So wait you guys are trying to prove bitcoin is being manipulated as much as gold??? I don't think that's a selling point at all gold will probably near $1,000 soon, so btc to 100?  Cry

Personally i think bitcoin price action has gotten boring so it's trading like gold for the past few months is all.

Very true... I expect this to continue for a while!

Thank you explorer, this is why you can't even have a decent conversation on this forum... people don't even bother to check the price on something before they claim they know the value or price on it! Im sure when he realizes how fast gold dropped from t he 1,399 he thought it was to the 1,230 it actually is he would be able to tell its going to 1,000 soon  Shocked

It could very well go to 1000, or lower, If they can keep the lid on the pot.  The trouble is, when (not if, IMO) the lid blows, it is going to boil over in a huge way before discovering its new, higher level.  Just like bitcoin  Cool

When people realize that much of their gold portfolio is tungsten, fractional reserve, or stolen, then they will see that Bitcoin is 100% verifiably genuine.

Coinbase co-founders AMA...quite interesting
1. their take on price in 12 mo: $1500-4000
2. fees will go down from 1%...I think to ~0.5%, which would make roundtrip ~1%, which is much more enticing for trading.

I found their predictions and reasoning bullish. They seem in no doubt the bitcoin userbase is growing. Given they also debunk the myth of merchants dropping the price it seems it is just a matter of time before the price is speculated higher again.

One point of caution was last year they predicted 10k per coin Wink

I have no problem with a notion that BTC would be stable for a while. It is that grinding down from 600-650 to ~$300 that was jarring, especially if you made an investment in miners or BTC. Overall, I don't mind to get monetary rewards slower that almost everyone expected. I would be upset if bitcoin zero out at some point, but even that would not be the EOTW.

Ok, enough fun with gold https://www.tradingview.com/e/A9moXR92/

My theory remains that bitcoins trading price, that is, the general direction, up or down has been similar to gold since July and a chart showing good correlation since at least July of this year is linked above.

Watching general markets these past 30 days or so I've started going back to some extreme bearish chart projections I realized that Bitcoin technology might basically reinvent the equity markets allowing those that make the shift to transition away from the destruction that's about to occur.

Quote
Uber-bearish targets on the stock market: Jaws of Death scenario and its positive effect on Blockchain Technologies.
Gordon Long and John Rubino's Phase Shift article at Safehaven.com got me wondering about a bear market (Jaws of Death Level Bear market) effect on the blockchain.

This is simply a thought exercise on how the DOW and SP500 could basically vanish, never to return.

Longwavegroup's PDF from 2012 incorporates charts from McHugh and Prechter: http://www.longwavegroup.com/publications/ians_investment_insights/2012/_pdf/121105_Ians_Investment_Insights.pdf

Some of the downside targets are extreme, including one projecting a 97% drop from wherever price tops.

The following series of 'what-ifs' is my attempt to connect the dots on how a 97% drop in Indexes such as the DOW and SP500 could occur _without_ the world falling totally apart.

What if the number of IPO's declines as companies learn that programs like Swarm, Koinify and Lighthouse become the more favorable model of funding new ventures?

What if Overstock successfully moves off the traditional exchange in favor of a newly created blockchain equity model?

What if, as companies remaining on the traditional exchanges go out of business there is nothing to replace them, as all new companies choose the blockchain equity model over the Wall Street model?

These three things - the number of traditional IPO's dropping due to new funding models, existing companies moving to a new equity platform, companies naturally reaching end of life not being replaced in the index. That is how I see the possibility of markets such as the DOW dropping to between 400-1000 without the world falling apart.

and how would they find out? and if so when? I don't see why gold can't be indefinitely detached from it's 'real value' as long as 1) it has some centrally decided spot price 2) most of the people holding gold only hold paper gold (a promise of future gold) not immediate delivery. And I don't see either of these things changing.

If anything is "for sure", it's that you have no real idea what future prices will be.

$1,300 is certainly far more likely than $1,000.

That's why with any market we have people betting in both directions, and even the uninformed influence the market, especially if they invest large sums based on their uninformed view of the market.
