Can you add the hashrate for each of hosts to the page header? Total, west, east and eu.. It's more fun to compete in teams than individually ))

Question about PPLNS:

I can understand PPLNS when it takes hours and days to find the next block. Pool jumpers going from pool to pool right after a block is found in the hopes of getting in on a quickly found block. Two questions:

1) Assuming Waffle was mining LTC, why not just delay posting Bock Found until 10% into the next block. With the current GH rate if you waited until confirmed to post, you would be close to solving the next block anyway.
2) Since the pool tends to mine blocks that are found in minutes, isn't the risk of pool jumpers low?

So, is there really an advantage of PPLNS over PPS for Wafflepool?

As for the pinging, I was getting < 20ms from cpu to stratum proxy, 12ms to VPS, and 17ms to Wafflepool. I thought that it would be low enough, but maybe not?
Not that bad. I have 32ms directly to Wafflepool. But the proxy itself will also add some latency. And if you are using getwork then the notifications about expired/new blocks won't reach your miners. Even if longpoll is supported and used, compared to stratum it has a higher chance to "deliver" the block expiration notification too late. And this can become significant in a pool with a very big hashrate. In the last 10 minutes there was minimum a dozen new block with just 1 second difference to the previous one.

My thought would be, what is the disadvantage of PPLNS over PPS?  Its an extremely fair payment scheme, and from my side, is already implemented Smiley  And one thing I definitely don't want to start tweaking (since its already working) is the payout system.  Not that it isn't changable, but changing things that are working can lead to trouble Smiley

One major issue of PPS, is it moves a lot of risk onto my side.  There is a reason why most PPS pools are 5% fee (they have to be, or they run a very significant risk of losing more coins than they have).

The other thing about PPS (larger, at least from a programming side), is the value per share (PPS value) is completely determined based on coin difficulty.  And since we switch coins every few seconds (normally anywhere from 5s to 30s), and within that 5-30s time period, blocks can be found, and most coins now have a KGW (difficulty change per block instead of every X blocks), the value we pay out per share would be changing at close to every second, which is a _ton_ more calculation.

tldr; PPLNS is working fine, PPS is risky for me, and PPS is too much calculation for this many coins that change difficulty quickly.

We already have it listed on our admin page, I'll see what I can do to precalc it every minute or so and display on our stats page somewhere.  Its a bit of a heavy query currently since it looks directly at shares over the last 30 seconds, and was only intended for me to pull up every few minutes (make sure servers are all up and hashing fine).

A quick note about the 2 pie charts we have that I just noticed, they're very obviously wrong Smiley

They are calculated based on data from our switcher (the piece which looks at which coin is most profitable, and tells servers which to work on).  That data is correct, however we're currently running multiple switchers for testing different algorithms with different sections of servers, and the "which coin are we mining" data is only being sent from the primary switcher (about half the pool hashrate).

So don't be surprised when you see that chart saying we've been mining these 5 coins, and when you see a few others in the blocks found list.  It will get fixed, but again its just a bit down the list Smiley

Also: As usual, we've got 2 withdrawals pending at Cryptsy, one from late last night, one from this morning.  As this has become a pretty standard thing, it looks like their hot wallet runs out overnight, and someone refills it mid-day.  I'm not nearly as worried about it anymore, and it just means that payouts on average will be later in the day (same as the last few days).  With me requesting withdrawals early in the day, them arriving later, and running payouts when they come through.

Hi Poolwaffle - I note that Cryptsy added “makewithdrawal” call to thier api.   ("This allows you to make a withdrawal to a trusted withdrawal address"). Could you not just run this once every 30 mins - hour and heavily reduce the impact of their hot wallet limitations?

I'd rather not have 48 tiny transactions per day sent to my wallet please, it increases transaction fees when sending the bitcoins again to an exchange or buying things.

Who said anything about sending it to you 48 times a day? That part works great. Just get it out of Craptsy in manageable chunks ready to payout on schedule.

I gotta admit, I never had problems with waffle. Really low reject rates too.

I also admit that I am testing out clevermining to see if their claims of profitability match their stats. My reject rate there though....  Cry

Please report back, as this is a great piece of info.  We can obviously claim 10% higher stats, if 10% of everyones hashrate gets rejected Smiley  I'm personally too involved to give any sort of non-biased stats, and I appreciate anyone that can come back and say "from time A to B, I earned C on wafflepool, and D on <whoeverelse>".  WP has things to learn from other pools, they have things to learn from us Smiley

Ran for 24h at clevermining, hashing at 3.6 MH/s, their website reports I had a 13% reject rate (0.5 MH) and my profits were 0.03139240 btc.

If you do the math vs my actual hashrate, that would only be 0.00872 btc/MH.
If you calculate it out vs my accepted MH, that would be 0.0101265 btc/MH.

So read it however you want. Your btc/MH is fairly accurate there based on accepted MH, not your actual hash rate.

I think I made more here? Last time I was doing a test run i had to shut my rig off for a couple hours, so it wasn't a fair comparison. I'm giving it another go now for the next 24h.

I know one day isn't a fair comparison, but I'm not comparing profits to profits, but rather what the pool says you should get per mh vs what you actually get.

You really have to take btc/MH values posted on sites with a grain of salt. It's easy to get caught up in the math when you mine at 3.6 MH and you see > 0.01 btc/MH per day, so you expect to see > 0.036 btc/day which is only true if you had a 0% reject rate. I might as well have unplugged one of my gpus with how much hashrate I was throwing away at clevermining.

Wafflepool is usually around 0.009 to 0.01. if my reject rate is as low as it usually is here, I should be slightly more profitable. Time will tell!

edit: as shares and value of coins changes all the time, my 24h profit at clever now reports as 0.03240274 BTC which works out to 0.01045 btc/mh (using 3.1 MH) or 0.009000 btc/MH (using 3.6 MH)

I was thinking the same , If Clevermining sorted it's rejects out PoolWaffle might have a competitor until then I think this is probably the best one to go for, My rejects are normally less than 1% here which is the best I've seen so far on any pools like it.

I hope we get the payouts sorted because it's harder for me to work out what I've earned when it's not on time that's my only gripe.
