2161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can BTC with TARO turn it into a Smart Contract Platform? on: July 03, 2022, 07:56:45 AM
The podcast I was listening I think was discussing about this taproot update which this could turn Bitcoin a sort of a competitor of ETH like a smart contract platform.
Taproot does not result in integration of smart contract on Bitcoin network. It does not create anything similar to smart contract. It is what people hope and speculate but the main benefits of Taproot are:
  • Improve scalability
  • Higher capacity to handle transactions: higher TPS
  • Reduce transaction fee
  • Fungibility
  • Script innovation

We have been enjoying cheaper fee rates on Bitcoin network after the wider adoption of Segwit, and in latest months Taproot.

2163  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Beware]New scammer scheme using exchange on: July 02, 2022, 01:58:06 PM
Recently some random guy message me on telegram and ask me to help him withdraw his balance to avoid tax. He is claiming that the exchange ask him to do KYC and he is not comfortable with that. Then he showed me his balance as proof.
It is not a new scam scheme. It is an old one.

Let me reveal that years ago, many scammers did it already. They contacted me and told me that they got issues with accounts and want to get help to make a transaction like 0.1 BTC, then I will get reward from it (maybe 0.05 BTC or 0.1 BTC). I don't remember exact deals I were offered but it is something like that.

Offer details can be different but this scam scheme is the same and not new.

Very basic rule, if a stranger contacts you first, gives you any deal relates with money, it's scam.
2164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins have intrinsic monetary value, don't they? on: July 02, 2022, 01:36:25 PM
Don't do Binance good. Here's some better source: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Controlled_supply
Bitcoin Wiki should be one of first resources we should look at when we're finding something about Bitcoin.

I know a very helpful article from Jameson Lopp.
  • How is the 21 Million Bitcoin Cap Defined and Enforced?
  • Interesting fact is many points in that article was discussed on the forum months or years ago. I don't say Jameson stole ideas of forum members as fact is fact but it proves that the forum has many knowledgeable members

2166  Other / Meta / Re: What about Bitcointalk APP for Both Smartphone and Desktop Platform on: July 01, 2022, 04:05:17 PM
But My motive was that what we have today if we stick on it and nver put Efforts to evolve them we die sooner.
My preference is typing on computer, not on mobile. So mobile application is not in my need-list. Even forum has a mobile app, I am sure I will not install and use it if it is not mandatory like Reddit app (which I believe theymos will not require forum users to do). And you know, I don't use Reddit app now and in future.

Bitcoin will not die, the forum will not die. Believe me. Both Bitcoin and Bitcointalk forum are legendary assets and have very loyal communities behind.
2167  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Strong Hands Are Buying on: July 01, 2022, 04:01:26 PM
You can follow up investments from strong hands with Bitcoin Treasuries. No matter what you see, you should not rely on their investment for your own one.

A live chart for Bitcoin wallet sizes: > 1,000 BTC is helpful too.

Buying from strong hands is not enough because in the market, we always have exchange between seller and buyer. In order to get a bottom, miner capitulation and retail investors, weak institutional investors should capitulate too.
2168  Other / Meta / Re: What about Bitcointalk APP for Both Smartphone and Desktop Platform on: July 01, 2022, 03:45:35 PM
Applications are more preffered then Website platforms in Regular Utility.
You must start with basics of this forum
  • What is it for? Discussion, idea exchange, etc.
  • What is main type of discussions? Text-based
Now, let's think, do you think typing text on mobile is easier and more convenient than on computer or laptop. My preference is the latter one, not mobile devices.

In addition, I don't want to install too many apps on my device.

With this forum software, there are solutions (but I don't like them) to have mobile compatible version
  • Adding either ;wap; wap2 ;imode at the end of URL link
  • It works for text, not for table

Example:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404781.0;wap
or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404781.0;wap2
or https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5404781.0;imode

Everything has drawbacks apps can contain bugs but that can be improved i know that idea will be already experienced as platform running from time but i think Application should be considered.
Everything is built by coding can have bugs, not only mobile applications.
2169  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How certain are you that cryptocurrency will experience more parabolic bull runs on: July 01, 2022, 03:06:32 PM
Your question is too broad as it refers to cryptocurrency. There are thousands of cryptocurrency and not all of them will be able to survive after a bear market. Dead projects will not have a new parabolic curve. Only good and strong projects will recover from bear market, reclaim its all time high and start a new parabola ride to make new all time high.

Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB will have new parabolic curves in 2024 or 2025. Other coins, I don't know.
2170  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bottom? on: July 01, 2022, 03:03:24 PM
Now that Michael Saylor and El Salvador have purchased BTC at $19,000, we can be certain that the bottom is nowhere near
Don't try to find a bottom. When you have believe in Bitcoin and see a price falls 70% or 80% from its latest all time high, you can consider to accumulate it.

The market now is like the one in 2018. You don't know how long will the bear market last and you can not know where is a final bottom. When a new bull run starts and tops up like reaching to $60,000 in 2021 then it does not matter you buy Bitcoin at $6,000 or $9,000 or $13,000 months or years ago.

Now, it is the same situation, bottom can be $17,600 or $12,000 or $10,000 but is it matter if a new all time high in 2024 or 2025 will be $100,000 or $150,000 for one Bitcoin.
2171  Other / Off-topic / Re: Password managers or passwords from memory on: July 01, 2022, 01:37:45 PM
We should admit that password nowadays can be crack no matter how hard it was using brute force software so  choosing the best password is least of my concern
If you set up a long, strong and unique password, it's very hard to brute force it if you don't leak any part of it.

using secondary security such as sms verification and 2fa to enhance my security to maximum level that hackers can’t penetrate unless he has access to my phone. But all this hack event is only possible if you share your login details or you download malicious software that will give the hacker your login details.
You can use Yubikey as one of secondary protection.

Some people store 2FA and account password on the same device. It is not a good practice as it violates a basic that 2FA should be on different device and you should not store all eggs in a single basket.

If you login your email, your exchange account and install its 2FA on a same device, what will happen if you lose that device? 2FA can not protect you in this case if exchange does not detect suspicious things and ask for additional KYC before approving withdrawal request from that device.
2172  Other / Off-topic / Re: Password managers or passwords from memory on: June 30, 2022, 12:43:55 PM
You can use any mean to store your password, passphrase, mnemonic seed, private key but it should not be memory and should not be online. You can use either password manager, paper, metal sheet and more but it must be offline one and not be your memory. Your memory can be lost when you are ageing or get an accident. Online places are dangerous because you will be exposed with more risk.

Some people store their password in Gmail, in their social media account like Facebook, in Telegram, in cloud storage service. All of these are very bad practically.

2173  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin ETF. All questions answered. Why, when and who will get ETF approved? on: June 30, 2022, 12:39:10 PM
Bitcoin ETF is a tool to make Bitcoin becomes more attractive in non-crypto guys. However, I don't see the point why they don't like Bitcoin and still want to buy it via Bitcoin ETFs. It is like when you hesitate to create your Bitcoin wallet, buy and move it to your wallet but you create an account on third-party platform, and buy Wrapped BTC that is not real Bitcoin.

Bitcoin ETF is another way to make noise but it does not affect Bitcoin network and on-chain transactions so much. In fact, if there are more demands, there would be more transactions and the network will have more waiting transactions in mempool. In future, with Segwit, Taproot, Lightning network adoption and more upgrades, Bitcoin network will have better capacity to handle transactions.

Bitcoin ETF Race from Arcane research.
2174  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: DCA? on: June 30, 2022, 12:31:36 PM
If you leverage or trade options or even daytrade on the spot market then DCA is pointless as you just risk it all anyway.
DCA is a specific strategy for investment, long term one. With long term investment, basic rule is invest with your own money. If you borrow money to buy something and call it as investment, you are wrong, it is speculation. Because it is for long term strategy, it does not match day trading.

Leverage? If you use leverage, you are speculating or gambling, not investing. In addition, a worse part if you DCA with leverage is you will lose you initial capital and the additional capital you use for DCA. In bad case, you will lose double or tripple of your initial capital because you DCA multiple times. Using leverage to DCA more, you will have higher risk and if liquidation comes, you lose more than what you should lose if you don't DCA with leverage.
2175  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: DCA? on: June 30, 2022, 08:03:39 AM
Tools for Dollar Cost Averaging (DCA)
DCA with your own money and with your investment taste (long term perspective) and afford your lose at beginning.

Have your plan and last resort in case your investment fails. It means you should never use all of your capital to invest into anything and you should have a sort of capital part for expenses, just in case your investment falls to 0.
2176  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do I completely, and I do mean completely hide my tracks on the internet? on: June 30, 2022, 01:33:22 AM
Nothing is perfect 100%.

You can not achieve 100% privacy, anonymity with the Internet, Tor connections, crypto transactions and mixers. What we do believe is perfect nowadays will become outdated and compromised (with its weakness) in future.

It is like hackers find security holes, bugs and exploit it. There are always black holes, bugs, weakness in any tool we are using.

Tor is the best for now and you can use it on mobile too.
2177  Other / Meta / Re: Do you read unmerited replies? on: June 30, 2022, 01:07:47 AM
I don't know about you guys but these days i found myself ignoring unmerited responses in a topic and tend to only read the merited ones because they're "usually" more relevant to the topic and contain more valuable informations, and in big topics with multiple pages it gets difficult to sort them out.
Usually, not always. Not all merited posts are high quality. Sometimes people dump 20, 30, 50 merits on a single post even it does not deserve it. It is common with merit sources when they see that poster has good quality and contribution in general, but the source does not have time to check post history of the poster and an easy solution is pick one of them, and make a huge merit dump.

In another case, it falls to merit abuse. So sorting merited posts in a single thread, and displaying it according to orders does not make sense. First, not make sense about quality of post. Second, not makes sense about flow of discussions. It's awkward when you read a discussion and can not follow its flow of idea, discussion from beginning to ending.

Quote
I don't know if this was suggested before (sorry for repeating if it was) but wouldn't it be better if the replies with the most merites be shown at the top (instead of the most recent ones) and so on kinda like a reddit upvote system,or at least to add a sorting option to switch between these two display modes (by time of posting or merites recieved).
You can suggested it for a new forum software, Epochtalk.
2178  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How merits spread started? on: June 30, 2022, 12:57:00 AM
NeuroticFish already explain very well about the merit system was begin.
For merit system history, how it began, how it adjusted, etc. Please read my topic
Merit system was created after a few months of discussions on how to handle spam epidemic on the forum as consequence of bull run 2017 and ICOs. First, we have Serious discussions and Ivory tower boards; then the merit system kicks off a little bit later.
2179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "I'll wait for the dip!" - The Crypto Noob Cycle on: June 29, 2022, 03:56:12 AM
What they said, what they hoped and what they response to when chance comes are differently.

So they hope to see lower price again when Bitcoin is in bull run. When bear market comes and gives them discount price, they are fearful that Bitcoin will fall to zero or to much lower price. They reject to take opportunity and when next bull run comes, they hope again. Then if dips come, bear market comes again, they will reject it again.  Undecided

2180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best time of the day to buy Bitcoin on: June 29, 2022, 03:30:18 AM
There are correlations between timezone, most actively trading time and best time to have cheapest transaction fee. I think it will be reflected on price too and there is correlation between price fluctuation and timezone. However, there is no such best time of days to buy Bitcoin. If the market has no serious crash, price is not much significantly different within 24 hours of a day.

Some charts for transaction fees as well as most actively and least actively trading hours.

Best time of days, it depends on each person. If you are looking for time when you buy Bitcoin with least risk of crash after that, you will try to find hours with most boring trading activities, with very little fluctuation of price.

If you are looking at crash to buy dip and enjoy bounce, it is a different approach and you will look at different hours (most actively trading hours as crashes will cause panic, huge liquidations, huge trading volume, etc.)
