Playing with bot and playing with human will be different things and it will attract more people.
i would also support this. i woudnlt call myself extremely good at chess. but the idea that your win chance depends on your skill is really cool. looking forward to seeing someone develop this.

Well, this thread is proof of one such attempt, and if you try visiting the site, you will see the result - it's already offline.

The problem is, there is no way to tell whether or not someone is cheating in online chess; so, why would anyone want to bet their BTC in a match against (potentially) a bot? In fact, if you read the vast majority of the replies to this thread, that's exactly what is consistently pointed out: "it's a nice idea, but there is no way to make it work" (not for chess, anyway).

Can anyone suggest me a job which pays in Bitcoin. If any know, post here or PM me. Thanks.  Smiley

Besides the options already suggested, you can also take a look at the Services section of the forum (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=52.0); in there, you will often find small and large job openings (almost always paying in BTC), as well as threads from users offering their skills for BTC - I suppose you can also take this last route, explaining what your looking for, what experience you have, and hopefully, showing samples of previous work in the area.
1497  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Modern art mistaken for rubbish rebuilt in Italy on: October 30, 2015, 04:43:16 PM
........ >_>   *rips up all his practice drawings of characters and throws a pile of dirt on a painting to sell as 'art' then takes it to a gallery*

I'm not fucking surprised in the slightest, these people will claim anything is art especially if they can sell it to idiots for a few thousand without actually having put any effort into it.

Without putting any effort into it, you say? Do you think it's easy to empty that many bottles of champagne? Tongue

I'm somewhat unconvinced this was an accident; I'm sure the exposition would have had visible information on what was being displayed and where, and a space properly set for it. Further, who would let just about anyone in to work without proper guidance and supervision, when there could be items worth thousands or maybe millions of dollars on display?

On the other hand, if this was done on purpose by the museum/"artists", perhaps in an effort to promote the work, it also carries with it quite a bit of bad publicity for the museum.
1498  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: II FREE Tipster Competition -sponsored by DirectBet- on: October 29, 2015, 01:25:39 PM
Hi. this competition is great but also i think its not FAIR ENOUGH ! Huh If you look at the leader boards table you can see participants with smaller bankrolls are at the top of standing. but why? because of a simple reason! they can take more RISKS due to their smaller bankroll! they place their bets with little money continuously and Waiting for a chance! So to have a fair competition i think must be a MINIMUM LIMIT for bankrolls. for example 100 mbtc or 50 mbtc Or any other reasonable amount. good luck  Smiley

The only reason why we don't have a minimum bankroll is to allow anyone to enter. We rewarded those who took a bigger risk with a large bankroll by giving them better prizes and freebets.
I understand what you are saying, an we will take that into consideration, but you must really understand that what you can do with a small bank you can do with a big one. So what really should be happening is that the smaller banks should be thinking, maybe I can trust my bets and use a bigger one to increase my profit next time.

Imagine if sanerin played with 1 BTC bankroll, and made exactly the same bets. His ROI% would be the same, and his profit would be really good. So in my opinion players should be able to trust their skill.
Anyway like I said, we will take your opinion into consideration.

Thanks for your consideration dear FrueGreads but as i said the difference between those who have smaller bankrolls and some ones with large bankrolls is COURAGE IN BETTING ! As a rule in betting, the less money the more daring Smiley So I think in order to eliminate this issue one way is PUTTING LIMITS for bankrolls.

I can't say I disagree with you, but I certainly don't like the solution you are proposing - personally (and mind you, the decision won't be up to me; at most, I will be asked my opinion on it so, here it is in advance, I guess Tongue), I feel that we should be aiming for a set of rules that make the competition interfere as little as possible with what the participants would normally be doing without any additional incentives. The most I would deviate from this would be to promote consistent results whenever possible (by reducing the effect luck has), and to encourage more users to join the competition (it won't be interesting, or last very long, otherwise).

With that in mind, I believe participants should enter with whatever bankroll they feel comfortable with and, if someone with a very low starting bankroll ends up winning the competition, so be it - the alternative as you propose it, it seems to me, would be to discourage users joining, and force others (potentially the majority) to play with a bankroll they don't feel comfortable with, and probably wouldn't be using in any other circumstances. Further, exaggerated risk taking wouldn't really disappear; it would be relegated to those who feel the minimum mandatory bankroll is small enough for them (effectively rewarding those with more BTC to spend).

Now, this doesn't mean the rules, as they are now, are perfect, or set in stone, of course; several changes have been made so far and, this competition continuing for any length of time in the future, many more will be made, I'm sure. To this end, and repeating what FrueGreads already stated, we will take every opinion and idea participants share with us into consideration - which is only fair, I guess, since it is you all who will have to follow the rules - but I hope they will move things in the direction of promoting more participation, and not less.
1499  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Video: Milgram's Obedience to Authority Experiment on: October 27, 2015, 03:32:30 PM
Thank you government funded education system, you've done such a great job at teaching children how to forget moral inhibitions as long as somebody else wears a "suit of honor" and dictates your actions for you...

I'm not sure your mistrust of government funded education is that well placed (at least in this particular case). I don't really know the details, to be honest, but I'm under the impression that these experiments were conducted in several different countries, all throughout the world, since it was first devised half a century ago, with consistent results - which I assume one wouldn't expect, for different societies, at different points in time, if the education system alone was to blame.

That isn't to say education doesn't play a part, of course; the teach to test and find a job, any job, attitude present in many countries is harmful enough in its own right (though a government funded education system doesn't necessarily have to follow that format), but other aspects of society can't be ignored, and may end up playing a larger role here (say, where most people spend the majority of their time: their jobs).

At any rate, whatever the reason behind it may be, the results are certainly scary.
1500  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Eurozone crosses Rubicon as Portugal's anti-euro Left banned from power on: October 27, 2015, 02:58:38 PM
^^^^ Oh I get it. It is the same old lame excuses. When the United States and its vassal states such as the United Kingdom and Germany invades a country, it is to bring democracy and peace. When Russia or anyone else does the same, it is blatant aggression of a bully against the defenseless minnows. Anibal Cavaco Silva is a dictator, whether you like it or not.

Come on, bryant.coleman... is he incompetent? Sure. Corrupt? Very likely. Borderline senile? Probably. But a dictator? And comparable to Saddam Hussein, Muammar Gaddhafi, and Kim Jong Un, no less? Roll Eyes

Let me set this straight: it is the president's job (set in the country's constitution) to appoint who will be given the chance to form a government. This isn't an extraordinary measure he took; it's his job. Further, the party he appointed did win the election - it didn't win the majority in parliament but, as he goes on to state in his speech, that wouldn't really be the first time. So, it is now the parliament's job to either work with the minority government, or vote them out of office (which they are fully expected to do), and either the opposition will then take power, or a temporary (practically powerless) government will be set up until the time new elections can take place.

Now, don't get me wrong: I don't like the guy; I don't agree with his decision; and I think he is using his power to retain a political party in power (with whom he is affiliated) which is pursuing policies I disagree with, and believe to be harmful. But, please, stop with the hyperbole; there is enough to criticize already without the nonsense, which just distracts from the real issues.
