1421  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: June 15, 2015, 02:43:07 AM
My c1 is not reseting whit the reset button. i am using Cooler Master Real Power M1000 1000w

I can get to SSH login but cant login previous owner didnt give me the pass...

any solution to this?  Huh Huh

Yes luckily with the SD card it is very easy to recover.   You can use Win32DiskImager or others and put the image on the sd card.    If you use one of the restore images throughout though this thread it will be default password's.

There's a link in post #2 of the thread to an image posted on mega. Time travellers feel free to PM me if it goes down, I have a copy.
1422  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool on: June 15, 2015, 02:38:52 AM
A run of 10 blocks, 70% of the network.
You better hope they don't keep doing that ...

Is there a reason other than the 50% attack theory?
'Theory' ... lol

I called it a theory because it requires one of the largest companies in bitcoin to either attempt to destroy bitcoin [or to be horrendously hacked] which doesn't seem likely. They'd stand to lose probably $XXX,XXX,XXX if they tried a 50%, to gain what?
No, the 51% attack isn't just an attack by evil empires. Of course it can even happen below 51%, but once a pool hash rate gets high enough it will automatically be able to overlord the block chain. There is advantage in being a higher hash rate, that people wont obviously notice. Bitmain has proven their lack of giving a crap about the bitcoin community and lying (either by design or by stupidity) about what they have done. Continued

Only just found this post but I feel its important to respond.

Their p2pool project was simply a centralised p2pool that they tried to garner interest in by falsely claiming it was decentralised.
"P2Pool" was a terrible translation issue which led to incorrect claims. AntPool was never meant to join onto the original P2Pool network but was designed to decentralise pools. Bitmain spent $100,000s of man hours developing the open source pool software in the hope that others would host their own pools and break the network down into smaller chunks. That never happened, partially because of the technical difficulty in running a pool, the risk in holding miners' funds and because people want the biggest pool. Nothing about AntPool or its intentions is malicious and neither is open sourcing pool software.

Bitmain has proven their lack of giving a crap about the bitcoin community and lying (either by design or by stupidity) about what they have done. Their recent statement that expending anything on support of S1/S2/S3 is a waste of money even though they are the basis by which they became one of the largest companies in bitcoin and most of that hardware is still out there - a lot of it not even 12 months old.
The oldest S2s are now 440 days old, S3s 349 days old and S4s are 263 days old [410, 319, 233 at the time of his post]. At some point you have to draw the line, as does every other software company. For example, do you support users running cgminer 3.x, or do you tell them to update to the latest version?

Their pool was creating empty blocks that are bad for bitcoin and I pointed that out last year and again this year ... no response about having fixed that anywhere ...
Yes it was a bad thing.

They ignored the GPLv3 license with cgminer on multiple accounts and gave internal processes being slow as their crappy excuse for violating the license in all cases when they finally did release the cgminer driver code. They ignored the GPLv3 for over a year regarding the SPI kernel driver and have only recently released that.
So they did release the drivers, where is the malicious intent there? If they wanted to "screw the community" they'd have said "no" and never posted a thing.

[sarcasm]Yeah they have a really good track record there - of course they wouldn't do anything untoward[/sarcasm]
The examples you've provided demonstrate no malicious intent nor willingness to do evil. On top of that you've still not explained why a company with probably the most vested financial interest in the world in Bitcoin succeeding would actively try and destroy Bitcoin. Its like claiming someone will burn down their own house just to wake you up at night. It doesn't make sense.
1423  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: The combined sidehack-novak usb stick review thread. AKA GekkoScience BM1384 on: June 14, 2015, 02:41:00 AM
I don't think you guys are going to get an accurate GH/W using killawatt or similar at the wall meters for such a small load. There are just too many other sources of error other than the USB stick that the readings won't mean much. Now if you were measuring 10x sticks on a hub for example, then you'd get closer to a true reading.

1428  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What does "taint analyis" on blockchain.info really mean? on: June 13, 2015, 12:30:26 PM
Here is the full quote:

Quote
The taint is the percentage of funds received by an address that can be traced back to another address. An example of a taint analysis is: https://blockchain.info/taint/1dice6GV5Rz2iaifPvX7RMjfhaNPC8SXH

Tldr its the proportional origin of the coins (expressed in %). So if A sent to a fresh address B, the taint analysis for B would be 100% A. If C then sent the same amount to B, the taint analysis for B would then show 50% A and 50% C. [Unless I have also misunderstood it? Does it go back multiple levels?]

It seems that the page numbers of this thread is shrinking.
We don't remove messages.

If a user gets nuked their posts will disappear, and so large threads like this one can shrink when not so active.
1430  Other / Bitcoin Wiki / Re: Proposal: ads on the wiki on: June 13, 2015, 01:15:29 AM
Can you give us an estimate of wiki traffic and costs, how much is saved by opening that gateway?

In the last 7 days there have been 2,240,172 requests from 152,385 unique IPs.

I can't estimate long-term ongoing costs now with any sort of accuracy because the wiki isn't on its final server yet, I'm not sure whether the final server will be sufficient, and I'm not sure how much work bawolff will need to do in the long-term (right now he's doing a lot of work to get the wiki in good shape).

The ads will need to be manually approved, and maybe new or dangerous-looking services should be disallowed.

I see what you mean, that's quite a bit of traffic to ignore.

Round 150 of forum ads totalled 20btc for 11370k page views for 13 days, and round 149 26btc for 25000k page views for 20 days. Working that though = $0.41 CPM and $0.24 CPM respectively. This is such a small data set that its useless for anything but a ballpark figure, which is all we actually need.

Self hosted auctions require manual administration and time and are vulnerable to demand dropoffs. You'll also have to manually screen content and create the ads. There is also no penalty for running advertising cycles longer than the required time, and you get paid for impressions / clicks rather than time.

Adsense pays $0.50 - $1.00 CPM, automatically runs auctions, automatically screens users and adverts, doesn't require any advertisement and is tied back to $ to pay the costs which are in $. For something so clean and isolated I can't see any reason why adsense shouldn't be used. Using $0.50 CPM adsense would be paying $160 which should be plenty, $5k a month cheque.

What sort of functions are needed on the wiki, is it specifically content? Mods? Technical?
1431  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Hash algorithm that cannot be implemented in ASIC ? on: June 12, 2015, 10:26:23 PM
What about another solution which I haven't yet seen mentioned:

Every x blocks, you change algorithm.

You don't need a pool of 1000 algorithms and could get by with a rotation of 3 or 4. Even if someone built an ASIC for 1 algorithm, they'd only be able to use it on your coin for 25-33% of the time which is unlikely to be viable for the ASIC manufacturer. I'm sure I'm missing some terminal complication on the client side which would prevent algorithm hopping, but I think it works on the hardware side of things in terms of preventing ASICs.

they took the money in preorders and grew on the backs of the small miners
now that they are at other level, they say: adios!

dude where are they going? From what I understand they are still making miners!!

Not for you anyway. BCTS will have exclusive rights over future miners.

Maybe.

That's a rather vague statement. I could simply mean they get first shot at them, or that they get them first, all the way through control of product marketing. Without seeing the specific language, we have no idea what is exclusive to them.

It could absolutely mean either, yes. It appears to represent that they have control over the generation, so its up to them what they do with it. For example they could keep it to themselves until they fill most of their capacity then sell it to 'consumers' [other big ass farms]. Do remember that they'll also have every incentive not to screw the ST part of the business as they'll be majority shareholders, so even if it means waiving their first dibs they may just sell to others from the start if its the most profitable.
1434  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: June 12, 2015, 10:14:11 PM
Looking at it from the front, in the s4, which board is which chain?
One of my original B2 s4's is acting up and finally failed in a manner that kept the controller/GUI accessible. Says that chain 3 is all ----------
Cheers!

Someone made a text diagram early on in this thread but I can't find it, and my S4 is probably different to most as it was an early one. The dead board might be highlighted by no LED activity though, worth a look.
1435  Other / Meta / Re: Main Account Banned for Spamming (Help) on: June 11, 2015, 12:53:08 PM
Props for being honest at least, I respect that. Most just play dumb or actively lie about it.

But then you continued posting, and are trying to buy another account to continue posting, while being banned.

Kind of a wash there.

Happy to see someone cares about the forum. Thumbs up BadBear

Maybe his honesty should be rewarded with a tentative second chance. If he's actually willing to sit out his ban then that is better than 90% of the spammers.

Ps, are you Kirk or McCoy?
1436  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BITMAIN AntMiner APW3-12-1600 PSU Series on: June 11, 2015, 11:33:15 AM
Man, some of you guys are fucking annoying. Get off of Dogie's case, or start a thread dedicated to Dogie bashing so you folks can congregate there and circle jerk each other in privacy so we don't have to continually read your fucking useless drivel.

Since none of you geniuses actually have one of these, I'll comment on them. I've got 3 S4+, and so far they're running great. Not a single issue. They seem much better than what came with S4s, by a long shot. Will they die in 2 months? Who the fuck knows. If BITMAIN is serious about these PSUs, they should send a sample to Oklahoma Wolf over at jonnyguru.com. He'll reveal the truth about this PSU in short order. (BITMAIN: If you're interested in this, I can set it up... Just PM me)

About those 2 pictures posted earlier... The first has nothing to even do with the PSU, it's a heat sink fin loose in the main S4 case. BITMAIN QC failure for sure, things like that are hardware killers. The second picture is of a pinched 12V fan wire inside the PSU. Yep, another QC issue, but one that falls on the PSU OEM, not BITMAIN. BITMAIN can't be expected to open up every PSU to check them out for physical damage, in fact they'd probably cause more problems than they'd catch if they did. What that picture tells me, is that the short circuit protection works perfectly in that PSU, and it saved the PSU from failure. You'd be a fool to think this only happens to BITMAIN hardware. Pinched wires have happened with Delta PSUs, Flextronic PSUs, Seasonic PSUs, etc... Shit happens. It'll just happen much less with the big boys I just mentioned.

Now, this PSU is a no-go for me. 18AWG wires and unknown quality means I'll stick to used server hardware made by the likes of Delta.

Which would you use to replace the PSU that has stopped working in an S4. The PSU is connected by bolts to the board not a PCI

DPS-2000 + breakout board + S4's cables. You'll have to check if the breakout board has a limit per wire channel, I don't remember one.

Honestly, I don't see what BTCS brings to the table except cash.

What else do you need, 1xnm is crazy expensive and needs to be paid for somehow.
1439  Other / Meta / Re: somebody hacked my bitcointalk account on: June 10, 2015, 11:08:19 PM
See this thread on how to recover your account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=497545.0

You are going to need to find a Bitcoin address from several months ago, preferably quoted, and sign a message and send it Theymos.

Doesn't need to be quoted if the post hasn't been edited in months.
1440  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.319/GH & 0.51W/GH on: June 10, 2015, 10:12:44 PM
@bitmain why did you enclose the S3 with a case and 2 fans and leave the S5 wide open with only one LOUD fan? this is terrible for airflow.....you could probably have used a less noisy fan if u enclosed it with a case like the S3.

You can make (or order) the case by yourself. Without it S5 became lighter, so the shipping is cheaper.

Heat dissipation is developed not so good in case of S5, so it needs a powerful (it inevitable means LOUD) fan. Sure they could sell S5 equiped with two less noisy fans (most of us make such mod), or they could sell S5 without fan at all. But we got what we got.

Recently I placed all S5 to the basement, so I installed a Gembird DC120SF-12AS3 120x120x38 fan as a push fan, and stock fan as a pull (on my new 2 S5s since stock fans on them are appearantly much quieter than it was before, on earlier S5s). It works OK now.  Smiley
where can i order a case?

There has been some impressive 3d printing of parts some of which enclose the center of the miner - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1072176.0

It's fairly recent and Bitmain even supported it by sending it's OP a little coin.  I would check it out if your thinking about enclosing the S5.

i think 3d printing stuff might be overkill. i put a 1/16 inch piece of acrylic on the bottom (because i havea wire shelf) and cut a piece of card board for the top (for testing purposes) and now my blades are the same temp. before they were 4-5c apart and one would always be hotter. now they are the exact same temp most of the time. ant this is just with some crappy cardboard cut out. imagine if i had a fully enclosed aluminum case. I dont have the tools to make a metal case or a plastic one for the matter. maybe really glossy poster board will work since it has a more smooth surface. which might be better for airflow.

Considering the heat generated, paper is a bad idea.

NO there isn't, unless you suspect Spark or Flame. Papers ignition is tempature 218–246c. The ignition temperature of corrugated cardboard is 427 C, or 800 F. Source: http://www.tis-gdv.de/tis_e/ware/papier/wellpapp/wellpapp.htm

Its not the ignition of paper which is a problem, its the combustibility. If you set light to an S5 the materials would self extinguish within the required timeframe of the standards. When you add in paper it interrupts this process and can spread a fire from the S5 to other materials in the vicinity as its going to burn until termination.
