1981  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Getting incorrect public key (in Java's bitcoin's public/private key generator) on: February 12, 2019, 07:13:43 PM
I'm pretty sure those are bitcoin addresses, not public key since public key and address uses different format[1]

There are 2 types of public key which are compressed and uncompressed and i think that's the problem/reason you got different bitcoin address from what you expect. But i didn't read the code, so i might be wrong.

Reference :
1. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/List_of_address_prefixes

That helped, thanks!
1982  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Getting incorrect public key (in Java's bitcoin's public/private key generator) on: February 12, 2019, 05:22:44 PM
EDIT: Got my confusion sorted out, thanks to ETFbitcoin

I'm getting a correct private key, but an incorrect public key, with the following java program:

Quote
import com.google.bitcoin.core.Base58;
import java.io.UnsupportedEncodingException;
import java.security.........

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

public static String to64(String s) {
    switch(s.length()) {
    case 62: return "00" + s;
    case 63: return "0" + s;
    case 64: return s;
    default:
        throw new IllegalArgumentException("Invalid key: " + s);
        }
}

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

public static void main(String[] args) throws NoSuchAlgorithmException, InvalidAlgorithmParameterException, UnsupportedEncodingException, NoSuchProviderException {

Security.addProvider(new org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider());

KeyPairGenerator keyGen = KeyPairGenerator.getInstance("EC");
ECGenParameterSpec secp = new ECGenParameterSpec("secp256k1");
keyGen.initialize(secp);
KeyPair kp = keyGen.generateKeyPair();
PublicKey pub = kp.getPublic();
PrivateKey pvt = kp.getPrivate();

ECPrivateKey epvt = (ECPrivateKey)pvt;
String sepvt = to64(epvt.getS().toString(16)).toUpperCase();

ECPublicKey epub = (ECPublicKey)pub;

ECPoint pt = epub.getW();
String sx = to64(pt.getAffineX().toString(16)).toUpperCase();
String sy = to64(pt.getAffineY().toString(16)).toUpperCase();
String bcPub = "04" + sx + sy;

MessageDigest sha = MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA-256");
byte[] s1 = sha.digest(bcPub.getBytes("UTF-8"));

MessageDigest rmd = MessageDigest.getInstance("RipeMD160", "BC");

byte[] r1 = rmd.digest(s1);
byte[] r2 = new byte[r1.length + 1];

r2[0] = 0;

System.arraycopy(r1, 0, r2, 1, r1.length);

byte[] s2 = sha.digest(r2);
byte[] s3 = sha.digest(s2);
byte[] a1 = new byte[25];

System.arraycopy(r2, 0, a1, 0, r2.length);
System.arraycopy(s3, 0, a1, 20, 5);

System.out.println("Public Key: " + Base58.encode(a1));
System.out.println("Private Key: " + sepvt);}}

For example, instead of:

I should get:

Public key: 1BuXQcCU7eQA6z5N5qqNUubjQLk3vrATVk
Private key: 93B16A46CF1D71E79CA28BFFA8499B6F7412BEB1514CC6FE271AED19F3FAF946

Any idea what I'm doing wrong here?

Without any context to indicate otherwise, I'm just going to assume this is part of an "I know how to beat the market! Pay me to learn my secrets!" scam that's always popping up in one form or another. Be careful, people.

True; the worst part is, some people really do get fooled by such edits. I just edited my long at BitMEX and:

Hey! I'm up 13067% in this bear market! Pay me just 0.05 BTC and get my signals regularly! Grin

P.S. forgive me for mathematical errors in the edit!

I think that guy was only trolling; why would he keep the camera focus on the words instead of the Ledger device? Roll Eyes

Justin's tweets have been quite funny lately:

Moreover, people around commenting in his tweet really succeed in making him look like a total joker. BTW, Tron, overall, is nothing but a troll.
1986  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Crypto Fungus has just closed his short for a 12,800% profit. on: February 12, 2019, 01:34:54 PM
I'd definitely like to know who this guy "Crypto Fungus" actually is, and I'm totally unable to find anything about him on Google or Twitter. I think it'd be great if you could add some details about him in the OP of the thread.

About the "12800%" profit, if someone's showing you an image as a proof, don't forget that it could easily be edited. This could also only be a tactic to gain "followers" or something, BTW.

Right now England doing good job and they already have 400 Runs lead on board Root is near his century hopefully after completing this he will give few ours to West Indian batsmen and they can win this match on fourth day
If the West Indies could bat well in the fourth innings then it can be a draw and England can have a relief that they did not get white washed by West Indies, i am interested to see how England will perform in the one day series before the world cup, i really thought they had a really good team coming into this world cup and i considered them to be in the finals, but with the display in the test series they did not look like world beaters.

I don't see any chances of a draw; England should be able to win this one easily. Two whole days are left, and even with the current lead (which I think is sufficient enough), England will be able to defend it IMO.

England does have a couple of ODI series before the big world cup (the second ODI series is against Pakistan), and the performance of the English team in these ODIs should give us a good signal of how they're going to perform in the world cup.
1989  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Binance: $BNB The Future of Exchanges. on: February 11, 2019, 09:28:25 PM
BNB has now officially reached its new ATH against BTC (1 BNB = 0.0026888 BTC). Nice work, CZ!

Binance’s BNB Token Hits All-Time High in Bitcoin Value

https://www.coindesk.com/binances-bnb-token-hits-all-time-high-in-bitcoin-value

~snip~

I never recommend buying because at any time that could be wrong. And of course, the price went up quite a bit lately, so a correction could be near. But I, for myself, think longterm. My reasons to be bullish are...

1) the fundamental reasons listed in my last post and
2) if BNB is so strong during a shaky bear market I consider it as very good longterm bet, once the market turns and the sentiment becomes better again. We've seen Ethereum at a marketcap of over $120 bn.

And I believe the Binance Chain will be superior - while it will not be about Smart Contracts, it will exactly be about what has lead Ethereum into a hype --> Issuance of Tokens. And I also believe that will become much more serious and professional in future, while Ethereum will probably not be the number 1 Blockchain to go anymore, but Binance-Chain - also because of their coming DEX.

Long-term, I believe it can reach brand new all-time-highs (in USD) easily. However, even for a long-term hold, I do think that that it'll be much better if you wait for the right time before investing in it at the current price (which is actually an all-time high vs. BTC). It'd be more appropriate if we wait for a correction here. Let the price calm down, to somewhat like <0.0019 BTC, that way, you'll get about 25% more BNB if compared with the current price.
1990  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Binance: $BNB The Future of Exchanges. on: February 10, 2019, 08:40:43 PM
Does anyone think binance coin is very stable?  Is it a good buy right now?  Seems to keep going up and stay steady while other coins are going up but not that much.

It has pumped a lot in the past few days; it's touching its all-time-high versus BTC right now. So no, I'll never recommend anybody to enter any BNB trade at this stage. Not a good time to enter anymore, IMO.

Binance-Chain is coming soon.
Binance-DEX is coming soon.
Binance goes international, enables Fiat and makes hundreds of millions of profit in a bear market and burns BNB

I believe it's one of the best in Crypto, especially in this depressive-shaky market.

Correct, that's exactly why it has managed to get pumped this much in the past few weeks. However, I've got a feeling that the "buy the rumor, sell the news" rule will apply here as soon as the Binance-Chain testnet (and DEX) is launched.

So, I'd not prefer/recommend entering in a BNB trade at this stage.

StableUSD (USDS), another stablecoin ($1 USDS = $1 USD), has been added to Binance exchange.

Actually, no, it doesn't follow bitcoin closely like other alts. Have a look at this:

Comparing it with other big market-cap coins (including bitcoin):

This is one unique case - and it's all because of one truly genius guy (CZ). I wish I had kept my whole portfolio in BNB throughout this bear market!

Today again, bitcoin is down while BNB is up:

BTC-wise, BNB is going for a new ATH today; simply amazing!
1995  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Cardano (ADA): A New Cryptocurrency and More on: February 09, 2019, 11:09:47 PM
A new roadmap for Cardano will be introduced on the 18th of April (or slightly after that) of this year:

The Cardano roadmap is changing. We will be launching an exciting new roadmap which showcases the Cardano 2020 vision after the IOHK Summit, which will be taking place on April 17-18. CEO Charles Hoskinson will outline this vision in his keynote speech and the roadmap will be relaunched with a renewed focus on this milestone. For the time being, we will be removing the timer on the roadmap page as well as publishing intermittent updates about important software releases.

Team IOHK

It is interesting to keep eye on this project surely it will make this more great than before the development going on much faster. Cardano is project for next generation and it will open the door of opportunities and will make involve in this.

weird that the initials AF were in the filename and are also the beginning of your nickname but it stands for Dragon Ball AF.

Hah, that's quite a coincidence! Having a fanart of Dragon Ball in an avatar, and keeping the first two letters of username as "AF" (the fanmade unofficial series of Dragon Ball), without actually knowing anything about Dragon Ball, is hilarious. Grin

"wasted"

 It's a Canadian synonym for spent.  I use the same term every time I buy anything!

"I wasted my dollars on buying bitcoin"... sounds quite awful.

Do they have scales or hair or both?

They are pure hair; true Saiyans (like Goku and Vegeta) are born with a very fixed hairstyle, and they do not grow (or shrink) in their whole lives, even after their death.

Speaking of the powers that be, does anyone know how many variations of Dragon Balls there are?  I spent a few hours watching old Dragon Balls videos on YouTube just to figure out what character was in afbitcoins avatar... turns out it isn't Vegeta!  Who knew?

That's a Vegito SSJ (the fusion between Goku and Vegeta) fanart.

AMA related to Dragon Balls! Grin
Doesn't look very vegito to me, Vegito has that blue and orange jumpsuit.

That's because it's a fan-art.

Just found this... Amazing - Zooko was literally shilling a referral URL till late 2011!

I withdrew a non-negligible amount of USD from TradeHill by simply filling out a form on the site and clicking submit. The resulting page said that they would put a check in the mail that same business day. Apparently they did! Because that was only last Thursday, if I recall correctly, and the check arrived today.

So this is just a report for anyone who wants to know that there was no delay, confusion or extra steps.

Here's my TradeHill referral code. So far I've made about $0.50 in referral bonuses, so it isn't so much that I hope to make a lot of money by passing out my referral code, but it does give you 10% off of their normal fees if you sign up with it:

Zooko
