Last time I updated some altcoins to a newer version of bitcoin code, I created a patch file afterward to record what I had had to change, it is merged_mining.patch, at https://sourceforge.net/projects/galacticmilieu/files/

Bitcoin code has changed a lot again since then so I doubt it would apply cleany to new versions of bitcoin. But basically all the altcoins that can be merged-mined need to be updated.

Basically a r3ecent but stable version of bitcoin needs to have the merged mining patches applied and a new diff taken to give us a new merged mining patch that works with recent bitcoin code, then the patch can be applied repeatedly, once per altcoin, adding also for each coin the changes other than the merged mining as secondary chain, that make it different from bitcoin. Diffs should be taken then too, to get a patch for each altcoin that shows how it differers from a vanilla bitcoin with a vanilla merged mining patch applied.

Possibly various chains might like to offer some bonus/reward for their own chain's part of such a task, and going forward maybe the first step for any of them should be to first update the generic merged mining patch and release it, before going on to apply it to each chain.

The Open Transactions Client (for Grandmas) bounty at:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=105506.0

is 185 BTC. That times the 11.7 USD/BTC mtgox price gives a total value of about 2,160 USD. If the bounty value goes above 2,500 USD, an eight generation share bounty will be added to the pledges.

Since the above was written, a 10 bitcoin pledge was added:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=105506.msg1344583#msg1344583

bringing the total pledge to 195 bitcoins. That times the latest 13.3 USD/BTC price gives a total value of 2,594 USD. So the devcoin pledge has been added:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=105506.msg1380815#msg1380815

Edit: Because the number of generation shares has increased, the bounty has been increased to 24 shares.

Atruk has written more than a thousand words on devtome:
http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=philosophy_of_physical_realism

and so got the fifth, four generation share signing bonus for writing:
http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=earn_devcoins_by_writing#signing_bonus

There are now five four share bonuses remaining. He will also get earnings for writing:

I suggest a 4 then 2 share bounty for a windows devcoin GUI client. The award would only be granted after confirmation that the client can send, and receive devcoins and generate a new address. Any objections?

More than four days have passed without an objection so the bounty is in force. It has been awarded to K1773R for the GUI server/client part of his windows bundle:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg1367909#msg1367909

He'll get the devcoins is round 18:

Thanks

I managed to install the client from the November 29th source package. Initially qmake and make failed so I managed to put it together with the following steps:

  • Installed Qt-creator IDE
  • Opened the project file in Qt-Creator and hit the run button
  • Saw errors and installed libraries as Qt reported them missing
  • Repeated this process for openSSL (libssl), Berkeley (libdb, libberkeleydb) and a metric ton of boost libraries.
  • Some unnecessary libraries may be included in previous line
  • Hit the run button again, got just under five thousand errors
  • Hit the build button anyway
  • Build returns only five errors and a functional binary that started downloading blocks as soon as I fired it up

This should work for anyone else running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

It seems like an interesting alt-coin experiment.

Nice, so it looks like wallets are fairly well covered. Next now that the wallets are available, more sites need to be able to accept devcoins as payment to increase adoption rate.

Tested Devda.ch It does function to receive dvc and send. Waiting on final confirmation for the send. Please send the generation share for the review there below also to ensure that the gen shares can be sent to this web wallet.

Edit: Watching for the bugs on the site to be cleared. Then also waiting on devcoin qt wallet to finish receiving the dvc, will check back tomorrow.

A 1/5 test generation share will be sent to Jasinlee, at the above address:
https://github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/blob/master/bounty_18.csv

It should arrive by block 72,000, around the beginning of January. If it gets there, the 6 share web wallet bounty will awarded to Icoin, and Jasinlee's informative post bounty will be topped up to 2/5 of a share.

If it doesn't, and the share went into oblivion, then Jasinlee will be given a 2/5 informative post bounty.

You can use whatever symbol you want for devcoin on your store, but right now there is no official devcoin symbol. Once there is more interest, maybe in several months, and several people draw a symbol, then the best symbol will be chosen.

Since there have been no objections for four days, Xchrix has been awarded maintenance for devcoin on cryptocoincharts:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34586.msg1374582#msg1374582

I further suggest that if a page showing Open Transactions trading is made, that an extra 1/5 of a share for maintenance be added. Any objections?

There hasn't been an update on the chrome-bitcoin project for over three months:
https://github.com/kiba/chrome-bitcoin

So Kiba has been dropped from the devcoin share list until he does more open source development.

Just got the bitcoin-qt client compiled on debian, might want to edit README.rst to add this lot:

apt-get install qt4-qmake libqt4-dev libssl-dev libdb5.1++-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libboost-dev libboost-system1.49-dev libboost-filesystem1.49-dev libboost-program-options1.49-dev libboost-thread1.49-dev

The last libboost packages are probably covered by a metapackage, they're just what was given by apt-file for linker errors.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for the post. Please post or send me your devcoin address and you'll get 2/5 of a share for a large informative post:

Wordcount and Devpoints integrated.
By now rewards for inviting a frend 1000 Devpoints and login 1 Devpoint once per 24 Hours.
Devpoints are system internal with the purpose to keep the load off the devcoin chain.
Devpoints are for various activity like writing a howto or answering userquestions, providing support, translating or creating content etc in the devda.ch system granted. They are exchangable for devcoins (not released yet!) or can be used in the shop in exchange for other goods.

Doesn't seem to be sending emails with login information...
