I can hardly imagine the urgency of mining so many coins, that a single individual/miner would assign so much hashrate that he is single-handedly doubling the difficulty. This person would earn a lot more coins, by mining with half the hashrate for twice the duration[1]

Perhaps his hardware/system access is such that he must point his hashrate in "all or nothing" fashion? So maybe he hops from one coin to another, in order to diversify his mining returns. Just wild guessing though, I do find this interesting.

[1] Unless he is somehow anticipating some paramount circumstance that would render mining much less rewarding, in a very short time... which doesn't make much sense to me

Very unlikely "a single individual". I bet it's a botnet.

I'm skeptical that it is a botnet.
These normally gravitate towards coins with significant enough daily trade volume, and those with hashrate high enough that overall difficulty is not substantially affected. With AEON today, both of these factors quickly make the mining returns unprofitable, generally speaking. Though, perhaps that is why he/they is/are mining on Minergate?  Roll Eyes

Back from DoS land now. The router gets in some weird state where new connections can't get through, but existing ones usually stay fine.
It'll be like that till the botnet realizes it's getting only 250 IPs mining and moves away. Sorry about that.

Wasn't there a cryptonote pool exploit allowing miners to send duplicate shares? I think minergate still has that exploit and that the hashrate reported by that miner is way off. At the moment the HR reported by minergate is higher than that of the entire network which I find hard to believe (even when taking into account the different methods of assessing the HR).

Edit: otoh, he is finding almost every block. So forget what I wrote above. Maybe someone wants to kill AEON? Smooth certainly has enough scammers guys holding a grudge against him...

Does AEON head version from smooth repo run on ARM (like a raspberry pi) given there is enough memory ?

It runs completely, except for the memory issue. I don't think there is enough virtual address space on ARM to handle it at this point, Even with pruning I got an out of memory error when I tested it. So this will have to wait for database support.

I know we're few but please try to keep up some nodes, at least when you can spare the resources. Currently I am only connected to 5 nodes.

The memory requirements are getting huge, 4600MB now on my (24h) node, so it's not easy to have a node up all day. Most VPS don't have more than 2G/4G and most new desktop computers are still sold with 4G, so that's why we see this node scarcity.

Count 1 node for Moo's pool, 1 for Minergate, 1 for the exchange (bittrex?), Smooth's bootstraping server, yours, mine. And some that may be ocasionally up.
(Obviously those are approximated numbers Smiley )

My node has been down recently, but will be getting back online soon enough!
Would be wonderful if we had an accelerated path to the DB version, though perhaps this is too cutting edge yet?

One advantage of being relatively small, is that we should be able to tolerate a higher risk factor with new and cutting edge features (within reason ofc, I'm not knowledgeable enough to comment on what risk is tolerable vs intolerable).  Roll Eyes

Arux, it appears that your pool may be limiting the difficulty to 20000.  It may be beneficial to turn that off - or dramatically increase it (500k?).  I know one of my Xeon machines can sustain about 200k.

I certainly understand it's not easy to keep up a node 24/7 with those resource requirements. Hell I only keep it up 8-10 hours a day and not every day at that.

Just stating the obvious: every node is appreciated  Grin

I mainly noticed it because I was expecting a transfer today and for over 30 mins I didn't get a new block.

I am SRBOOTH ! I am SRBOOTH ! I am SRBOOTH !

My apologies for this post, I just needed those who know me to know that my Senior BCT account was hijacked back on 9/19/2015, during a breach of my crappy security through a wallet download related to "Tianhe"  see here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1180005.0

This happened to a few other people as well Sad  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1180005.msg12492259#msg12492259

So I now begin again, and am happy to be back participating in Aeon. I sent PM's to few of you with whom I had corresponded with in the past, thank you for your responses.

I do not think I will be able to regain my account due to not having set a btc signature and pgp message, another lesson learned.

Perhaps admin will see some of my posts and realize my situation is legitimate and contact me, that would be nice Wink

I posted here first because all of you here have been the BEST forum I have participated in during the 1 1/2 years I have been here.

Anyhow ..... GO AEON!! Smiley

Welcome back. Sorry to hear about your account. Have you tried sending a message to an admin? Maybe they can check the IP address logs for your account assuming you are still on the same IP.?

Did you try the pruning branch. That should work with 2-3 GB of memory, possibly less.

There are actually quite a few nodes (at least 20 if not more) but most are not set up for incoming connections. If you are behind a firewall or NAT please try to set up port forwarding.

I didn't try to contact them due to the instructions for recovery basically read as don't bother if I can't prove it.

The hijacker hasn't posted anything, just changed my password and email associated with my account.

But I suppose it's worth a try, sending a message that is.

Thanks for the welcome back smooth Smiley

few weeks ago i lowered max difficulty from 100k to 20k because someone had trouble when difficulty spike to 100k (loss of hashrate)
i will look if i  can patch the pool to authorize fixed difficulty on miner client. that way, each miner will be able to choose a difficulty matching to his hashrate (or let the pool manage it)
