hmmm so wahts the best way to turn my paypal into btc?

Well, depending on where you live, a good option might be trading through Localbitcoins (https://localbitcoins.com) - however, I expect the btc prices there to be quite higher than you'd find elsewhere (at least if you're buying using Paypal).
1762  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: WTB BTC with paypal (Have $140usd) on: May 30, 2015, 02:55:25 AM
newb here
im fine with hold times,

looking to buy $140 usd worth of BTC

can go first, must be repped user.

Considering Paypal transactions can be reversed (up to 180 days after?), and Bitcoin transactions can't, you're not likely to find anyone willing to do this trade. At any rate, if you do find someone around here actually willing to do it, make sure to use escrow.
1763  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu demands ‘up to $45 bn’ in US military aid on: May 30, 2015, 02:37:40 AM
As long as the Jewish voting bloc remains stong in the United States, the Israelis will continue to leach off their  American allies. Although they are just 2% of the population, the Jewish vote is very crucial in swing states such as Florida. That said, the $4.5 billion aid mentioned here amounts to less than 1% of the American defence budget, which is hovering at $600 billion per year.

Of course it's not insignificant where the "aid" money is going, but I can't help seeing this as more of a subsidy for US weapons manufacturers, than anything else - as the article puts it, the majority of that money, 70%, is to be spent buying US military hardware. And it should go without saying that, this is a great incentive for other countries in the region to also spend more of their money on (likely American) military hardware, generating even more profit.
1764  Other / Off-topic / Re: Your top five video games ever on: May 30, 2015, 01:16:49 AM
Hmm, my favorite, top 5 games, are possibly the following (also, the games I've spent the most time playing):

1. Space Empires V
2. Civilization III / IV
3. Master of Orion II
4. Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri
5. Final Fantasy VI
1765  Economy / Lending / Re: .01BTC, suggest a collateral? (Resolved!) on: May 29, 2015, 01:29:23 AM
Where is the love? I'll lend it to you, but pay it back. Or we will hunt you down. Smiley

Hunt down the owner of a Newbie account for 0.01 btc? That's obviously not happening. Tongue

Also, be careful when lending without securing collateral first; some users have in the past given (and perhaps, still do give) negative trust for that as well - the reasoning for it being something along the lines of: you're not only likely to get scammed yourself, but you're also inviting other scammers to show up, and start asking for the same, no collateral, conditions.
1766  Economy / Lending / Re: .01BTC, suggest a collateral? on: May 29, 2015, 12:42:32 AM
Hey I need .01 BTC, I don't know what to offer as a collateral since it's only like 2 dollars. I will be able to pay it back, even .02BTC back by tomorrow night. If you can think of something I can easily offer as collateral it's yours! I promise I'm not a scammer, I wouldn't go through the trouble for .01BTC

No offense funkymonk, but even if you wouldn't scam for 0.01, others have in the past; so it's best if you can provide collateral, as josephno1 suggested. Also, 0.01 btc might not be a lot, but nothing prevents someone dedicated enough to create several threads, with different accounts, in order to collect a lot more, a few bits at a time.
1767  Other / Off-topic / Re: Fun facts on: May 28, 2015, 11:32:39 PM
I dunno if it is true or not, but my astronomer friends says it can rain diamonds on Jupiter and Saturn.

Are you sure they didn't say that about the Ice Giants instead, Uranus and Neptune? As it happens, I just finished seeing the latest Crash Course Astronomy video that came out today, where they mention that phenomenon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hIwD17Crko ("Uranus & Neptune: Crash Course Astronomy #19", 12m18s). Studies apparently show that the pressure inside these planets can break up methane molecules, and force the carbon atoms into diamond crystals - maybe enough to form an ocean of liquid diamond at the bottom of the mantle.

EDIT: then again, it seems something similar might also be happening in the Gas Giants, Jupiter and Saturn: http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-24477667. Smiley

No it's not possible. That feedback is to warn others that the member was a proven scammer before the transition to the current trust system. (Issued by a administrator controlled account)
What if i bought the account? will they remove it?

Why would you buy an account that has red rep?

Well, probably because of the lower price for a (I assume) high ranking account, with the expectation of being able to remove the negative trust.

No it's not possible. That feedback is to warn others that the member was a proven scammer before the transition to the current trust system. (Issued by a administrator controlled account)
What if i bought the account? will they remove it?
Nope not even then. The problem is that account sales can be faked, so that would again mean that the scammer could essentially just sell the account to himself.
I can provide proof, pm's can be showm, ip addresses can be checked and they can also check for any prior interaction between the addresses and the forum ip addresses

All of those things can be faked, or otherwise bypassed - I don't really think there is any way to prove the account changed hands.

Hi Mitchełł (or anyone else of the staff that edits the first post of this topic),

I think you have missed my previous post over here: [...]

Well, the OP was last updated May 6, and your post is from May 18; so, no surprise there. Tongue

You can see the last time Mitchełł updated the thread directly in the title: "Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 06-May-2015]"

1771  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTS] Hero Member. High quality account !!! on: May 28, 2015, 08:44:48 PM
A lot of accounts have higher trust rating now, how many different positive trust feedbacks does it have? How long ago can you sign a message from associated with this account as you have not stated and that is a big deal. I have to give you a heads up for a newly Hero account you are not getting nowhere near 3btc! Sorry to break it to you, you will be very very lucky to get 1btc  Shocked

Thank you for your answer  Smiley

Honestly I'm not very skilled in cryptography, how can I sign a message and why it's so important?

Signing a message shows that it is in fact your account, and not just hacked or otherwise stolen. But you really should reconsider selling this account; the positive trust is likely to be used in scams - there aren't many reasons for someone to bother paying more otherwise. Alternatively, consider placing a neutral trust warning in the account, advising users the account was transferred to someone else; this will, of course, lower your profits somewhat but, as blumangroup mentioned, you aren't going to get anywhere near the amount you're asking anyway.

Oh I have. I just got laughed at and accused of being paranoid when they noticed I've stuck a tiny square of sticky tape over my phone front facing camera.
I couldn't stand that thing looking at me all the time.

Sadly, some people won't ever care about any of this until it directly affects their life, or the lives of those close to them (and even then...). Incidentally, how are your "hacking" skills, and how willing are you to lose friends, in order to show them the sort of things that can be done? Wink
1774  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A UK resident? If so, prepare your anus. on: May 27, 2015, 10:44:17 PM
Anyone who had concern with his or hers privacy has already left the United Kingdom, and have settled in other English-speaking nations such as Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Most of those remaining are either low-IQ people, or recent immigrants from countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are unlikely to oppose this measure.

I wouldn't really hold Australia, or New Zealand (or any Western nation at this point), as much of an example in terms of protection of privacy - they seem to be moving in the same direction: http://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2015/mar/26/mandatory-data-retention-becomes-law-as-coalition-and-labor-combine, http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-08-21/new-zealand-passes-spy-bill/4903500. In fact, much of this is just their attempts at legalizing what has been happening behind the scenes for quite some time now.

This is horrible. I always suspected the UK to be in a similar situation as the USA. I can't believe their nonsense. This breach of privacy doesn't do anything.
Knowing what couples text each other will definitely help your "terrorist" fight.

Luckily there is ProtonMail for emails and I'm still waiting for a means of encrypted communication for smartphones (since Heml unfortunately got cancelled).

Oh, UK is far worse than US. Snowdon told us that ages ago.
I use SMSsecure for my text messages.
https://smssecure.org/
Got my wife setup on it as well. What I text my wife is completely private and should stay that way.
I've tried to encourage others to use it, but I just get the usual brainwashed response "if I ain't doing nothing wrong, I ain't got nothing to hide."
It's very frustrating.

1775  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: May 27, 2015, 10:11:44 PM
[...] I actually saw something weird 3 times yet I don't say I sighted a UFO like the majority do. I've witnessed bright lights (comparable to majority of stars) 3 times at night(different nights, I think within a 12 month period). They usually move fairly quickly, they don't blink (rules out airplanes) and they disappear after moving some distance. There were no reports of satellites or anything in the sky in any of the nights. They moved too slowly/lasted too long to be mistaken for a falling star (I've seen these, so I wouldn't make such a mistake).
Should I call in my "UFO sightings" like the majority do? Maybe I've been abducted too and they ran experiments and erased my memory? Roll Eyes [...]

Well, if you don't know what those were, then, from your perspective, those were in fact UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) - that, by itself, carries no further information, other than stating you don't know what it was that you saw. The problem comes only when people jump from "I saw a UFO" to "so it was aliens", with no further evidence. Smiley
1776  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: May 27, 2015, 09:05:58 PM
[...]

I think it's hilarious that "they" can't prove the Earth is a sphere LOL. Try Googling pictures of Earth from space, all the photographs showing Earth as a globe are as fake as the Moon landing.

I take it you didn't follow any of the suggestions given to you on your thread "Flat Earth"? Like, for example, sending out a balloon with a camera attached? Tongue

What if there's not a lot of space out there? What if the space is in your head? What if the Sun is only 51.5 km in diameter and orbits above a flat unmoving Earth and there's other worlds with other suns just beyond the Antarctic ice wall?
Brah, what the hell are you talking about? I said read about the Tehran accident, there is a bunch if evidence concerning who, how and when saw UFOs and what happened after that. Read about the O'Hara 2006 accident, where UFO has been filmed from various positions by common people.

The 1976 Tehran UFO incident seems interesting, though some of its details are often misreported, or omitted (Mehrabad's radar being under repair and not actually operational at the time; the frequent malfunctions of the Iranian aircraft). The Skeptoid looked into this case a few years ago, http://skeptoid.com/episodes/4315, and pointed out a number of alternative explanations to the most interesting parts of this event - though I find those alternatives a bit unsatisfactory: the object they were all seeing was Jupiter; the two projectiles the pilots saw were meteorites (though the timing here might actually fit); the aircraft malfunctioning at that time; the radar lock was acquired either through copilot error, or malfunction; and the transponder they found a day later having been left by a malfunctioning American C-141 (they were supposedly having problems with turbulence causing them to be ejected).

1777  Other / Off-topic / Re: IS UFO or ALIENS are real ? on: May 26, 2015, 01:58:06 AM
UFO can be real (unidentified flying object) and it can be a weather balloon or some military plane or plenty of things. Aliens are a different matter IMO, at least I haven't seen an alien (unless something on earth is alien-based lol).

Aliens probably think Earth's a craphole and don't want to visit it anyway. I'm sure they can think of much more interesting places to visit.

Yea, an alien race that can travel the starts is certainly not living in socalism/communism. After they see so many idiot socialists here, they will get nausea and just leave the solar system very fast.

That's quite a lot of certainty about an hypothetical alien race we know almost nothing about. Grin

By the way, how is socialism an impediment to interstellar travel?

There is no evidence whatsoever. But, there is a lot of space out there.

No evidence? Brah, read about the Tehran accident.

What if there's not a lot of space out there? What if the space is in your head? What if the Sun is only 51.5 km in diameter and orbits above a flat unmoving Earth and there's other worlds with other suns just beyond the Antarctic ice wall?

I think the Flat Earth "theory" actually requires the Earth to be moving "up", instead of gravity being real (as gravity would cause other parts of the whole idea to fail).

Of course they are real. If you still dont believe, watch Ancient Aliens.

This is a copy/paste of a post by cubanos, but as it wasn't removed (so far, at least):

Ancient Aliens has been mentioned on this thread several times before, and you really should be careful holding it as evidence for anything other than how far some people are willing to go to push their ideas on others - even if it includes deceiving them.

Of course they are real. If you still dont believe, watch Ancient Aliens.

If you're basing your opinion on Ancient Aliens, you might want to see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9w-i5oZqaQ (Ancient Aliens Debunked - (full movie) HD, 3h10m44s) - it goes into considerable detail debunking several of the claims Ancient Aliens makes, and doing a decent job at it, in my opinion.

Quote
Ancient Aliens Debunked is a 3 hour refutation of the theories proposed on the History Channel series Ancient Aliens. It is essentially a point by point critique of the "ancient astronaut theory" which has been proposed by people like Erich von Däniken and Zecharia Sitchin as well as many others.

1779  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Palestine & israel? What do you think about that situation? on: May 15, 2015, 02:55:07 PM
Just responding to these two short notes in another good post by you. I also agree that this is the best approach for me as a "selfish tax payer." However, following this road is nearly guaranteed political suicide in the US, so it almost seems futile to try to pursue it. Being critical of Israeli policy opens you to a charge of being anti-Semitic, 'betraying an important ally,' or any other serious political crimes that a political challenger would be all too eager to use against you for their own political gain. It's unfortunate because as Israel's largest enabler, I believe we have a responsibility to hold Israel responsible for human rights violations. (Given our own track record, the case would ring hollow though.) Despite being the dominant military force in the area, Israel is still viewed as the underdog, and undercutting them inspires great anger from US citizens.

For the time being at least, I'm afraid you're right. But, I believe that is changing: younger and even college aged students, who are far less influenced by the traditional media and have greater access to information, aren't as caught up in that whole narrative, I think. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, there have been quite a few groups, and perhaps even a couple of university campus, joining the Boycott, Sanctions and Divestment movement, for example. That's one of the reasons I think Israel's attempts at derailing the peace process are so self-destructive: there is no way that, the longer this mess continues, the support Israel receives won't continue to wane, until it reaches the point that they are completely isolated in the international community - same as it did for South Africa, or Indonesia, before them.

The book On Killing is really great. I can't recommend it enough. It's one of the most important books I've ever read considering the topic it deals with and how the military systematically extinguishes the natural instinct not to kill, and how important understanding desensitization is for our civilization in this era where violence can be inflicted on large numbers by so few and with such ease.

It's on my to-read list. Wink Somewhat unrelated but, there was a three part interview The Real News did with David Swanson some time ago, that I think you might like (well, at least I did Smiley):

"Lies and War - David Swanson on Reality Asserts Itself"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzwaSbWD8C0 - "On RAI with Paul Jay, David Swanson, author of "War is a Lie", talks about becoming a full time activist for peace"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM5qIvVLGg0 - "On RAI, Paul Jay and David Swanson discuss the culture and economics of war"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIcOdilpXUU - "On RAI with Paul Jay, David Swanson says that nonviolent campaigns have been more successful than campaigns of violence"

I particularly liked the idea they explore in the second video: that war is, in a sense, a "cultural invention", or that at the very least, the culture of a society has a great deal of influence in either promoting or rejecting the practice of war - as opposed to, war simply being just a part of human nature, and fundamentally unavoidable; or mainly economic/resource driven; or perhaps due to the way societies are structured and who has power in them.

The whole thing is a bit long though: about an hour.

the land doesn't belong to Israel.

Yes it does. They were attacked and beat their attackers and took the spoils of war.
c'est la vie...

There is a related question I've brought up more than once:

Is Breslau occupied by the Poles?

There are consequences to losing wars.

But I do think I understand the position of many of those who say that the "West Bank" is Palestinian land occupied by Israel but Breslau is not German land occupied by Poland. Many people believe in some concept of "international law" which means that these kinds of questions are answered by certain "international bodies" (often offshoots of the United Nations). So the West Bank is occupied because certain "international bodies" say so, and Breslau isn't occupied because there aren't "international bodies" who say it is. I find this to be a scary way to look at the world, outsourcing one's judgement to "international bodies" -- but many people find it more comfortable than thinking things through for themselves.

Actually, as I've pointed out to tins (though he completely ignored it), Israel's own Supreme Court considers the occupied territories to be just that: occupied - as in, not a part of Israel, but under temporary occupation, pending some sort of negotiated agreement (an agreement that, as I've mentioned on several posts so far, Israel blocks). This is a position that the Supreme Court of Israel has consistently held since 1967. And in fact, when caught in related cases in the Supreme Court, even the Israeli government argues on the basis that it is an occupying power - as an example, when the government acted out the unilateral disengagement from Gaza, and was challenged by settlers in the Supreme Court, it used, and won the case with the argument that the settlements are only meant to be temporary (on the basis that it is supposed to be a temporary occupation, and that it is an occupying power).

Ah, J. J. Phillips, I'm glad you're back in this thread. I think you might have missed my reply on the previous page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1012231.msg11255554#msg11255554; in it, I answered your requests for sources and background information, and commented on the rest of your post in some detail - by the way, let me apologize in advance for the great wall of text. Also, the previous post, for which, at the time, you didn't have the opportunity to answer in full, is now back at page 6; here's the link to the post, if you want to take a look at it again: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1012231.msg11065074#msg11065074 - I touched upon, and somewhat expanded a few of the same points in my latest reply though, so feel free to merge those, if you will.

I saw your post(s) but haven't finished reading it yet. Thanks for the effort you put into writing them. I will simply have to wait until I have enough free time to devote to them before responding.

PS: I now recognize Vatican City as land rightfully belonging to Palestinians and will fully support those who apply all means available to return that land to its rightful owners.

Oh, good; I was worried you might have missed them, when I saw "[you] thought we resolved everything" - but that being the case, then I look forward to reading your reply to those posts. Smiley
