Been encountering a strange occurrence when trying to sync blockchain which is that my modem keeps resetting itself at least a couple of times every hour. Anyone else found anything like this? What could be causing that? It also often resets as I start up bitmonerod.. very strange

Thanks for the links about XT, makes very interesting reading

Got it compiled this time, now busy syncing the blockchain. Looks like it is going to take a while..
Its very verbose, lots of messages scrolling past which don't mean much to me. Guess that doesn't matter though.
Thanks for you help, much appreciated.

Ginger Ale I'm using Ubuntu 14.04
Monero should have stable releases more frequently its crazy to either use a really out of date version or take pot luck what the latest version is like.
Anyway I'll give it another go pulling another version of the code down...

All this bearishness, whatever happened to my end of the bear trend. Agree with the twitter post, I think $190 is a critical price, matches a key trendline on long term chart.

If it gets below $190 I think there will be a washout.

@Ginger Ale, I've had a go at compiling the Monero code as you suggested a few pages back in this thread and and by using the instructions in your sig. Assuming latest version of code is best ? I am hitting a problem which is after about 90% of the way through compiling after typing 'make' I get a fatal error like this [ 89%] Building CXX object tests/unit_tests/CMakeFiles/unit_tests.dir/blockchain_db.cpp.o In file included from /home/user/bitmonero/tests/unit_tests/blockchain_db.cpp:40:0: /home/user/bitmonero/src/blockchain_db/berkeleydb/db_bdb.h:28:20: fatal error: db_cxx.h: No such file or directory #include <db_cxx.h> ^ compilation terminated. make[3]: *** [tests/unit_tests/CMakeFiles/unit_tests.dir/blockchain_db.cpp.o] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/user/bitmonero/build/release' make[2]: *** [tests/unit_tests/CMakeFiles/unit_tests.dir/all] Error 2 make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/user/bitmonero/build/release' make[1]: *** [all] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/user/bitmonero/build/release' make: *** [release-all] Error 2
Wondered if you have any pointers how to get past that ? There are some binary files in my bin folder but I prefer to see everything compile properly before trying them.. Thanks

There is an economic war for sure. I've heard some interesting theories about the explosions in China as retaliation for currency devaluations ..
The US dollar is well past its sell by date, other countries are beginning to move away. But dollar won't go without a fight.

Knifes edge can be viewed as this trendline I reckon. If price gets below there (currently about $190) then who knows where it will stop falling. More likely in my opinion price will stay above

You want a line on a chart. Here you go.. Does this mean bitcoin will stay above the line ? No Does this mean bitcoin will go below the line? No But for me this is a useful way to understand the market. If its a waste of time for you then why the fuck look at charts, feel free to skip right past. There is no certain way of predicting markets, it is insane to blame technical analysis for that.

One of my charts is in that vid. at 5 mins mark. There is another freaky co-incidence in there but reasons of privacy I'll keep that one to myself

its likely that the XT Vs Core war will continue for months at most nearly a year!
will price continue to decline until this is resolved?
how much FUD can you handle, before you call it quits and sell?
Two words: double digits I don't expect double digits but just supposing it does happen, double digits from this point would never be recovered from in effect the end of bitcoin as top crypto. Which alt would take the baton ?

Thought I'd update my cup n handle chart, despite wedge (in previous charts on this thread) breaking downwards still looks to me like handle is potentially forming. Cup took almost 5 months to form so handle taking a while to complete is not a big surprise. Waiting for bullish moves supposing the upper green line of the handle is finally broken. If price continues falling below about $254 where lower trendline lies then i'll consider chart pattern looks invalid.

I really want to like monero but the barriers to entry seem huge almost to the point of me giving up.
First off there is no 32 bit linux version. Despite this being a major annoyance to me I've changed my OS to a 64 bit version. This hasn't got me much further though. I'm not a linux noob btw.
I'm trying to run the latest stable version which is 0.8.8.6 After several annoyances with dependencies with libboost i finally can start up bitmonerod
I am still unable to sync the blockchain though.
Firstly I've tried downloading the latest copy (currently about 4.2 G) but download keeps failing and I can't resume and have to start again. Can there not be a torrent or something ?
So instead I try syncing from scratch. Initially it said I am about 481 days behind. However I've tested exiting the daemon and found that regularly doesn't shutdown cleanly which results in all the syncing of that session lost.
I see message
'Stop signal sent'
but then the computer hangs and the changes to the blockchain do not appear to be saved. I've reluctant to leave it running for 2 days to sync the blockchain only to find nothing gets saved at the end!
This doesn't even yet get into the simple wallet. How does it work? Wheres the instructions ?
I am not going to buy monero until I can hold off exchange.
If you want to know why monero price is stagnant, I think these are the reasons .
