No need to "Question Authority" all the time... Cool

though you need to question a 'dencentralised' system having 'authority'  Wink

Threads like this make me believe people need a central authority to make them feel successful. If there's not some big rich powerful collective guiding the direction they aren't happy. Or maybe they're just greedy fucks looking to cash out at the earliest opportunity and big rich powerful collectives will help them do that faster.

the irony in gavin only having to convince 5 people to make the change, thats a hell of alot less people then had to be convinced for the too big to fail banks to be bailed out...........hmmm gotta love 'decentralised' cryptocurrencies...such a great alternative to the centralised banks controlled fiat.

1584  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Advantages of Litecoin? on: March 11, 2015, 02:48:55 AM
What are the advantages of Litecoin over bitcoin (or any other altcurrency)?

It's faster, but too fast?
more secure?
is acceptance and an economy emerging, like for btc?

Just some thoughts.. Interested in the forum opinions, thanks.

Its way faster than bitcoin. It is not popular yet. Litecoin founder is not interested in improvements except implementing side chain. There are many new alt-coins with rich features.
False. The confirmations are faster but that's it. The network security is also much weaker.

Raw hash doesn't add security the spread of it does, and in this both btc and ltc are less secure then they previously have been.

Personally anyone who considers any crypto as having bullet proof security is living a fairy land.

Ok spread, 2 pools control over 50% of Litecoin's entire hashrate...what were you saying?  Wink

yes and just one pool recently almost did that alone with bitcoin, as I say tis an equal problem with both, though u could also equally argue there are greater security risks then a 51 attack.
1585  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how to spot scam coin? on: March 11, 2015, 01:35:52 AM
I dont know what i should be look for how do i know coin is scam? people cant do premine anymore so how are they trying to scam us now? It seem to me every coin is scam how can i avoid this?

A premine does not absolutely indicate a scam.  Original Ripple holders still possess a great majority, yet it is the second largest by market capitalization.

large marketcap is no indication that tis not a scam   Roll Eyes

so much dumb this thread, that link  Shocked

gotta love this quote;

“In 10 years’ time there won’t be any paper cash. The big question is what’s going to replace it in Australia? Will it be Bitcoin? I don’t think so. More likely it will be ‘AusBit’[…].”

ummmm

there isn't any PAPER cash in Australia now and hasn't been for years noobs.
1588  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple v NextCoin v Quark v Peercoin v Litecoin ? Which? on: March 10, 2015, 12:32:17 AM

Litecoin - Does have some huge whales that mined the shit out of it.  Lead dev Coblee doesn't do anything for it anymore and has said he won't.  Went from like $50 to $2.  Ouch!  Also, has no reason to be.  Tech wise it isn't really better than Bitcoin and again compared to new 2.0's looks like shit.

coblee isn't the lead dev, but equally you're misrepresenting what coblee said, he is certainly still involved with litecoin and is doing alot for it.

certainly has a reason to be, its a traders coin and at that the best one (trolls may lie but the market doesnt)., seriously lets be honest all cryptos todate are trading tokens not one yet is any more then a token currency.

no such thing as 2.0s coins.,  not seen anything yet innovative enough to warrent being called a 2.0 coin, just because a coin is written from scratch and newer doesn't make it better then bitcoin blockchain types,

I hold coin in all of the above.

Which, if any do you think I should hold onto? Which should I get rid of?

Is there another I should be trading for that?

Ripple - trash coin unminable coin owned by a company
NextCoin - disturbed to 70 people garbage
Quark- LOL I'm not even gonna go there
Peercoin- first pos coin cool idea just failed to take off (low volume)
Litecoin - fairly disturbed no premine on every chinese exchange ,daily volume in the millions.

Now you could listen to retard trolls on here or you could look at the facts.

Litecoin baghodler LOL

Gets laughed for being a litecoin bagholder yet still in the green  Roll Eyes The block halving is coming for litecoin we'll see who's laughing by the end of 2015.

and with even the largest bag easily absorbed by the market because there is enough liquidity unlike all other alts Smiley

1592  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin v. Bitcoin on: March 09, 2015, 02:30:59 AM
From sig "The price of any commodity tends to gravitate toward the production cost.  Satoshi N. "

Sorry, a little off topic, but did  Satoshi really say that? Everything else I see from him has been clear-thinking and concise, but this gets things backwards. It's not that the price of the commodity gravitates towards the (current) production cost so much as the reverse, at least in the case of a commodity like bitcoin. If it costs $200 to produce a bitcoin that sells for $300, then rational investors will buy up more mining equipment to earn that profit. But more miners means divvying up the (fixed rate of supply) bitcoins more, leading to increased production costs per bitcoin.

In principle this would continue until it cost as much to produce a bitcoin as it sold for, accounting for all costs (electricity, personnel, etc.), on average. Of course with the volatility of BTC and the time lag involved in ordering and setting up miners, the relationship has been very loose. But over the long haul it should hold true.

Excellent analysis, xc.

A rational market price for something that is expected to increase in value will already reflect the present value of the expected future increases.  In your head, you do a probability estimate balancing the odds that it keeps increasing.

In the absence of a market to establish the price, NewLibertyStandard's estimate based on production cost is a good guess and a helpful service (thanks).  The price of any commodity tends to gravitate toward the production cost.  If the price is below cost, then production slows down.  If the price is above cost, profit can be made by generating and selling more.  At the same time, the increased production would increase the difficulty, pushing the cost of generating towards the price.

In later years, when new coin generation is a small percentage of the existing supply, market price will dictate the cost of production more than the other way around.

At the moment, generation effort is rapidly increasing, suggesting people are estimating the present value to be higher than the current cost of production.

thanks that actually explains alot i'd always hated that quote, and now I see put in context its more accurate.

Big volume with high liquidity.

Its a slightly faster version of Bitcoin and that is all to it. It is going to keep dropping slowly and eventually die.

no chance because us traders love it  Grin

1599  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Advantages of Litecoin? on: March 08, 2015, 07:37:32 AM
over most alts one of the very few not designed to make the original dev fiat, so pretty much as fair as they get.

over all alts, greater liquidity then any other in fact greater liquidity then all other alts combined, which in real world markets liquidity is of greater importance then price.

over bitcoin, its original dev is not anon, bitcoin's anon dev maybe worshiped around here but outside in the mainstream community an anon creator well, conveys less trust (whether that be real or imaginary especially if that anon dev holds a significant % of that coin).

1600  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you "scared" that Bitcoin might actually succeed? on: March 06, 2015, 10:47:43 PM
In April/May 2011 (and earlier) this forum was much quieter, and great conversations were easy to find. Those days are gone forever.
I want Biction to succeed "all the way", but that journey will not be easy. The establishment will fight back and the going could get rough.
Hopefully we will be flooded with a new group of honest people who have no intention of setting up more "failed companies".

Do you think the huge wave of venture capital will continue without big setbacks?
Are you "scared" that Bitcoin might actually succeed (and then have serious issues), or are you focused on the bright side?

bitcoin had potential til the VC types came along, don't see how anyone would consider vc's as positive, they are leeches that make bitcoin no better the the bank controls fiat....of course that plays into gov hands so thats where btc is heading anyways.

most people consider btc success vs its price in USD  Embarrassed so as a fiat maker well u'll get the success as a currency success will never come for it.

Please, please shut the fuck up. Every one of your posts I've read has been stupid as fuck. Companies around Bitcoin is what helps grow the currency. It's what gives Bitcoin it's economy. Without VC's, Bitcoin would be nowhere and going nowhere.

I'm just gonna put your dumb ass on ignore, cause reading your ill-thought out, retarded ass posts makes my blood boil.

if other peoples opinion on the internet makes your blood boil, you my friend need to turn your internets off and go out get some clean fresh air and lighten up Smiley

please lay off the personal attacks you're only making one person look dumbass here  Wink
