841  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Realistically does bitcoin have any competition ? on: September 21, 2015, 09:52:46 AM

To get rich?  (I mean, really rich)  To change the world?  You have to think outside the box.  You think Buffet got so rich by following the rules?  No!  He invented modern value investing; he was doing it when no one else was, and that's why he had his advantage.  You think Bill Gates got where he is by avoiding breaking eggs and giving a fuck what mainstream investors thought?

People who are heavy into crypto now are eschewing all the rules, and either the greatest technological innovation since the internet just *goes away somehow* or we will be the new financial elite eventually, same as those who got in on the ground floor of the dot-com boom and made good decisions (yes, if you go all in on Pets.com or BBQCoin you are going to lose your shirt).

The future is not a safe place.  It is a wild and crazy place, full of unexpected turns and twists.

It will not belong to the safe.

It will belong to the bold.

the idea of crypto is an alt currency to fiat, its not about getting rich.

for any crypto to be successful its about adoption, you can think outside the box (though i am yet to see anything it crypto thinking outside the box) go the road less travelled, be bold, be uniquely innovative; but you'll be using this amazing innovative currency alone and therefore its next to completely useless.

anything more complex then bitcoin has zero chance.

seems alot think if it came after bitcoin and is 'original' ish code then it must be better  Roll Eyes

but bitcoin does have some competition in its own shadow......litecoin. (many may laugh that off but i could list a ton of real world reasons but then again all the blinkered crytpos pseudo techie types wouldn't really listen, luckily though its not upto them).

I'm very curious to hear that.

in the real world i'm a daytrader, also run a company that helps companies to raise funds for listing on the stockmarket, so on our books we have alot of what you call seed investors, which we continually converse with.

god if you read the forum around here bitcoin is the future of money, bitcoin is so overrated here, but in mainstream investor circles bitcoin's almost considered a joke.

i hear Winklevoss' often sayin 'you got to wonder why the smartest people in the room always are pro bitcoin', well i say 'you got to wonder why the richest person in the room never is'

and i know.

biggest killer for investors, and joe public alike is Satoshi

i have posted in my thread - BOT is dead because bittrex didnt want it.

lol any crypto that requires bittrex to survive is a waste of ones and zeros anyways.

851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The state of crypto - The only serious thread on the subforum on: September 17, 2015, 03:32:21 AM
This thread is going in circles.

anyone willing to think outside the blockchain model for a p2p currency?

Can you be more specific?

All I can recall reading from you is how LTC is the best and how everything in cryptocurrency (including LTC?) is terrible.

What do you think is a good model?

i say litecoin is the best we have, but yeah always looking for better, again i think the whole blockchain idea is a dud (and you guys yourself point out the many flaws).

but i'm very much interested in the dev of a p2p currency, course i have random thoughts and ideas, and hoping others put up ideas to see if something can come out of it.

this section of the forums about alternatives to bitcoin. yet almost no one can get their head outside of the blockchain.

you a fan of the DAG thing?

smooth had another link somewherezzzzz....

first i've heard of it, quick read still a bit muddy on it but will look further.

854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: September 17, 2015, 02:16:41 AM
It was indeed a really big pump and dump action. I didn't think that this would be possible for a (actually) well-distributed coin like NEM :/

i've many issues with NEM probably one of the biggest is its distribution, that was seriously gamed and easy to game, almost lucky to hold even its current price with that.

the most sensible thing to be stated in this thread is that BTC is a rube goldberg machine. bitcoin and everything todate related is simply an overkill in complication for a p2p currency.

the blockchain idea leads to too much complications trying to plug its obvious flaws, leading to the biggest flaw of them all complication itself.

as i say its a currency not a mission to mars.

and the extant financial technology isn't a rube goldberg machine?

I mean, I'll give yah that, they are both rube goldberg machines - the difference is that with bitcoin everyone knows how it works (well, one can know how it works). The extant financial system..... not so much.

and, IMO, currency is much much more complicated than a mission to mars. That's merely getting from point A to point B. Currency is a monstrous technology in comparison - a device we use to store value, transfer time, exchange intangibles. We will, someday, get to mars. But we won't get there without currency providing a means to allow civilization to network.

yes but your comparing apples and oranges here on so many fronts, where to begin;

1) average joe's use fiat (without fully understanding it) because they have to, no one has to use bitcoin.

2) average joe's whether (unfounded or not) trust gov backed fiat (partly also because they have too), bitcoin your trusting yourself (well and also an anon dev with a billion $ stash), too trust bitcoin you kinda have to understand it, to trust fiat you can do it blindly (and again really have no choice).

857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Does anyone still think NXT is a scam? on: September 15, 2015, 11:25:41 PM
With vanishing volume

Volume is a bad indicator for 100% PoS coin because there are no miners who need to sell coins to pay electricity bills. Funny that you forgot this. Or maybe you didn't...

doesn't lack of vol also indicate no ones using it as a currency  Huh

860  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitcoinXT is gone and now what ? on: September 14, 2015, 10:27:05 PM
Altcoins can be the answer.  If the Bitcoin network is too busy at any time, people can use altcoins like Litecoin or Dash for example.

Both Litecoin and Dash have the same fixed blocksize issue as Bitcoin, so in the long run neither of them can be considered a solution. It is far from a simple problem, if it is possible at all, to create a fee market in the absence of a block reward even with a fixed blocksize. If one then allows the blocksize to scale with demand this may actually be impossible to attain. One needs to look for a POW coin that has both an adaptive blocksize limit and a minimum perpetual reward and that leaves Monero as the altcoin fix to the blocksize issue.

seriously plug it all day Monero is a shills joke here fullstop.

legend u'd think u'd know better.
