4681  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any point in reporting spam megathreads? on: September 29, 2018, 10:33:10 AM
Definitely worth it. It pushes actual worthy discussion down the page, and it will then be forgotten in an hour, and never return. You see this all the time. I appreciate it from the standpoint of a user of the forum, and I'm sure a lot of other moderators do too. Unfortunately, I only remove topics when there's not many replies, and they are pointless. Otherwise, I'll lock them, but if they are out of my jurisdiction I'll ignore the report, and allow another moderator with permission to lock it to deal with it.

I'd rather get to the point where we are removing these trash threads than simply just locking them. It's better to do that when they don't have any replies, and before they become a problem. There's several threads asking the exact same question or generic statement. I'm pretty sure they look down the page, and take inspiration from previous threads, and can't think of their own content so just use already existing content.

I'm going to miss the Liverpool game today as I'm out on a stag due. Shame. I thought it was Sunday they were playing. Anyway, regardless of the result mid week I think Liverpool will win comfortably as long as Van djik is fit and ready to play. Something about bruised ribs or something. Mind games or genuine?
4683  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: September 29, 2018, 07:40:51 AM
Yeah, especially when those questions are easily found elsewhere as they have been asked a hundred times before. I'm going to be looking at editing the thread soon, and working on the formatting. I've just been a little busy with moderation, and the fact that I've got an expedition coming up, and have been training for that Tongue

I'll get around to it eventually. Cheesy
4684  Other / Meta / Re: Ranked member's involved with ANN bumping. on: September 27, 2018, 09:55:42 PM
To my knowledge there isn't a "3 strikes" and you're out system. I guess it depends on the individual case. If the user continues to do it after having replies deleted then obviously that should be taken into account. I tend to note down usernames in a text document of higher ranked members doing things like this. However, you can also mention this in your report if you would like, and whoever is dealing with it can note it down themselves, and decide whether more action is needed. It just depends on the case I would say. It's too hard to be generalized.
4685  Other / Meta / Re: Reasons and warnings on: September 27, 2018, 12:01:20 PM
Plagiarism is usually dealt with harshly, and results in a permanent ban with ban appeals being rejected. You can send a ban appeal to theymos if you would like, but its unlikely to do anything. Plagiarism is one of the rules which is enforced heavily. Just like in universities when caught plagiarizing.

Otherwise, you'll just have to read the forum, and not participate with an account.
4686  Other / Meta / Re: Merit of the Hero Member on: September 27, 2018, 11:53:31 AM
I'm not sure that it was unlucky. Those of us who managed to get the merits to become legendaries have a sense of achievement. Maybe we should call them super-heroes. Smiley Now that the new merits system has become the old merit system as a result of the improvements. It is difficult to differentiate between "merited" legendaries and "senior" legendaries.

Probably time for a new rank to separate the "kids" from the actual "legends" of the forum. I think I remember someone suggesting a rank called Mythical or something along those lines I quite liked. I would say the first 10 people to reach it or have the requirement so high only a few will ever reach it.
4687  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: September 27, 2018, 05:56:39 AM
From my understanding that is likely the case. However, local board moderators may well have specific privileges to ban. I do doubt this though, and would say that they would need to contact a Global Moderator if a particular user is a problem. How they go about that, and prove it if the Global mod doesn't know how to speak that language I don't know honestly.
4688  Other / Meta / Re: Why would a moderator delete these old posts? on: September 26, 2018, 10:23:49 PM
Ok i get it, even if that wasn't my case since it was in the first page of the thread. Thanks i'll be more careful when posting!
Yeah, that's just an example. I have no idea when it was posted. However, as long as you are posting with a purpose, and providing decent content there shouldn't be any future problems! Smiley
4689  Other / Meta / Re: Why would a moderator delete these old posts? on: September 26, 2018, 09:59:28 PM
If all "my opinion" posts deserve to be deleted then 50% of the forum would get wiped out.
You're missing the point. Its not the fact that you gave an opinion; Its the lack of substance behind it. Sure, if you actually gave a unique reason which hasn't been repeated half a million times already it would be likely fine. The fact that you made a generic response like all the other spam comments is why it got deleted.
4690  Economy / Digital goods / Re: [WTS] Domain & Site (If requested) - AltcoinForum.net on: September 26, 2018, 05:06:28 PM
2 btc mean $13,000. what is so special in this website that you are asking that high price for it? I checked the website. it's a simple machine forum with very few members. most of the sections are empty with zero posts.

i don't think this price is reasonable.

The domain probably has a value to people within the market of altcoins. Especially, if they want to create something Bitcointalk-esque. I doubt they will as it takes some real dedication, and organization to pull it off, but that doesn't stop them trying, and valuing a domain like this.

It might not be worth anything to you or me, but the price is probably justified for those looking to operate a altcoin forum. There's definitely a gap in the market.
4691  Other / Meta / Re: banned account, please give second chance on: September 26, 2018, 05:02:43 PM
Depending on why you were banned for will depend on whether they will be willing to lift the ban. If its for plagiarism or anything like that its likely permanent. Also, I'm guessing this ban is permanent, and you know that. Were you banned before this permanent ban?
4692  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 26, 2018, 04:14:43 PM
The thing is both teams will field weaker sides especially because they are playing each other again on the weekend. But, I feel that Liverpool has the squad depth to field a very capable team. Everyone bangs on about Mignolet, and how awful he is. However, he's gone far with them in cups before, and is a excellent penalty saver if it comes to that. He's not a terrible choice like the fans are kicking up. I think we'll see Sturridge, and Shaqiri get some game time too. I'll be watching this game in the background to get a decent feel of the fans reception of both teams.
4693  Other / Meta / Re: Why would a moderator delete these old posts? on: September 26, 2018, 02:28:22 PM
What are you guys saying??
I can't start a message with "Great project" only because tons of bots spam posts with ONLY those 2 words?  Grin

How can a legit post that goes on talking about specific tech details can be compared to useless bots spams for bounties?

Quote
Great project with strong team and clever idea.
The decision to build the platform on the Stellar blockchain will be very important in my opinion.
Ethereum is just way to expensive and slow.

You could if the rest of your post actually provided something new. You didn't even elaborate why you think its going to be good. Just "my opinion". That's contentless, and just spam, and will continue to be removed.

There's nothing technical about that post. You mention that its built on the Stellar Blockchain? Yeah, but that's public information, and isn't really pointing out something technical. Just something that its built on, and everyone that invests in it knows.
4694  Other / Meta / Re: [Guide] Reporting effectively on: September 26, 2018, 02:26:43 PM
Does anybody know the behind the scene on how reporting is managed on a Local board?

Specifically:
a) Can local Mods Ban or Nuke users themselves? (or do they pass the cases along to Admins/Global Mods).

b) Are reports made on a local board read/managed only by local moderators? (I guess global/admin may have visibility, but the operational part is down to the local mod).

c) Do Local mods upscale local only issues?

d) Do Local mods upscale issues that, being reported at a local level, have implication at a global level (i.e. user spams on local and on bitcoin board)?

I gave my best shot at answering these questions on my local board, but wanted to make sure I got them right in order to amend if necessary.

Okay, I'm going to try my best to be accurate as possible. But, don't anything I say for fact as I'm only certain on a few things.

A) AFAIK they'll only be able to nuke if they are a patroller, and the reported user is a Newbie or below 28 activity. If not, then they'll likely have to contact a Global Moderator with information on why the user should be banned. Again, I'm not too familiar with how this works.

B) No. Global moderators will see the reports, and any reported newbies will also be able to be seen by patrollers. I have several local board reports each day. If they are obvious like ref spam etc I'll remove them. If not, I'll just ignore it until someone who has knowledge of that language deals with it.

C) I'm not entirely sure what you mean. But, if a local moderator is only assigned to its local board thats the sections which they can take action in. They may well be made a patroller on top of that, and can deal with Newbie reports site wide.

D) Again, I'm not sure what you mean. However, if they are a patroller they'll see Newbie reports site wide, and can act on them. Nuke etc. If not, and they are only a moderator in their local board, they can only take action in their local board.
4695  Other / Meta / Re: Paying once to bypass captchas on: September 25, 2018, 08:37:13 PM
Could be an idea. I know how difficult it is to use Tor on other sites. The captcha takes a good 10+ times to complete most of the time. Can be absolutely infuriating when your only logging in to check messages or something. I'm not sure how much the fee would need to be, and whether it was rank restricted to prevent newbies shelling out a lot of money for it.
4696  Other / Meta / Re: It make sense that why theymos was talking about the YouTube channel on: September 25, 2018, 06:56:44 PM
It kind of makes sense. I'm just concerned about the content that gets published there, and whether it would be considered boring, and then the project is just abandoned because it didn't work out. The thing is I've seen some useful content get suggested, but honestly we need exciting content which is going to draw new users in, and not necessarily help those that are part of the community at the moment. It's definitely something that we can do, but it just depends on the angle theymos is taking, and what his motives are. If its to drive more traffic then the content needs to be exciting, and I think a news outlet would be the better option, and then showing unique discussion of this news on the forum.

Probably just need a public thread for posting quality content to showcase. You wouldn't need to hire people to research for you as I'm sure the community as a whole will be more than willing to help.
4697  Other / Meta / Re: One merit for newbie ! on: September 25, 2018, 06:52:14 PM
The decision taken by the bitcoin forum in favor to remove the people who have multiple accounts in the bitcoin forum is good and people who are posting post on this wall for merit they will definitely get that one merit if their post is good.

Hmm. Probably not the case at the moment. A lot of people are looking more in depth in users that recently got demoted as a lot of them are now trying to post good quality content in order to rank up. I've got my own sort of "guidelines" when I'm looking for a newbie to reward, and to be honest I normally find that they break these sort of guidelines, and their intentions are clear why they are making good posts all of a sudden.
4698  Other / Meta / Re: Extra section for newbies? on: September 25, 2018, 06:43:32 PM
Beginners, and help does need cleaning up a little. But, I think adding a beginners and help section to the altcoin section would probably have a positive effect on that section. Its not clear where everything goes to newbies, and so it just gets clogged up with anything and  everything.

I don't think there needs to be a section where only staff members reply. You can contact a staff member if you want to ask a question. But, please try, and search it up because I know I receive tonnes of messages that are easily found with a quick search.
4699  Other / Meta / Re: List of demoted Jr. Members who were ranked up again on: September 25, 2018, 06:40:45 PM

Yeah, I am also one of them. Normally I didn't post long posts before due to 5 reasons

1 It takes time to prepare good posts
2 I am not very good at English writing
3 I didn't care about my rank it was Jr. member and It was enough for me.
4 I believed senior users only exchange merits among them (I know that is wrong now)
5 I could still get knowledge from the forum without posting

So I didn't post much

But suddenly I was demoted to a newbie. It is really a shame. demoting from something, not only for this forum, It is for whole life. I don't like it. (I think everyone in the world ) So I just Started to create some post with my knowledge. It is pleasure to state here Now I have 4 earned Merits and I am back to jr.member. And I feel more confident with merit system and Now I know If someone really want to rank up it is not a big deal here.

You've brought up a good point. Not sure if its what you intended to do, but just because a newbie suddenly starts posting meaningful content doesn't mean they are going to continue to do so once they have received their targeted merit. Of course, a lot of newbies right now are creating threads in an attempt to get their merit to join bounties again, but not all newbies will have these motives, and it might just be the case that they don't want to be known as a newbie, and decided to ramp up their content creation.
4700  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cloudbet's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 25, 2018, 06:37:09 PM
Its exactly why so many people are predicting them to win it. They haven't even clicked, and are still turning mediocre performances into wins. That's the winning mentality they have, and as soon as they click I would be worried about facing them. You only have to look at the Reddit of their opponents, and its literal fear of getting smashed, and losing goal difference. A lot of saints fans thought it would be a lot worse. Seemed like Liverpool took their foot off the pedal in the 2nd half to account for their up and coming fixtures which at first looked a little daunting.
