what is up with 24hr avg???

is there a problem?

Depends on your point of view.  Decreasing network hash rate causes fewer blocks to be solved.  But then it also decreases the difficulty.

Sam

i know luck will vary but over time it's all smoothed out... but I've not seen this kind of number before... looks really weird...

Are there any plans to implement merged mining?

This.

what does this mean?

Merged mining basically lets you submit the same hash to both Bitcoin and NameCoin. For the miner, it means you can get bitcoins and namecoins at the same time for the same effort you're already producing.

It's very new, and there isn't a lot of documentation, and there are still some valid concerns about the integrity of the process.  From protocol issues (which are over my head), to other issues such as pool-ops implementing merged mining without telling the miners, keeping the namecoins for themselves.

For deepbit, I imagine it'd be in poor taste to implement merged mining, as their massive hashrate would dwarf the current NameCoin network.  But this does leave Deepbit in a peculiar position - will miners stay if they can get increased rewards elsewhere (currently ~ 30% more, based on current NMC exchange rates)

oh... I know what merged mining is... I thought that my post about what's up with 24 hr rate was answered with merged mining comment, so I was a little confused by that...

i guess they are not related though...

Yep, probably because we came from such a high difficulty and have been dropping and people have stopped mining because of the depressed price.  The total hash rate was around 15Ths and now its under 11.  I keep thinking things will level out but it seems to keep dropping.  I'm sure it'll pickup again at some point.  But I wouldn't mind some more difficulty drops and then have it level out at some point.

I wonder how the new GPU's will come into play.  Seems like the life of the current GPU's that do well with this kind of work is coming to an end and will be replaced by devices that do a much lower hash rate.

Sam

Yeah, mine too. Maybe they don't want that other IP to be listed. Don't post it again just incase. Who knows what they are up against. We will have to assume it was for a good reason.

Well the ip is still there in my post.

Ooops, my bad. I reported it to the moderator, thinking it was a fake site trying to collect users passwords, but then decided to ping deepbit.net and when I saw the IP address I realised I made a mistake.

Well, the moderator should have checked it too, right?
