6 is the default, it is plenty, max should be 10 not sure how/why you would go to 20...

so tell me what did happen, when you undervolaged.

less shares or more? why

if i put my ants to the limit theres no gain, vs 180gh.
i can laugh, because it seems to me that theres no gain going over 0.83v/275mhz/                   1.1v/350mhz

you only use more power, much more power.

350mhz is like 180gh with 360w
275mhz is like 140gh with 160w

The question is the cost in electricity worth the difference?  At 200 gh/s my S1 costs me about $34 a month in electricity.  The difference between 200 and 140gh/s is about $60 $55 in BTC (at current difficulty).  I'm certainly not going to save $60 in electricity!

I installed p2pool 2 days ago and still no payment.
I see the past two days no block has been found.
I assume today or tomorrow 1 or 2 blocks will be found and get payouts.

Which brings me to the next question.
How many blocks is p2pool is trying to discover at the same time?

No blocks found for 2 days, 8 hours, 37 minutes and 54 seconds as of me writing this.  Expected time to block is 23 hours, 19 minutes, 42 seconds.

It's variance.  On 6/3, p2pool found 4 blocks in 24 hours.

Pretty sure the answer to how many blocks at the same time is exactly like the answer for every other pool: the latest one.

If some of you have some spare hash power could you point some to a small node I just setup for testing. (0% fee)

http://75.127.136.68:9332

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have a failover set as I am still working and learning and I don't want to cost you any BTC.

I want to do more with it over the next few weeks but for now I just want to make sure what I did so far works.

Thanks,
Dave

Thanks for your answer.

Just to clarify how mining works among competitive pools.
So if P2Pool has 500 TH/s and Eligius has 6500 TH/s how can any "smaller" pool (e.g. P2Pool) be competitive?

Eligius in this example has more chances to to find the block as it has more TH/s.

What happens to the work that the P2Pool has done on this block as well as the work done from other pools? Just goes to trash?

Just trying to figure out with simple words/example how pool mining works...

Just trying to figure out with simple words/example how pool mining works...

Using simple numbers
2 Pools
1 has 1 miner with 10 TH
1 has 10 miners with 10 TH each for a total of 100 TH

The faster pool will find 10x as many blocks as the slower one. BUT when the slower one finds a block that 1 miner gets the full amount with the faster pool each miner gets 1/10 of the amount. In the end you do wind up with the same amount.

And yes, the old work gets chucked in the trash.

-Dave

Hey,

Can anyone explain what happened here:

www.nogleg.com/doge.log

Search for:  2014-06-07 09:21:33.692077 GOT SHARE! D6UpZiy3teiUvu4kMWRvPkeaTz5poSjPjN db27bad7 prev 613ae623 age 4.89s

...and it credits it to my default address.  I ran p2pool with ./run_p2pool.py --net dogecoin -a DMGbitfUYJc6BiNNpmLvgNcwnewnEUwBgV --no-bugreport --disable-upnp --give-author 0 -f 0 (and various --p2pool-nodes)....  nogleg.com:9555/fee even shows 0%, yet it clearly credited that one share to my address.  Anyone have any clue as to why, or how often this occurs?

ed: The only thing I notice is a mystery fourth worker appearing for some reason (all the other new works around that point show three workers):

2014-06-07 09:21:33.703888 New work for worker! Difficulty: 0.001209 Share difficulty: 1.546001 Total block value: 125000.000000 DOGE including 0 transactions

the rats are leaving the ship lol pool is down around 300th/s now. I guess we have some impatient miners.

I just added 3th/s using betarigs.com. not bad for testing or just boosting your hashing for a short period of time.
