Surely not looking good for the Bongs. Their best bet would be a slow pitch, they shouldn't risk anything with any experiment in terms of Spin friendly deck.

Sri Lankan spinners such as Hasaranga are in top form right now. If Bangladesh prepares a spin-friendly pitch, then it will backfire upon them and I won't be surprised if they get bowled out for two digit totals. This is something that they should avoid at all cost. A safer option for them would be to prepare tracks that are more conductive for batting. Anyway, the first test match is scheduled for tomorrow. It will take place at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, which is notorious for it's spin-friendly track.

In test cricket, a bowler who can bowl really fast is certainly really important. so this is going to be a big blow for Bangladesh. At first, I thought I was really underestimating the Bangladeshi players even though I was saying they have no chance but now I genuinely believe that they don't have any chance.

Bangladesh is already a very weak team in test cricket and not having Shakib Al Hasan in the team only causes more problems for Bangladesh. I have seen Bangladesh lose from certain winnable positions. I know that Sri Lanka is also not in a good situation right now and Bangladesh will surely try to exploit those problems. If Shakib Al Hasan was there for both the matches I would have said Bangladesh has a good chance of winning but now I think otherwise.

Now we have new updates from Bangladesh side as they are going to allow Shakib for this first home test series of this season even it's still big problems waiting for them in bowling but with this now they have some relief because he is well experienced player in all formats and one off most well decorated which can bring some good for his team.

With Sri Lanka having new coach and many new players are also included into this side it's also big challenge for them as not good news coming from home after political tension is going on but most chances they will play their best game against struggling Bangladesh which is having scores of 53 and 80 in their last few innings against South Africa after having very good draw series into New Zealand.

Well... I checked the stats of both Embuldeniya and Hasaranga, and I would agree with your argument (Still Wanindu has played just 4 tests, so there is always a chance that he will improve in the future). And I agree with the second part as well. Sri Lanka is producing some promising cricketers lately and that is good for the future of cricket in that country. Both Wanindu and Lasith are 24-25 years old, so they have the potential to grow to the level of legendary players such as Lasith Malinga or Muttiah Muralitharan.

Mathews-Mendis duo batting nicely. Dickwella is next, he's excellent bat and can contribute in 30s easily, if got lucky then may be 50-ish runs too. Next guy Ramesh Mendis is also handy with the bat so that's a good sign. 9,10,11 are genuine tailender but Lasith Embuldeniya knows how to swing bat.

So Sri Lanka strategy would be straight forward, just dig in for 2 more sessions and runs will come automatically. With some luck on their side they could manage 3 RR easily.

After losing their two main bowlers this was expecting from Bangladesh, so they are suffering very badly against very good batting from Sri Lankans with now Mathews and Chandimal both on crease with 75 runs partnership which will be key for this match if these two able to stay on crease for some more time than surely it's going to be beneficial for visitors as they are having some good experienced players and pitch could be more slow in coming days which is also helpful for them now they need to go through for big score which is 450+ because this can give them driving seat in this match, and they can bring Bangladesh under pressure which is having very poor batting record in last few test matches at home and abroad.

Why Mustafizur Rahman is not playing in this test match? Shoriful Islam and Khaled Ahmed didn't had any venom in their bowling, and the Lankan batsmen handled them with ease. BCB needs to put a little bit more effort in producing pace bowlers. Everytime they are producing tracks that are too supportive of spin bowling, and as a result they are facing a shortage of quality pace bowlers. I would say that Mustafizur was the only quality pace bowler who emerged after the retirement of Mashrafe bin Murtaza. The board needs to look in to this issue.

With the responsible batting of Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal, Sri Lanka now has 296 runs. Mathews scored 135 runs and Chandimal 51 runs. The Bangladesh team lacks experienced bowlers. Taijul and Shakib are the key bowlers today. However, the Sri Lankan players are dealing with these two bowlers very carefully. Shakib bowled 26 overs, gave only 41 runs, and got 1 wicket. Taizul took 1 wicket with 80 runs in 36 overs.

I do not understand why Bangladeshi management has put pace bowlers in the squad. Two pace bowlers bowled only 30 overs out of 108 overs. The pitch was spin-friendly, and the Bangladeshi management was concerned about the importance of the spinners in the team.

Both Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal have vast experience and I'm not surprised that they delivered it on time. It is Dinesh Chandimal's 21st fifty in Test cricket. Chandimal's return to form has been long-awaited. A great start from both seniors, well done Chandimal. In the first innings, Sri Lanka is hoping to score big with a solid partnership led by Angelo Mathews, and Bangladesh on the back foot. It is evident that Bangladesh struggles with bowling, as there are no threats from bowling units other than Taijul and Shakib. In light of the second test match, BCB should pay attention to finding a quality pace bowler.

This is some fine level of collapse from the Lankans. They were looking extremely dominating but Nayeem Hassan and Shakib manage to bring back Bongs in the game in just 2 overs (2 wickets each in same over).

Now 400 run mark looks almost impossible for the SL.

Nayeem Hasan took 4 wickets. However, Angelo Mathews is still at the crease. Probably Sri Lanka will collect about 450. And if Bangladeshi batsmen bat-like fools then Sri Lanka will win very easily. Bangladeshi batsmen are not experienced enough for the Test format.
