Anyone have luck with their reseller?
They cancelled my order but haven't refunded the order yet.
Plus they are sold out now.
So now two Canaan companies have taken orders and not delive 10red twice in a month.
Sadly after that I did have to take my business elsewhere, if Canaan sorts things out I'll start recommending them again with caution.

What was your order number through the distributor? I haven't received any notice about my order but will be checking on Monday to see if it ships out as expected. My order is #1016.

hmm 1016

I am 1026

and not cancelled

paid with paypal

I'm guessing maybe a couple of the last orders to get through were overstock, a small but annoying hiccup for a new system.
4382  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 17, 2017, 04:19:36 PM
So theoretically, if bitmain and all their miners they run shut down, 1-2 days before difficulty change, would enough hashing power come off the network to actually drop difficulty, i would think if that was possible they would be doing that to lock in another two weeks of higher profitability.

and if they think their gov is shutting them down  they will mine and dump as much as they can until the shut down.

as for canaan.io

they mention the 20th

but if their gov forbid  btc to cash trading they may not sell from china  and ship to usa  which is why I ordered 1 from the usa distributor

It seems to me they made the only business decision that makes sense for a company of their size. They outsourced to a distributor; who is equipped, experienced, and ready to handle small order business.

This way they can still handle large orders from businesses capable of easily paying by Wire Transfer, and ship to their distributor without interruption.

Even just looking at how people and myself ordered. Canaan could ship 3 pallets to the distributor, that's 1 order that they can handle seemlessly.

The distributor now operating within a few hours of our time zones for most people I noticed having trouble ordered, have an online store and stock management system in place to  break those 180 units down into probably 100-130 orders. The new payment system also takes care of all the back and forth Canaan dealt with. Sounds like a good system, I hope the cancelled order was a one off that may have been an issue in stock management.

Time will tell.

4384  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Need info about Antminer S5 on: September 16, 2017, 05:19:52 AM
One thing you will want to check on as well is your power supply, the S7 requires 205V+ , where as the S5 runs off a regular 110V circuit. Which makes them a simpler setup.

What the hell are you talking about? Both miners run on 12v power. It is the POWER SUPPLY that you either need 110 or 220 power for, it has nothing at all to do with the miner.

Sorry, in my limited experience, I found that the power supplies required to run the s7 would require you to run off a 205+ volt circuit, to remain efficient and safe and reliable  for the load on the circuit. I have seen set ups running from 2 different outlets to supply power to run s7's off of 110v.
As you have more experience feel free to point him in the direction of efficient affordable reliable power supplies that will run off 110v supply for an s7.

For OP
Either way whichever of these you buy, you will probably find yourself upgrading to a more powerful miner sooner rather than later, or deciding that mining is not for you.
Good luck and happy hashing.
4385  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Official group buy thread for avalon741 is closed no more orders! now frozen on: September 15, 2017, 11:57:31 PM
I also placed an order with Miner Warez for two 741's. Let's see the ETA.

I checked in with their support and they said orders placed today will ship out on Monday. Can't wait. The nice thing  is they don't seem overwhelmed.
Glad I didn't wait u til the 18th lime the Canaan site said lol

yeah if they ship on monday the 18th  I will see it on thursday the 21st.

I contacted  their support and they said orders placed today will ship on Monday.
4386  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 15, 2017, 07:00:33 PM
I agree with all that. All I know is they let you pay as soon as you place the order and you immediately get email confirmation. As far as the shipping receiving process time will tell.

I still would like to know if the orders placed on Aug 31st are valid?
I would rather have the free shipping that was promised on the 31st... Tongue

Yeah the free shipping would have been nice, it's sort of a kick in the teeth, I didn't feel like waiting on the unknown timeline with Canaan.
4387  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Official group buy thread for avalon741 is closed no more orders! now frozen on: September 15, 2017, 06:30:07 PM
I still can't help but feel that we've been screwed over by Canaan. The only reason I bought bitcoins at around the $4700 mark was for this group buy, and by the time Canaan threw us under the bus, it was already too late to sell without making a significant loss. Cry

I thought Canaan were the good guys. Sad

So hold the coin for another week or 2. The exchange rate *will* recover and as long as you didn't buy when it was over around $4,300-4,500 you should be fine.

As for being 'good guys', don't think *any* miner maker ever fit that bill. More like they are the 'better guys'.

The distributor is live, they have sold out of controllers. If you want a unit I would check them out soon.
4388  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: September 15, 2017, 06:20:10 PM
Hi just aheads up that their distributor website went live.  It looks like they have some used units gor sale as well. You can also paypal for payment. There is a Btc option as well.
If you want to order you should probably check it out fast, looks like the controllers have sold out.

No major mark up, but you will pay shipping.
4389  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ebit e9 miner with 6.8Th/s from Ebang company a new rival for existing producers on: September 15, 2017, 12:03:25 PM
I bought 10 E9 + 10 Ebit PSU
2 already have a failed board and hash at 50%
1 PSU already failed

I have them 2 weeks

Please post and let us know what the after care support is like. Are they charging you to ship it back for repairs? Are they providing hashrate while you are down, as stated on their website?
Thanks for sharing your experience.

i had a teamviewer session when I had a hash issue with the first one. They told me to ship it back, I have to pay for shipping.

Okay that's unfortunate, is it both units? Did they mention if they are going to compensate with equal hashrate during your downtime?

No they did not mention. First arrived like that from China, second one was ok until yesterday, then it hash rate dropped, after reboot it stays around 3TH. So basically I have one that came half broken, other one broke down after one week, one PSU was DOA. It does not give me a lot of confidence in the company and their products to be honest. Shipping it back means extra loss of hash rate for weeks + shipping costs

Yeah that definitely does not inspire confidence hopefully they take care of you. If you check their webpage it does mention covering hashrate during repair times so it may be worth a follow up. Those were the statements that had me leaning towards giving them a try.
4390  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: PSU recommended for Bitmain's S9 on: September 15, 2017, 12:00:01 PM
Hi experts, I wonder if you could recommend me the best PSU you would install for a Bitmain's S9.
Of course my installation is a 220v one

I have seen some Asian proposals in EBay, some unbranded "platinum" 1600W PSU.

I think 1600W is enough for the S9 but what about brands?

I'm all eyes to your comments and thanks in advance

I highly recommend looking into amitylabs through ebay, they make a great product. There is also Sidehack here within the community I don't know exactly what he produces but have heard good things.

Official Canaan Distributor Opens Sept 18th For Pre Orders

I suppose we'll have to reorder?

Shipping backlog orders starts Sept 20-30

I would assume that only helps people who paid for the order, I haven't heard of anyone on here who got an address. It's tough waiting with such small amounts of information being released.

In the end they are just a company, with limited transparency; no good guys or bad guys. They want to make a dollar and one of the best ways to do that is to oversell your products. Airlines do it all the time, every new iphone is pre-ordered and even then you may get it a month or 2 late. It's the way of business. Hopefully this new distribution system gives canaan the option to breakdown pallets to fill smaller orders as well as provide bulk buys. Time will tell. A lot of us lost money on the price dive, some more than others.
4395  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: My failure experience with bitcoin on: September 15, 2017, 07:09:11 AM
Hi bitcointalkers .
I made this poste to show the dark side within bitcoin .
Well, I saw many posts talking about success stories with this cryptocurrency , but no one talks about FAILURE in BTC .
For example : I knew bitcoin since it was 500 usd , I used to use faucets and collected some 0.01 BTC ( that time was worthless) I sold some If the amount to a SCMER on localbitcoin , I lost the big part on yobit , and the rest is still blocked on virwox .
This was my story with bitcoin , it's true that I did not pay attention , but failure can be reality with bitcoin.
Can you pls tell more details about localbitcoins scam? I've been curious about  any possible problems with those escrow systems but haven't seen anything usefull on the forum. Thought whe worse thing is that your funds can freeze for a long time on escrow acc.
Months ago , I saw a person on localbitcoin buying bitcoin ( higher than the price average) , I sold some coins to this person , but he didn't send me anythingto my PayPal account...he was simply SCAMER .

Did you sent your bitcoin straight to his adress avoiding the escrow system? I thought  it is nessecary for all localbitcoins transactions.
Also remember that PayPal is reversable and such offers might be a scam even if you get your funds after the deal.

A side note to Paypal, They do not offer Buyer protection for purchasing Bitcoins. That was my failure upon entering the bitcoin world, despite confirming with one of their agents ahead of time that I was covered. I did use my credit card through paypal, and as of right now they are offering Fraud protection, and I hope they don't come back and reverse that decision. They still have 2 months to decide, but as many have said I chocked it up to a lesson learned and realized that the fees through exchanges aren't so bad especially when compared to getting ripped off.
4396  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: Official group buy thread for avalon741 is closed no more orders! now frozen on: September 15, 2017, 04:39:36 AM
I am in for 2 units with raspberry pi. Live in PA - USA.

Hope I can join this group buy.

This group buy is as dead as a door nail.

No response from Steve of Canaan.io in more then a week.

Yeah it would have been nice if anything had worked out this month. I did see they put out some vague info about a Distributor. Hopefully located in North America, and not charging an arm and a leg for Hardware.
4397  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Anyone interested in making bulk purchase of Avalon 741 canada? on: September 15, 2017, 03:20:03 AM
You could probably delete this thread, as the group buy previously mentioned fell flat at the last minute. Canaan had some internal issues with taking BTC for the order which tanked the deal.  The things you would need to make the deal happen are:

A reputable member to set up and manage the group buy

Likely a business that is established with importing to handle sending a Bank wire Transfer for that amount/ and receive the pallet of product without raising eyebrows throughout the customs process.

If you can meet criteria 2 but not criteria 1 you may want to try your local market as the GTA isn't to far away and there are many miners there. Best of luck from MB
