The Limitations of “Be Your Own Bank”

“Be your own bank.”

That motto gave life to the cryptocurrency movement, with a peer-to-peer electronic cash system representing liberation from banks, and from those who control them (or who they control). However, being your own bank isn’t the political rallying cry it’s taken for. There’s a lot more to the concept than that.

Link : https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/masternode-operators-sentinel-hotfix-action-required.17568/

When I read what caused the issue it is concerning though.

How can a ./, proposal go through and shuts down all the masternodes???

When did that supposed "all masternode shutdown" happen?

On Dashninja.pl it really did look like most of the masternodes were down that day, at least at first glance :

https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/many-mns-inactives-dashninja-pl.17565/
https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/masternode-operators-sentinel-hotfix-action-required.17568/

Hell, even i thought most of the masternodes were down, when i created this thread: https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/most-of-the-masternodes-down-sentinel-problem-fix-in-thread.17567/

Is It True? Huh

Quote from: DashNewsNetwork
The Dash Masternode network was just destroyed by a simple comma.
http://www.dashnews.network/the-dash-masternode-network-was-just-defeated-by-a-simple-comma/

"Due to invalid data being passed unchecked and unsanitized directly from a proposal, Dash's entire $2 billion network of $300,000 Masternodes cried out all at once, then died."

The ill-conceived Dash network is so extremely fragile and brittle it didn't survive a comma existing where it expected there to be a period?  Wow, hilarious! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Decred just revealed its Politeia infrastructure for  on-chain governance.

Bootiful. A time stamped audit trail. Why didn't the Athenians think of that ?

Nice invention. (Almost as good as forcing your devs to write all the codebases that will never make it into production on top of the one that does ! Wink )

That post didn't age well!  It's almost like you were asking for the Comma Of Death disaster to happen.

Politeia data isn't just time stamped, it's also supports versioning like github.  After more than a year, Dash has yet to publish a single DIP, much less anything as impressive as Decred's Politeia or Cardano's Ourboros.  Why is that?

I can't believe you are actually mocking other project's DGBB efforts (which in the future may be useful to Dash/Evolution), especially w/r/t careful separation of extraneous data from the blockchain and networking layers. Grin

I think what he meant to say was, masternode owners should update sentinel if they haven't already done so.

Thanks again Icey, with your diligence Dash will continue to get even stronger

Beats me but he's been hating Dash longer than I've been a fan. I'm sure he will be only too happy to describe at length about how dash is an 'instamined scam'. And how he is on a crusade to rid the world of it. He brags about how he controls the narrative. In fact he'll probably repost it half a dozen times.

I used to think it was because he was a Monero fanboy attacking the competition which is an impression he likes to portray (see his current sig). But I've since found out he's a pure bitcoin core shill and self confessed troll.

One thing is for sure though he is obsessed with Dash.

Hello Everyone,

Today we are happy to announce the release of 0.12.2.0 of the Dash Core software!

This is a major release of the Dash Core 0.12.2.x series. This release contains new features, improvements and bugfixes.

The most notable changes are:
- DIP0001 implementation (which is a 2MB block upgrade);
- Transaction fee reduction 10x (activates via DIP0001 activation);
- InstantSend vulnerability fix (activates via DIP0001 lock in);
- PrivateSend improvement which should allow user to have mixed funds available much faster;
- Various RPC changes;
- Lots of backports from Bitcoin Core and refactoring of our own legacy code which should improve performance and make code more reliable and easier to review;
- Experimental HD wallet with BIP39/BIP44 support.

There are also tons of smaller fixes and improvements, you can see extended description of the items above as well as the full list of changes in release notes available on github: https://github.com/dashpay/dash/blob/v0.12.2.0/doc/release-notes.md

Please read the full version here: https://www.dash.org/forum/threads/version-12-2-release.17807/

MN owners:
upgrade after your MN is paid as there is a protocol bump. Because of this a new start is required after upgrading.

When you run the update your MN will go to the back of the queue.  That's why the advice is to update only after your masternode has been paid:

MN owners:
upgrade after your MN is paid as there is a protocol bump. Because of this a new start is required after upgrading.

No, if you don't update you will still be paid for now. Just update as soon as you'll be paid and you should be fine.
EDIT: ahh, you already upgraded...

Passing the “Facebook Test”

A few months ago a friend told me he was interested in cryptocurrencies. Scott is in his 50’s, intelligent, and successful in business. He is by no means a tech expert, but he uses his smartphone extensively, he’s active on social media sites, and he’s comfortable shopping online. He had done some research on cryptocurrencies and wanted to invest in a few, mainly Dash, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.
