I sold off any Darkcoin I had last week. Not sure why it's taking off now. Anyway I sold it because the darksend technology is cool and all, but I can't really see the benefit. For anonymous payments you can't really beat cash, and for businesses, saying you now take Darkcoin is another way of saying "If you're ashamed to buy our stuff, here is a solution!" Err, right
I'm glad you sold. You are too stupid to understand the bigger picture anyways. I'm sure a country coin is calling you. So uncalled for. If you wanna spread negativity you can do that elsewhere

I should of rephrased that. I can't see the benefit of anonymous payments over the internet unless you are trying to do something illegal. your imagination seems limited. Think harder.

I don't think it's that simple.. Are new people just discovering Darkcoin now?? Doesn't seem likely. Or, did people not think it was going to progress to this stage? Or, is someone just using the release schedule to pump the hell out of Darkcoin?
It's just that most people in altcoins have a very short focus in terms of investment horizon. When nothing happens for a few days or weeks they lose interest. It's like watching TV and getting bored with the content, wanting to change the channel. Just look at the "sentiment" in the last few pages prior to exiting beta and entering release candidate status: 1) people noticing that activity in the thread is lowered = quick to declare that the coin is dead 2) people noticing that the price trendline is slightly negative = quick to declare that the coin is dead 3) people noticing that other coins are more "interesting" with their pumps and dumps = quick to declare that the coin is dead It is indicative of the state of affairs that even one of the most actively developed coins (bleeding edge coin) can make users with the bumblebee-syndrome get "bored". This small raise in price cannot be considered a pump. If it goes to $5-$10 ok, it might be considered pumped. But now? These were normal price levels prior to the ccex incident. And it wasn't even done with any significant volume so it might correct (or it might not - I hope it does because I want to buy some more ) as people again lose interest until the final release, or even after final release where they'll be expecting the whole world to adopt DRK within a day or so, when this is in fact a multi-year-process (BTC adoption is still in its infancy).

It's harder to transmit cash over the internet. Can't send cash in envelopes and money orders aren't normally accepted because of fraud. +1 I hadn't even considered the issue about people sending cash in the mail.

If you're not up to it, it's better to use money in other business.

I think you might be right. I can see the problem now, it's probably because I'm in my 30's and I'm buying things based on what I think they'll be worth a year from now. I'll take another look at Darkcoin after a week or two.

so where do we see the price going too, i see a lot of potential any ideas?
This thread's official estimate is $250, as prophecized by coins101. A prophecy on what is turning out to be a very Good Friday It's not a prophecy, more of a valuation based on anticipated real world use and comparative USPs against every other alt-coin. Bitcoin has first mover advantage and is way ahead of the game in terms of brand value. Yet The one thing that people think it offers, anonymity, it doesn't. Quite the opposite. Darkcoin uses the same source code as bitcoin, with added features to give anonymity and a different hashing approach. It has achieved what Bitcoin set out to achieve, it has become eCash. What value would you attribute to that for a project that is a few months old? Clearly, $10bn is out of the question. But if Darkcoin has the potential to reach $10bn in a few years time, then $600m+ valuation now, based on 10% - 20% of Bitcoin is reasonable. That gets you to $150 - $300 per DRK share. Now compare Darkcoin to Litecoin. You have to ask why Litecoin deserves to have any value above Darkcoin, especially since Scrypt ASICs are coming and the creator of Litecoin is concerned that LTC will suffer as a result. That is why he is on reddit courting the Dogecoin community. Second mover advantage? Yeah, right. Who won silver at the last Olympics? Now compare almost every other alt-coin against Bitcoin, Litecoin and Darkcoin. eCash is a stand out feature that gives the internet freedom of cash transactions, with the potential to abide by regulatory constraints with third party KYC. A prophecy? I'd say a valuation expectation based on evidence. If Darkcoin were a start-up in Silicon Valley, it would have VCs all over it. They would be stuffing $100m in to the project with an expectations of creating a momentum stock on IPO with a $2bn valuation. I beg your leave to declare that anyone buying Darkcoin is soon to become an astronaut. Better get on board the mother ship.

Shitcock. Was going to buy more this morning but my brother in law tied me up on the phone for hours. Another in the long line of black marks I hold against him... Also, suddenly my X11 rigs are in demand on betarigs. I have upped my prices outrageously. Now to just suck it up and buy what I can at current prices...

EDIT: You should read the annual statement from the Bitcoin Foundation Chairman. https://bitcoinfoundation.org/blog/?p=679It's not that other coins have a lesser anonymity mechanism. They don't have any. Before you can compare apples with apples, you need to research the basics of the fundamental problem of eCash and alt-coins.

This is probably unfounded paranoia on my part, but as a linux guy I feel a little uncomfortable running the RC qt binary, can't wait to be able to build from source. I appreciate why it is as it is currently, just sayin'
