Oh, that would be so jolly good, JollyGood. Hey, maybe Mark Karpeles will also come around and return the over half billion dollars worth of crypto he stole. Or maybe Joshua Zipkin of AMT will turn a new leaf and return the millions he stole. Or maybe Josh Zerlan will return the moneys he indirectly stole from users. Or maybe Josh Garza will return the millions he stole.

Or maybe I'm just joshing you because it makes me feel jolly good.  Tongue Tongue Tongue

I think it would be karma if Paul Vernon was stung by his Chinese girlfriend and dumped after she took him to the cleaners just like he took us to the cleaners via Cryptsy. I would be so jolly at receiving the good news Smiley

I have no idea about these names you mentioned above because I only came back on the crypto forums a few weeks ago after a hiatus. I do feel sorry for all those who were scammed by the people you mentioned.

The link you provided at Bithomp shows transaction taking place where millions of XRP are moved around! Paul Vernon got filthy rich by ripping off his own customers.

The word conscious and Paul Vernon don't belong in the same sentence or paragraph regardless the context.

True... it remains a sad situation which can be resolved so easily IF the biggest protagonist (Paul Vernon) stepped out of the shadow and apologised to everyone and then paid back the BTC because even after all he spent the value of BTC has rocketed. Whatever he has left can easily pay back everyone he scammed but the man has no concious as you so aptly commented.

EXCELLENT POINT!

Even though it's probably too late, technically it's NOT too late to do the right thing & make thousands of traders whole again.

PERV VERN needs a CONSCIENCE, although being "CONSCIOUS" would help too.

Yeah, I'm sure that the name Josh Zerlan wouldn't have crossed your radar given that he was only involved in a small-time operation that barely received any news, and most likely that fiasco - if one could refer to it as such - occurred during your hiatus, 2012-present I assume.

Oh, and that Mark Karpeles dude is even lesser known than Josh Zerlan, thus there's no way you could've possibly heard about him or of the woman who committed suicide in Singapore days prior to the collapse of Mark's little company.

What I would also like to know, is how much money was recovered in total, and what is the amount the lawyers will get for this (at 33%)
In all of the paperwork I have not seen the total amount available.

This settlement leaves open options for going after cryptsy and vern... That makes me happy.

Is this figure of 33% going to the lawyers actually stated in the paperwork? If that is the case, is there any connection between the organisers of the class suit asking these lawyers to fight the case and their own link with the lawyers? If there is a conflict of interest then surely that in itself is plain wrong

The Cryptsy Lawsuit is Over. The Judge issued the Final Order on June 13....Next Coinbase.

It's all in here. This is the Motion Approved by the Judge on June 13, 2017 :

http://cryptsyreceivership.com/v1/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Motion-for-Final-Approval-of-Settlements.pdf

Yes, the Lawyers get 33%. I read The House will net around $800,000 after the Realtor fees and costs.

The total is around 1.5 Million, to be split amongst the Lawyers and the Approved Claimants. A little over 1,600 met the Deadline and filed Claims.

They have not stated yet how many were approved.

One note of concern, is the Receiver stated that Just One Claimant's Claim is for more the the Entire Settlements Fund so let's hope that one gets Rejected Smiley

http://cryptsyreceivership.com/v1/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Response-to-Objections-to-Settlements.pdf

Did I read that right? Since no proof exist, all ~1680 claimants will get an equal share of the available loot minus lawyers fees, equating to ~U$470? Or is the available money doled out according to percentages?

"diminished pro rata recovery"

http://cryptsyreceivership.com/v1/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/Response-to-Objections-to-Settlements.pdf

Thanks, Tommy. I should've Google "Pro Rata" prior to asking, whereupon I would've easily been brought up to speed. Claimants will be rewarded (what a funny fuckin word in this context) proportionally according to their claim that according to the lawyers' docs CANNOT be verified because the server was successfully 100% erased. Ergo, any Tom, Dick or Harry willing to put in some effort could easily game the system, including the lawyers and receiver.

I remember not too far back when Decred was conducting their airdrop campaign. I came along and demonstrated how their airdrop model could easily be gamed. I was met with discontent and assured that NO WAY IN FUCKIN HELL would gamers bypass their defense mechanisms. I said "Really!" Then I proceeded to create 10 user accounts so to game their system which they said couldn't be gamed. Success! All ten accounts where funded during the airdrop, whereupon I quickly sold off the amassed tokens because ... wait for it ... I knew in my heart that no way in hell they would be worth anything because I'm such a fuckin genius.  Grin Today: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/decred/  Cry Cry Cry

Believe me Bruno, I know the Feeling Sad  I had 110,000 XRP on Cryptsy. Today worth 13.1285 BTC.

The way the Settlement was Done, My Claim goes back to November 1, 2015 (The Official Date set by the Lawyers), when BTC was around $330.00 and my account Value was around 1 BTC Sad

I have no Idea how People proved their claims as of that Date (Nov. 1, 2015), as most, including myself, only started taking screenshots, when it was brought up in this Forum at a much later date. I was Trading right up until the End around January 17, 2016

My Problem, as others have mentioned,  is how do/would the Lawyers know that a Claimant with a high BTC Balance didn't get out with their money AFTER November 1, 2015 Huh

Tommy, I don't know what's crazier - you investing ~U$500 in Ripple at one time in hopes of it going to the moon or that once the smoke clears and the lawyers are paid, you'll receive ~U$7.14 as compensation for your initial ~U$500 lost on Cryptsy, of which you would've received, perhaps, close to U$8.00 if there weren't so many bogus claims made due to lawyers letting everybody know that the servers were erased, thus impossible to verify claims.

Who would've thunk that there'll been an ~U$35K spread on an ~U$500 investment as depicted above made less than two years ago?

Oh darn! I wish I had registered in time for the class action. I have emails and such things which can show some transactions. I feel gutted now regardless of whether I got back $0.05 per $100 or anything else because it was still recognition that I was swindled.

I hope that Paul Vernon gets caught pronto - Lord bring him to his senses and allow him to return the stolen property back to its owners.

Exactly, with Leroy Fodor undoubtedly inflating his lost so to at the end the day use the windfall to rebuild the largest bitcoin mining farm in all the Philippines complete with a west-facing solar array on a hot tin roof surrounded on three sides (not the south) by towering trees powering the farm with enough energy left over to run the grocery store, disco, internet cafe, and living quarters in the basement. Patrons visiting Leroy's sorry-as Sari Sari will again be treated with roasted hog cook daily on his piggery served with fresh mangos and coconuts sourced from his organic farm. The more I read about this the more I feel sorry for the investors. How can Paul Vernon sleep at night knowing what he did?

I hope he becomes a born again Christian, or becomes Muslim or maybe even a Buddhist or starts following some other faith... either way if he finds inner peace after he finds the good Lord in any way shape or form, then maybe his concious will force him to hand over the funds to the authorities.

@Gleb Gamow
Paul Vernon was an idiot for doing what he did. If he managed the exchange properly for just a couple of years more he would have been in a position to seek investment which would have put the company worth at hundreds of millions of US$ and he would have become a household name with positive conotations. What an idiot.

It can be hard feeling sorry for people sometimes though.
90% of the coins were OBVIOUS pointless garbage traded simply for profits.
The clients were simply profiteers hoping to get rich off of shitcoins.
Hell even when it was obvious it was a scam, user activity spiked higher.
Because of GREED.

And many of these dumb pieces of shit will get money from the settlement too.
Once people caught on the Doge wallet was getting topped up regularly users were saying it was a way out.
Then people flooded onto it soaring the price.. creating a bottleneck stampede of users trying to exit Cryptsy and scumbags trying to capitalize on the situation by monetizing a sinking ship.

It was like standing at a fire exit in an apartment fire charging people money to leave.
THEN !
Loitering around afterwards for sympathy and settlement money.
When they were just there in the first place to make money off Kitteh Coin and Elephant Coin etc.  Roll Eyes

But yeah Vern is WORSE hahahha  Grin

I am presenting the reality here.
It was all bullshit anyway.. which is why i quit like 2 year earlier with Cryptsy trading.
They lived high on the hog and would simply lie to you.. mouth you off, then ban you.
Cryptsy staffers ego got big !
So i left.. i had no interest in being fed lies when my coins vanished anymore (while trying to arb)
I had enough of that from other places like BTER at the time.

But yeah my point.. Wink

Vern is probably thinking these assholes deserved it.
And in a way many of them actually did too.

They would defend adding some coins by citing "user demand"
It was their go to defense to make money off this crap.
Many times i said would you give your kids candy & cookies for dinner every night ?

So they add them then BLAME YOU GUYS with the "demand" excuse.
They add scammy ass pointless garbage then say oh we had to.. "user demand"

Although all exchanges do that.
So i can see it was either they play along or people go else where.
I said i never envied their jobs.
They would be screwed if you do and screwed if you don't.

But people in key prominent positions share a responsibility to ensure crypto is moving in the right direction.
And Cryptsy was shirking on it's duties for a long time.

Luck7coin ?
Why are they blaming a coin they should never have added ?
Why was the code not vetted ?
Why did the wallet guy mullick run a compiled wallet ?

Simple.. they lied.

I hope Paul Vernon makes a plea bargain with the authorities in the U S of A in which he is allowed to return back "home" to Miami (or where ever) and in return he surrenders the $7m or so that he stole.

Add to that an extra 50% on top of the original losses as a form of compensation so that makes his pay up around $10.5m and finally for him to pick up the legal fees so the lawyers will not eat in to the final fee.

That leaves Paul Vernon with well over $10m and that is enough for him to live in Miami or anywhere else with his ex-wife and his Chinese girlfriend.

Come on Paul Vernon, have some heart...

Where exactly are you thinking paul got all this cash? He ran off to China to start his new exchange bitebi9, and it failed miserably because he was trying to convince everyone he was not involved. Even the Chinese company was saying they are not involved with cryptsy while using the code right outta the box. In any event, I Dont believe that he is the one who stole the 13k btc in the first place. He would have been smart enough to liquidate it fast and THEN take off.

Whoever stole those coins (I believe) lost / destroyed the keys. more than likely cause they were gonna get caught and didnt want to be found having them. There is no other reason for the coins to still be sitting in that wallet. Unless the person who stole the coins is in jail and will try to recover them when they get out. Additionally,  There is no evidence that Paul is the one who wiped the servers that I am aware of. They were wiped for sure, but what would paul have gained from it? He already stole everything he could carry, and ran off not caring what was left as he was never coming back. No matter what was found on those servers, he would never have faced any repercussions over it. The server wipe looks more of a cover up after the fact. An employee who decided that they would get in trouble if anything were found on that server showing the truth about how much they knew. If the employees knew about the whole hack and stolen coin thing, they would be implicated and might even face jail time as they are unable to run away and leave the country like paul. So who had more to gain here? Try to figure out who had anything to gain from trashing the servers.

Just me looking around... what do I  know.

Was there a login trail as to where the person was located who erased the servers? If I recall correctly, there's certain parts of the servers that ONLY Paul Vernon had access to. Please correct if I'm wrong, guys.

Better add another 50% for the poor overworked lawyers......they do get there cut first...

@spamsucks
The only thing that makes sense is that when people approached him asking him about the hacking rumours, for months he said everything was alright and then vanished after convincing the world everything was fine.

Blaming employees and so on is one way of looking at it, the other way to look at it is simply that Paul was the owner and in-charge. He is ultimately liable whether he stole 13,000 BTC or if somebody else did. So far everything has been blamed on him because he ran off, that might not prove guilt but is sure gives a great indicator.
