Biodom, where is the auto that you were posting about for upper volt limit? I upgraded to 2.6.9 but don't see it. I see a scheduling feature which is new.

It's on the dropdown for the fan speed: (EDIT) Sorry, didnt read your post correctly, I can only find an Auto on the Fan speed dropdown.

So for me, to buy say the equivalent of a SP35 and host it myself vs cloud mining it

SP35: $2235 + $150 shipping = $2385

5TH Cloud: $2232 + $2230 (5000 * 0.446/gh) upfront maintance fee = $4462

The difference is substantial and thats if you pay it up front.

The "daily charge" of $0.0015/GH works out to $7.5/day or $228/month for 5TH

Just have to compare that to the hosting fees you pay. For me its too close. Cloud mining should be much cheaper than hosted because of economies of scale.

On a final note, I'm not bashing Genesis mining, I think they are, truly one of the real cloud mining providers with real hardware and hashrate to back up their business model, also having Guy and Spondoolies vouch for them goes a long way in my book, its just that for now, for me, cloud mining isn't the solution. But I'll keep an eye out.

Biffa, thx for your calculation. I think it is very important for everybody to crunch the numbers and feel comfortable.
Unfortunately I cannot follow you on this line:

5TH Cloud: $2232 + $2230 (5000 * 0.446/gh) upfront maintance fee = $4462

Can you please elaborate where the 2232 USD are coming from? Much appreciated.

MS

Fair enough if I read it wrong, the contract looks like it says that the "fee" is either a) or b)

So I was, apparently incorrectly, assuming that the fee was either $0.446/GH up front on top of the initial cost of the hashrate OR, $0.0015/GH per day. I thought you were offering a one of maintenance fee in perpetuity of $0.446/GH Smiley

But now seeing others analysis of it it seems that you are saying the initial TH price is based on the $0.446/GH and then there is a the daily charge.

I'll edit my post.

So its pretty simple, if it costs you more than $230 a month to have your SP35 co-located, or more than $230 a month in electricty to run your 5TH of SP20's then this is a good deal. If it costs you less than the maintenance charge to run your 5TH at home or in a colo, then its not a good deal Smiley

Ah ohne more thing
Spondoolies recommend genesis mining , i think by my Self that sp-t is the most reliable company.
But in this case no contract i see , someone write a GH/s cost 1 BTC someone write 2 BTC.
But sp-t recommend minersource hosting too !!!!!
I choose this , so here is my report.
They have my unit since , 31 october , october batch .
So they Need 13 days to get it online , then 3 days offline, now 10 days again.
When i ask for name who reply to my mails no answer.
After all mir s claim my unit was shout down because no payment.
But i paid 3 months before which means for November ,December and January.
So Maybe sp-t means it good but such a Bad support like minersource i Never See.
I can't wait to See how it works with genesis-mining
Ah you from sp-t Know Genesis-mining so of Course you would put a Hand into the fire ??
Because for minersource i wouldn't Do ,and you have it on your Website.

Genesis-Mining, can you clarify the fine print clause at the bottom of the terms?

Quote
*if, on any day, Coins generated on one day do not suffice to pay item 2 of the Fee above, the Service Provider may use Coins generated on any day thereafter for such payment.

Would it not be better to just terminate the contract if that happens, or suspend it or something?

Just registered with Genesis to have a look around the site ... it won't accept my BTC address, even tried a few different ones.

Keep getting "You don't have a Bitcoin wallet yet? Click here to get started!"

Not saying I'll start cloud mining, just poking around ... taking it all in.

Biodom, where is the auto that you were posting about for upper volt limit? I upgraded to 2.6.9 but don't see it. I see a scheduling feature which is new.

Sorry, corrected typo, meant wattage plus I probably was not very specific: auto if for fans, of course, but if you set auto for fans and a certain upper voltage limit, then you DO NOT have to adjust upper wattage level since the machine will adjust each different loop at a specific voltage and wattage (as long as it is below your upper voltage limit).

What I was getting at is that this (wattage) would be different for each loop and you won't be able to achieve this if you use limited power setting for watts (like 160-165 instead of 288)

Thanks, I thought I was missing something new. That is what I am doing with one next to my desk, fan bearable and still getting 1400 GH/s.

NOTE I HAVE PSU TO SPARE. So my argument is for me no one else unless you have psu's to spare

cloud mining is just wicked hard to make money doing.

I read the contract  a few times and I do not like this line :

b. USD 0.0015 per GH/s and day, deducted on a daily basis* from the generated Coins

1000gh = 1.50 usd a day  or 45 usd a month

if I downclock 1 sp20 to 1000gh I will spend 470 watts on my kwatt meter x 24 = 11.128 kwatts a day make it 12 kwatts a day or

360 kwatts a month 12 cents  a kwatt = 43.2 usd a month.

I have the sp20 in hand  I got one on ebay for 392 after discounts

There is a solid ebay seller asking 420 a unit or best offer.

so buying 1000 gh in the cloud from genisis cost more up front 446 or 469   vs  390-410

and more to run 45 usd vs 43.2usd at 12 cents a kwatt.

with one setup I have nothing  ie the cloud contract is basically nothing .  the other I have a miner.

the cloud 469 out of pocket then 45 usd a month

the ebay buy 392 out of pocket then 36 a month my power is 10 cents until summer rates.

So genesis is just too much money for me. If it were June 1st and my power moves from 10 to 16 cents yeah I may do it. not now.

I need to do better then buying one on ebay ..

which means under 392  and under 36 usd a month.  with some kind of buy back after 90 days.==== this would equal the ebay deal not beat it.

These are my circumstances  so I understand if you have :

 A) no space
B) power over 15 cents
C) want coins  + some type of mining

but genesis Just does not fit for me and does  not fit until June (maybe).

updated my SP20E with the lastest firmware and I also see that my miner doesn't react the same way with the Asic temp. Looks like it's less aggressive. My temp are going down and the speed doesn't ajust.

I will roll back to 2.6.1

Has anyone that has upgraded to firmware 2.6.9 seen slightly slower hash rate? I've flashed 6 SP20's and everyone of then is  10-20GH/s slower vs firmware 2.6.4. Just curious if anyone else is seeing the same.

Yep the same behavior. Less aggressive with the hashrate even if the temp goes down.

cloud mining is just wicked hard to make money doing.

I read the contract  a few times and I do not like this line :

b. USD 0.0015 per GH/s and day, deducted on a daily basis* from the generated Coins

1000gh = 1.50 usd a day  or 45 usd a month

if I downclock 1 sp20 to 1000gh I will spend 470 watts on my kwatt meter x 24 = 11.128 kwatts a day make it 12 kwatts a day or

One minor quibble. I don't think the fact that that you have a spare PSU really changes the thinking a whole lot. I didn't realize until this year that a solid, reliable, PSU is an actual investment that can last. You yourself have time and again re-used a PSU for a new generation of mining hardware. While it clearly costs money to purchase a solid PSU, it will probably retain it's value way beyond the ASIC hardware that it powers for a long time to come. Even if you spend say $130 for the PSU, in one year you will still have a PSU of significant value, either for further use, or sale.

On auto fans? Or on any fans?

updated my SP20E with the lastest firmware and I also see that my miner doesn't react the same way with the Asic temp. Looks like it's less aggressive. My temp are going down and the speed doesn't ajust.

I will roll back to 2.6.1
