The maximum number of service nodes at the moment is ~880 based on a coin supply of ~2,540,000.

This means that number 1 wallet would be able to run ~68 service nodes ( without worry about being dropped by the spread.  Interesting stuff.

68 full service/bitcoin nodes.  That would be a serious commitment to bandwidth bills Cheesy

Interesting, what is the calculation that you made to come up with 68?

I was going by mental arithmetic so I'll show you my rough working from memory.  I apologise for the mental back of fag packet calculations!

Number 1 wallet has ~200k SPR

Current coin supply is ~2,500,000

Max number of snodes (coin supply/2880)= 868

Based on the false premise that every coin will be used in a servicenode (I have no data to guess how many coins will be in snodes):

Max coin supply / Max snodes = 2880SPR

Meaning that if I was the owner of #1 wallet and I wanted to guarantee that all of my service nodes were in the spread I'd load each node with  2800SPR which means that I'd be able to afford to fund roughly 68 snodes in this way.

EDIT:  Correcting price error

A quick check on AWS estimates that it would cost $3000pm to run the following:

68 x T2.micro
68 x 60GB magnetic volumes
13,600GB outbound traffic
1360GB inbound traffic (free anyway)

This means the #1 wallet holder would need to see about 130,000SPR per month (at current price) to break even)

Let me get this straight, we could have 2,000 Bitcoin Full nodes within 12 months?

up to 3,000-4,000 within 5 years?

Not bad targets to set.

Yes, this curve has a very appealing development over the next 10 years.

Also, during this time the growth of limited number of SN will allow for an extra servicenode to be installed every 1-2 days for many years to come,
keeping it newcomer-friendly every day.

As long as my nodes stay within the spread I'm happy Wink

There are ways and means being worked on  Wink

Care to elaborate regarding dash or would you just like to be seen at as a shill for that copycat coin?

Lol.  Not this old shit again.
1365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (official thread) on: May 03, 2015, 11:07:41 AM
One thing we need to discuss is that whilst the original SPR masternode test was extremely easy to use, allowing multiple MNs per wallet, we can't really have a model where you could in theory have an unlimited number of masternodes on the same PC or laptop.

Perhaps one public IP per service node?  A point to be discussed.  I suppose it depends on whether it would be allowable for somebody to have 50+ service nodes sitting on their PC at home and whether they'd be able to provide a decent quality of service (whatever that service is).
1366  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (official thread) on: May 02, 2015, 06:50:22 PM
The Darkcoin model of 1000DRK to buy in and the market value of 1000DRK will determine how many people have masternodes (some will cash out at points etc).
That model is tried and tested and I can't quite understand the benefits of the proposed SPR method yet.

Horses were also "tried and tested" once, and they still had to make room for the automobile.

My though process comes from the desire that I want to expose the collateral to the same market forces that hashrate and currency value are also exposed to.

This exposure can never be wrong. Think of it as an additional parameter, a "valve" in which the market is allowed to influence (and be influenced back) by the network.

Sure, it makes things more complicated, much like people are pissed that BTC price isn't always increasing, and that difficulty rises instead of staying where it is.

Yeah, let the people be discontent, it will keep them on their feet and engaged, and this will only serve the system.

But that's something I will have to prove to you on testnet in a real world situation.

You present your logic flawlessly and articulately but from my perspective, a servicenode operator is best on their feet and engaged when they are assured that their node is up and running and stable thus ensuring that their operating costs are not in vain should they be kicked from the active node list.

It has been a long time since I have been this excited about a project.  Testnet, as you say, is going to be a proving ground but also a lot of fun  Smiley
1367  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (official thread) on: May 02, 2015, 06:33:21 PM
We can write the PR articles over the next few weeks and get them out to our new PR contacts.

Maybe we can get the Bitcoin core devs and the Bitcoin Foundation running a couple of ServiceNodes  Wink

I will work on my own implementation of servicenodes and hopefully have something for testnet ready by the end of this month.

First I always thought I would let those first servicenodes do some kind of "empty" service just for testing sake,
but it could very well be that their first service will be around how to "insure" that every servicenode is running a full bitcoin node,
and not trying to game the system, as this user in your thread correctly emphasizes:

The problem is identifying who really is a full node. You can set up thousands of "ghost nodes" that are just passthrough gateways for the same node but  will look like multiple different ones.
The moment you start with paid incentives, you have to try to fend off everyone that is trying to game the system.

And this problem could be harder to solve than it sounds: proving that you run a full node.

But if you create the servicenode protocol, you can be in charge of how it launches to be accepted by the network.

I love the idea of a symbiotic relationship between SPR and BTC.  Obviously we'd be the tiny little fish picking scraps from its teeth but its a great starting point for servicenodes nonetheless.  A perfect demonstration of the potential of a service node "payload".

I have to say George, I'm still very sceptical about having a cap on the number of masternodes that moves with coin supply. I'd love to have a discussion in more detail on this.  The Darkcoin model of 1000DRK to buy in and the market value of 1000DRK will determine how many people have masternodes (some will cash out at points etc).  That model is tried and tested and I can't quite understand the benefits of the proposed SPR method yet.

I thought I understood it a few days ago but the more I think about it, the fewer benefits I can define.
1368  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (official thread) on: May 02, 2015, 05:59:31 PM
Funny you should mention incentives to people running a full bitcoin node.

I started a thread about that a few days ago.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1042639.msg11238697#msg11238697

So maybe, to run a servicenode, you also need to run a full bitcoin node.

That would stop people spamming the servicenode network with dummy accounts to get a share of rewards.

 Roll Eyes

The more I hear about this idea the more I like it.
And it shouldn't be that hard to implement this as the first "service" the servicenodes are going to provide.

Cool.

Oooh PR!  Can I help?

How about the big elephant in Bitcoin's room.  Is there a way a SpreadCoin service node could incentivise somebody to run a full bitcoin node?

Now, if we as a network of a few thousand servicenodes could have a bitcoin node installed on each of our service nodes, than this would serve bitcoin well.
Maybe if this decentralized searchengine is also a giant decentralized blockexplorer? Then we could help all cryptocoins (we take in) and they would be incentivised to help us... by buying SPR I guess...

Or solo mining it (SPR)...
1370  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | Decentralize Everything (official thread) on: May 02, 2015, 03:48:35 PM
Er, yes....obviously that is what I meant!  Grin

With media stories like the below Bitcoin could do with more full nodes.  As you correctly point out, the incentive would have to be aimed at people with no or few BTC.

That means we will need a decentralised browser  Smiley

EXACTLY right.

I've been dreaming about a decentralized browser since the days I went "all in" on namecoin about two years ago, lol.

A decentralized in-wallet browser with blockchain access also finally makes it easy to browse those *.bit (namecoin) or...

let's say *.coin (spreadcoin) domains?

And so the endless realms of possibilities begin.

Yep, you know what... let's wait with the roadmap, I'd rather chat with you guys a little longer and gather more material.

Support getting stronger by the hour on Bittrex. Bitter sweet lol

Just wait until the roadmap is up and we have announced the first few services.   Look at me....I sound like a cheerleader already!  Grin

snip

Ofcourse I can get very speculative about the far future in the roadmap, but I will not do this ATM.

Thats the best bit...we have no idea about the far future of this project.  Thats the beauty of it.  Its not up to us which direction it takes.  All we can do is start it off with a strong foundation, build the first few services and community demand will dictate where the service goes in the future...

Please add https://spr.suprnova.cc as pool!

Please add the pool to the OP Smiley

Any miner in any assumed pool can always just steal the block reward instead of following the rules set up by the pool.

It's for your own good that I don't put your pool in the OP.

Nope, they cannot, i have fixed that already long time ago.

Noone can steal anything as everything gets encrypted

Are your miners here open source?

https://spr.suprnova.cc/index.php?page=gettingstarted

Yes, they are all on my github, just the encryption key (256 bit) is secret. Did you follow the old thread? Smiley

There were parts that I skipped over I admit  Grin, I will have to read it first...

It's all open source.

All that special stuff which had been built in to prevent pools has been fully encrypted by me, no one can read the privkeys.

I just stopped work on the pool stuff since the interest on the coin literally vanished, hopefully it comes back. Several other pools had contacted me also to help them setting up the encryption stuff, so probably if price goes up, more pools will be available.

Oh and I would be glad to make the pool 0% Fee if that helps..  It is a community thing..

Of course you are always able to Solo

From memory there are several theoretical ways to create a public pool for SPR and I vaguely remember ocminer being the first to make one work (it was a while ago). Props to OCminer.

George, thank you for everything.  I'm well aware you've had to work your arse off on this.
1379  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SpreadCoin | True Decentralization (No Pools) | Testing New Masternodes on: May 01, 2015, 01:10:57 PM
Yes, we need 24 hours for the DNS records to be updated worldwide.

So in 24 hours will be the earliest possible moment.

If there are more people active in 12 (or 36 hours) we can also do the ANN in 36 hours?

So please everybody tell me when you are best available, in 24 or 36 hours?

Both times are fine with me.

I want to have as many people as possible when the ANN goes live.

Either will be good for me although I'll likely be extremely drunk in 36 hours...will be watching the boxing.

24 hours?!  Cry

I can't stand the waiting any more!
