Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Sorry if this has already been discussed (can't keep up with this thread!) but realistically, will the Neptune ever ROI? It seems a bit punchy price-wise...

It's been speculated a lot. Some folks are saying it will at the least bring back 10-15btc within 90 days. My safe projection is about 5btc within 45 days.

If you paid in BTC, of course you want to make the same amount back, or more. If you paid in fiat, then your viewpoint of ROI will be different.

For me, i'd rather pay in fiat if I could order one.

So (correct me if I'm wrong) in TWO WEEKS this batch of miners will be done and then the next batch of miners will be offered for sale to ANYONE  at the price I heard of $12,666 incl shipping...or some such...ie open the floodgates....

What exactly do you think is gonna happen to that site/ordering etc when Chinese folks can order these Neptune miners direct at that point? I would imagine a lot of these folks missed the boat on the Oct orders etc? It could be beyond huge (also could mess up my plans on ROI on Neptune....er then again more demand for BTC .....jeez this stuff can give a guy a headache)

This is another reason I call BS on the whole 'protect the network' claim. They will take a ton of orders and happily fulfill them. AS has been said earlier, difficulty in mid-late 2014 is going to be a shizzfest, and only profitable to industrial setups.

Bitcoin will certainly have a crazy jump in price over the next year I have no doubt--how much in 2014 is the question. So mining at home will still bring something in, but we will soon see the days when the jupiter is getting .01 per month. Better hope that .01 is worth like $400 or something.

Don't everyone cash out at once.. that causes drops lol!

Whether you have a Block Erupter or 30 Jupiters, you are part of this huge piece of history. This is no small step. This currency form, or a derivative, will likely be in place centuries from now. And we were all a part of it.

Feels good to be one of the few to say, I was one of the first to break ground in cryptocurrency!

thanks added an unpaid line for people holding in the queue. I have others locally who may be interested.
The unpaid Neptune units will roll back to KNC queue in 15 days if unpaid.

er ..this is somewhat unnerving in that I got my Jupiter oct 18th exactly 1 month and 9 days ago and to the best of my knowledge BTC was about $150 USD.

To the folks who've added KNC modules, how did you do your cooling? I saw some custom setups recently, but can't find what page they were on. Someone I know has modules but not the metal mounting bars, so trying to figure out a way to solve that for them.

Fun watching the shameless begging going on here Smiley

Fun watching us go over 1k too, which isn't that crazy as it's not even a 10% rise over the day ...small % rises will make a mark now it's this high.

I'm not diving in the new Neptune thing so far ahead of time if at all, but I haven't seen many people mention the likely (based on previous experience) delivery of rigs delivering far over the promised hashpower? They won't claim more until it's proved of course, but it seems likely to me.

If you were considering an order from elsewhere and saw this happen from a proven company...timed to come online before your rig had broken even (if it ever arrived), what would you do? Excellent timing of this offer from KNC if you think about that. Unlike other manufacturers, they have proved they can do it. Would you rather be mining  with KNC machines in 3 months or competing against them, or waiting for delivery even? Bit of a no-brainer to me even though I dislike some things they do.

I have paid for two neptune miners, but just waiting on confirmation.
It is a bit of a risk i'll suppose but he who dares Rodney and all that.

If the price keep rising like this then it should pay dividends if they arrive in Q1

The safest bet for a quality design which will exceed the specified hash rate and will definitely ship sometime in 2014, is KNC. There's no doubt.

I have a feeling, however, the other companies will stick to 28nm for awhile and cater toward the house-based mining folk, as it appears KNC is propelling toward more industrial consumers.

If you were to spend money on a miner right now, your best bet is KNC. To me, there's too many variables with what the returns will be like in 4-6 months, I'd rather find something now and burn it up until it's no longer viable, and move forward with the earnings.

They may be heading to more power hungry rigs, but we don't know how power hungry yet. Even 2kw isn't anything more than a small electric fire which many homes run ...most small home miners won't be running 10 neptunes, maybe 2 or three max? No problem really as long as they pay their bills.
The problem for competitors, apart from trust and proven hardware is price.. can they compete with the price per Gh? Seriously doubt that unless someone new like KNC appear, which could happen.

KNC have been very clever at marketing and timing , I'd bet they have destroyed some companies like BFL completely. No tears there though eh? Smiley

I think the power issue isn't so much paying the bill, but the wiring involved. Most US houses these days, you might be able to squeeze out 2..MAYBE 4kw circuit. Beyond that you need subpanels, and ideally dedicated panels. Most folks won't do that unless they're already balls deep (like Phoenix for example).

Personally, let's say I could only support 2kw, I'd feel almost ill owning a miner which can only do 3TH because of the limitation, knowing that if I had more power it could go twice as fast. It's like paying 2x as much for a miner than you need to. I have a feeling the Neptune will be able to hit 5 or 6TH in the right conditions.

Yes, KNC has done well with their timing. I also point to their 'protect the network' claim as part of this. They're using it as an excuse for timing, but to save themselves from a bad reputation regarding time-to-market (such as what befell BFL).
