wtf is happening in crypto market???
profit rate falling to ltc maybe below
 Huh Huh
any ideas?

People are starting to realize a crap clone coin made by a kid in his mom's basement might not have any long term value or following... That is the problem in a nutshell. Too many coins and bids are spread too thin combined with a lot of selling. Constant selling.

I will not be surprised if the time of multipools has passed and end up just mining 2-3 coins max. At that point i will just pick the coin i want to mine myself...

LTC, DOGE and some others aren't going anywhere.  Most people know there are crap coins but they also know there are really good coins that are built responsibly and stand to serve a meaningful interest as viable currency.

The market of constant buying and selling affected by various external influences is what will eventually sink or boost any of the coins.  No sudden epiphany of a few hipsters will ever end crypto currency.  The only thing to fear is action and inaction of the fearful.  Or, more specifically, the massively hysterical.

+1

I'm pretty sure 1 account (wafflepool, not to mention other multi pools) selling hundreds of BTC worth of alt coins daily drives the market down.

Exactly, the market isn't stable because of the floods of copy/paste/sed coins artificially inflating the market value. So when the price "goes down" people panic.

If it wasn't a multi-pool, someone else would be mining those coins and selling them, so this logic is pretty flawed.

Value of coins going down?  Hmmm... well, if I remember my supply/demand economics an increase in supply with constant demand will decrease value/price.

It seems that there are plenty of coins out there, and the amount of mining capacity is increasing daily.  So supply is increasing.  Now, what about the demand?  Is there ANYTHING that actually is increasing demand lately?  Good news to get speculators to drop their money so we can pick it up?  Has someone created a killer app that will utilize any crypto currencies?  What has changed other than perhaps the mood of speculators?

Look - we all have to accept that the effective $/Mh is going to keep dropping month over month unless something happens to actually put all these numbers (cryptocoins) to work.  If anyone here REALLY believes that there is real value in the coins right now (i.e. enough uses to justify the 'average Joe' buying/holding/using them) please explain.  Everything I read is hopeful and or speculative.

Don't misunderstand - I really do believe there will be a place for this type of technology in the future.  I just don't see it right now.  If/when my mother sees a need to have some crypto currency then I'll know it has gone mainstream.  I can see paths to this future and I like them, but I don't know that it will ever happen; certainly there is a good chance it will happen in a different way than any of us can predict right now.

For now I mine for value.  I like to gamble on keeping a small portion too, but I believe in making hay while the sun is shining and I expect it may be past noon on this fine day.  I also know there will be another day after this one.. hopefully I get my crops planted early.

Holy shit.. Seconded. Thirded. PW, this is the ONLY change you need to focus on. Well this and a donation increase option so I can up mine after we become PirateWaffle!

Can anyone confirm that it is safe to mine while front end is down? Last time similar stuff happened, shares were still accepted but we lost 6-7 hours of mining time.

It appears no shares are being counted.  Almost certainly, if you are mining right now, you're not earning anything.

I moved my miners elsewhere for the time being... lost over 2 hours of shares already.

Edit: looks like stats are back up, and shifts have been counting shares.

Something is messed up tho, because the shifts are variable and super short right now

WAFFLEStats v0.8 - "How to Fetch" Edition

Hey guys! Just popping in to let you guys know what I've been working on. My day job has been putting quite a bit of work on my plate the last week so I've not had a lot of down time to add new features. What I have managed to push out, though, is quite exciting.

Server-Side Hashrate and Balance Fetching
The servers will now continue grabbing your current data in the background even when you're not on the stats page.

This has a few limitations:
1) Background-fetching only happens at 5 minute intervals. However, while on the stats page your stats are still updated and saved at a 1-minute interval level. I may reduce this slightly over the next few days as the bugs are worked out.
2) You must visit the stats page at least once every 3 days for server-side fetching to continue. For now this is to gauge load, and, like above, as I monitor server load and if people request it I may increase this to 7 days.

I'm also still trying to be very cognizant of load on both the api that /u/poolwaffle [+2][2] set up as well as people who stop using wafflepool/waffles leaving and background stats being essentially a black hole on server load for the rest of us.

Unsent Balance Historical Plotting and Legends
These ones are not as exciting, but a few of you have requested it. There is now an option to show/hide the unsent balance line on the historical chart, as well as a legend for both charts. Someone actually /yelled/ at me for not having a legend. I felt bad.

So, there are the changes so far. I've spent the last few days working on the fetching, making it load balanced across both servers etc. Also just spent the last two hours fighting a bug that I'd never experienced before because wafflestats was down.

Features I plan on implementing in the coming days:

  • Dark/Light Theme Switching
  • BTC Statistics (BTC/kHash, BTC per hour, BTC per 24 hour, etc)
  • Payouts to graphs
  • Improvements to layout for mobile and switching between range/resolution/visibility

As always, server costs are insane, and the current downtrend in pool mining profitability isn't helping. 5 days into the month and server costs are at ~$21. If you love, <3, and use WAFFLES, please, consider donating mining time or bitcoin to: 1Pr87ypYdG8eMTNUXR4rT1q2P1VJ7yu1b5

Looks that way... it also seems like I didn't lose any income while the stats were down, although the stats are completely foobar now.

Nope. And even if that was the case, it's YOUR fault for not having a failover pool set up. Learn to mine or leave.
That was a rude and ignorant comment.  This is a KNOWN issue with wafflepool, that has occurred at least twice previously. The pool continues to accepts shares but does not count them, so a failover is useless.  It seems it was a very short period this time, and I do seem to have gotten paid somewhat appropriately for the period when shares were not published this time.

Learn to not be an idiot, or leave.  How about that?

Failover pool switch wouldnt engage if shares are still accepted though.
