2044  Other / Meta / Museum of Bitcoin, Bitcointalk avatars [Community-led] on: July 19, 2022, 05:09:00 AM
Why I started this one?

Since my mostly 5 years on forum, I know of some free contributions from our community, for forum avatar, signature and other things related to Bitcoin, security.
Recently, Pmalek started a questionable topic: Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement

Pmalek has some similar and different objectives than what I did in the past as well as in this topic.

In this topic
  • I collect arts from community for everyone to use it. No advertisement here in either Free or Paid mode.
  • If anyone has your free arts, please share here. I much appreciate it.

Two categories might be more in future
  • Avatar
  • Signature

I kind of like to have similar avatars but without that website link but it is what I can get from their past campaign.

2045  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: The right time to invest on: July 19, 2022, 02:18:58 AM
As a newbie one finds it difficult to know the right time to invest.
We have to consider many things before making a decision. Not only investment decision no matter what how young or how old we are. It is never easy to make a decision.

Quote
I really want to know if I can actually invest into Bitcoin at this moment.
I can not answer it for you, because that decision will be affected by two many factors
  • Your personal condition
    • You must have own reasons why you want to invest in Bitcoin. If you have a wrong stand point, you are not investing, and only speculating with hope that your speculation will bring profit in the end. Then when you witness a crash, a temporary loss, you will be panic and cut loss.
    • Your plan for financial things in your life and whether the budget you want to spend for investment will affect your financial life, in case it ends as a loss
  • The market condition: technically, in view of long term investors, it is very good time to invest
2046  Economy / Speculation / Re: MtGox finally going to distribute 137,000 BTC sometime next month on: July 19, 2022, 01:57:37 AM
So, 8 years, two-thirds of Bitcoin's age, is what it takes to get a part of your coins back from a centralized exchange.
Think about that when you don't keep your coins in a wallet under your own control!
"Not your keys, not your coins". This statement is very popular but hearing about it and practicing it are different. Many educational resources about it but people mainly read and forget. They don't turn reading from practicing until losing money because lack of key ownership.

2047  Other / Meta / Re: Forum advertising space for free signature/avatar advertisement on: July 19, 2022, 01:45:54 AM
1. We create a thread (I can do that) with a simple question asking forum members if they are willing to advertise Bitcoin projects for free? The thread would point to this discussion. Users can then make themselves available and mention if they want to offer their signature space, avatars, and/or personal text for this purpose.
There are people here that aren't part of paid signature campaigns and some who are but don't need their avatars and/or text field.
You can create yours with very special objectives as you said or you can bring them to my topic

In general, I think a community-led thread is good enough. Moderators will not have time to moderate, edit and update info if forum has a child board and a thread for it.
2048  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source observations on: July 19, 2022, 01:29:13 AM
I think I should write something about the objectives of this thread and the current discussion

  • Objectives: mainly to observe merit source in terms of statistics -- total merit sources, total smerit allocation each month, their changes over time. That's it
  • Discussion can be on merit sources and their merit distribution activities but please don't go too far with it. It will derail the topic and its main objectives.
  • For discussion or suggestion to improve merit system, difficulty for newbies to rank up, please discuss in Merit & new rank requirements

2051  Economy / Speculation / Is Bitcoin bottom there yet? Fear & Greed, Pi Cycle Top / Bottom on: July 18, 2022, 01:37:34 PM
The crypto market is volatile and we have been witnessing the worst lost streak in history of Bitcoin with so many continuous red weekly candles.

Does Bitcoin in a bottom range yet?

Let's check with Fear & Greed index; Pi Cycle Top and Pi Cycle Bottom a derivative of Pi Cycle Top

Fear & Greed Index
The market has went through an extremely panic period. Market can not be bullish without bearish time.

Pi Cycle Top
The cross between 111 DMA and 350 DMAx2 mark a top of bull market. It is true in 2013, 2017 and 2021 bull markets.

Pi Cycle Bottom
It is a combination of EMA 150 and SMA 471. The cross of these two in the past bear cycles in 2015 and 2019 mark the nearest endings of bear market.

Temporarily, we are witnessing another cross and it's a good signal. I don't make a call that bottom is in because another massive crash (black swan) like what happened in March 2020 might happen again. We can not exclude it completely. Anyway, combine them all, it seems we are going to a bottom area and in accumulation phase for a new bull market.

2052  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Overview] Bitcointalk Services from Bitcointalk Members on: July 18, 2022, 12:31:57 PM
Yeah, a refresher list but all in one.
Yeah, I'm trying to combine some threads into this one. It's first objective. Another objective is keep it updating. A few threads in reference is inactive and OPs likely left the forum.

Quote
I can only say is, accounts that has negative reviews especially those who are unlawfully labeled here as a scammer or encourage scams should not be in the list.

Because to me, it sounds like you are still suggesting to use their service even though they were labeled as scammers in any way.
OPs of services that have issues will have a * but that's it. If there is just discussions and unclear, not finalized yet, I will not remove their services from the list.

I would like to add my website sponsored content to that list of yours.

Welcome. I know your site (bitcoindata.science) and we had some discussions in the past but I have yet know you started to open it for advertisement. Anyway, great works!

If you don't mind, could you please add my thread to the "Avatar for rent" section: bullrun2020bro Forum Space For Rent [Signature + Avatar + Text + Website]
Welcome. I missed your avatar, etc. for rent  Cheesy

I've just realized that a specific market, such as software development services like those provided by mprep, is missing. He typically bumps it every day.
I know mprep started to bump his service since one year ago, perhaps.

Quote
In addition, can I request if you could change the link to my new service thread when it is published because I plan to redesign it and change the prices. Thank you so much!! Cheesy
I know you have multiple service threads but please give me a link what is a service you want to add here.  Smiley

If you see any interesting Free service (should be from trusted members or from quality team), please ping me. This thread has space for it.

Visualize this impossible mission to brute force it. If you create your wallet properly, follow security basics and are not curious to try new cool wallet software, your wallet is safe as well as your Bitcoin.

Like this "Bitcoin - your money is secured by the laws of the universe"

2056  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to sign a message with segwit address? on: July 18, 2022, 05:50:41 AM
It is possible, but segwit signatures have not been standardized, so they will be different for each wallet.
2057  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to sign a message with segwit address? on: July 18, 2022, 05:23:46 AM
I see the simple way is to transfer 1 sat from my address and the other way is to sign a message.
You use your key to sign a message but you don't have to spend any sat, make any on-chain transaction to sign a Bitcoin message.

Quote
The first question: is this possible in bitcoin core?
Yes. Not only with Bitcoin Core but also with other non-custodial wallets.

Quote
I want a way to verify the ownership of my address by signing a message with its private key / wallet password.
You misunderstood it. You sign, others will verify it and confirm your ownership.

Of course, you can try to sign a message and verify it too.

Quote
He might agree to send few Satoshis for me but might not sign a message for me. (so, signing message using bitcoin core would be the best choice, if that is possible)
Your friend can only sign a message if you share your keys to him. It is risky because you will no longer the only ownership of that wallet. You and your friend co-own that wallet.
2058  Economy / Services / Re: [Design Corporation] Graphic Design Service on: July 17, 2022, 04:21:18 PM
I gave you one merit that will be enough for you to rank up to Jr. member and be able to post images.

However, I reported lot of your posts with a reason "Old bump".

Maybe you don't know much about rule, let me share.
13. Bumps, "updates" are limited to once per 24 hours per thread. Bumping multiple threads at the same time is allowed if it's not annoying. [2][e]

21. Old bumps should be deleted. [2]
2059  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Countries have banned Bitcoin; Do you believe is because of criminal activities on: July 17, 2022, 03:56:06 PM
Most countries are giving excuses and  reason for banning Bitcoin is because it can easily be used to fund crimes.
Everything on Earth can be used for criminal activities. There is black and white story and there are people who stay in different sides.

Do the world ban Internet because bad people use to to sell addictive drugs, terrorist and other bad things? They can not ban Internet because it is a necessary part of human civilization. They can try to censor contents on Internet, stricter regulations etc but no completely ban.

Quote
But I think they are afraid of losing control of their citizens' financial activities because they believe being the ones regulating financial activities makes them powerful.
They want to protect their centralized and inflationary finance systems. They will try to make more regulations to control and reduce the power of Bitcoin and decentralized finance but they can not ban such hazard things entirely. By hazard I meant, in view of governments, not citizens.

Isn't it better that people nowadays can rank up easier than years ago? From my understanding, point of merit system is to prevent shitposters and spammer from ranking up and not to make it a struggle for decent members to rank up like it was at the beginning (at least that's what you said).
Misunderstood perhaps.

I meant good posters deserve to rank up. Fast or slow, it depends on their contributions but if they don't actually make excellent contents, merit they received should be equal to their contribution quality.

It is like you make a charity to build up your reputation but if you shows it publicly, your reputation will increase faster but it does not actually make your reputation is better than others who do charity silently. In short term, make noise will increase it a bit but in long term, it is the same.

You never can verify what they actually do from their initiative announcement but you can verify their post quality.

Merit sources are more than they were few years ago. sMerits have increased. It's natural, therefore, to reward more generously.
It is part of the merit system issue. theymos watches it carefully and rarely to make significant changes in merit source number and merit source allocation. Over inflation of merit source and merit source allocation can create a new generation of pseudo-quality members who will turn to likely spammers after ranking up.
