Not many admins use abuse reports, but they often can be more effective than some realize. Some guy over at WHT wrote a post with some scripts that could do some automated parsing of abuse emails from whois based on a list of IP addresses here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showpost.php?p=8163729&postcount=2
You could probably tweak that and then use it to email various ISPs with complaints.

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

More threats coming in, nothing hitting yet.  Obviously not very involved in Bitcoin.  They seem to think pools make 10x more profit than they actually do.  Still stressing that any miners on BTC Guild should have multiple backup pools setup just in case.

Merged mining uses Bitcoin hashes to solve Namecoin blocks.  You're doing the exact same work you were doing before.  A little extra work is done by the pool server, but the performance cost is non-existent since our pool software generates the getworks internally, rather than using bitcoind/namecoind.

To be fair, they asked for it via LibertyReserve, which is basically a money laundering front for the vast majority of its users.  But yes, all demands were straight USD.  I suppose its to save them the trouble of converting it from BTC->USD->LR.

haha yea, that was the first thought that came to mind. They do realize you make a whopping 2.5BTC per mined block right? So it is really the users they should be trying to ransom..

If you're not excited by the idea of being an early adopter 'now', then you should come back in three or four years and either tell us "Told you it'd never work!" or join what should, by then, be a much more stable and easier-to-use system.

... I dont want any nmc ...
So just create an account at Vircurex and sell off your NMC for BTC there.

They'll send email notifications when your coins arrive, and get traded, so once you have your account created, grab your NMC deposit addy from there, and set BTCGuild up to auto-payout to that addy.

Then, when the NMC payout happens, and Vircurex sends you the email about your deposit, just sell for BTC, and voila! Bonus BTC! Smiley

-- Smoov

edit: oh, and as for the DDoS threats, feel free to add my BTC P2Pool node (listed below) as a backup pool if any of you like. Use a BTC address as your username to get your payouts generated directly into your wallet, any password. Works same as solo mining, but based on PPLNS. Can't have too many backups Cheesy

lol. A DDoS is a Distributed Denial of Service attack - i.e., there are thousands of computers performing the attack, of which none would belong to the attacker since all he does is coordinate them.

That's the real problem.  The other problem is they're DDoS'ing a mining pool.  A server that is constantly being bombarded by anywhere from 1500 to 2500 random IP addresses.  Makes it very tough to even get a list of bad IPs.

Sounds like a lot of work that would scare off the newbies, more work than letting the skiddies spend money on a DDoS when they could be doing other productive things.

And if they run their own botnet instead of paying for it, it will be more likely that they will get found out and shut down faster.
