The pricing for Batch 4 S3s are terrible! The batch 1 price after discount was 0.694. By the time one would receive a batch 4 S3, a batch 1 will have mined ~0.25 BTC. Do the math people!
They were also almost a pre-order for unproven hardware, so it was a bit of a gamble and should have some benefits. Blame spoon for not being able to deliver the SP30 at spec, now there's no in stock competition in sight for the S3.

No way I'm pre-ordering 3 weeks out. M EDIT: Also, maybe next Bitmain, you'd consider opening a batch at a time when people who work a conventional job could access it? I missed batch 4 by 4-5 hours, and it was sold out.

BA is on the verge of shipping their X3 which is apparently getting somewhere in the neighborhood of .81W/GH. Bobsag from Minersource posted pictures on their thread of the 1/2 unit he received getting about 1.08TH @ 850-890W. And I am by no means advocating for them, I got burned on some X1's. Just putting the information out there. I should also add that BA hasn't dropped the price of the X3, we're talking $5,949.15 or $2.70/GH right now.

I have a piece of them. 300gh worth nothing to speak about. I have 2 s-3's mining. I have 2 s-3's in batch-4 I may order 1 more set of 2 in batch-5. I will decide later today.

Anyone know what Bitmain charges to ship S3's to the US? Need to figure out if it's worth trying to get into a batch or wait for re-sellers to get them.

Shipping is included. I prefer DHL over UPS. You have a choice.
Just put down for two more on batch 5. I bet Bitmain is betting on another few rounds of low difficulty jumps to justify the slight decrease in price between batches. Judging by how much of the network they can control when they batch test, I'm going to bet the price is probably in line with expected network growth.
It all depends on how you calculate your ROI. If you have a bunch of equipment that's already paid for itself, you can choose to calculate that hash towards your most recent purchase and write off the hardware much sooner. Much easier to calculate any gains down the road that way.
...it also might involve a little bit of lying to yourself too, but trust me it's much more fun this way.

Anyone else notice that a S3 seems to let out a beep when a block is found? I've noticed this on a couple of occasions, maybe it's just the pool I'm using.

beeps are startup, beeps at blocks, and beeps at lost connection to a pool (repeatedly). The last item can be turned off via the web menu. Significant others tend to get annoyed at the excessively loud beeps. Search the thread for a nice physical way to mute it somewhat.

It's like the cha-ching of a cash register.

Is there a way to shut down S3 from the web gui or from ssh (not reboot)like "shutdown -h now" command for s2? I tried it before with s1 and it did not work, apparently.

Got my two ant s3's in. Whew happy day today!
Two quick questions for anyone, if you have a sec:
1) What's up with the Wifi options in the networking tab? Is this for potential wifi expansion? Was surprised when I seemed to be able to connect o my wifi network with them, but ya must have 'connected' just through my wired connections. Anyways just want to make sure that there is no wifi right.
2) Does anyone else have trouble connecting to different routers? On this old belkin I have, they connect no problem. On my primary dd-wrt router they have issues. They seem to get an address via dhcp. Then when I go to log into them though, I only get the very first fast 'LAU configuration page' notice or something like that, and then they just always timeout.
I'm still trying to figure them out and why they seem to beep every so often even though they seem to be hashing away okay, but overall, these miners are great.

You need an antenna, but it has wifi built in.

I ssh in and do 'poweroff -d 3' to power off in 3 seconds. Do 'poweroff --help' to get the full syntax as there are other options.

when i did this on S1, pcie connectors produced a spark, which is not good for electronics in general i meant if you already have one blade under power as far as powering one side with one powersupply and other side with a second one-it is possible as long as you orient them correctly

Well batch one here. One runs at 420-425 overclocking makes no difference. The other one i am able to get with 238 freq 440-460. Seems to go down after a few hours. Didn't try 250 freq as I am happy with the 440+ with temps under 40.
