so we are disabled on Bittrex?

that blows. i have about 22,000 sitting there.

Maybe the double spend issue again? We still don't know if it was a Octocoin wallet issue or a problem caused by Bittrex...Devs wanted to fix it, but we never recieved a update

Just an update on the Bittrex situation: we have received additional details from Richie and are digging into the issue. For those concerned about OctoCoin potentially being delisted from Bittrex, here are Richie's comments:

"Don't worry about delisting... I'm more concerned about this problem because it might impact a lot more than just octo."

Basically, as some of you have already gathered, some of the transaction comments are apparently being overwritten which is how Bittrex manages payouts. They froze 888 trading and put up a "delisting" warning both to prevent additional repeats and to expedite action on our part. While we have never experienced this issue nor seen reports of any issues until now, not all services operate in the same manner. It's possible this is an issue that has been corrected in the latest Bitcoin Core source code and, if that is the case, we will ensure the fix is implemented and release our new wallet ahead of schedule. Regardless, Bittrex may want to consider a new method for verifying withdrawals to avoid this potential issue with other currencies. We will get it all straightened out.

And this has happened again.  This only happens with this wallet so at this point we request an octocoin fix Sad

It is not an user forceable scenario but to provide more details, if ALL of these conditions are met, we end up double paying out twice:

* If we send a withdrawal request
* If it times out before returning a txid
* If the send subsequently succeeds
* If the send uses input from a previously conflicted transaction

What happens is that the send succeeds, but uses the comment from the previous conflicted transaction.  This causes us to not see a payment match and we resubmit.  There is no reason why a sendtoaddress call made with a comment is replaced with a comment from a transaction from over 6 months ago.  Please figure this out and solve this issue.  At this time, we will be shutting down the wallet for deposits/withdrawals until we can find a solution.

Thanks,
richie@bittrex

welp, maybe this will evoke a response from the devs. this isn't good news, but it's actionable news, so it could be a lot worse.

that's my attempt at optimism masking a torrent of depression.

and just a question FrameLA, why is "March" for some reason a legitimate due date to hold them to? and not any of the other timelines they've set? because it's the one that hasn't passed yet? lol. keep passing the buck...

I might be alone here, but I see us as gamblers. I don't consider us investors.  Huh

Same here.

And I think we're all alone here now.  If you listen carefully over the sound of the rustling tumbleweed you can hear a band playing the opening notes of the funeral march.

Last one out turn out the light... oh and switch off that 168MH/s still blindly churning away   Wink

Since getting into Cryptocurrency I've had many bags, all but two have varied over time.  Those are the two I see in the mirror where my eyes once shone.

I moved mine (was 168 but a miner died!).  Been mining OCTO for months!  Moved it this morning after Bittrex locked the market.

March is not a legitimate date for anything. But in my mind I said I am happy to just kinda chill until March because that is the year mark and also the time frame when they were discussing everyone coming to Vegas.

That won't happen if something positive hasn't happened with this coin by then.

And I also have no expectations or will hold the March date over their head since they haven't set that as any date.

Do you think taking my date out of context and comparing it to what you have done the past three weeks is the same thing?

I will agree with you that at least this is some news that is going to require some response from the devs hopefully. However, I really don't expect much more than what we got from the last Bittrex debacle from them. A post or two of the same.

I'm just here now to see if they pull anything off out of this mess.

i guess i misread what you were saying, not expecting anything until march is probably at the very least a safe bet. i'm putting my money on something before the year 2020, in time for the parabolic flight reunion around the moon.

does anyone have info concerning the bittrex issue from last month? was that ever resolved? what action was taken? i remember reading some strongly-worded posts from octocoin, weren't they going to release a wallet post haste to fix the situation or something? trading resumed so i assumed it had all been sorted. does someone have a better chronology?

yeah i remember it was supposedly fixed. i mean bittrex resumed so they must have thought that they fixed it. surprised it's still the same kinda issue. that's another reason why i honestly don't get too bent outta shape with stuff not releasing on time... i mean the wallet or exchanges with the wallet have issues. could you imagine the blowback from an issue like this had Octo been trading at a much higher price and volume? it woulda killed it just like other coins who had some type of issue when it's worth 50 cents or $2.

but yeah... i would think with the holidays coming up i don't expect much from them... but maybe in the new year the wallet will be fixed and maybe some stuff released?

it sux, i know. and i really expected much more from them by this point. the only thing i can think is, at least they aren't making a killing scamming off people. if their wallet balances were being sold and they bounced and abandoned something i'd be livid. that's just dishonest. at this point, i think they just are having issues and trying to get all their ducks in a row... or at least that's what i hope. i could be totally wrong. but one thing you can see is nobody, including the devs are making any $$$ off Octo at this point. it has just cost whatever you have put into it with no return so far.

as for the timelines.... i saw a post the other day where the coin had timelines all on their website and bitcointalk forum and each one of the items had been met already or were running on time. it's sad to see that Octo hasn't turned out this way. and this coin has many similar features that Octo was promising. kinda hard to watch other coins pass them by and by the time Octo does it, it may not mean as much as it would have back in March-September time frame.

the crypto world changes quickly. and at this point i don't even know if i trust much promise in alternate blockchains. i mean Counterparty is doing big things on the Bitcoin blockchain and has Swarm and Overstock.com working with them. NXT has their whole deal and I love Nxttycoin and the Nxtty Cryptomessenger idea that will be on iPhone and Androids soon. who knows what might happen with Etherium and Maidsafecoin.... the list goes on, but most alts just seem kinda dull to me now. the POS coin phase might bring something new to revive it but i'm not holding my breath.

I'm having trouble syncing my wallet for a few hours now. Anyone else? Could this be due to maintainance from the devs?

If you look at the block explorer, someone jacked the diff way up, then bailed. There was an 8 hour gap between blocks being found and now its been nearly nine hours since that block was found. Network hash rate is too low to break through very quickly. So... ~17hours and only one block found makes the wallets move very slowly. Until another block is found, the wallet will not update.

jesus, as if we don't have enough problems right now... some asshat jacks the diff up then bails? you mean like how coinmine.pw does things?

i mean if there's no other big players on the network, then wouldn't the multipools just rape it whenever they choose to nibble?

this is going from bad to worse.

FUCKING DEVS SAY SOMETHING.

I guess coinmine.pw would disable the coin as there is currently no exchange for it...unfortunately the admin is on vacation.

I believe the diff spike we saw could have been open heart surgery. Maybe it's not safe to modify node wallets when steadily blocks are coming in. But if you have a window of a few hours...
Just a guess, I could be wrong

I really hope Octocoin hasn't died...I wrote 3 mails to the devs 2 days ago and yesterday. I informed them about Bittrex situation, and the fears of the community...no response so far.

If the weekend comes and goes without a fix or at the very least a communication then my own conclusion will be that Octo is abandoned.  This on the basis that if they're too busy to fix an important issue during the working week due to other commitments then surely they would do whatever they can to fix it over the weekend.

I wouldn't mind betting that Octo will be gone from Bittrex by the end of this month.  What a waste.

I don't think they reply directly to emails. In the past they've just popped up here after enough fuss has been made. Has anyone had a personal reply to an email they've sent them?

yeah, i hate to sound like tin-foil hat guy here, but this only further illustrates how all of this is perpetrated by one person.

we've never seen more than one and a half web sites, a working wallet (hold on scratch that) and a bunch of lip service.

really, tell me ONE thing that would have taken more than one person, more than a weekend (total) to do.

please stop using the word "devs" because there isn't one shred of evidence that this is anything more than a hoax by one person.

and before you try calling me out for being unfair etc. just answer that question, what proof is there? why mention a parabolic flight with no pictures? why mention service timelines to be instantly forgotten? it's easy! you're (me too) all suckers! sorry to say it, but you've all been had.

in all honesty the most plausible scenario at this point is that we've all been privvy to a university undergrad's social sciences experiment. "how long can a group of adults be strung along, with no evidence whatsoever, and how much money will they lose in the process?" i'm sure all of our screen names will appear in a peer-reviewed paper entitled: "susceptibility to gullibility in adults".

how much can greed blind an otherwise rational adult into thinking things are happening which there is no evidence for? this is cult territory, or god forbid religion.

this is such a fucking joke. I wanna hear Bholzer's side to all of this, tell us what's happened in the latest "conference call" . ppPppffffff hahahahahaah

IN SHORT, I'M REALLY FUCKING FED UP. PLEASE DON'T CRUCIFY ME.
