Private key==bitcoin.

I... am confused as to why anyone here would be confused about this?

It’s still there Cheesy

Somebody is definitely going to steal it.

It's a BIP38 password encrypted paper wallet. Impossible to sweep without knowing the password...

+1, Your funds are safe as long as you remember the passphrase.

IMO, keeping a BIP38 password makes your paper wallet less secure. There's a good chance that you'll forget that phrase by the time you need to extract bitcoin out of your paper wallet. Roll Eyes

Compare the probability of getting your piece of paper stolen and the probability of forgetting the password; there are more chances that you'll forget your password!

Okay guys, there seems to be some misunderstanding with respect to paper wallet security.  Now, the misunderstanding might lie with me or it might lie with you so I am putting some Bitcoin on the line here as a test.  If you are correct, it should be as easy as 123 to steal the .0123 Bitcoin I have secured on this paper wallet.  If I am correct, then I can relax.

My fully exposed paper wallet:

Go 4 IT!  I will monitor the balance.

At first, I thought that was something like a "New Year Present", until the moment I realized that the private key begins with "6P"... Grin

Happy new year guys!

I hope that 2019 brings:

-more happiness in your lives than 2018
-institutional investors to the bitcoin world (they'll eventually enter the crypto, but the question is, "will it happen in 2019?")

I just bought a bunch of 1060 6gb for 75$ because market is so flooded with mining rigs.  If you sell now you will not make much.

Do you have any access to *very* cheap electricity or just bought them for mining in upcoming months?

I have about 700 rigs already running and own a 4mw data center but no, not very cheap as I am in USA, just a believer and don't often pass up good deals.   Tongue

Link to my project =)

OMG, that's quite an achievement! Shocked

4 MegaWatts and a single person?!? I think that makes you the biggest individual crypto miner in the world!
2166  Economy / Exchanges / Re: HitBTC.com - The most advanced cryptocurrency exchange on: December 30, 2018, 04:18:30 PM
I've tested the mobile application (as a tester) of HitBTC (it's not public yet), and they've done a decent job in developing it. The only thing which I hated the most in it is the accessibility of the account through API keys instead of username/password. Other than API login, everything looks perfect.

Without reading up further notice but still making deposits even the wallet is on maintenance and now they blame the exchange?  Huh

They mostly do it to earn some profits from an "arbitrage" opportunity. They:

-buy cheaper at X exchange to sell for more at Y exchange (seeing buy orders of better values at that Y exchange)
-then realize that the coin isn't even available for withdrawal through X exchange
-finally, bash that X exchange and eventually sell it back for an even cheaper price; they ultimately get into a little loss instead of a little profit.

Before arbitraging is a good way of earning quick profit. That was before when bitcoin transactions are around 10k sat to 20k sat. Now it is higher and altcoins too. HitBTC probably got the worst withdrawal fees on altcoins.

About $15 flat fee on withdrawing SENT from HitBTC: Lips sealed

Considering selling my rigs piece by piece via Reddit or looking for a bulk sale. Anyone have any recommendations on going about?

Around 200 1060 6GBS

People will only buy your "decent priced" gpu if the same person will be getting decent return, gpu gaming possible, mining not possible. If I were you, I would wait eth price to return to 800 usd or so, so you can get a better deal.

That might not be a very good idea; Ethereum's rebound to $1k could take more than a year, ultimately resulting in much more devaluation of the GPU cards.

@GPU Farm, IMO, you should first of all figure out that which GPUs are in absolutely perfect condition, not overclocked, and able to reach their standard (first-use) benchmarks. You'll most probably find gamers for such GPUs (especially since they're all nVidia) and get a much better rate.

Hope there will be a lite version of Deadalus wallet, syncing the current wallet just take ages and feels like one is syncing the whole blockchain, one reason i don't like ada tokens, where to store them is pain Lips sealed
And i can't wait to see what good news the cardano team has for the community, new years gift i hope Wink

It's not necessary to use Daedalus when you only want to store your ADA, you can use a light-client wallet (developed by Emurgo) Yoroi for that purpose.
2173  Other / Serious discussion / Re: U.S. Government It is Helping Bitcoin GROW on: December 28, 2018, 11:26:50 PM
The situation in Iran is a bit different. You need to remember that Iran is an Islamic (Muslim country). According to Sharia law investing, speculating, gambling, making profit with interest is considered illegal. Bitcoin would in that case also fall in that category if you are buying Bitcoins in order to sell them later and make a profit.

That's so wrong; you probably aren't much aware of Islamic Sharia laws.

-Gambling? It's not allowed.

-Speculating/trading? Mostly not allowed but within certain circumstances, it's allowed.

-Investing? IT'S MOSTLY ALLOWED!

Buying bitcoin falls in the last category and there's no reason at all why it'd not be considered Shariah-compliant. Not sure about the top 10, but IMO, Iran will at least be getting into the top 15 soon.

South Africa won the test match against Pakistan by 6 wickets, and both the captains made quite an interesting record! Grin

Sarfraz and Faf du Plessis become first ever captains to record a ‘pair’ in the same Test

4 combined ducks by both the captains - this is ultra-rare!

We're getting closer to the long-awaited ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, and I think that it deserves a separate thread for discussion & analysis, so let's have it! Smiley
It is always good to have separate topic for every tournament and for tour matches. In the past, some people have tried to have separate topic for IPL and few other things, but most people prefer to contribute with same aged cricket topic. I really could not understand their reasons. It seems like they prefer to have one topic for one sport.

Those who're against separate topics for Cricket-related leagues/cups just simply don't like this sport! Grin

First match/final match: 30 May/14 July
I am just curious to know this community's opinion on : Who will be the predicted winner of final match and who are the favorites to play that final match ? I guess India and England may meet for the title, the top 2 countries of ICC ODI ranking.

I've got a feeling that the final match of the world cup will be played between New Zealand and England. Even though no one's mentioning New Zealand in the possible-cup-winner list, I still think that they've strong chances of winning the cup.

‘CWC 2019 once-in-a-generation opportunity’ – Tom Harrison

https://www.icc-cricket.com/news/949923

The way he speaks in the article it feels like he already believes England will win the cup, though England is my first choice i will carefully study any injuries their players may have. I also feel other teams are not in great form going into this World Cup, and will be exhausted as many will come from playing IPL. The Indian team that is the strongest will not be fit, as playing in IPL will surely effect them, and I believe non IPL players have a edge in the cup.

I completely agree with that; shifting the focus from T20 format to ODI format takes time, and the players who're going to participate in the 2019 World Cup shouldn't really play in the leagues like IPL and PSL. The teams which are probably going to be distracted the most through these leagues include India, West Indies, and Pakistan. Roll Eyes
2179  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: December 27, 2018, 10:43:41 PM
we're fucked

You married; spent about 10 years with your wife so far; your wife always came up to your expectations till now; the trust between you two grows. After all this time, your wife does something stupid. Now is the time to test that "trust" between you two. The question is, will you now stop trusting your wife after all this time?

Now consider bitcoin as your wife and read all of above again (with bitcoin = wife). Similar case with bitcoin; it has repeatedly proven itself. Is there really any need to get afraid of it at this point after all these years?

OMG! Seems like all the gold R0ach is hodling will soon be worthless:

Breakthrough: Chinese Scientists Turn Copper Into 'Gold'

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-12-23/breakthrough-chinese-scientists-turn-copper-gold

Did you even read the article and wonder why "gold" is in brackets.

Similar catalytic properties, how much gold is sold for its catalytic performance?

Probably cost about 500X the price of gold to produce too.

About as close to gold as a shitcoin is to BTC

True, I did read that; however, let's take the soul out of r0ach at least for a few seconds through that headline. Grin

This can definitely damage gold's value though, it'll eventually lessen the use of gold in electronic devices:
