Any new info on the sub $1000 product that they were considering?
I don't think there were explicitly considering sub-$1,000, they just made a cheaper device, the Mercury. They don't want to do sub $1k because they don't want the support headache of having thousands of customers.

They can't do anything less considering each chip is 100GH and the Mercury is a 1 Chip unit.

Can't split chips in 1/2.
True enough. Personally, I'd like to see their next product with entirely new gen-2 designed chips, assuming this batch comes off without a hitch.

You realize we've still got 4 long years until the next block-reward halving in 2017, and goddamn are we the lucky ones ^_^ Future generations will envy heavily the chance to actually mine even one entire bitcoin... per day. That will be an astounding, eye-opening thing to tell your grandchildren.

Grampa: "Yes Johnny, I once solo-mined a block and got 25 bitcoin."

J: "25 bitcoin, Grampa?! You could buy anything!"

Grampa: *chuckles* "Not quite anything, kiddo. But I did eventually buy this island with one of 'em."

Saturn is listed as drawing max 500W. Do you think a 600W Corsair that I have lying around would be enough or should I go for a bigger PSU?

@kncminer

You guys should really provide more detailed technical and status information than "everything is fine".

You know this is a very sensitive business. Lots of people have lots of money in. A more detailed information policy would largely increase your trustworthiness, would abandon wild speculations and discussions and would also likely boost your sales.

Many of us hope that you are working with European reliability in contrast to well known guys from other continents/countries. Think about it.

KNC site updated with upgrade options for you saturn/merc peeps  Shocked

https://www.kncminer.com/categories/upgrade-options

---

Alternate naming scheme idea for KNC's gen-2 product line, they could just start using the Greek/Latin names of the Roman gods they've already used by naming them after planets Tongue

10-terahash miner - Zeus, $7k

5th - Athena, $3995

2.5th - Artemis, $1995 -- or w/e the prices would be, you get the picture Tongue

Only way to confirm it is for kncminer.com to confirm, and for knc-china.com to put up a link to kncminer.com's confirmation.

If your 600w PSU is 80Plus Silver, it can handle 510w.  If it's 80Plus Bronze, 492w.  I've read that non-80Plus PSUs can be as low as 50-60% of declared capacity.

Thanks, I think I'll go for a new 750W 80Plus Silver PSU (EDIT: when the time comes).

However, reading up a bit here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus

Does not 600W 80Plus Silver PSU mean that it will deliver 600W to the device, but will draw 675W from the wall?

I would say you have a 0% chance of getting an official answer anytime soon.  I also think that if you don't get a psu sized for a Jupiter then you will just have to buy another one if you ever want to upgrade.

KNC doesn't know the power requirements themselves right now, but there will be plenty of time between when they know and when your shipment arrives.

You would be nuts to order a PSU before final power figures are released. It's not like they are hard to get. I can go to the local PC shop and have pretty much any common wattage/brand PSU within 20min.

Just received this update? Talking about March 2014? HUH? I thought these were to ship this year October? What's going on? So there will be three entire months other companies will be shipping miners and KNC will not be? That doesn't make sense. They need to understand they are also in competition with other mining companies. Not just themselves, right? I don't get it. You mean I could be waiting the entire winter months after paying months ago??? Damn, sounds like BFL all over again, no?

KnCMiner Network Protection Statement

At KnCMiner we are aware of the service we are providing to our customers. We are also aware that we need our customers to have a return on their devices in order to purchase form us again. With the scale of the supply chains, agreements and factories we have access to, we need to be cautious we don’t ship too many devices and therefore reduce the return to our customers.  So with that in mind our plan is to do as follows:

We will ship no devices in December 2013, January 2014 or  February 2014. Meaning that once we have taken the difficulty up at the end of November we will not release any more hashing power for 3 months. We will then release our new generation of devices, which will begin shipping in March 2014. These devices will also have a much higher GH/$ rating than any of our current offerings.

We would like to state that If any of our competitors continues to add large amounts of hashing power to the network during December, January or February. We will continue to release our devices as competitively priced as we can to protect our customers share of the network.

Thanks

What they basically say, is that they plan to be finished with all batch 1 deliveries by the end of November. Interesting.

Not BFL: they are talking about the next wave, after they are done delivering all the currently ordered devices.

You're misreading it. Stop pannicking lol

They will stop shipping December-February. Which means that they will be shipping in September (or October).

"Meaning that once we have taken the difficulty up at the end of November we will not release any more hashing power for 3 months. "

Why would they release new products in March if they haven't shipping the original products? Tongue

Its quite the opposite of BFL. They actually have a roadmap laid out and plan on sticking to it as close as possible. They're not only predicting when they will ship, but when they plan on finishing their shipments and their future offerings. Its pretty reassuring. I'm glad my payment cleared.
