Hey has there been any info about special deals for gen 1 /batch 1 buyers in the future?

I'm sure they promised us special consideration for buying the gen 1 stuff and getting this party started....any deals on future hardware offerings?

My Saturn has paid for itself 1.5x over and I want to get something more powerful.

Let's hear about some gen 2 hardware specials...maybe something in the 2TH range?

Or send us an email with a coupon....I'd probably jump on that even if it was a pre-order.

I'm sure they would tell us such if they had a clue ..my guess is they are looking at the landscape of what exactly to make at what PH and price and scratching their heads a lot...imho with bitcoin trending towards 1K a btc and the other mnfg out there....what should/could they shoot for? at 6PH unit in march/april at say 8K to over compensate for the dump of cointerra and blackarrow stuff?..they sure don't want to pull a BFL and say 900gh at 5K will work in jan/feb

yeah my guess is they are scratching their heads and pondering at this point (of course hope I'm wrong and the 20ph unit at 5k is coming out in march just saying)

As long as bitcoin prices remain high, prices for mining equipment will go up not down.  Demand for mining equipment has skyrocketed because of high bitcoin prices.  Depressing but true.

Agreed. KNC has no motivation to lower their prices, especially considering the November 650 Ghs Jupiters are 62% faster than the original "400 Ghs" Jupiters we all bought last summer. They had no problem selling those machines for $7000 with bitcoin at $80-100. In fact, I will gladly pay $7000 right now for a 400Ghs Jupiter (missing a hashing board).

Dear KNC,

I am greedy. Please sell me another Jupiter. Thanks.

Seriously, though, is there any idea when KNC will be accepting new oders? I don't care if I'm 2 months away from receiving something, I'd like to spend some of this BTC that's burning a hole in my wallet.

Heads-up for tomo BTW - incoming...

is this kind of post considered useful?

why not be a tad less 'cryptic' and you(r inbox) might not get abused so much...

Also want to add, my ambient temps are 30C - 86F.

so statements regarding VRMs needing heating and/or not liking cooling is NOT a fact covering ALL rigs/VRMs and even when they are hot(ter) they dont ALL fall back into line....

im sure ive mentioned this...

As for 'wiggling' the heatsink aka 'cooling tower' - i think ill give that a miss.

i personally dont want to hear 'warranty' is void due to negligence/abuse/possibly insane advice (though it might just work)

I've renamed the experimental one. Here is an updated one with more tweaks to the tuning (does not delay before disabling):
http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminer-tune
(Be patient before deciding what its performance is like since it takes many minutes to stabilise)
Updated that binary again. It delays re-enabling them progressively more every time they're disabled. The delay between disables is back and there is now a message saying that the cores are being enabled and have finished enabling at startup. It takes ~20 seconds on my saturn!
Followup. This binary has had the most consistent (and highest) hashrates and lowest hardware errors for my Saturn. The average hashrate is ever so slightly creeping up even after 24 hours. The difference is not profound mind you...

Nobody said the temp issue covered "All rigs", and you still don't get what sharing info is about helping others in need, who ARE having problems.... and if you cared to read just a few posts more, before bashing O'rama, you would have seen that he spelled it out for those who can't "Read between the lines", but you still even missed it.
What is your problem? Someone piss in your Cornflakes?
I also stated clocking the heat-sink was a desperation move on my part, and that the temp thing was NOT a recommendation.
It was a question!!!
But.. it has helped others.
There are two options when you have a board that isn't performing up to spec as I see it..... RMA it, or try to get it going yourself.
Which one you try, is up to the owner...
I'm an "Open book" in here, which is something I'm not used to...  but if I can help someone, by golly..I'll do it....and share every conventional AND unconventional solutions I find. It is then up to you as the fellow KNC miner owner to make a decision based on how you feel about it.
You would rather see everyone with a simple glitch on board do an RMA when they could possibly be fixed so simply?
Not me...  Grin

Heads-up for tomo BTW - incoming...

November delivery news???  Smiley
That was the news....!

NOPE!

& neither was it in regards to the 'tuning suite'

if you wish to continue your half assed, half-reading and half-helping, i will continue to ask why...

i dont eat cornflakes, i grew out of that during childhood. (around the time i grew out of referring to myself in the 3rd & giving myself nicknames)

whos post did bitcoinorama help exactly??

the half dozen posters and more incoming who failed to 'read between the lines'  (BTW - 'heads-up tomorrow - incoming' is ONE line)

or just you, who again jumped to a wrong conclusion and added MORE confusion to the pile of half facts and guesstimates..?

questions end in question marks, statements do not.

keep on helping.. you're doing swell

though this is in no way able of effecting the performance of the VRMs, right?
Not directly, but by disabling as many cores reliably as you "need" to have disabled, the power delivery will need to fluctuate far less so... who knows?

not bitcoinorama or phoenix69 for sure!!

i still want to know what the heads up was in reference to and even more so why it was not wiser to explain clearly without leaving it open to conjecture etc...

wrt the cores, bertmod shows all mine as ok its just that 1 VRM with low current that seems to be 'robbing' me of 30-50Gh

Hmmmm.....  I wonder....

Now I'm intrigued..

Will be pressing refresh from 9AM. Fingers crossed it's not second generation news as right now I don't have a pot to piss in.

Ah...erm ok then, forget the news about...

Well, in that case Marcus is heading down to the factory at 3am this morn to personally oversee the assembly line the entire week your boxes are being assembled and shipped.

how is that a heads up?

it was mentioned a day or two ago...

As well as ignoring questions & polite greetings on #kncminer, marcus is going to be watching a late assembly line for a week.

Quickly guys, wait another week!

Hope 0.99 is working out great for everyone etc...  Tuning suite is now only 'days' away from maybe recovering the Gh that previous fw 'upgrades' have managed to diminish.

Sorry this is a little late but how many bad cores do you need before KNC will allow an RMA?

Was your ASIC completely dead before KNC would give you an RMA?

I have one ASIC with probably 15 bad cores which slows my hashrate...

Or just live with it?

>>>As soon as the first report good numbers I'll go for it.
>>>Currently running stable on 3.8.2 with my 5/192 bad cores board, so I don't want to mess with it now.

how is that a heads up?

it was mentioned a day or two ago...

As well as ignoring questions & polite greetings on #kncminer, marcus is going to be watching a late assembly line for a week.

Quickly guys, wait another week!

Hope 0.99 is working out great for everyone etc...  Tuning suite is now only 'days' away from maybe recovering the Gh that previous fw 'upgrades' have managed to diminish.

you're an assclown

i may well be, but id rather be called an 'assclown' than be the kind of person that repeats stupid words/insults they read elsewhere in expectation of imaginary congratulations.

is this more 'help'? i notice you ignored my question like a true genius would... HOW IS OLD POINTLESS 'NEWS' A HEADS UP??

at least phoenix will like you more now.

maybe you can back each other up wrt not really knowing what you're talking about but expecting ppl to just accept it as 'help'

im good either way, shame the same cant be said for my 'dead' vrm/stunted GH

Or is it a ghost? or a bug? or something else that engineers just cant quite put their finger on yet.

tuning suite - 'we' cant fix it with 10 fw upgrades so you can do it yourselves!!

Clowns Ass!!

>>>Currently running stable on 3.8.2 with my 5/192 bad cores board, so I don't want to mess with it now.

another victim whos support for KNC seems to be left to 'helpers' to deal with.

in answer to your question i honestly dont know.

i too am afraid to keep messing with it as the GH/s rate continues to diminish no matter what hacky type fixes are offered by CUSTOMERS or fw 'up'grades offered few & far between by the engineering team.

my advice which im following myself is to wait wait wait & wait until the so called tuning suite arrives.

until we have exhausted all options i wouldnt want to sacrifice 100Gh for a week or so for the sake of maybe getting the rest - it seems stupid to have to.

but then im one of those assclowns that doesnt bathe in the bullshit of 'heroes' or suckle at the teet of assumed greatness.

so you may do well to wait for the sellotape guy or the bulldog clip guy or the heatsink guy or the weawwy siwwy weboot guy.

they know what time it is

Yeah, high time to hit the ignore button on Edgar.
You are irrational... and I'm done talking to you or about you, because you are literally a waste of my time. So.... feel free to ramble on..... "Truce".....

Where is that screen capture from I've only ever seen it say November (and it still does on my screen)

It used to say shipping starting 15th November (not mid November)

i have replace my cgminer binary with the cgminer-tune binary. renamed it and set the rights to 755. then /etc/init.d/cgminer.sh restart. till here everything fine. but after a reboot it seems that the binary gets replaced again by 3.8.1 Sad. any way for a permanent replacement?
There was talk on the kncminer.com forums of a permanent replacement, with the binary included in a bin patch, but I don't know where that went or if it ever got off the ground. You'd have to rebuild the image with each firmware and cgminer update.. so probably not worth it.

It doesn't take more than a few seconds, so you're better off just doing:
Code:
wget http://ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/kncminer/cgminer-tune
chmod +x cgminer-tune
screen -dm ./cgminer-tune -c /config/cgminer.conf

Heads-up for tomo BTW - incoming...

Regarding your temps, what temps are you getting? I noticed my rig was starting to drop performance no matter what firmware I used, even going back to my faithful 0.96 firmware didn't seem to make much difference. (circa 530Gh/s av)

However I had noticed that the ambient was getting pretty bloody cold here, so I moved it to a warmer location and performance jumped around 10Gh/s, then I reloaded 0.96 (always seems better for this rig, lower voltage, more stable) but wanted more realistic output from cgminer so loaded up ckolivas' latest 3.8.2 without tuning. And low and behold, the higher temps, the best firmware and more accurate cgminer and I'm back up to 550Gh/s avg over 24 hours, with spikes up to 600+Gh/s

Thing is edgar, these machines aren't perfect, they are enthusiast level, makes sense really for the market they are in. And as such they need a bit of TLC to get the most out of them. Yes some will be broken and need RMA'ing as a last resort, but there is no hard and fast rule that works for each one, and I think that finally KnC have realised this too, the tuning suite sounds more like you will be able to tune each ASIC separately for voltage, hopefully speed and maybe some other things.

This isn't going to mean that someone will give the "magic settings" that will work for everyone, if anything it means more work to find the best "tune" for your particular rig. Its a bit like overlcocking CPU's or GPU's no-one elses settings are quite right for your particular hardware.

I mean, I guess, they could have set a generic right-for-everyone 400Gh/s firmware but I think they knew that their hardware had more potential, probably a bad move on their part shouting about the upper limit of the October batches, but it sold alot of miners I bet!

I've been pretty happy with 530Gh/s but with difficulty increasing I'm looking to squeeze as much out of this puppy as I can, so today its remove the blue power cables and plug the Pcie's straight into the boards Smiley

This is an enthusiasts forum, and people are allowed to get enthusiastic, believe it or not Phoenix and the others in here have help loads of people get their machines working nicely. I for one think they are doing a great job and should continue. I salute their successes and apply what tweaks work for my rig, sometimes I even pass on things that have worked for me.

Thats the nature of forums like this, no offence, but it doesn't seem like it suits your nature. I just wonder what you actually want from this forum? Can you spell it out? Maybe bullet point it or something so that you have a record of the things you want addressed. Can't promise anything mind but it might help us understand why you seem so angry.  Huh
