I think we could have a vote with 3 options: I) Source must remain closed for now II) Source must be open to a few selected trusted users III) Source must be completely open
I vote II) Source must be open to a few selected trusted users Or even just one. Who qora trusts the most. The thing is people start teaming up and developing services on top of Qora. We all put a lot of effort and money in it. I believe everybody would feel more comfortabe if we know that at least one person except qora has the source. Nxt had CfB and Jean-Luk. We need qora and someone else. Like Batman and Robin

Back on topic, this thread closing incident has got me thinking we only have one single secretive developer and no source code. I think we could have a vote with 3 options: I) Source must remain closed for now II) Source must be open to a few selected trusted users III) Source must be completely open
Yeah, I used to think just like you up to until a few hours ago.
Satoshi doesn't develop bitcoin for years now. Other people do.
Our community was not strong, when we open the source right now, everybody can clone us and maybe they can exceed us when they have a strong community. I hope everyone can be patient, waiting more features what he wanted to develop. I trust dev,he is worthy of trust. Vote for I.

I trust qora 100%. He's not a person who might let us down, that's for sure.
I also totally understand people who would like to keep the source closed. If you are one of initial investors, you basically have nothing to lose. Maybe just a couple of BTC invested in Qora.
But think about people who want to build something on top of Qora. Like encrypted messenger or something like that. It's months of hard work, probably some expenses also. Not many people would feel comfortable to start a new venture if the whole thing depends on one person. Even if they trust him. It's just not right and too risky. It was totally fine to keep the source closed from everybody, but I think that now we're getting to the point when we need a 1 or 2 more people to have it.

closed source hinder the community development Why do you think like this? Here's an example. There's a big project in a discussion stage right now. We would need at least four people/few months/few thousand dollars to make it happen. I'm sure everyone would feel more comfortable if Qora doesn't depend just on one person no matter how much we trust him. Another example. A lot of rich people out there looking for an investment opportunities. Currencies themselves or services on top of them. Those guys would also like to know that there is a team working on a coin, not a singe person.

This thread was locked for 10 hours for no reason all of sudden with no warning or explanation. It was locked when Qora was last seen online. A moderator saw no reason for it to be left locked and unlocked it. If this goes without an explanation, as if nothing happened, I'll be leaning towards liquidating my qora. I have always been calm and secure with Qora but now something really seemed off here.
I also was one of those who believed source should remain closed but now I think it should be open to a few selected trusted people such as agran, dzarmush etc. Fast.
no one is going to rush OS because of babies like you. Sell off. Go on. I'm the baby? You're the one who was expelled out of the community because not a single soul liked you. After a long time you left "never to come back again" just to come back a few hours afterwards with another sockpuppet. I'm trying to improve things around, and I have got no time to deal with people like you who 1) Don't say anything clear 2) Is disliked by everyone 3) Insults other people all the time instead of having an adult argument (called me baby now for nothing for example) 4) Tries to set an hierarchy on free enviroments 5) Attempts to attack users who actually help the community 6) Screams all the time you're the biggest stakeholder You know what? The list could be just getting bigger and bigger and I have no time to lose with you so I'll just copy smaragda here and welcome you to my ignore list like most of people have already done with you. Back on topic, this thread closing incident has got me thinking we only have one single secretive developer and no source code. I think we could have a vote with 3 options: I) Source must remain closed for now II) Source must be open to a few selected trusted users III) Source must be completely open I trust dev can open the source when he want to leave, for now,we have to be patient.
Yeah, I used to think just like you up to until a few hours ago. Satoshi doesn't develop bitcoin for years now. Other people do. You literally were going to run off cause a thread was locked for a few hours. Embarrassing.. If I made the rules you would forfeit the right to have any opinion about direction of Qora after showing that kind of weak nervous nellie support.

Why is everyone panicking?
You take a month of two to get ahead of any clones and put AE and work on the wallet etc then you go full open source.
You don't go half OS, OS is not about being cloned it's a principle in Cryptocurrencies, if you don't understand that all coins are open source then you don't get why we have to also.
YOU WILL PISS OFF THE ALTCOIN COMMUNITY If YOU DONT GO FULL OPEN SOURCE AND YOU CAN NEVER GET THAT CREDIBILITY BACK. YOU AMATEUR FUCKWITS HERE ARE GOING TO RUIN ANY CHANCE OF QORA BEING SUCCESSFUL, ITS MORONIC. DOING AN PARTIAL CHECK OF THE CODE WILL MAKE QORA LOOK LIKE ASSHOLES, WE WONT RECOVER FROM THAT I PROMISE YOU.
I wish there were cooler mature heads on here that know the culture of crypto.

re: open source. Qora had stated awhile ago, The source code of the complete project will be provided after a 1-3 months. This will protect investors against early clones. Makes sense to me, just not sure if he meant that time frame after release or after the "Guaranteed Features" were done. From my short time on this forum though, it would seem to me that anything less than a full release of the source (as per Qora's post) wouldn't be seen as favorable by the crypto community at large and a full release would actually be required for "full" acceptance.

I see no reason to go open source yet. Qora has delivered time and time again. If he really wanted to run a scam, he would be gone! He already has all the BTC! He would have nothing to gain by continuing to develop a scam coin. Qora, the coin and developer are legitimate.
There are some projects in discussion as Dzarmush mentioned. Just because it's not OS doesn't mean other projects can't be created using this coin as a platform. The API is available for anyone who is interested in creating a project.
Going open source would only serve to allay community fears in the short term. Becoming open source is the goal, but there is a right time and a wrong time to do so.

I vote II) Source must be open to a few selected trusted users Create a poll Good idea. Since we have voting system, let's use it. renat0, would you create a poll since you came up with these 3 options? those three options aren't a good idea but terrible ones as they don't give room for the normal behaviour where we open source in a set time frame ie two, three months etc. They are all extreme options that are not usual for cryptocurrency.

agree.....but you must admit we can't wait too long just like we can't do it too quickly and as far as I can see the wrong reasons like justifying ourselves. You release as a matter of principle in a confident way not out of fear.

I can certainly understand this but IMO that's a different issue than the code going OS or not which is what people seem to be talking about now. From what I see on here, it simply has to go OS at some point, no other option. But the sort of thing you bring up is more of a "security" issue and I can see having the code in the hands of one or two other trusted people simply as a security measure making sense. Interestingly though, reading some of the first posts in the thread, Qora talks about "we". So perhaps there are other involved that we're just not aware of.
