If anything, Doge is a beautiful example of the power of community.  I'm a secret Doge lover.

I agree, proper stress testing is valuable.

HOWEVER, some people depend on the blockchain for income and my preference would be for intellectual peaceful debate or protest rather than harmful disruption.  Neither CoinWallet.eu nor Bitcoin does well out of this.

Does anybody have any experience running new Rockminer R-boxes with Minera?  I have two hooked up to a RPI2.

cgminer autorestarts every few hours and then about once a day the Pi freezes altogether.  Once the RPI2 is powered off and on again, mining begins until the same thing happens again.

For reference the R-Boxes are running off a breakout board from a Corsair 750w modular PSU and the RPI2 is running off a 2.5A power supply from my old Nexus 5 smart phone.

Any ideas why cgminer keeps restarting and my RPI2 eventually hangs?

In my personal opinion this week has been a watershed moment for this project.  If we could all work full time on this then I'm confident that we've got the necessary skills and experience to deliver PoBN and do it well.  Of course, we still do have the necessary skills and experience but things will take longer.

I don't want this to take any longer than necessary but I'm also aware that extra hands doesn't always equal appropriate progress.  We need unanimous agreement on the way forward.  I propose that the core team has a debate over the next few days and plans ahead according to our current workloads and then makes a decision on whether those timescales are acceptable. 

I'm going offline for a few days, literally to somewhere with no internet (!) but I hope to publish a statement on behalf of the team early next week about what is going to happen and when. 

As said in the update, we're all pretty busy paying the bills at the moment and sadly the effort we are putting into Spreadcoin isn't publicly facing on this thread at the moment.

Just a quick note to people following this project.

As I'm sure you noticed there was no weekly update last week.  This was in part because of day job demands.  I'm working with a new client and it is taking me a while to adjust.

I said in my original post about updates that there would always be an update regardless of progress (or lack of).  I dropped the ball last week for which I apologise.

I will be writing an update on Friday.

The discussions we have had for the potential of the SPR network clearly overstep the mark of being defined as a coin.  Our primary goal is not to be a payment system for example.

Lets have this debate now rather than in a years time.

Just got my first payout after about 18 hours of mining.

I've got two Rockminer R-Boxes pointing about 220Ghs at this pool and received 0.00206102 BTC in 18 hours. 

I know it is only (less than) one day but so far this is better than I have received from other pools.  I'll see what I can say in a week!

I've got 200Ghs pointed your way.  Looking forward to seeing how it goes for a mighty hobby miner like me

Development Update

Just a short update this week.  This week has been a week of head down work from the devs.

Georgem has continued to work on his new coin visualisation tool.  One of the challenges he is facing is how to depict such a huge volume of information in a useful and graphical way.  To solve this problem, georgem is using open GL 2D acceleration so he can render the data at 60fps (with the facility to buffer and slow it down).  We promised a more specific roadmap to set expectations for when service node testing would be ready for testnet however this tool is a pre-requisite for an accurate estimation of our next steps.  Please be patient while this very cool tool is completed. Georgem is very excited to show you what it can do.

Chaositec is back on dry land, has an internet connection again and is restarting work on his multipool with Spreadcoin pay-outs.  X11 and Scrypt testing has proved to be very successful with Sha256 still to come.  Chaositec is going to resume work on the Bitcoin core update once the multipool is ready for its next beta test.

Find My Doge 

After much debate the dev team and community are in almost unanimous agreement that a “find SatoshiNakamoto” vantitygen competition is a great idea.  In order to test the mechanics of such a competition, Coins101 is going to launch a vanitygen competition on the Dogecoin sub-Reddit with a 4 million Dogecoin prize fund for finding various Doge related Spreadcoin addresses.  More details and competition rules will be posted here and on the Doge sub-Reddit when it is launched.

Other News

The core development team has written a proposal to replace Bitcoin coinbase mining rewards.  This BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) is inspired by PoBN and how service nodes will become an overlay network to Spreadcoin and Bitcoin.  This has important parallels with the application of the Spreadcoin economy.

Minerpage made a very interesting post on BCT that the number of Bitcoin Full Nodes continues to fall (8% since Q1 2015) which adds gravitas to the requirement for Spreadcoin’s PoBN (Proof of Bitcoin Node) service.
