1561  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Canadian Bitcoin Scammer to Face Two Years Jail for $140k Twitter Fraud on: December 24, 2019, 05:26:53 PM
Wow!!! I can't imagine that a 63 year old  woman holds that much of Bitcoin in her Kraken account. Mostly you will see scams only using the name of cryptocurrencies as a type of ponzi investment scheme but you will barely see news about old persons being scammed from exchanges itself. This case is good as closed sinces the brothers already pleaded guilty and the woman recovered most of her money because the accused have returned most of it, they might did this in order to receive a lower punishment for their fraud.

Maybe it was the old's lady's retirement plan or she is just rich and we thought that millennials are the one investing into crypto. But this women proves otherwise. Anyways, I do hope that she really get back the money she deserves and the crooks go behind bars for the crimes they committed to the old lady.

Either way you can't really see this coming from an old person. Usually what you will see in the news is that the older generation we have isn't in favor into these digital assets as for one for their age it will be a steep learning curve for them with the technology involve that's why you will see more younger generation especially the millennials adopting it more. So really I am just surprised that an old lady was a victim of crypto related fraud here. I actually see this as one of the disadvantage of being and old person or a newbie in the market as they get fooled easily by the common scams found in the internet.
1562  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price and Christmas. on: December 23, 2019, 10:08:54 PM
As much as possible do not connect holidays, seasons, and also historical price movements on your analysis for the current price movement of Bitcoin will be. Basically what you are doing is just as good as guessing what the price of Bitcoin will be without actually doing any kind of analysis. I think extasie has proven that what you have seen in the last three years is wrong and Christmas has nothing to do with Bitcoin's dumping. Yeah we ended it bad during December 2017 but it does not mean that this will be a routine cycle for Bitcoin every December. You must also consider other factors such as volume, moving averages, and actual demand before you can even say that Christmas has something to do with it.
1563  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to stay private when using Android (protonmail blog) on: December 23, 2019, 08:39:16 PM
Another thing to add is the carelessness of people when it comes to adding/allowing the installation of 3rd party apps from unknown sources.
Just because an app is from outside the play store doesn't automatically mean it is untrustworthy, and similarly, just because an app is from inside the play store doesn't make it safe.

Google are pretty bad at screening apps before they are published on the play store, and we frequently see apps with either malware hidden in them or apps designed to mimic another (such as a fake wallet app) showing up and being downloaded. There was a user on here a while ago who had their seed stolen because they installed a custom keyboard app from the play store, which recorded everything they typed and sent it back to the scammer who developed it. Similarly, if I'm installing Electrum (for example), and choose to download and install the APK myself from electrum.org, that doesn't automatically mean it's more likely to be malicious.

The better advice is to not install any app unless you absolutely must. Apps which give you sparkly keyboards, or fancy wall papers, or silly mobile games, are completely unncessary. One of the top apps on the Google play store right now is an app that takes a photo of your face and makes you look like an elf. Completely pointless, and every additional app you download and give permission to is an additional security risk.

I'm fully aware of that and even Google's own playstore is bad at screening apps being made available to their own app store. The recent news I know related to the app store is about the xHelper app a malicious program that pops up ads in your device which was previously available in the app store where if the user installs it would find it hard to be uninstalled fully. My point is downloading apk files in the internet where you also don't know the origin is also dangerous on being downloaded in your device, unlike Google's Playstore where you can see reviews from other users who have downloaded it you wouldn't have that convenience on downloading apk files from the internet which in anyone's case would be more riskier since you wouldn't see any kind of feedback for that file.
1564  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Ponzi.wtf, a self admitted ponzi scheme. on: December 23, 2019, 07:07:33 PM

The sad thing about this is even if the scam is self-admitted they still manage to have almost a thousand members in their Telegram channel which only means that they are also openly aware on participating on the fraud and is also trying to scam one another. That's the sad thing about ponzi schemes and HYIP sites some members who are in there are also trying to scam other people and they are trying to recruit more just for the commission they will have from them and of course for the longevity of the scam. This is just a pure evidence that some people even if they aren't part of developing the scam are also scamming other people just for the money they will earn from them.

Another thing to add is the carelessness of people when it comes to adding/allowing the installation of 3rd party apps from unknown sources. This is one of the most easiest way how you introduce your phone to malware since  you are the one allowing your device to install unsafe and unsecure apps found in the internet. Most people do this because they want to instally a paid app for free or install an app that is cracked or with a cheat they don't see the danger when it comes to doing this on their system.

1567  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 🔥 Looking for a serious investor 🔥 First real Bitcoin Skill PvP Game ever! 🔥 on: December 22, 2019, 09:22:42 PM
I did a quick visit on your website and I didn't see any legal gambling license/badge on your website so my question is if your game is legally allowed to have in-game wagering on for its players? Since wagers are involved you should know that this counts as gambling and you should have a license for that in order for you to legally operate, without it you will be in trouble with the authorities. Additionally the website is loading slowly on my end and I can't seem the play the trailer for the game as it doesn't even let the video load in your website.
1568  Other / Meta / Re: Can Merit Sources for Specific Sub-Forum use sMerit outside of that Sub-Forum? on: December 22, 2019, 08:43:13 PM
In addition to what LoyceV said there are no specific type of merit sources here in the forum. Yes we might have merit sources for specific local forums but their sMerits to give are for everyone not only for that specific local board where they use to send sMerits too. The ones who have the biggest merit allocation are not even for the local board yet they still hang out on a lot of local boards just to reward sMerits to good quality posts.
1569  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which game is most fair in Online Casino. on: December 22, 2019, 07:54:25 PM
If you are looking for "fairness" in the game then you probably won't worry about it when it comes to trusted and reputable gambling sites but if you are talking about chances of winning the game then maybe poker isn't really the best game in a casino gambling site to play in since your chances are lower when it comes to card game against other players unlike black jack and baccarat. So either those card games or casino games where you can adjust your chances of winning per bet. You should take note that the payout will either decrease or increase depending on how risky your next bet will be for the game.
1570  Other / Meta / Re: Add to all market boards: "Warning: Moderators do not remove likely scams [...]" on: December 22, 2019, 06:52:40 PM
I don't see any kind of cons by implementing this into the entire marketplace board, even the investor-based games have their own especial warning in their threads.
Quote
Warning: You are in the Gambling section. You are likely to eventually lose any money that you gamble/"invest". Additionally, moderators do not remove likely scams. You must use your own brain: caveat emptor. Do not gamble more than you can afford to lose.

So it will really be nice to see all sections in the marketplace to have this special reminder cause certainly it would help a lot of newbies to be aware of the current scams/ponzis being promoted around the forum .
1571  Economy / Reputation / Re: Stealing signature design on: December 22, 2019, 06:14:07 PM
I've seen this kind of "sig design stealing" before I don't remember who the member was but it was Bitmixer's signature design and from by the looks of it they were using it to mock Bitmixer for something. And I do agree with you that stealing the design of signature campaigns isn't right as they are freely benefiting from the sig designer's work without their permission and can be counted as a copyright violation rather than plagiarism since we are talking about a sig design here not a post from a member, if they have tweaked it in a major way where we wouldn't know their origin then I think I can consider it but with your example above the user only tweaked the letters for their website and it is really not right to do.
1572  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Has this year Christmas favor your cryptocurrency portfolios? on: December 22, 2019, 04:49:09 PM
I couldn't hold it back any longer; as I have sold off my major portfolio because of Christmas celebration. This hold started from last year July, 2018 and now, couldn't hold them again as I have sell off my assets because of the pressure from the family members. After the sale of this asset this evening, I was perplexed as how much I just dumped, all in the name of Christmas.

What are your experience: positive or negative.

By the looks of it you really don't have any choice left but to sell majority of your portfolio because of the family pressure you are having and maybe because you also need to money when you liquidate your crypto assets. You may have lose a good opportunity to take more profits when its time for a bull run but you really don't have any choice but to sell them and that is understandable and you can't really do anything about it. The thing is if you have the money now to join the crypto market you are always welcome by the market to return and just make sure at this point you have some extra cash lying around in your savings for you to use in these types of situation where your family needs some extra cash.
1573  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Are there any trading chat rooms? on: December 22, 2019, 03:34:35 PM
If you are looking for a good place to have a conversation with you won't see it in telegrams groups even if they are especially dedicated to trading talks since all of the channels I have joined only promotes other channels related to "premium" trading signals and the ones who try to create conversation in those channels won't have any good replies for them. So it's really better if you hang out in here since this forum has more to offer compared to the content you will see in these Telegram channels.
1574  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bakkt’s Cash Settled Bitcoin Futures on 7 Day Volume Pump on: December 19, 2019, 09:54:32 PM
Definitely a positive news for Bitcoin but certainly hype surrounding BAKKT is over thus is not making it affect the prices for Bitcoin anymore. This is what happens when we over expect a positive news to be something bigger yet when it has launched officially nothing has happened with the price since no one is following on it anymore. I believe that it would take a even bigger news for BAKKT for it to finally do something with Bitcoin's price on the regular market and also together with a bullish chart to make it more effective.
1575  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Social media promotion on: December 19, 2019, 08:38:19 PM
Telegram will be a dead end for you. I could only imagine a "promotion" channel from telegram will just be all people looking for free promotions for themselves as well so you literally won't have the result you are looking for. So if you are still willing to go on this free route I think the best thing for you to get exposure is to promote or market your product/service in social media websites where you can get a lot of people, share your posts on related groups for your product and find you will see a lot of people if they are interested or not.
1576  Economy / Economics / Re: 2020 Good for USA dollar Bad for USA stock market on: December 19, 2019, 07:50:52 PM
I thought I have seen this post on an earlier date and I was wrong. It turns out you changed your prediction just about two months in after that.

One of my favorite topics are world markets and Economy i do my own research about this and i have opinion about this subject:

This is what i think what is current situation and future for countries and people!

2019
Canada: i see Canada dollar will be stronger.  2019 is strong year for Canada dollar.
Canada stock market will be down.

United Kingdom :
Economy big slow down 2019

USA :  market is good stock market is good.
USA dollar  remain not strong not weak Medium.

Europe: Eur currency will be weaker, Eu Economy will be better and Economy will go up everyday.

So with just two months after you predict that US stock market will be good and good for their fiat currency you suddenly reverse what you are saying thus trusting you as an analyst isn't really the right thing to do. You don't even provide us the full detail of what you are trying to say and you can't even get a hold of it. I know the quoted post was about 2019 but still your prediction for it is wrong and what I can see is it is just like a normal day for both the US and Canada.
1577  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to prevent from scams on: December 19, 2019, 07:11:09 PM
~snip~

I get it, not those shady ones but a truly legit faucet site for instance, Coinpot. It previously didn't use HTTPS until recently so I wondered whether the data would still be secured if I were to force the usage of HTTPS.

The point of the OP is about scams so like what I have said and others are saying no matter if the website has SSL and can cover up your data as long as the website is a scam they still end up getting your money if you are fooled with these SSL certifications. You might be protecting your password and other data with HTTPS but it doesn't stop the scam itself from happening. Bottom line is if the website has SSL and you think they are scam you still really don't want to trust them even on that occasion.
1578  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-12-18] Two more bitcoin firms shutdown over impending EU money-laundering on: December 19, 2019, 05:51:17 PM
I haven't heard any of the major exchanges, or anywhere really, mention this. Presumably that means they've taken it in their stride? If it's that onerous and that soon I expect to have heard a great deal more about it than I have.

By my understanding of the news some of their big exchanges have either complied to the KYC requirements a long time ago or isn't affected with what they are asking. The only ones who are seriously affected are these services who promote anonymity in their services and they still have the option to comply but they feel like anonymity is more important rather than the survival of their service. So really the ones closing are hard headed people who still think that being identified by the givernment in the crypto market is bad.
1579  Economy / Speculation / Re: Two Years Ago, Bitcoin Was Over $19,000 — What Happened? on: December 19, 2019, 11:37:56 AM
Bitcoin ATH way back 2017 wasn't supposed to happen like that, I expected it to stop at around 13,000$ but then FOMO that time was really strong that it pushed it at around those price levels. With big price jumps like that at a short period the bigger the marke confidence will decrease and adding more fuel to that fire is profit takers rushing in to jump out of the market thus resulting to where we are now. Also I don't have the same sentiments about you that the ATH cannot be beaten ir at least be repeated we may never know but with the incrsasing demand for crypto I know we will have a more stable price increase for it.
1580  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to prevent from scams on: December 19, 2019, 09:07:45 AM
For point #1, can this be avoided by forcing HTTPS (thru plugin) assuming the site's legit?

Don't even bother looking at the SSL certificate as this is not really a good way to point out if the website is a scam or not because some scams now already have this certification which for newbies makes them more trustful. I still recommend for you to follow what the OP is telling since it is on point and you really need to see the website entirely and what they are offering to know if they are offering is a scam or not. Other than that you should look for what other people are saying to it online, if they don't have any feedback for their website then that's a good indicator to back off as well.
