In case of Nadal I know we are already talking about his decline, but it is just a year ago that he won the French Open. I also doubt that he can come back as strong as ever, but there is still his triumph that is only 12 months old. In between he had surgeries and lacked training accordingly of course, but maybe he is fully determined to give it one more year and do the maximum in order to be able to exactly go that one year.
Injuries have a way of affecting an athlete's performance. They have a very good chance of struggling to get back up to their optimal performance. Nadal can win another GS, but he will struggle for it.

Djokovic's style changed a bit. He was more into long rallies and nonstop running and covering the court from left to right, defending the craziest shots. But now he is forcing more of those shorter rallies by going straight to the net very early. It works well for him and if he finds a way to not put too much burden onto his body during most the game, he might be playing for another three years or even more. Federer won his last GS title at age 37.5. That is 1.5 years to go for Djokovic from now.
The way Djokovic plays shows he will still win more GS. He has the special ability of being able to adjust to any pressure that any opponent put on him and play better. That single ability since he looks to have mastered it, will help him win many more games to come.

Grass season is revving up: Stuttgart ATP

-snip-

Kyrgios v Wu

Every match with Nick Kyrgios is a great tennis show. He doesn't play very regularly so it's a nice possibility to watch him play, getting ready for the grass season and Wimbledon. It looks like an easy match for the Aussie though.

Yes Kyrgios is a great tennis player, massive talent but I feel his best years are over at this
stage and the fact that he doesnt play a full season and is really only playing grass courts
means he isnt match fit by the time the season starts, he lost today to Wu 5-7, 3-6.

On Thursday Tsitsipas is scheduled to play Gasquet, looking at the stats on results on court
surfaces, Gasquet seems to have a better win/loss ratio on Grass, I wonder is a bet on Gasquet
worth the 3.95 odds he has?

Kygrios is the prime of his carreer with his 28 years old so he right now he will have his best years. For Kyrgios it is mainly a mental game, is he puts his mind to it he, he can win against everybody; he reached the finals in Wimbledon last year for the first time. His loss right now means nothing, most probably he was not really in the mood to play.
One thing is for sure, there is always some sensation when he plays.

BIG WINNER!

Most professional tennis players are getting older, so their performance and quality of play will definitely decrease, but it is very different from Djokovic, who is actually more enthusiastic and can play even better.
Yes, for Nadal it is very clear that the decline in the play he is doing is probably due to the age factor plus several injuries he has experienced so that he cannot play as well as Djokovic.

Djokovic really deserves to wear the crown because no one has been able to match and surpass the many titles he has won.

Nadal will have a hard time considering his post-injury recovery and his playing performance has significantly decreased.
Maybe 12 months is quite a long time, but for an athlete, that time doesn't really matter, especially for the healing of the injury he experienced, so he lacked self-training, which made Nadal left behind by other players like Djokovic.

Djokovic played with short rallies just to optimize the game and get points faster considering that if he plays like he used to before he can get tired faster and drain too much energy.

Venus Williams had a good comeback set in the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, but she wasn't able to win the match. Since January it is the first match played by Venus Williams. Started good with a winning set 6-3 against the young Swiss player Naef. Later in the second set she had a tough fight and the tie breaker ended in favour of Naef 77-63. The third set was easily won by Naef 6-2. Venus Williams expected to reach atleast to the quarter finals have ended so early.

Actually, I believe for Rafael Nadal, it is the injuries that are actually going to cause him problems. If he does not stop playing, it is going to have a seriously bad effect on his body. And he might not like that towards the end of his human life when he is going to suffer serious knee problems. I heard that most of the athletes who are in fast paced sports like this generally suffer knee and joint problems toward the later stages of life. We can already see a lot of injuries being inflicted on him.

I also believe that Novak Djokovic still has at least two years of good form. He has achieved a lot of great things already. Let’s see how he can perform in the future.

I am not so much concerned about any negative long-term impacts on his body because he has access to the best medicine in the world and he also knows best what he is feeling like right now. Professionals like him develop a very sensitive feeling for the actual physical state of their body. That is up to him.

But what could happen is that he can't let go and wants to try at too high cost to come back on the tour, but even that I doubt will happen eventually. Nadal has already started the process of letting go. That is why in interviews he now more often says that if he comes back, the next year will be his last year most likely. He also has become a father which probably also makes it a bit easier to start a new phase in life.

He now recently said that his goal is to play those tournaments next year that have been the most important to him in his career and that way say goodbye to all the fans.

She is quite old for a female tennis player because she is already 42 years old, that's why there is not so much she can do against young players and being able to force her to play 3 sets it will really drain her, it would be better if she plays doubles because we can see how the players who are old enough and choose to play doubles are quite successful like Martina Hingis who also has a good record in doubles when she has retired from singles parties. But it's amazing that he can still play even a few years ago, she was still able to reach the Wimbledon final only losing to Muguruza, and we will no longer be able to see her win easily with any tennis player because of course, age limits her ability.

Kyrgios is unfortunately struggling with his mental problems. If he had fought his demons earlier, he would certainly be at a higher level. But we also have to consider that he had not played a match yet this year. The last time was at the end of 2022 and he also missed the French Open because he injured his foot.

I'm really surprised she is still able to compete at the highest level at her age (42). Here love and dedication to tennis is unbelievable. I remember a long time both Williams sisters promised they will continue playing singles tennis while they physically can, then move on to the doubles. But I guess Serena is not quite back into tennis with her pregnancy and photo shoots and all that, so Venus has nothing left to do but try her luck in singles.

Yes, it is very difficult to come back and play again at the top level in tennis after long breaks due to injuries or when it is an older player who is no longer as fast and physically fit as he used to be.
Venus Williams was a top and very successful tennis player who won many important tennis tournaments and can be satisfied with her career.
However, Kyrgios had tremendous talent and if he had the necessary character and work habits he could have been one of the best tennis players in history. Too bad for him.
I am currently following Andy Murray's performance at the Nottingham Open. It is incredible to see his mental strength and will that after so many injuries, even at the age of 36, he is still playing tennis and preparing for Wimbledon. At one time, he was an equal tennis player to the "big three of world tennis" Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, and won 3 GS tournaments and 2 Olympic golds. If injuries had not stopped his tennis career, it is likely that today we would be talking about the "big four" and not the trio of world tennis.

Injuries were real threat to sportsman. Very few will be strong enough to make a comeback, whereas the majority ends the career. He had played well against De Loore and won the match in direct sets. Next match is against Grenier who can be won by Andy Murray. For now Grenier have won his last match months back in the Challenger against Billy Harris. Now only Djokovic is only player who is talked much. Federer, Nadal and Murray have been remembered as the legends forever.

Well, I am sure that he is going to try his best to do well in the next year. I don’t know if he will actually succeed in doing that or not. But I do wish him the best. Currently, he also understands that his time has come and he has to end his career. It’s better to do that when he is healthy, and it’s also better to do this on his own terms. of course, it is going to be hard. A man whose life was all about tennis is not going to find it easy.

I believe he has a lot of money, but he will still have to do some hard work if he wants to get himself into some kind of business. He will have to be active for the first three years. At least if you want to passive income. But he will certainly get more time to spend with his family after his retirement.

You need to train and gain some strength to play tennis . He just plays like he is an amature and once he losses the first set he dosent even care for the match anymore.

Thats it, he just doesnt care, I wonder why he even bothers and I wonder why he can get
sponsorship at this stage?

He had a good year last year winning a tournament in washington but I think he played more
last year and even reached the semi final stage last year at Stuttgart.

All the seeds at Stttgart won today, Tiafoe, Hurkacz and Musetti and 3 more play tomorrow,
Paul, Fritz seeded 2 and Tsitsipas seeded 1.

I dont know whether to bet on both Paul and Fritz, Paul isnt IMO having a brilliant season this
year, he played a challenger tournament and got beaten by Murray in the final.

Yes Nick has some psychological issues, namely he can't play a lot of tournaments and train regularly. In "Break Point" documentary series by Netflix this fact was mentioned. Nick himself mentioned he can play 7-8 tournaments a year, not more.

Meanwhile in Stuttgart, some really interesting matches are planned for tomorrow:

Karatsev v Fritz
Struff v Paul
Tsitsipas v Gasquet

It is a very hard job to actually make a comeback after a break that he had to take because of injuries. And it is especially hard when he knows that he will be announcing his retirement on his comeback. It is going to be a very emotional time for him for sure.

Andy Murray is going to face Gernier in the round of 16 in Challenger Nottingham. He is currently performing well. He will be able to win the next match I assume and I absolutely agree that he is actually performing way above average, considering the fact that injuries have been causing him problems

it seems that the new girlfriend didn't bring luck to Tsitsipas Roll Eyes that has lost today in 3 sets against Gasquet.
He gave to me the impression of being tired like at the end of a tournament Roll Eyes , in short, not the Greek we know, but "green" probably isn't his favorite surface....

Ah his focus is not 100% on Tennis ATM - he has other things on his mind !!

I had a feeling that the match could go this way but in the end I chickened of our
betting on Gasquet...but I didnt bet on Tsitsipas either.

On Thursday Tsitsipas is scheduled to play Gasquet, looking at the stats on results on court
surfaces, Gasquet seems to have a better win/loss ratio on Grass, I wonder is a bet on Gasquet
worth the 3.95 odds he has?

...so yes he was worth the 3.95 odds. He plays Struff tomorrow who beat Paul
today in 2 sets, I did bet on Paul after questioning his performances this year already
in an earlier post.

it seems that the new girlfriend didn't bring luck to Tsitsipas Roll Eyes that has lost today in 3 sets against Gasquet.
He gave to me the impression of being tired like at the end of a tournament Roll Eyes , in short, not the Greek we know, but "green" probably isn't his favorite surface....

What a bad match by Tsitsipas today,he had everything in his hands against Gasquet but just couldnt beat him. He was up a break in the first set and lost it due to some stupid double faults and some bad decisions. Also Gasquet just hit his 600th career win

Yeah, Tsitsipas was disappointing today. Quarterfinal time in Stuttgart:

Lorenzo Musetti
VS
Frances Tiafoe

Marton Fucsovics
VS
Taylor Fritz

Hubert Hurkacz
VS
Christopher O'Connell

Richard Gasquet
VS
Jan-Lennard Struff

I marked the potential winners in bold. Both American guys should be pretty decent on grass because they prefer hard surface which is quite similar to grass.
