i sent you a pm Otoh but the previous post has a good answer how to spend bitcoins from armory wallet? or personal bitcoin wallet?

PM answered, yep spending Bitcoins from any wallet an easy way is just to enter the private keys in Mt. Gox if you wished to sell at spot & cash out in $ for any amount, I missed covering Bitcoinica in your OP - personally I would never park money there, if you are gambling on the site you will know your own risk tolerance, but I believe that there is a strong possibility given their MO that they could well go TU if the Bitcoin price were to quickly double or triple - which I also believe is bound to happen one day or at least isn't something that I'd like to bet against
2704  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to keep your bitcoins?? bitcoin wallet or mtgox bitcoinica etc on: April 30, 2012, 09:36:39 PM
wow... thanks Otoh that's very helpful will start with the top  Grin

cool, any further details needed just ask, the blockchain.info wallet may not be working 100% for a couple of days but once they sort out their glitch they are the best, back the wallet up encrypted by email
2705  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where to keep your bitcoins?? bitcoin wallet or mtgox bitcoinica etc on: April 30, 2012, 09:16:31 PM
so the best solution for incoming outgoing bitcoins and also secure is Armory?  i wanted to opt for the bitcoin client platform but will give it a go to Armory as well

for day to day petty cash, say < 400 BTC then blockchain.info wallet (they have some issues just the last couple of days but are good)
for say < 5,000 BTC Mt. Gox with a Yubi key & PW from lastpass, also with a Yubi key & dedicated reset email addresses from gmail with 2FA
for > 5,000 BTC then Armory wallet on a dedicated offline laptop with USB flash drive & paper wallet backups in different locations & with deathswitchs

for 100 - 2,000 BTC + consider lending some out to Pirate or one of his feeders (I can do this if you wished), top rate paying 7% per week interest

I've moved 5 figure amounts to Gox via Dwolla but they can be a bit skittish & need a bunch of KYC, for large amounts just wire to the exchanges, I use http://www.xe.com/xetrade quick, cheap, efficient & easy - charge less than banks 1.4% over mid-market rates for currency conversions, most types of transfers are free & all arranged & executed fast online, assuming that you have Internet banking with your bank then that's all you need
2706  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain.info Wallet - was working fine & now it isn't any more on: April 30, 2012, 03:14:07 PM
thanks for the tips, it's really not working though today & I've tried everything - I've wasted hours as I assumed it must be my computer misbehaving - I see there's another thread on this in tech support so I'll follow that

yep, I've been having problems with it the last few days & today can't get connected live to see tx etc though it shows my account

@Otoh - So spent sometime with Block Explorer (BE), best I can figure, is that when I send out coin to someones address, a counterparty address is generated for me on that transaction, this is the address I mentioned in the ETA (Edit to ADD) text of my previous post.

Soooo... what you were asking all of us Newbie's for orignally, after contributing to ILC's address, was view BlockExplorer on it, provide you with that address on us, so you can then match our avatar to that address and know only one contributor to one forum member id...

Does that sound about right?

Not sure if I'm getting a 'A' or 'F' on this test, perhaps 'E' for effort, as yet no one else seems to have stepped up to the plate & offered to join the party.  This really is a wonderful offer you've given us to make a little coin & have an opportunity to learn allot!

Come on in Newbies, we need 9 more!

Thanks Otoh for putting this on!

GR

Hi GR - I'm very glad that you appreciate it, I was about to cancel the offer due to the lack of interest, it seemed to me peeps would just stick their hand out for some free tiny Satoshies but wouldn't bother to make any small effort to gain some & learn about how Bitcoins work in the process even when offered many times more, as for just how the BE & wallets work I'm not an expert on that so it's a learning process for me too, I'll let someone else explain if they'd like to or maybe you've worked it out already - I'll look in to it too but I don't even use the Bitcoin client wallet atm, I use blockchain.info wallet which I'd highly recommend & there your sending & receiving address are the same & show up in BE

Anyway while there's still some confusion about how it works then it's best to do as you did & post here the amount you've sent along with your address to receive the 0.1 BTC, which I'm sending you now to 1AhWgEPJx2rCoUcgeLGQhQbnA7wjiuTfNs & good luck for the 1 BTC prize, your score is 0.023 * 10 = 0.23

BTW - I'd also sent 0.05 BTC to most all the newbies who asked here over the last couple of days, but am stopping doing this now due to the reasons in my first para above

Thanks again GR! A+ for you  Smiley

If there are no other entries in the next 24 hrs then I'll cancel the game & split the prizes between you & ILC

edit: the blockchain.info wallet is having some issues atm, see other threads, I'll send the 0.1 BTC once they sort this out
2709  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitLotto raffle is 1 yr! May 2 a record breaker! Now over *320 BTC or 1,600 USD* on: April 29, 2012, 08:35:16 PM
I agree with DA & also pledge to donate 3% of any winnings to bitlotto for site development etc, if we could get this established as a voluntary but accepted good community practice here then maybe we'll help fund it without harming it's powerful 99% edge
2710  Economy / Gambling / Re: [RAFFLE] Butterfly Labs Bitforce Single ~$600 - 6 days left! on: April 29, 2012, 08:03:46 PM
is there a live site where we can see how many tickets have been sold?

411 tickets have now been sold. I'll try to update once a day or more if you need.

Congrats, that's good going in 1 day or so, say with an average 10% discount on ticket sales price then that's about 92 BTC or $454 atm pulled in so far & the forum now showing adverts for it too I see, you should cover the Single's plus ad's costs in no time at this rate

as no one has started yet I've edited my post above to tweak the 1 BTC bonus part so as to advantage those who participate earliest - note that the first 2 tx on the BE were prior gifts to ILC & so are not part of the competition though these senders are welcome to send a little more & so join in if they wish

If you could spare a few for me, that would be great, I'm below the 1 Bitcoin level, and I'm just getting started.

sent 0.02 BTC , enjoy  Cool

Thank you so much Smiley

I have a couple of Bitcoins to give away, so here's how I'll do it, I've picked the random recent newbie ILoveComputers for any of you to send any token amount of coins to, like say 0.005 BTC but any amount is fine, then for the first 10 tx to show up in BE I will send 0.1 BTC each to the addresses that sent a donation in (one per tx - if sent from multiple addresses I'll just use the top one)

As a bonus I will send 1 BTC extra to whichever address gets the highest number when one multiplies the amount of their donation by the inverse of their entry number (so if the first person sends 0.05 BTC that's 0.05 * 10 = 0.5 & if the 10th person sent 0.3 BTC then that's 0.3 * 1 = 0.3)

http://blockexplorer.com/address/17Fa1nP7yTBtBjHdzrMP2Lz6Fiv8LygGPj

You also need to post here your sending/receiving address as it's one tx per forum ID, open to everyone who has a forum ID registered before this post, if it overshoots 10 donations then you've just made an extra free gift to ILoveComputers  Smiley
2714  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [CLOSED] 50Gh 1 week mining contract worth ~230 BTC on: April 28, 2012, 06:19:47 PM
"what would you do with your winnings"

another bonus for the winner in taking an instant BTC cash prize option instead of mining for a week is that it gave him the potential to sell those 300 odd coins (haven't checked prob 220 - 250 but same principle) @ > $5.10 then short 10:1 on Btca with the $ equivalent of 3,000 coins margin, buying back in today < $4.9 for a clear $600 profit on the short, so now holding $2,130 or 435 coins, one third more in just 1 day after the spreads say, so that even BTC bears may want to play
2715  Economy / Gambling / Re: [RAFFLE] Butterfly Labs Bitforce Single ~$600 - 7 days left! on: April 28, 2012, 11:36:18 AM
subbed & waiting until the 4th of May to decide re how many tickets to purchase
2716  Economy / Marketplace / Re: [CLOSED] 50Gh 1 week mining contract worth ~230 BTC on: April 28, 2012, 10:36:36 AM
I think we should also give a prize for the highest hash.
Just as impressive (or likely) as the lowest one:
fffbfd600aa2d0e0eb2ee5439a91865cceb96b3505a235c57d24a3b945ff9b4f
Ticket holder 402 a preliminary congrats (no prize though)!  Grin

'tis a good point. I'll kick giga a BTC to pay the highest hash. Smiley

Well this is an excellent idea, it is no easy thing to get the furthest possible hash from the winning one, though it doesn't in the least surprise me that it was one of my tickets (from 369 to 413) that scooped the booby prize, thanks to the OPs for a fun game & whilst not the best in town I still enjoyed it.

Congrats to cncguru, Bravo!  Smiley

Edit: & re offering a BTC cash alternative prize option after the draw, I don't have any problem with this - if it's what the winner wishes to choose then that's an extra benefit to him & if someone else had won it & choose to go with the mining contract then the OPs would honer that & help set it up for them if needed so np, same for any future BTC cash equivalents - they're a bonus that's all
2717  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANNOUNCE GLBSE] 2000 PPT.B Pirate Pass Through Bonds To Be Sold this week on: April 27, 2012, 08:08:33 PM
I agree, 3 AM CET is not really "funny" just to earn something like a handful of Euros in most cases...

I think that it's 4am CET close atm (which I'm on) & @Burt thanks for looking in to a possible move

edit: you're right it's 3am as we're on CEST atm apparently http://www.timeanddate.com/library/abbreviations/timezones/eu/cet.html

edit edit: nope, I'm still confused, if it closes at 2am UTC, seems to be in just under 6 hours time, which for Spain makes 4am  Huh whatever I hate to try sniping drunk - which I would be if I stayed up until then

2718  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANNOUNCE GLBSE] 2000 PPT.B Pirate Pass Through Bonds To Be Sold this week on: April 27, 2012, 06:38:38 PM
how about moving the end time forward 3 or better still 4 hours in the future to make it more Europe friendly, it would still work OK for the States &/or put it on a Sunday or something if it clashes with US work hours, say finish UTC @ 10pm Fri = 6pm Fri NY, 3pm LA & 11pm Fri UK, Midnight Fri CET
2719  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Win a 50Gh 1 week mining contract worth ~230 BTC - 4 days left! on: April 27, 2012, 03:34:27 PM
This is awesome! Thanks for giving us newbs something to shoot for!

I hope I can get my hands on 0.5 BTC before it ends! Smiley

Anyone who feels like donating to my raffle fund can drop a few millibits into 1NNZZyispBmiQECYX2FRBDjAaRoyswaDxs.

Thanks for the cool raffle, but if I win I'm gonna need some help setting up for max return. I've been reading a lot, but all I've been able to play with is some useless cpu mining because my graphics chip is too old to be useful. But I've got a bit of cash to invest and I'm looking at the more affordable FPGA products out there.

Thanks again!

-Mo

Hiya Mo, many thanks for the 1 BTC gift that's most kind of you, doubled my money in 3 days  Grin

It's all back to normal now phew! Opened it in another Window & it was fine, sorry for the panic - the tab it was open in before went weird or something when I re-booted the comp I suppose, would just happen to be when the only time I was moving a lot of funds through it
