You can count in one hand the ones that did something positive and somewhat revolutionary after bitcoin

and that be the underlining problem; too large a proportion of this community needs their fingers to count thereby allowing what would normally be unsustainable models to exist for longer then they'd do in real world markets.
1822  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: im done on: October 13, 2014, 08:15:51 AM
If money leaves crypto it will be a good thing. I see that there are three people in crypto, the enthusiasts, the idealists and those who want money. It is the later that has dominated for too long and some will go to any length to make a buck. We are working in open source software with absolutely none of the open source ethos. Anyone should be able to pick up the code and work on it as that is how you contribute to open source and others should welcome that. Instead each coin that comes to life generally seems to be out to destroy all others. This is simply greed, the same greed I saw with Bitcoiners when I first joined crypto, they said that there should only be one coin, Bitcoin. That is only an argument if you are looking at crypto from a market perspective, the more coins the thinner the market, the thing is that this is open source software and Bitcoin has to maintain a certain status quo. It is the alts that can break out and try new things that others including Bitcoin can incorporate. Alts have the same attitude of kill other coins to make their worth more. This kind of attitude is corrosive to crypto and will put people off when they only see hostility and abuse. Perhaps if Bitcoin goes back to being worth cents we can focus on features and functionality again.

+1

add to that I've always noted the IQ of this place is always inversely proportional to the price of BTC in USD, so I'd personally be glad if bitcoin was again worth a few cents, make the place more productive and less dog eat dog get rich quick types.

whats the point of developing an alternative to the greedy banker controlled fiat if we ourselves become the greedy bankers?

I was buying up (and trading to acquire more) when it was pow with the 2014 cap, got to admitted was very disappointed with the change to pos in the way it did, changing the cap on a whim defeats the whole trustless system idea (something that is lost on so many coins/devs).

We had no choice. There was no blockchain security. If people liked the idea so much, they would have driven the price higher and mined for transaction fees. Community voted for 50% PoS

there was other options to still keep the promised cap.

I'm curious what those options were.  I mean with a coin that only has a couple thousand, it's never going to be used for much so there's no incentive for anyone to mine or stake for transaction fees.  So other than a high interest PoS, what other options are there that would keep the blockchain moving?  Firecoin for example has a "lot" more coins but has a real problem with that and has had to come up with some creative ways to encourage people to stake that coin.

Well for a start sticking to the original cap should have been a given.

Right, I understand that would be nice.  But what I don't understand is how that could be accomplished without a way to secure the network by people staking or mining in some way.  If there's no reward for those things, there would be no one willing to do that and therefore the network and thus the coin would be dead wouldn't it?  So I'm just asking you what those options were that would have kept the network going and with the same cap.

If you can't keep to one of the fundamental features of the trustless system then its a flawed concept from the start, and is a pure pos a secure network?

Not sure what you're getting at.  No coin is completely trustless or secure. Oh maybe a couple could be considered that today, but that could easily change "tomorrow".  Anyway, I can see you're not actually going to answer the question so I won't bother with this anymore.

You're asking me what other options there are, my answer would have been to stay pow and 2014, you may think that's a dead end option, I equally think the option taken is that.

another option would have been a much lower rate of pos, and fee elimination to reduce inflation (though equally disagreeable imo),

anyway now people are left with trading a non inflationary crypto (ie btc) for an inflationary one....that's cap been changed on a whim thereby completely eliminating trust.

having said all that do I still hold...yes! have I increased my holdings since going pos...yes!

why? because the level of even the most basic understanding of economics or even basic math is so low on this forum one can profit from even the most moronic of cryptos Wink

My coins are stuck at the stake stage for ages now, even after completely downloading the block chain from scratch.

Any idea how to rectify this?

What block is now? Check it  in https://chainz.cryptoid.info/cfc2/
POS is still studied for errors.
Network need more online wallets with old coins, participate in the POS-generation only 4-6 wallets, it is not enough.

my wallets online and updated, yet rich list shows less then I have at that address and 26 days with last movement  Huh also some sent to bittrex (to test) days ago never arrived.

Is block in explorer matches your wallet block? Check it and write to me. 26 days is much longer.

Well it was, then it wasn't. redownloaded chain and it does.....well until I start staking...then it takes up its own chain lol

Own chain? If it show in wallet "transaction" tab and not confirm in network - use  -rescan before restart wallet.

Think its always going to happen as soon as I start staking, my weight vs the network through lack of others staking.

The more miners we get on the multipool, the more payments are sent out. This will result in a lower cap, since all transaction fees on the new chain are destroyed (among other factors) to decrease the rate of inflation

2014-2100 already....inflationary bigtime no?

A small amount of inflation is essential. At 5% we are offering like 25% inflation yearly for 50% stake

essential for what?

btw the b&tch of a client still losses its balance in the gui as it stakes.

define what you mean by "Basically, I'm all-in on Maieuticoin." ?

Increasing Maieuticoin's market cap, trading volume, and exposure is now my main focus

sorry I wasn't very clear, I was more meaning all in financially or time commitment to cryptos wise?

An example of such a crypt....

Am I missing something or is BM the kind of behavior that drives all seriousness away from this forum?

I truly identify with OP. Everyone else who feels otherwise, you're a walking advertisement for pro-regulation. You're basically saying to the powers that be, "Please step in and regulate us, we obviously can't help ourselves."

Cryptocurrency was in part necessitated by the fact that Wall Street and the surrounding bureaucracy sucks so very, very much. Nowadays the only remaining difference between crypto and Wall Street is regulation.

So you want regulation? By all means, keep it up, keep blabbing about how this is the real world because it is not. Its a pack of thieves committing crimes in broad daylight, waiting to be rounded up. Or at least taxed and fined.
This would be the most accurate thing i have read in this forum.Regulation is coming and they have no one to blame but themselves. To many people have lost alot of money in crypto to go unnoticed for much longer.Crypto has been watched for a long time by officals and its want be long before the regulations start flowing.Greed is such a terrible thing.

The whole point to cryptos, and by their very nature, they can be completely indifferent to regulations, governments etc......seems many of the users are just convinced by gov etc otherwise....shame really.

When you people will become more serious and stop lying? It's not possible to make money with this coin.

what do u mean by "It's not possible to make money with this coin?"  Huh

do you mean u can't make fiat from ur crypto trading? or the gldcoin can't be made into a functional currency?

I can't make fiat with Gold coin the cryptocurrency ''Gold coin scientist Mysterious Java client''

Well don't go on the attack and blame others for your own trading inadequacies.
Hell I ain't made a cent of fiat out of goldcoin, nor do I ever intend on, tis not why I am in cryptos and defeats the point.
1837  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: im done on: October 12, 2014, 01:40:56 AM
There's no saving the Altcoin subforum. Tongue I don't blame you for leaving. I don't even talk about the coins I like here any more because I know I'm just adding to the noise.

Problem any talk about alts here is pumping xyz crypto for fiat profit (in between the infighting), not much talk about creating alternative currencies to fiat.

back on topic though;
gldcoin seems to be creeping up on Cryptsy (is it traded anywhere else nowadays?).

Interested to see the if the new clients anything of note compared to the hype by what now is a very small band of supporters.

I noticed goldcoin went up too.
Wasn't Kelsey the one who wanted Goldcoin traded only on one exchange?
I think I read that somewhere?

yes I read that somewhere too.

(hell if I had my way cryptos wouldn't be traded on exchanges...just sayin Wink ).
1840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: im done on: October 11, 2014, 10:14:05 PM
The Altcoin section is pretty savage. Going there is like driving through that side of town where you lock your doors and hope you don't run out of gas.

Crypto is most people's first direct experience with the underground criminal economy.

This is what it's like when you reject Govt Authority and chose anarchy. It gets much worse.

It's like drug dealing, stock swindles, doing business in a place like Russia, fraud = culture...
Normal people should just go back to doing normal things.

Yes when I first read I was thinking from his/her chosen name I'd say they'd possibility be talking about their own side of town Wink
